Oracle Apex 4.0 & Div Based Themes

I am using Oracle Apex 4.0. I know there are some div based themes associated with this release.
Is what is generated in the substitution string #BODY# still table based? And if it is by default, how do I control what is generated for #BODY#?

I understand what you are saying. And have done some heavy modifications on templates. I would just word "You control what's int he #BODY# by controlling the templates" differently. I would say "You control what is around the #BODY#" by controlling the templates".
For example, I can control the format within the #BODY# by adding DIV's and CLASS's around the body in the template. But I see no way that I can convert the internal formatting of the #BODY# and use DIV's instead of TABLE's.
At least I believe this is true. I have not seen a "Template" for the #BODY# itself. If I have an HTML region where I am placing some items I can control the format of the region. But not the format of the ITEM's I place in the region. They will be table based. They will never be truely DIV based. At least not in 4.0.

Oracle Apex Multilpe Theme for a single application

Hi All,
I have a query regarding display multiple theme for a single apex application. My object is to change the color scheme for an existing apex application and use both old and new color scheme in a single application. For example I'm planning to modify apex 3.1 theme 9 (Red theme) to green and wants to use red theme for some pages and green theme for some other pages in same application.
The following steps I have tried.
1. Copied /theme/theme_9 to my local
2. Changed color scheme of all the images.
3. Renamed my local folder name from theme_9 to theme_9_1
4. Moved my new folder to server path /theme/theme_9_1
Now I went to my application which have theme 9 and copied One Tab page template as One Tab Template 9.1. In my new page template I changed all the the /theme_9/ reference to /theme_9_1. In my application I applied this new page template to get green color scheme. But its appearing without any css scheme (even default style is not there).
So Please help me out to resolve my issue. and also suggest me if you have any other easy way to achieve my objective.

You steps look okay to me, so not sure why you're CSS isn't working, I would need to see your actual templates to find out (perhaps you could put this up on apex.oracle.com). Just a few general pointers though, I would suggest using one of the newer themes, introduced in APEX 4.0 and APEX 4.1. Those themes are mostly DIV based, i.e. fewer HTML tables for formatting, and as a result, they are much smaller. They also use a DOCTYPE, prompting all modern browser to render your pages in standards more, ensuring better cross-browser compatibility. And most relevant for your task, they no longer use theme-specific class names, i.e. a class called "t9header", would now simply be "header". They also generally reference images directly from the CSS stylesheet, rather than inside your templates, making it much easier to modify your UI. So in essence, assuming you'd be using theme 21, all you'd have to do to switch from a red-look to (in this case) a blue-look, would be to reference the theme CSS file in /themes/theme_22, instead of /themes/theme_21, so in your templates, you would only need to change one path in your page templates.

I have a set of text Field items in oracle apex:
Order Number
Revision Number
When we open the report, revision should be hidden.
Only when the user enters unique order number (non-duplicate order numbers), revision number should be visible.
If he enters duplicate order number, revision number should be hidden.

With all due respect, reading FAQs is not very helpful without putting them in the context of actually using the tools and finding your way through questions and problems as they actually occur.
I would suggest walking through every tutorial you can get your hands on and make sure you thoroughly understand why everything was done and what it does (especially in the case of code samples). That's where real learning is going to take place.
Install your own database, your own apex installation configure it, tweak it, install sample apps, take 'em apart, break 'em, fix 'em, etc... By the time you're done you should know every sample app and tutorial on the Apex home page inside and out.
Best of all would be to develop your own application based on some ideas you have for a piece of software. Build the database objects, build the pages, forms, reports, etc. When you have a set of requirements that you need to satisfy it's far more challenging (and rewarding) than just walking through the steps of a tutorial.

Page Sentry Setup - Oracle ApEx 4.1.1

Hoping someone can please assist or point me in the right direction but I am creating a new Page Sentry setup in Oracle ApEx 4 based on the following link:

I have pretty much just used what has been provided from this link with a few minor changes but my question that I cannot figure out why it is happening is that in MS IE8, when I fire up my app, it all starts up fine and and sets up my APP_USER and APP_SESSION fine but what I have found that, when I go to a new tab in IE8 and start up another session for this very same APP_ID, it is assigning the same APP_SESSION as the previous session, which is not what I am after from the Page Sentry.
Could someone please assist with what I need to change this pl/sql code, so that a new session id is always generated when starting up a new IE8 tab in the same browser window.

If you are using OAM, why would you want each tab to have a different session?

