Oracle Application Hardware Migration using Acronis

Hi,
I’m an Oracle Applications DBA and would really appreciate some other DBA input on the following question.
I have a customer that uses Acronis to backup, restore and image Oracle Applications. Their current instance (11.5.6) is running on really old kit. As a test the windows guys have restored oracle Apps onto a brand new server and started the services. This has worked, which is to be expected (that’s what Acronis does).
My question is “Does Oracle support this method of hardware migration using Acronis”. My understanding is that for hw migration either autoconfig or export+import were the only Supported options.
I know that 11.5.6 is unsupported and come to mention it so is their OS and the fact that they use images as clones. This aside I would be interested in other opinions on weather Acronis is strictly for restoring/imaging a duff system or in fact weather it would be supported by Oracle for Hardware migration. ( With some reasoning please).
I have checked metalink with only one hit (643276.992) but this does not directly answer my question
Thanks in advance to anyone who can reply to this.
Cheers
James

Yes you will be able to do that (migrate/upgrade your 10g Forms & Reports applications to 11g Forms & Reports) and deploy on Oracle Fusion Middleware 11g.
Note that FMW 11g release having Forms & Reports is not yet out. I am not sure about the exact time frame but it is expected to be out sometime this calendar year.

  • Configuring Oracle Application Server to use a user friendly url

    Hi All,
I am having trouble configuring the apache httpd.conf file within an applicaton server to be able to use user-friendly urls for the infrastructure identity management tools server. I also need this for security reasons as well as hardware reasons - loadbalancing.
At the moment I have a standard setup, whereby the sso application server is using port 7777. I would like the user not to enter the port, but to enter just a standard url, like http://login.<company>.com.au, so that if the user needs to modify oid using the oiddas web application, they can enter something like http://login.<company>.com.au/oiddas/ rather than http://<machine host name>:7777/oiddas/. This would also be used by portal for sso logins.
From the standard installation, Apache was configured as follows:
    Port 7777
    Listen 7777
    ServerName <machine host name>
    DocumentRoot <root document folder>
Now reading the documentation from the Oracle Application Server Installation notes for the Http Server, they document how to do this (in the loadbalancer section - this will eventually be used in the hardware setup):
    Port 80
    Listen 7777
    Listen 80
    # Virtual Hosts
    # This section is mandatory for URLs that are generated by
    # the PL/SQL packages of the Oracle Portal and various other components
    # These entries dictate that the server should listen on port
    # 7777, but will assert that it is using port 80, so that
    # self-referential URLs generated specify www.oracle.com:80
    # This will create URLs that are valid for the browser since
    # the browser does not directly see the host server.oracle.com.
    NameVirtualHost <machine ip>:7777
    <VirtualHost <nameofmachine>:7777>
    ServerName login.<company>.com.au
    Port 80
    </VirtualHost>
    # Since the previous virtual host entry will cause all links
    # generated by the Oracle Portal to use port 80, the server.company.com
    # server needs to listen on 80 as well since the Parallel Page
    # Engine will make connection requests to Port 80 to request the
    # portlets.
    NameVirtualHost <machine ip>:80
    <VirtualHost <nameofmachine>:80>
    ServerName login.<company>.com.au
    Port 80
    <VirtualHost>
Note that I used slightly different names for the url's rather than the oracle names www.oracle.com and server.oracle.com
Now after applying this, I noticed not only could I not go to the oiddas from the original machine name, but also couldnt go there from the new machine name.
Also I was not even able to go to the standard index page whereby you can go to the enterprise manager for the application server, from either names.
The following urls provide me with "The Page Cannot Be Displayed" error message:
    http://login.<company>.com.au:7777/
    http://<nameofmachine>:7777/
The following urls provide me with "Page Under Construction" error message:
    http://login.<company>.com.au/
    http://<nameofmachine>/
Could someone please tell me why this is the case, considering I am using the installation procedures Oracle has published within the Oracle Http Server Admistrators Guide (http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B14099_19/web.1012/b14007/netconf.htm#sthref379).
    Cheers
    Rodney

