Oracle authetication and proxy authetication

Hello,
I am using 10g, thin driver and using oracle proxy authetication.
We have an 'appuser' which is used to setup the connection pool, and the atual user gets the connection from the pool and uses proxy authetication to do the job.
Currently proxyauthetication do not autheticate oracle user, all it needs is oracle username and NOT user password.
Anybody who knows, appuser, username and passowrd, can logon on to oracle, and proxy over to anyuser (since it needs only username) and perform any operation onbehalf of that user. This is a serious security issue for us.
Is there is clean work around for this situation?

I'm Mark Wilcox, the Product Manager for Oracle Virtual Directory.
First- the plug-in is "subschemaentry". That is a typo in the docs which we will fix.
Second - The primary purpose of Enterprise User Security is to centralize the management of database users and roles. To address an earlier question in the thread - "Do I need to map every user in AD to every user in the database" - the answer is "depends". Most applications do not actually use local database accounts - they instead do all actions at the middle-tier (though there are mechanisms such as Proxy Users that can be used to pass the context to the database). So these days primarily the only direct users are normally DBAs and some Business Intellegence reporting applications. Additionally EUS supports the notion of "shared schema" where you can map 1 DB user to multiple LDAP entries, but most organizations use a 1 to 1 mapping. And there are a variety of means to do this. I would recommend Oracle Identity Manager and make this as one of your elements of your enterprise provisioning process. However, you can of course use another 3rd party provisioning system.

I am using 10g, and bea 81 sp3, I am trying to setup proxy authetication. All the references I find for proxy authetication are using OCI driver. Is proxy authetication supported using oracle 10g thin driver (ojdbc14.jar)? Can anyone tell me, what drivers are support proxy authetication under oracle 10g?
Also application servers like bea will not give you oracledata source if you use bea to setup oracle connection pool, is there a easy work around that?

I actaully wanted to implement proxy authetication using thin driver (no oci) but i can't figure out ...and all examples i saw were using thin driver..I found many articles which says that thin driver does support proxy authetication and I am using all latest (10g)..so..:-(

Are you referring to the following variables? If yes, then it is whenever you need the application to connect to the internet and a proxy server is required (an example is when you want to access Metalink from OAM to download application patches).

Your proxy instance should start. The error you are seeing should only be for the admin server. Add the location of where your jvm.so is located to the LD_LIBRARY_PATH. The jvm.so is located under the JDK directory.

Migrate certificate 3.x to Oracle iPlanet Web Proxy Server 4.0.20

I try to migrate from Sun iPlanet Web Proxy Server(SPWPS) 3.6 to Oracle iPlanet Web Proxy Server(OPWPS) 4.0.20 and I have some problem.
I have an instance in SPWPS-3.6 with SSL certificate, when I migrate it to OPWPS-4.0.20 using the admin interface, the certificate
is not migrate with this error message :
Migrating Keys and Certificates...
[Error] The password entered for the key is not valid
Assimilation failed.
But I am sure to enter the right password.
After that I manage the new instance in administration interface, and in Security Panel, there is a choice to "Migrate 3.x certificate"
I try this, but I get this error message

The password entered is not valide
Can somebody help me to resolve this problem ?

Help me install oracle form and report 9.0.4 on red hat AS 4 x86

i installed oracle database 10.0.2 on my red hat AS 4 x86 in /u01/app/oracle/product/10.0.2/db_1. Now i want to install oracle form and report 9.0.4 on my computer in /u02/app/oracle/product/9.0.4
The oracle installer checks for required packages. It will produce the following list of missing packeges:

Package compat-gcc-7.3-2.96.122 is missing
Package compat-gcc-c++-7.3-2.96.122 is missing
Package compat-libstdc++-7.3-2.96.122 is missing

