Oracle application server middle tier not starting

I installed oracle 10g application server( version 10.1.2) in windows 2003 server.
In the same machine we have infrastucture and middle tier installed.
last 6 months it is working fine.
now i stop all from ias console to stop the middle tier.
in the ias console page it is showing all component is down.
Now when i click on start all it is giving error "all components are already started."
But in the ias console page all component are showing down.
Now if i give stop all then it is showing error all component already stop.
Please let me know where is the problem.
Thanks and Regards,
Partha

You have Infrastructure and middle tier is running in the same box. please consider the below steps.
Because middle tiers depend on OracleAS Infrastructure services, you need to ensure that the OracleAS Infrastructure services are started first, followed by middle-tier services. You can do this in the following ways:
1.Give the OracleAS Infrastructure an Oracle home name that alphabetically comes before the middle-tier name. (When you restart a computer, Windows typically starts up services in alphabetical order.) For example: name the OracleAS Infrastructure "Infra", and name the middle tier "J2EE".
2.Edit the registry (using the Registry Editor) to delay the start of the middle-tier services by setting up dependencies between the OracleAS Infrastructure and middle-tier services. You do this after installing both OracleAS Infrastructure and middle tier. See Section 16.6, "Service Dependencies" for details.

  • CF8 Application Server Service Will NOT Start

    I ran into this error:
         java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space
and after researching it it seemed that I should up the max heap size on the Java/JVM page, so I increased my max heap size to 1044MB from 512, via the CF Administrator, I also added maxPermSize= 256m.  Then I restarted the server, but the Application Server service will not start.
I opened home/runtim/bin/jvm.config and set the heap size to 1024, restart, service still wont start.
Set the max heap size to 512 and removed maxPermSize, restarted server, service still won't start.
    Set the entire java.args equal to: -server -Xmx256m -Dsun.io.useCanonCaches=false -xx:MaxPermsize=128m -XX:+UseParallelGC -Dcoldfusion.rootDir={application.home}/../ -Dcoldfusion.libPath={application.home}/../lib -Dcoldfusion.classPath={application.home}/../lib/updates,{application.home}/../lib,{appli cation.home}/../gateway/lib/,{application.home}/../wwwroot/WEB-INF/flex/jars,{application. home}/../wwwroot/WEB-INF/cfform/jars
Restarted, still the services will not start.
    Does anyone have any ideas?
The error I get when trying to start the services is:
Windows could not start the ColdFusion 8 Application Server on Local Computer.  For more information, review the System Even Log.  If this is a non-Microsoft service, contact the service vendor, and refore to service-specific error code 2.
    Thanks!

Once you have ColdFusion running again this will bring you back to your initial problem:
    java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space
Suggest take a copy of your working JVM.CONFIG (so you have a backup) then add some debugging to the JVM Arguments eg:
    # Arguments to VM
    java.args=-server  -Xmx512m -Dsun.io.useCanonCaches=false -XX:MaxPermSize=192m -XX:+UseParallelGC -XX:+PrintGCDetails -XX:+PrintGCTimeStamps -XX:+PrintHeapAtGC -verbose:gc -Xloggc:cfjvmGC.log -Dcoldfusion.rootDir={application.home}/../ -Dcoldfusion.libPath={application.home}/../lib -Dcoldfusion.classPath={application.home}/../lib/updates,{application.home}/../lib,{appli cation.home}/../gateway/lib/,{application.home}/../wwwroot/WEB-INF/flex/jars,{application. home}/../wwwroot/WEB-INF/cfform/jars
Once ColdFusion is restarted again a log file will be created called \ColdFusion8\runtime\bin\cfjvmgc.log. Open the log file and you will be able to see how the New, Tenure and Permanent memory spaces are working. Given you now know which buffer is filling (excluding New made up of Eden and a couple Survivor spaces - because those fill and empty all the time) you can make adjustments to JVM.CONFIG knowing which value you intend to alter. Likely you want to alter either Xmx or MaxPermSize. When you think the Java heap space is resolved turn logging off by removing the bolded details.

  • Oracle Application server goes sluggish on starting Control Services

    Hi Guys,
I am facing a unique problem.
All services in INFRA and AS are running fine.
But the moment I start "OracleORA_ASASControl" and "OracleORA_InfraASControl" services, application server goes sluggish all processes seems to halt.
Even "Application Web Server for Forms" doesnt respond.
And when I stop these services then rest of all services perform as usual.
Is it happening because of some log getting filled or some cache getting filled?
    Note : Application server - 10g
    Can anyone help in this?
    Thanks!