If I'm not mistaken . . . your problem with Apex 3 is now solved in Apex 4 (unless you implemented a broken page sentry function), because the session id in the url is backed by a cookie. If the session id in the url doesn't match the credentials in the cookie, it cancels the session.
At the same time, since browsers share cookies between different tabs, the database can't distinguish between page calls from one tab from page calls from another tab - because they pass the same cookie. This is a browser issue, not an apex limitation. I don't think its possible to have each tab be treated as a separate session, unless you disable the cookie, and that leaves you open to the problems you had with Apex 3.
I keep saying "if I'm not mistaken", and that's because I've got 0 applications under my belt (well, I have a websheet, but that doesn't count). I've been studying page sentry functions on-and-off since November 2011, and got nowhere. Fortunately, I discovered how to do what I wanted to do without using a page sentry function.

Integrating Google Maps in Oracle Apex and 404 Not found error page

Currently using APEX version 3.2.0.00.27 installed in OracleXE version 10.2.0.1.0. Have been attempting to recreate some examples of Google Maps within APEX. Found a nice set of examples here that build up to what I'm looking to ultimately do by incorporating google maps into APEX:

Unfortunatly, I'm getting the "404 Not Found, Not found, The requested URL /apex/wwv_flow.accept was not found on this server" page when I try to recreate the "Map with Search" example. I'd like to see if this really works using the html input and button tags in the body/region source versus creating APEX items to pass the address values to the javascript in the html header of the apex page. I'm thinking it's just an html thing within APEX that you have to do it a certain way, but I haven't managed to hit that magic combination. have gone to the google maps api v2 and looked at the html they use (it's what these examples with apex are based on) and tried that just to see. Same 404 result.
I've seen suggestions at this forum and elsewhere that the 404 error is due to a bug. have been to metalink, and really haven't seen anything that spells out what the bug is and how to patch it or work around it. May be I just haven't found the right note/doc yet. have seen suggestions to change something associated with the Anonymous account that APEX uses. Have turned on authentication in the application to use an APEX user account with a logon page to the application. Still get the 404. Although, I have not adjusted anything elsewhere, like a DADS config file, because the apex/xe configuration is using the plsql gateway. Not sure of any procedure for changing settings on anonymous account when using plsql gateway.
Open to suggestions. APEX 3.2 is customer version, so going to 4 may not be an option yet. XE, on the other hand, can certainly be swapped for an 11g version standard or enterprise edition if need be. I don't think this is a db version problem though. I think it's more on the APEX side of things.
Anyway, any help or suggestions are appreciated.

Digital Certificates and Web Services with Oracle APEX

Hi people,
I am working to implement Web Service communication using Oracle Apex. I need to create an application that calls an external public Web Service in Apex. So far, so good, and i am able to work with a public WS without any problems.
However, this particular WS I'm calling has two peculiarities:
1) It is SSL-Secured (HTTPS). This means i have to communicate using SSL and Public/Private Certificates.
2) The message i pass (payload) must be digitally signed using XMLDsig Standard (www.w3.org/TR/xmldsig-core/)
The first requirement i am still testing, but it will probably work if i import the public and private keys using Oracle Wallet and point to this Wallet, just as PayPal sample in OTN samples does, don't you think? Should i have any problems with this?
The second one is more complicated, all APIs i have seen for XML Digital Signing are Java-based or .NET-based, i have found nothing based in PL/SQL packages or such. Can you point me some other options to sign this XML?
Please bear in mind that, since the WS has more than one method, i am using plain old UTL_HTTP to call it (just like the PayPal sample in OTN). PayPal requests that all communication be SSL-enabled, but has no mention whatsoever for Digital Signatures.
Can anybody help me out with this? any help is highly appreciated.

You are correct in that there should be no problem interacting with a Web service that has an HTTPS endpoint as long as you create a wallet and specify it when you make your UTL_HTTP calls, like the PayPal example.
I am not aware of a PL/SQL utility to create a XMLDsig Standard message, but if you find some Java source out there that does it, you may be able to follow a technique I used for a similar use case:

Apex 4.2.1 - mobile theme display bugs and Cascading LOV bug

I've setup a test at http://apex.oracle.com/pls/apex/f?p=35331 - username/password is test/test
Simple page to show some issues I'm running into. Wondering if work-arounds exist or if a patch would be available before we'd go live.
First and second issue are the same I believe. So - a normal text box (label1) looks fine. But, Label2 is a Display only item and Label3 is a read-only select list item. As you can see - both of the values appear smack dab right beside the label and not in line with the other fields. It's totally ugly and not usable as is. I've tried to move this over, but the label goes with it. I can see no way of doing it, but wondering if there's some hack I can put in to solve it...
The last issues is with a cascading LOV. Simple table setup. Static on the first, the second a simple query that filters on the first. If you set the select list to Value Required and not to display null values - then when you click on the Second List button - it just hangs. The page is unusable. I suspect this has to do with the null or something. But - doesn't appear to matter if anything is chosen. Note - if the list is large - which I think then uses a different UI control, this is fine. Only when one of the lists is small does the issue reproduce.
Any workarounds or fixes? Any ideas?