The requirements for installing 10.2.0 and 9.0.4 on RHEL4 differ - 9.0.4 is based on older versioned RSFs and require linking against older compatibility libraries.
The OUI may incorrectly complain if later versions of the required/pre-requisite packages really are installed - this should not be a problem functionally, however.
The latter errors you report, however (make, relocation error, glibc/symbol), are symptomatic of trying to link with/against incompatible gcc/glibc versions. Try installing the following additional compatibility files (appropriate for your architecture);
- http://oss.oracle.com/projects/compat-oracle/dist/files/RedHat/compat-oracle-rhel4-1.0-5.i386.rpm
- http://oss.oracle.com/projects/compat-oracle/dist/files/RedHat/compat-libcwait-2.1-1.i386.rpm
If you have not already done so, I suggest you create and use (i.e. source) separate environment definition files when working with each product/version environment. For 9.0.4, ensure that you specify environment variable LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.4.19 before installing 9.0.4 (or relinking).
If you have MetaLink access, refer also to Note.315832.1, Note.389811.1.

Oracle configuration manager proxy setting

I m trying to install Agent speratly using this file

after unzip and using runninstaller......
but durring asking the configuration it ask for the
"oracle configuration manager proxy setting"
even it is opptional and i hav not checked it .... it is not going next.
i dont want to configure it (but when i give values proxy ip and port, not accept it).
plz solve this issue

Issues with utl_https, Oracle Wallet and firewall

Hello Everyone,
We are experimenting with Oracle wallet and utl_http and are attempting to do an https transfer, but we are facing some problems. I will appreciate your help greatly if you can advise on what could be wrong. We are on db version 10.2.0.1 and Unix HP-UX and are operating from within a firewall. The intention is to ping an https url and get a simple 200 response. Future development would include get/post XML documents from that url and other interesting stuff. I understand that utl_http with Oracle wallet can be used for this purpose.
The wallet has been created and the ewallet.p12 exists. We downloaded the SSL certificate from the url's website and uploaded into the wallet. Everything works if I put in a url with plain http but then things don't work with an HTTP*S* url. Is something called HTTPS TUNNELLING required because we have a firewall? I have no idea what this is or how it can be done.
I tried https with an internal urls within the firewall. But again, no luck. - So probably not just a firewall issue.
With HTTPS when I run the below code I get the following error with internal or external https sites. Again, greatly appreciate your time and help because this is the first time we are using Oracle wallet manager and do not know where to go from here.

When your network traffic (e.g. from UTL_HTTP) goes via a firewall, there is nothing special or specific you need to do. UTL_HTTP is an application protocol. The firewall deals with the lower level wire protocol.
Otoh, if your http/https traffic goes via a proxy, you need to do specific steps in UTL_HTTP (like setting the proxy and supplying credentials if needed).
So I'm not sure what you are saying above.. a firewall cannot supply web authentication details for web server access.
Then I commented out set_proxy, set_authentication. I was still able to establish SSL handshake with https://ihavefirewallrule.com and retrieve data. Seems like "firewall rule" took care of proxy authentication also.
Proxy authentication only applies when the proxy expects authentication. And as I mentioned, a firewall does use username authentication, and nor can supply authentication as an application protocol proxy.
Now it gets even weirder. I even commented out the set_wallet part. It still worked! I was able to establish a SSL handshake with https://ihavefirewallrule.com e.g. https://verisign.com.
In the same Oracle session? You'll need to check how wallet access is handled. I think that once opened in a session it stays open - thus subsequent code does not need to explicitly open the wallet again.
In our test instance both Apache web server and DB server are on the same machine.
Is somehow utl_http using our Apache server's SSL certificates to connect to https://ihavefirewallrule.com?
Not possible. Oracle does not know anything of such an Apache installation at a s/w level. Nor will it borrow and use anything from such installed s/w.
Would opening up 443/tcp port to firewall + proxy_authentication in the code resolve these issues? I think your comment in previous e-mail regarding port 80 and 443 hints at this.That depends on the s/w layers you have between UTL_HTPP and the remote web server - and I'm not clear whether you are using just a firewall, just a proxy, both, or a single piece of s/w that attempts to be both a wire protocol firewall and an application protocol proxy..
The best would be to talk to the network administrator on your side. As you are accessing that remote site from an Oracle server using UTL_HTTP for production purposes, it means that "trusted" server access can be configured. In such a case, opening tcp ports 443 and 80 for the server's IP on the firewall should be considered. No web proxy used. The routing table of the Oracle server setup to ensure that traffic to external sites be routed via the firewall.
Not an Oracle issue.. but simply one of network connectivity between the server platform running Oracle and the remote web sites that need to be accessed.