  • Oracle WorkFlow Server (Middle Tier Components)

    To OWB Gurus,
I'm trying to install Oracle WorkFlow Server to create Process Flows and Schedule for the ETL mappings that I have. When tryin to install WorkFlow Server, it specifies to install Middle-Tier Components. My question is for creating the WorkFlow Process and Scheduling do I need to have the Middle-Tier Components installed? Can I create the flows without the middle tier components ?
    -AW

You can deploy and run processflows without OWF middle-tier,
but this component (Workflow monitor) is very helpful for monitoring and control of processflow

  • Urgent-Application server 9 will not start

The Sun Java System Application System could not start. I am using Netbeans 5.5. The following was displayed.
More information about the causes is in the Server log file.
    Possible reasons include;
    - IDE timeoout: refresh the server node to see if its running now.
    - Port conflicts. (use netstat - a to detect possible port numbers already used by the operating system.)
    - Incorrupt server configuration (domain.xml to be corrected manually)
    - Corrupted Deployed Applications preventing the server to start. (This can be seen in the server.log file. In this case, domain.xml needs to be modified).
I would like to reset the domain.xml file as though no project has ever been deployed to the server how can this be done. Please help.

    The files at
    http://otn.oracle.com/software/products/ias/workflow/htdocs/winsoft.html
are for Oracle Workflow version 2.6.0. Here is some information from the announcement for downloading the latest version, 2.6.3:
Oracle Workflow 2.6.3 for Oracle Database 10g is now available for download from OTN.
Please point your browsers to http://otn.oracle.com/software/index.html
Currently, the availability is limited to Windows and we are working towards availability on other platforms. I will post another message as soon as it becomes available.
The Workflow Server requires an Oracle 10g database home and the Workflow mid-tier requires an Oracle HTTP Server home - Apache Install from the Oracle 10g Companion CD. For more information please read the installation notes.

  • Oracle Application Server Infrastructure  & Middle Tiers?

    Hi,
Can someone explain in simple words what is meant by Oracle Application Server Infrastructure and Oracle Application Server Middle Tiers and what the difference is between them?
    Thanks!

    That's right.
mainly there are two major groups of components in infrastructure:
    - identity management (including Single-Sign-On, Oracle Internet Directory, Oracle Certificate Authority, some security schemas, etc), and
    - metadata repository (which houses data even portal in the default installation if you have one)
middle-tiers run the applications. if you have java or OC4J applications, you will run them from mid-tier; or forms and reports or Business Intelligence, or portals & wireless, all would run from a midtier. but all will use infrastructure for a security, access (SSO), directory services, etc. you can have multiple midtiers connected to the same infrastructure too.

  • Oracle Application Server 10g Cloning - Urgent

    Hello All,
I have been given a new assignment which involves Oracle Applications server 10g, i am new to oracle application server and hoping that some one will please clarify my doubts.
i have to clone a production machine (Solaris 10) which has oracle AS 10g, this machine had oracle database 10g before and just the application server was installed on it, i have to clone a test environment for this machine, i have the following two doubts
    1) Is it possible to just install Oracle Application server 10g on a machine which already contains oracle 10g database, if so then what about the database that gets installed when installing Oracle application server 10g.
    2) How to clone the above production machine, should the oracle 10g database be cloned first and then oracle application server 10g cloned on the new machine?
    Eagerly waiting for a reply

    2) How to clone the above production machine, should the oracle 10g database be cloned first and then oracle application server 10g cloned on the new machine?1) Yes, it is possible. The DB that comes with OAS as the infrastructure DB for it (I presume you are installing a full OAS with infrastructure and midtier both) does not affect the DB you already have on your system ... obviously ... as long as you install them in their separate homes.
    2) I always say, this term cloning is somewhat loosely used in general communication meaning making copies. In OAS context, Cloning works for middletiers only. You cannot clone an infrastructure.
To make a redundant/alternate environment for OAS, you can do the following:
    - a) either use the same infra on machine 1, and install another midtier and register with the same infra.
    - b) or install a separate infra on machine 2, and also a midtier registered with it.
Here for the first option a), Cloning can be used because you can (*only*) clone a middle-tier. There are pros and cons for this setup, including that you share the SSO, and OID, and hence users and groups bases, etc on those two environments - something that you may or may not want. But then there are also some way-outs to avoid them or minimize their effects too. Please see the following reference for cloning and search on Metalink for how to minimize effects, once you get better familiar with the processes.

