Oracle Applications 11.5.9 on Windows Server 2003

Hi
I see that there are many topics here about installing Oracle Applications on Windows Platform.
I reasently installed 11.5.9 on Windows Server 2003 at the customer site and I had a LOT of problems there but finished successfully after great help through TAR on Metalink.
But now I am doing the same install here at my office to have test environment and then I get problems with winzip. I am using the same staging area(have created that from scratch couple of times) but no luck.
What I get is "Unzip failed, Check log for details" and then I check the log but it does not tell me anything except that WinZip fails.
Has anyone run into this problem?
regards
Snjolaug

My problem on the first install was that I installed wrong version of JDK. But after I installed the right version, changes the config and XML file, everything worked.
But now the staging area is not working for another install and I was wondering if someone have run unto same problem with unzip.

    Hi Srini,
The issue is resolved. Thanks for your response.
The issue is, windows 2003 server is 32 bit and I am trying to install 64 bit 11g database. I tried installing 32 bit 11g database. Before that I have cleared the traces of virtual box in my host system and reinstalled it and tried. It worked out.
    Thanks

  • Incorrect download file for Oracle 9.2.0.1 for Windows server 2003

    Hi,
I am trying to get hold of the Oracle 9.2.0.1 client software for Windows server 2003 from <http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/oracle9i/index.html> the link is in the section "Oracle9i Release 2 (9.2.0.1)", titled "Oracle9i Database Release 2 Enterprise/Standard/Personal/Client Edition for Windows Server 2003 (32-bit)"
I follow the links through and download the OUI and "9.2.0.1" software, however after downloading and unzipping the package it seems that the download was actually the 9.2.0.3 patch that cannot be installed without 9.2.0.1 installed first. I tried this on Friday and today with the same results.
Could you tell me how I get hold of the 9.2.0.1 client software for Windows Server 2003 please?
    Thanks,
    Mark Williams

As Windows 2003 is officially released this week, I believe Oracle will shortly announce which versions of the database will be supported on Windows 2003. Stay tuned.

  • How to Install Oracle Data Access Components (ODAC) on Windows Server 2003?

I recently installed "32-bit Oracle Data Access Components (ODAC) with Oracle Developer Tools for Visual Studio" on my computer (Windows 7, 64bit). Everything seems fine and I can develop and run my application in Visual Studio 2010 and IIS 7.
Now, when I deploy my application to the Server, it raises error:
Exception: System.TypeInitializationException: The type initializer for 'Oracle.DataAccess.Client.OracleCommand' threw an exception. ---> Oracle.DataAccess.Client.OracleException: The provider is not compatible with the version of Oracle client
Obviously I need to install ODAC on the server, too. My server is:
    - Windows 2003 32 bit R2 (I know, I know!)
    - IIS 6
So. I downloaded the same installation from Oracle website (ODAC 11.2 Release 5 and Oracle Developer Tools for Visual Studio [11.2.0.3.20]) and installed it on the server. But still getting the same error.
PS: When I was installing, I chose Oracle Data Access Component for Oracle Client 11.2.0.3.20 in Oracle Universal Installer. hmmmm. Should I choose "Oracle Server" instead? Screenshot

ODP.NET, Unmanaged Driver uses unmanaged dependencies in the Oracle Client. The error you see means you have another Oracle Client installed on the Win2003 machine and ODP.NET is attempting to load the incorrect Oracle Client version, rather than the version you installed ODP.NET with.
What you need to do is direct ODP.NET where to find the correct version of its unamanaged Oracle Client dependencies. This will be generally the bin directory of your Oracle Client home that was installed with ODP.NET.
You can learn more about DllPath here:

I have searched for 10g R2 64 bit Oracle databases versions on MS windows server 2003 but din't gent any
I am not sure whether this database works for 64 bit MS windows server 2003
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/database/oracle10g/htdocs/10201winx64soft.html
please let me know from where I can download 64-Bit 10g R2 Oracle Enterprise DB for 64-bit MS windows server 2003

    Thanks in Advance

If you are running the x64 version of Windows 2003 and not the Itanium version, you will find 10.2.0.1 here:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/database/oracle10g/htdocs/10201winx64soft.html
You may then patch it to 10.2.0.3 by downloading the patch from Metalink.

  • Do I need the /3gb switch on Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition

I have an Oracle 10g database running on a Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition with 16gb of RAM. Do I need to set the /3gb and or /PAE switch in the boot.ini file for Oracle to use this memory?