    Hi Rondey,
Ik think that I can see your probleem.
Just change the following line at your httpd.conf, then restart the component.
First of all if the port is installed with nr. 7777. then the listen process will be on port 7778
the second thing is just try to do the following steps
    ((Port 80 to Port 7777)))
    Listen 7778
    %%%% In loadbalancer section %%%%%%
    just add the following lines
    Listen 80
    Listen 8103
    Listen 8102
    NameVirtualHost *
    NameVirtualHost *:8103 or 80
If you want to use this ports (8103 or 8102) for other site (url), then
    <VirtualHost *:80>
ServerName <machine ip> or (host name)
    Hear from U,
    Regards,
    Hamdy

    Hi,
I have not experience with Oracle Names resolution, but did you start the server "NAMESCTL> START" ? (I'm not sure)
On the client, the SQLNET.ORA file contains an entry that lists onames first in the NAMES.DIRECTORY_PATH parameter ?
    e.g.: NAMES.DIRECTORY_PATH=(onames, tnsnames, hostname)
There are some messages on the listener.log file ?

For your EBS version, it's 32-bit for the application tier node -- Please see (Oracle Applications Installation Update Notes, Release 11i (11.5.10.2) (Doc ID 316806.1)) for details.
If your question is related to patching EBS, please see (Can the 64 bit version of patch 8888184 be applied to a 32 bit OS? (Doc ID 1054058.1)) which also answers your main question as well.

  • Migrate solaris 8 oracle applications to solaris 10 using oracle vm

    Hi,
I have Oracle Applications 11.5.8 running on Solaris 8 on SPARC machine (the forms and concurrent servers) and Linux SLES9 for the Oracle 9i database server.
I am exploring if it's possible to migrate the forms and concurrent tier from Solaris 8 on SPARC to a Solaris 10 Oracle VM running on x86 platform. That is, 1) install Oracle VM on x86 platform 2) install solaris 10 on the solaris container of this VM (solaris 8 not supported) 3) try to move forms and concurrent application tier to this solaris 10.
Has anyone tried this before or know whether it can be done?

  • Hardware Migration of Oracle Application

We have recently migrated oracle applications from one server to another server. Following steps were done.
    1. Install operating system (Windows 2000 and related patch on new server)
    2. Install oracle application on new server
    3. Stop all services on old and new server
    4. copy all folders from old server to new server
    5. restart services on new sevrer
Everything is working fine, if the number of users are less than 5.
When 5th user logged on, the application starts creating problem. On server, application error mesage appears that shows "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000142). Click on ok to terminate application". This starts from application ping.exe and then tnsping80.exe and then fndwrr.exe etc
After above erros shown on the server, concurrent manager ends up all request with error. The log of error shows that permission is denied to create file in temp folder of prodcomm.
Any help to sort out above problem and to save the data (entered by users on new server) is required.

Thanks Fadi and Hussian for your valuable comments. I understand that this is not standard practice. In fact, we tried this logic after reviewing the whole process of cloning exercise. First we tried all this on test instance and it was working fine. After testing the method this is applied on PROD.

the 3rd party tool is ETL , you can use ETL tool and the prepare the load files then you can use LSMW method to upload the data to SAP.

  • Hardware Sizing for Oracle Application Server and MapViewer

    Hi all,
I need to develop an application using Oracle Application Server 10g and MapViewer. The applicaction will, basically, do thematic maps based on a search criteria. The estimative is that we will have 25 users simultaneously using it.
I´d like to have an idea about the hardware to support it.
Do you know where I can get this information?
    Any documentation can help.
    Regards,
    Luis Augusto

    Hi Luis,
It may depend on your database size, but I think at least you need to meet the minimum requirements for the Application Server. You can find additional documentation for the AS at http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/ias/index.html.
However I would suggest some extra memory, and if possible the better CPU that you can get. MapViewer will render the spatial features on the server side, and depending on your database size and number of features returned from the queries, this extra memory will help.

    }hi,
Thanks i used your coding and it works well...
i also used other thing i inserting the queries and values in another schema with primary and foreign keys.. it works well..
but problem is i cannot retrieve the unique constraint and other check constraint..
    i cannot insert it..
and also i cannot create table in order i create the original..
because the retrieve query s values display based on ascending order i want display query in creation time...
because when i foreign keys .. the references in available before i create the table..that means a(table name) followed b(table name) .. a(table name) has contain foreign key of b(table name) .. but b (table name) not yet to create .. is possible.. to retrieve based creation time...