I would suggest to not mix different questions and a thread for each of them. Makes it easier for others to follow.
About your problem with the cascading LOVs, it appears that this is/was a bug in jQuery Mobile which we use under the hood. I was able to reproduce the problem with APEX 4.2.1 using jQM 1.2.0, but was not able to reproduce it with APEX 5.0 which will use jQM 1.3.0RC1 or higher. The problem occurs if a select list is empty.
There are different workarounds available:
1) set the attribute "HTML Form Element Attributes" of P1_CLOV_2 to data-native-menu="false"or
2) set the attribute "Display Null Value" of P1_CLOV_2 to Yes and "Null Display Value" to - select - (or something similar). The "Value Required" = Yes will still guarantee that a value has to be picked. Having the extra null entry will guarantee that the select list always contains an entry, that seems to workaround the bug in jQuery Mobile.
I have filed bug 16355963 - jquery mobile: empty select list causes javascript error
to track that this is definitely fixed in APEX 5.0.

Insert a record into a table through email in an Oracle APEX application

I developed an Oracle APEX application, there is a table called events. I can insert/update/delete a record in the table through browser. I am thinking in order to quickly do the data entry, user should be able to send an email, then the table should be inserted with values from email address, timestamp, subject and body. Anyd idea how to realize this functionality?

Start by checking whether your mail server provides any API's for accessing emails , if it does you might be able to reduce a lot of work by using some kind of web service consumer from apex to your mail server. In any case your implementation is going to be dependent on your Mail Server configuration.
Your problem breaks down to reading/accessing mails from the mail server from PLSQL (apex is driven by PLSQL).

If these do not work for you, find some java library to read mail from your server, write a PLSQL wrapper for it and use it in a scheduled job(DBMS_JOB)/a PLSQL block triggered from Apex.
If you get stuck there, find some utility that can read mails, invoke them from your DB using java,shell scrpt,dbms_scheduler etc and use the utility's function for the rest.
NOTE: I haven't tried any of these utilities and you must validate any java code before running them on your environment.
Since aren't really much restrictions(other than spam checks) in sending a mail to your mail account, you might want to consider filtering out the mails from which you create records.

Reading and Updating MS Active Directory (AD) through Oracle APEX

Hi All,
Has anyone ever read and update the AD components using Oracle APEX?
I know we can have APEX build in LDAP Authentication, but that is for the Authentication, what about reading other attributes like phone no., department, office etc. from MS AD; and about updating the same information.
Is Oracle Identity Management the only solution?
Windows 2008 R2 Server provide SOAP based AD web services (ADWS), has anyone used that with APEX (11g R2 with EPG configuration)?
Is it possible to have a C# code (through external procedure) which could read and write MS AD; can we use only "C" code in oracle as external proc or C# as well?

Ash,
It's possible to query data from the LDAP server, but it's not as easy as you'd like. I don't know about updating, but fopr querying, you're looking at creating a package using DBMS_LDAP and a pipelined function to get the data. Here's one example from a quick google search; there are others.
One thing to be aware of that burned me: the default LDAP setting limits requests to 1,000 records. If your search gives more than that, you get an error (and no data at all). So you may find yourself having to use unions to get the full data, which slows things down a bit.

How to implement Dual Authentication in Oracle Apex

Currently I am learning an oracle Apex tools. I am pretty confuse and not able to find any help for authentication scheme offered from oracle Apex. Like I would like to implement dual authentication scheme i.e. I want to implement Database Authentication and LDAP authentication. If user is fail in authenticate in Database Credential then I would like to check him in LDAP Credential. If user is present in LDAP credential then User is able to login. But if user is not present in any of them then again Login page should get displayed.

Dual Authentication doesn't exist as predefined Authentication Scheme, you need to program that yourself.
So what you need to do is create a custom Authentication Scheme where you at first check user credentials against Database and then against LDAP.

Oracle APEX PL/SQL reports

I was wondering if someone can help me with the syntax error, or if someone can give an example how to implement dynamic query based on a select list item.
Last night I was looking how to implement simple PL/SQL report using Oracle Apex source region, but every time I try to run the page I'm getting an error "Flow=128 page=10 ORA-20001: wwv_flow_flash_chart.func_ret_sql_qry_err"
IF I put the same query into SQL developer and replace :P10_STATUS into string 'open', query returns correct results.
It works fine for single table, but not for inner joint.
Any help would be appreciated.