Did you upgrade your Discoverer installation after installing it as part of Oracle9iDS / 9iAS?
The version that is shipped with the application server is 9.0.2.39
You should upgrade to Discoverer 9.0.2.54.x to get the latest patch, with stability and performance improvements, as well as some bug fixes.
The Discoverer Administrator version used to create the EUL should be the same as the version of Discoverer installed on Oracle9iAS.

Oracle, Null and empty Strings

Currently I'm facing problems with a class, which contains a String, which
is set to "" (empty String).
When the class is persistent, oracle writes null to the table column
(which seems to be common oracle behaviour) and when retrieving the class,
the field is set to null as well, giving me a lot of null-pointer
exceptions.
Anyway ... I can cope with that (just a lot of extra work)
far worse is the problem, wenn searching objects, that have this field set
to "" oder null.
Oracle can't find the records because JDO creates Querys "where
string=null" or "where string=''" , where oracle expects "where string is
null" to find the records.
Is there a workaround or solution ?

Yeah, that would work as well, thx, but since I have to cope with
null-Strings now everywhere in my program, it doesn't hurt just to forbid
empty strings on the program side.
In future times I'll test on Oracle first, then porting to DB/2 - this way
I suppose work is far less to garant compability.
Nevertheless ... having to set the bankcode into quotes is a kodo bug in
my opinion.
Kodo knows the type of classfields (in this case string) and shouldn't
send the parameter as a BigDecimal to the database.
Given that, and having only bankcodes of null (only neccesary when using
Oracle), the method would look like:

which is how a transparent persistent layer, um, should be , um , I mean

As you can see, in the first method I have to set the bankCode into
quotes, when it's not null.
This is because otherwise a filter like "bankCode=1234" will be translated
in a way, where 1234 is send as a BigDecimal to the database:

Select query differences between oracle 9 and oracle 8.

I have a problem using the select query between oracle 7 and oracle 9i I don't have the same result :
ex:
With oracle7

Whenever you are posting anything over internet forums like this - you should be very careful about not just posting the details which requires to solve the problem - also should be sensible about your question.
This is not at all desired when you are posting such question. It may be because - you may not well aware of the fact.
My suggestion is -> First Go through the basics Of SQL in general.
Then go for any specific product like Oracle/ SQL Server/ Sybase etc.
And, finally learn the advanced commands of that DB.
You asked it - may be you thought the difference in output in terms of lines. But, that is not your actual output. That is the graphical display part only.

Oracle 11i is internet based and run with java platform where we can see the applets downloading alongwith oracle forms and it refreshes all the jar files in oracle default directory.
Oracle 11 is not intergrated with Java its an Oracle standalone platform.

I installed the weblogic 10.3.6 (Oracle WebLogic Server 11gR1 (10.3.6) + Coherence + OEPE - Package Installer) in my Microsoft Windows(32-bit JVM) system first.

on windows there are some steps in front of installation and configuration.
1) cleare the Windows Env (Path .. Programme x86 )
no Blank in Path and so on
2) insert into your local host file your server and IP Adress
3) in Windows 32 setup of WLS is JDK included so you don't have to install the jdk in front of WLS
4) verify if you are using the right installation medium (jdk 32 bit, wls 32 bit , fmw 32 bit
in your OraInventory/logs directory is a *.out file for your installation please can you put this file in the forum
is there a nodemanager up and running (if so please stop)
