Oracle 9i to 10g Export/Backup

I have an Oracle 9i database which I need to either export or backup and then import or
restore into my 10g database server. What is the best way to do this?
The 9i database has about 20GB worth of data and we would like to keep it. The 10g
database server has plenty of storage but the 9i is running scarcely low.
any help would be greatly appreciated

Firstly, have you decided to keep the 9i or get rid of the 9i?
If you want to keep 9i as it is, then you can install 9i on the new server in a seperate oracle_home and run it there.
Shutdown the 9i database, copy all the datafiles, control files, redologs, password file, init.ora file/spfile to the same location here on the new server and bring it up!
If not, use one of the standard upgrade options like using a DBUA etc.
You can also use the export / import utilities to achieve the expected results. Export from 9i and import in to 10g. But then you need to have created a database already with all the necessary storage before you import it in 10g.
Remember that in 10g, you will need to use the DataPump import. Fairly simple to perform.
Hope this helps!

  • Schedule Backup on Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g

    Hello All,
    I am using Oracle enterprise manager 10g for schedule backup, i enter the user and password of operating system (windows XP) in Host Credentials part, but it return this error:
    Connection to host as user khazaei failed: IOException in sending Request :: Connection refused: connect
    khazaei is my windows username ,
    any one can help me?
    thanks in advance,
    Hamzeh Khazaei

    You need to add khazaei to the Local Security Policy "Logon as Batch Job". if you have already done so and you have logged on to a Domain, then add the domain to the username. e.g domain_name\khazaei.
    BTW - you can get faster response to this issue in the EM forum

  • How to ZIP Oracle Datapump export backup file

    Well Thanks for your reply.....my oracle version is 11.2.0.3.b and if we have the compression option can you please elaborate how to do that......
    It's in the documentation.  See Data Pump Export
    let us say my expdp file is abc.dmp...should I give the command gzip abc.dmp or any different.
    Let me google that for you
    One more question what does teh customer mean by production data dump to the following path \\138.90.17.56\OMNISAFE. please explain
    How do we know what the customer means?  Why don't you ask him?
    That said, it looks like a url to an ip address and a defined folder at that ip address.  Again, if the customer wants you to send them a file, you need to be working with said customer on the mechanics of accessing their system.
    All that said ....
    Learning how to look things up in the documentation is time well spent investing in your career.  To that end, you should drop everything else you are doing and do the following:
    Go to tahiti.oracle.com.
    Locate the link for your Oracle product and version, and click on it.
    You are now at the entire documentation set for your selected Oracle product and version.
    BOOKMARK THAT LOCATION
    Spend a few minutes just getting familiar with what is available here. Take special note of the "books" and "search" tabs. Under the "books" tab (for 10.x) or the "Master Book List" link (for 11.x) you will find the complete documentation library.
    Spend a few minutes just getting familiar with what kind  of documentation is available there by simply browsing the titles under the "Books" tab.
    Open the Reference Manual and spend a few minutes looking through the table of contents to get familiar with what kind of information is available there.
    Do the same with the SQL Reference Manual.
    Do the same with the Utilities manual.
    You don't have to read the above in depth.  They are reference manuals.  Just get familiar with what is there to be referenced. Ninety percent of the questions asked on this forum can be answered in less than 5 minutes by simply searching one of the above manuals.
    Then set yourself a plan to dig deeper.
    - *Read a chapter a day from the Concepts Manual*.
    - Take a look in your alert log.  One of the first things listed at startup is the initialization parms with non-default values. Read up on each one of them (listed in your alert log) in the Reference Manual.
    - Take a look at your listener.ora, tnsnames.ora, and sqlnet.ora files. Go to the Network Administrators manual and read up on everything you see in those files.
    - *When you have finished reading the Concepts Manual, do it again*.

  • Export Backup Size is different

    Hi Gurus,
    We are using Oracle 10G (10.2.0.1.0) on Solaris 10 and we used to take export backup daily basis. While taking export backup using 'exp' then .dmp file size is becoming 30.3 GB where as when we use 'expdp' .dmp file size is 26.1 GB. I've checked both the log files and found no. of tables along with their records are same. so I'm confused why this size difference? and as a result we are not in a position to implement 'expdp'. Can anybody tell me why this size difference and whether can we rely on expdp or not?