This metalink doc talking pretty extensively about the setting
Implementing Address Windowing Extensions (AWE) or VLM on Windows Platforms
    Doc ID: Note:225349.1
As you might know 32bit system has limitation of 4G max addressable memory issue. In Windows that's 2G limit because Windows reserve 2G for system. With /3G switch you can let Application address 3G with 1G for OS, if your system has more than 4G you need to use /PAE to address memory beyond 4G.
Of course if you don't plan to allocate more than 2G to Oracle SGA then don't need the settings.

  • Oracle 11.2.0.3 on Windows Server 2008 R2 64-bit

    Good night Oracle community,
I'm having problems on using Oracle 11.2.0.3 on Windows Server 2008 R2 64-bit that runs inside a virtual machine.
The first problem was the error ORA-12152 (unable to send break message) when using a 32-bit server version when trying to connect via SQLPlus using domain administrator user. I did reboot, tnsping, checked parameters and oracle support articles but neither help me. So I uninstalled it and installed the 64-bit version and it wasn't possible to run the applications like netca.
Now I installed it on a local profile version 32-bit to see if the problem was related to the domain.
My question is simple: is this environment ok to run a production database server? 11.2.0.3 is that stable with Windows 2008?
    Thank you very much!

Oracle Database 11.2.0.3.0 is certified on Microsoft Windows (32-bit) 2008.
    Error: ORA 12152
Text: TNS:unable to send break message
Cause: Unable to send break message. Connection probably disconnected.
Action: Re-establish connection. If the error is persistent, turn
n tracing and reexecute the operation.

  • Out of memory using Windows Server 2003 and Oracle 9.2.0.3

    Hi,
I just installed both Windows Server 2003 and Oracle 9.2.0.3. The server I am using has 4 gigabytes of memory installed, and windows shows that to be the actual physical memory on the server. The paging file is 8 gigabytes for a total of 12 gigabytes of virtual memory.
Using the Oracle Database Configuration Assistant, I create a new database using default values. After verifying the installation worked OK (database started, queries ran), I attempted to change some of the memory parameters and was able to start the database using about 1.4 gigabytes of total SGA, with the O/S using about .3 gigabytes for a total of 1.7 gigabytes. I then attempted to change the buffer cache + 1 gigabyte for a total of 2 gigabytes. Now the database will not start and I get an out of memory error ora-27102 with an additional O/S memory error of "O/S Error: (OS 8) Not enough storage is available to process this command".
    So, I have two problems:
    1) With 4 gigabytes installed, and the O/S using only about 300 megabytes, why isn't Oracle able to take advantage of the memory on this machine past the 1.7 gigabytes (as reported by Windows task manager).
    2) How do I change the spfile memory parameters so the database will start using spfile? I can start the database pointing to a pfile with lesser memory parameters, but I don't know how to effect change on the spfile, since I cannot start with the spfile.
Both these technologies (9.2.0.3 and Server 2003) are new to me, so any insight would be appreciated!
HERE ARE THE SPFILE PARAMETERS THAT WORKED:

    CREATE SPFILE
    Purpose
Use the CREATE SPFILE statement to create a server parameter file from a client-side initialization parameter file. Server parameter files are binary files that exist only on the server and are called from client locations to start up the database.
Server parameter files let you make persistent changes to individual parameters. When you use a server parameter file, you can specify in an ALTER SYSTEM SET parameter statement that the new parameter value should be persistent. This means that the new value applies not only in the current instance, but also to any instances that are started up subsequently. Traditional client-side parameter files do not let you make persistent changes to parameter values. Because they are located on the server, these files allow for automatic database tuning by Oracle and for backup by Recovery Manager (RMAN).
To use a server parameter file when starting up the database, you must create it from a traditional text initialization parameter file using the CREATE SPFILE statement.
All instances in an Real Application Clusters environment must use the same server parameter file. However, when otherwise permitted, individual instances can have different settings of the same parameter within this one file. Instance-specific parameter definitions are specified as SID.parameter = value, where SID is the instance identifier.
The method of starting up the database with a server parameter file depends on whether you create a default or nondefault server parameter file. Please refer to "Creating a Server Parameter File: Examples" for examples of how to use server parameter files.
    See Also:
CREATE PFILE for information on creating a regular text parameter file from a binary server parameter file
Oracle9i Database Administrator's Guide for information on pre-Oracle9i initialization parameter files and Oracle9i server parameter files
Oracle9i Real Application Clusters Administration for information on using server parameter files in a Real Application Clusters environment
    Prerequisites
You must have the SYSDBA or the SYSOPER system privilege to execute this statement. You can execute this statement before or after instance startup. However, if you have already started an instance using spfile_name, you cannot specify the same spfile_name in this statement.
    Syntax
    create_spfile::=
    Text description of create_spfile
    Semantics
    spfile_name
This clause lets you specify a name for the server parameter file you are creating.
If you do not specify spfile_name, Oracle uses the platform-specific default server parameter filename. If spfile_name already exists on the server, this statement will overwrite it. When using a default server parameter file, you start up the database without referring to the file by name.
If you do specify spfile_name, you are creating a nondefault server parameter file. In this case, to start up the database, you must first create a single-line traditional parameter file that points to the server parameter file, and then name the single-line file in your STARTUP command.
    See Also:
"Creating a Server Parameter File: Examples" for information on starting up the database with default and nondefault server parameter files
Oracle9i Database Administrator's Guide for Windows (or other appropriate operating system specific documentation) for default parameter file names
    pfile_name
Specify the traditional initialization parameter file from which you want to create a server parameter file.
If you specify pfile_name, the parameter file must reside on the server. If it does not reside in the default directory for parameter files on your operating system, you must specify the full path.
If you do not specify pfile_name, Oracle looks in the default directory for parameter files on your operating system for the default parameter filename, and uses that file. If that file does not exist in the expected directory, Oracle returns an error.
    Note:
In a Real Application Clusters environment, you must first combine all instance parameter files into one file before specifying it in this statement to create a server parameter file. For information on accomplishing this step, see Oracle9i Real Application Clusters Setup and Configuration.
    Examples
Creating a Server Parameter File: Examples
The following example creates a default server parameter file from a client initialization parameter file named t_init1.ora:
    CREATE SPFILE
    FROM PFILE = '$ORACLE_HOME/work/t_init1.ora';
    Note:
Typically you will need to specify the full path and filename for parameter files on your operating system. Please refer to your Oracle operating system documentation for path information.
When you create a default server parameter file, you subsequently start up the database using that server parameter file by using the SQL*Plus command STARTUP without the PFILE parameter, as follows:
    STARTUP
The following example creates a nondefault server parameter file s_params.ora from a client initialization file named t_init1.ora:
    CREATE SPFILE = 's_params.ora'
    FROM PFILE = '$ORACLE_HOME/work/t_init1.ora';
When you create a nondefault server parameter file, you subsequently start up the database by first creating a traditional parameter file containing the following single line:
    spfile = 's_params.ora'
The name of this parameter file must comply with the naming conventions of your operating system. You then use the single-line parameter file in the STARTUP command. The following example shows how to start up the database, assuming that the single-line parameter file is named new_param.ora:
    STARTUP PFILE=new_param.ora

  • JRE Error : while Install oracle 10gR2 on Windows Server 2003

    Hello,
I am trying to install a Oracle 10gR2 on windows server 2003.
I have unziped the files and when I run the oui.exe it gives the below error:
cannot find any matches for wildcard specification "../stage/components/oracle.swd.jre/1.5.0.0./1/DataFiles/*.jar
Error : JRE missing in Scratch Path
I tried changing the oraparmaini file but it did not allow to make any changes.
Not sure if its looking for any particular java files.
What should i edit ,to specify the java location.
    Thanks

What exactly did you unzip? This error occurs if there are several zip-files extracted to different target locations. But - if I remember correctly - 10gR2 database is only one zip-file, so you should not face this issue. JRE for OUI is part of the downloaded software,so you don't need to specify a location for JRE, OUI knows where to find this.

  • Symantec antivirus Best practice for oracle database on windows server 2003

    Hi all,
I have an oracle database server on windows server 2003 platform of version 10.2.0.4. what would be best practice of running symantec antivirus on that server as well as database file exclusions from scanning them.
My server had rebooted unexpectedly for many times. in event log i have id as 6008. what may be cause of it..?

Normally, you don't run a virus scanner on a database server because your database server isn't vulnerable to viruses. It's behind firewalls, people aren't reading mail on it, people aren't plugging thumb drives into it, etc. If you do decide that you need to run a virus scanner on a database server, at least exclude the Oracle data files from the scan. Oracle gets very unhappy if someone else tries to open its data files (or, worse, if someone opens a data file before it gets the chance to acquire exclusive access).

  • Oracle 10g on Windows Server 2003 Standard 64bit

We are running Oracle 10g on Windows Server 2003 Standard 64bit Edition. I am NOT a DBA, so forgive my ignorance.
We have 16GB of physical memory in this server. I was told by a DBA that Oracle runs on "a single process", and because of that, he said that Windows Server 2003 Standard will only allow 2GB max for a single process.
    Can anyone confirm this? Thanks.

This sounds more lika a Windows issue. If both Windows and app is "64-bit", I would expect the user virtual address space (per process) to be in the TiB range, if not larger.
(The said 2GiB limit applies to a 32-bit system.)