For b), you will need to Stage a server as defined in this reference.
    [11 Staging a Test Environment from a Production Environment|http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B14099_19/core.1012/b13995/prodtest.htm]
There are some notes on Metalink which address issues about benefits or procedures of Cloning and Staging an environment too.
There are some other ways to export/transport your applications to another instance across DB. Please also read about them.
    hope that helps!

  • Oracle Application Server 10g/Oracle Fusion Middleware 11g

Hi folks, This question related to migration/upgrade of Oracle Application Server infrastructure.
I see that the Oracle has come up with Oracle Fusion Middleware 11g. Is it the next release of Oracle Application Server 10g. I have the following questions. Appreciate if any one can provide answers to the following questions. Please correct me if my understanding of these oracle products is not right! Thanks
    1. What is the future of Oracle Application Server?
    2. Is it Oracle Fusion Middleware(OFM) 11g is the upgrade path if one need
    to upgrade?
    3. Is it expected that expected that customers need(if require) to move to OFM 11g?
    4. Does OFM 10g comes with Oracle Application Server? If not what does
    it comes with?
    5. If it does not, what about customers having applications built using oracle forms and reports? Does OFG 11g
    support Oracle forms and reports?
I understand that OFM 10g comes with Oracle web logic server!
    Thanks in advance.
    movva

To run Forms and Reports in Oracle Fusion Middleware 11g you have to use the distribution "Portal, Forms, Reports and Discoverer" in the FMW 11g software pack.
The structure of what we used to call "the application server" has changed a bit however, in the following way:
    - In 11g you need to install the Javaserver WebLogic software (version 10.3.3 for the current Forms 11g version 11.1.1.3) first.
In 10g the installation of the Javaserver (OC4J) was part of the App server install.
Note that you just have to install the software, the configuration script for creating a Forms app server instance creates the WebLogic domain (comparable with the OC4J instance) for you.
    - In 11g the Fusion Middleware software installation is separate from the creation of an application server instance.
This is more convenient and comparable to Oracle database and Weblogic installation.
    - The Fusion Middleware Configuration script installs two parts of the product: 1. A WebLogic Domain. 2. A Fusion Middleware instance.
The first contains everything related to Java, such as the servlet configuration file (formsweb.cfg), while the latter contains everything that has less to do with the Javaserver
    - No more Infrastructure server
The Infrastructure server does not exist anymore. If you want to use Single Sign On with Forms/Reports 11g you can install Identity Management 10.1.4.3 (or use Identity Management 11g, and configure separately the 10.1.4.3 Single Sign On) or keep your old 10g Infrastructure installation.
During installation you just have to specify you want to use OID and SSO and it configures out of the box.
Under normal circumstances the same licenses apply to 10g and 11g (as long as you do not use WebLogic for other purposes).

  • Deploying Shared Services in Oracle Application Server

Has anyone deployed Shared Services (9.3.1) in Oracle Application Server? We are trying to deploy SS in Oracle Application Server and are not able to do it. Any suggestions?

I think SS work's only under Apache Tomcat
I was try deploy SS 9.2.1 and 9.3.1 on Oracle iAS and Weblogic 9.2.MP1
and have similar error.(- can't register planning application)
But Planning and EAS on Oralce and Weblogic works fine .
p.s. OiAS - it's closed product - use Weblogic for new ENV.

Hi I installed Oracle application server 10g. I successfully installed it. But when i stopped the opmn and emctl process and now when i am trying to start i am able to successfully start but when i type the URL of OAS Admin console. I get following error:

Can any one please help me resolve this issue at the earliest?

    Hi,
Now I'm just thinking with U because error 500 can be result of different reasons. I think (I'm not sure)at this situation it has to do with java version.
    AIX 5.3 has java version 1.4.2. .
Would U like to go $ORACLE_HOME\jdk\jre\bin\ then just type ./java -full version or java version.
    Which result U 'll get.
    also type in which java
moreover can U give me the output of the env command.
the last step before U start any as process just do the following
ps -ef | grep (owner of your as)
if U 'll find any process just kill it kill -15 process id if it does not help then hard kill with -9
try to set your environement variable well then start your opmn components again per-process to see which process is going wrong.
    Let me know,
    Regards
    Hamdy