    Oracle recommends that you use the new Data Pump Export and Import utilities because they support all Oracle Database 10g features
    Look at the following documentation:

  • Oracle Application Server 10g Cloning - Urgent

    Hello All,
    I have been given a new assignment which involves Oracle Applications server 10g, i am new to oracle application server and hoping that some one will please clarify my doubts.
    i have to clone a production machine (Solaris 10) which has oracle AS 10g, this machine had oracle database 10g before and just the application server was installed on it, i have to clone a test environment for this machine, i have the following two doubts
    1) Is it possible to just install Oracle Application server 10g on a machine which already contains oracle 10g database, if so then what about the database that gets installed when installing Oracle application server 10g.
    2) How to clone the above production machine, should the oracle 10g database be cloned first and then oracle application server 10g cloned on the new machine?
    Eagerly waiting for a reply

    2) How to clone the above production machine, should the oracle 10g database be cloned first and then oracle application server 10g cloned on the new machine?1) Yes, it is possible. The DB that comes with OAS as the infrastructure DB for it (I presume you are installing a full OAS with infrastructure and midtier both) does not affect the DB you already have on your system ... obviously ... as long as you install them in their separate homes.
    2) I always say, this term cloning is somewhat loosely used in general communication meaning making copies. In OAS context, Cloning works for middletiers only. You cannot clone an infrastructure.
    To make a redundant/alternate environment for OAS, you can do the following:
    - a) either use the same infra on machine 1, and install another midtier and register with the same infra.
    - b) or install a separate infra on machine 2, and also a midtier registered with it.
    Here for the first option a), Cloning can be used because you can (*only*) clone a middle-tier. There are pros and cons for this setup, including that you share the SSO, and OID, and hence users and groups bases, etc on those two environments - something that you may or may not want. But then there are also some way-outs to avoid them or minimize their effects too. Please see the following reference for cloning and search on Metalink for how to minimize effects, once you get better familiar with the processes.

    For b), you will need to Stage a server as defined in this reference.
    [11 Staging a Test Environment from a Production Environment|http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B14099_19/core.1012/b13995/prodtest.htm]
    There are some notes on Metalink which address issues about benefits or procedures of Cloning and Staging an environment too.
    There are some other ways to export/transport your applications to another instance across DB. Please also read about them.
    hope that helps!

  • Oracle Management Console 10g - Job Status - Suspended on Agent Unreachable

    Recently we updated our RDMS from 10.2.0.1 to 10.2.0.4.0 PATCH 25.
    Ever since we upgraded, we have had trouble with our RMAN backups. Now when a scheduled backup begins it never ends. Now whenever we schedule a job, from a backup to any simple system command, the status immediately returns "Suspended on Agent Unreachable".
    We can start and stop the dbconsole successfully, and I can use the OEM to monitor the database, and make changes to that. However, I cannot run any scheduled database jobs through the OEM. However, I can run the rman jobs via the command line.
    The database server, and the OEM console is on the save server. I am not running RAC. Everything database related is on this one server.

    Rondeyli,
    Thanks, that was it. I followed your instructions, and was able to get the system to work. I had to alter the commands a bit to get them to work on my system, so here is what I did.
    I performed the following steps:
    1. Ran the following command:
            emctl stop dbconsole
    2. deleted all files in $AGENT_HOME/sysman/emd/upload and $AGENT_HOME/sysman/emd/state
    3. Ran the following command:
           emctl clearstate dbconsole
    4. Ran the following command:
           emctl secure dbconsole
    5. Ran the following command:
           emctl start dbconsoleThis got everything running for me.
    thanks.

    So, when I do upgrade I have to setup oracle home for 10g and also profile for oracle user for 10g (correct me if I m wrong). But now I want one database RCAT on oracle 9i. How can I take care of this.
    I mean how I will handle profile and all other thing for oracle 9i and 10g at the same time.
    Thanks,
    Vishal

    Install 10g under the same OS user as 9i, of course on a different Oracle Home. Then you configure your .profile consequently. Just as an example, this is my .bash_profile with 10g and 11g with the same oracle OS user :
    [oracle@linux5 ~]$ cat .bash_profile
    # .bash_profile
    # Get the aliases and functions
    if [ -f ~/.bashrc ]; then
            . ~/.bashrc
    fi
    export EDITOR=vi
    export ORACLE_BASE=/home/oracle/base
    umask 022
    o10()
    {       export ORACLE_SID=db102
            export ORACLE_HOME=$ORACLE_BASE/OraHome10
            export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/lib
            export PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/bin:/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin
            export TNS_ADMIN=$ORACLE_BASE/OraHome11/network/admin
            export PS1='[\u@\h_10 \W]\$ '
    o11()
    {       export ORACLE_SID=db11
            export ORACLE_HOME=$ORACLE_BASE/OraHome11
            export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/lib
            export PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/bin:/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin
            export PS1='[\u@\h_11 \W]\$ '
    s()
    {       sqlplus / as sysdba
    asm()
    {       export ORACLE_SID=+ASM
    db10()
    {       export ORACLE_SID=db102
    db11()
    {       export ORACLE_SID=db11
    asm10()
    {       export ORACLE_SID=asm10
    [oracle@linux5 ~]$

  • 10g export to 9i database

    Hi all
    Can i import 10g (10.2.0.3) export to 9i database.
    i execute import command in 9i database.
    Please help as soon as posible.

    There are compatibility issues you should consider prior to attempt this export/import operation. If you took the export with the 10g export tool it won't be possible to be imported to any database prior to 10gR2, you are required to export from the 10gR2 DB with 9i export and import this data to the 9i Database with the 9i import tool.
    For further references I suggest you to take a look at the Metalink Note:

  • Is OWB 10g exported(EEX) and imported in Dis.Admin (10.1.2) ?

    Hi ,
    I have a problem related to OWB and Discoverer Administrator, both 10G(10.1.2). When I export the output as an .eex file, it says the output is for Oracle 9i Discoverer and does not say 10G. If I still try to import it into Oracle Discoverer Administrator, it gets imported but I am unable to see anything there.
    Is there any other way to transfer the output of Oracle Warehouse Builder 10G onto Discoverer 10G considering both as (10.1.2)? Please Help.
    Thank You,
    Mani

    We have an SR raised which is now with development, but so far we have not been able to pin down what is causing this.
    Basically we see entries end up on the recovery queue with nothing written in any logs, even if we increase the level of logging to debug.
    This does not happen under load, the exact opposite. If nothing is going on and then we get 5-10 processes start, we see about 1% end on the queue. I pushed 500,000 messages through it last weekend and nothing ended up on the queue, yet a run on Monday of just 100 caused 2 entries on the queue with no explaination.
    I have tried everything I can think of, but so far have not been able to re-create the condition at will, it is completely non-deterministic. It also happens on all 5 of our rigs, so it is not machine specific.
    I have tuned the BPEL engine and it easily copes with our throughput. We are running with a 10g dehydration store, either single instance or active-passive depending on environment, but I do not think this is going to be causing an issue.
    We have about 20 async processes and sub-processes and the problem can occur at any point, although mostly on Invoke and Callback. Each process contains a mixture of async (to BPEL), sync (to External) and a reasonably number of database adapters in each process.
    It is not the fact it is placing the entry on the queue that is my issue, it is the fact we have no idea WHY it has ended there as there are no log entries.
    Any ideas what else I can try?
    Pete

  • Export backup failing with ORA-1555snapshot too old: rollback segment ERROR

    DB version =8.1.7.4
    OS=Solaris =5.10.
    I know this is outdated. But still we are supporting this version of database.
    We are facing ORA-1555 error daily when we are running the export backup of database. Consistent parameter is set to N .
    I needed to know why export uses rollback segments during export operation. even though CONSISTENT parameter is N.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
    Consistent=y just mean the tables are consistent with each other. Oracle still has to guarantee that each individual table is at least consistent with itself. That's your issue.
