Oracle bi publisher - simple way to filter data

Hello everyone,
I am reaching out to you again, because all this Oracle documentation is making me feel very stupid.
My simplified scenario is this: I have 1 report on BI Publisher. I have 2 users, userA and userB. What I want is that when userA runs the report sees the data that reference organizationA and when userB runs it sees the data that reference organizationB. I tried with proxy authentication and VPD policy on a database table but to no avail.
Could you please give me some guidelines on this procedure or an alternative?
Thank you in advance.
Petros

For clarification, I assume you are referring to a data source based on Oracle, and the query used therein references a heterogeneous source via a database link. For testing purposes, can the data source defined user access the remote data via a SQL*Plus session? Does the running of the report have to be current as of when run, that is, does the data change that much from report to report? If it is a "data can be updated once a day" scenario, try using a job to populate a working table within the data source user's schema.
Another option is to go straight to the other source. What is it (which RDBMS) and why is Oracle needed in this case?

  • Simple way to insert data from one table

    Hi,
I need to know a simple way on how to transfer the data from one table to another....
    First table xx_inv_tab1 has three columns col1, col2, col3 and where as second table xx_inv_tab2 has five columns col1, col2, col3, col4, col5.
    Here col2, col3, col4 are the same columns as in table1 xx_inv_tab1...
Now I want to transfer first table data in to second table .... first column of second table holds a sequence, followed by the first table three columns data and followed with col4 and col5 which will hold NULL values....
In my scenario, I have 70 - 75 columns in my first table which I want to move to second table which three new columns (one is sequence and other two has null values)...
Any ideas if we make it in a simplest way rather saying insert into xx_inv_tab2 (col1, col2, col3 ............................................. col75) values (seq, col1, col2..........................col75, null, null)
    Help Appreciated..
    Thanks

    Easy
    untested
    insert into xx_inv_tab2 t2 (col1,col2,col3,col4)
    select yourSequence.nextval, t1.col1, t1.col2, t1.col3
    from xx_inv_tab1 t1
;Note that col5 does not need to be used, since you want to fill it with NULL.
USe excel or sql developer to write you a list of column names, if you are to lazy to write all 75 columns by yourself.
    What might also work:
    untested
    insert into xx_inv_tab2 t2
    select yourSequence.nextval, t1.*, null
    from xx_inv_tab1 t1

  • Oracle BI Publisher no columns loaded from data model

    Hello Guys,
I use Oracle BI Publisher 11g. Have created a data model by using
the JDBC thin connection to a 11g database. The creation of the data model
worked fine using a SQL query. Now in the report creation wizard, I select
the "guide me" option to see how nice the wizard is.
The problem comes here, on the second window I should select the columns
but I only read "no columns available". Why is that?

    Hi Metalray
For BIP report sample XML data is importent. with sample data you cannot generate the BIP reports.
Follow the below steps, you can achieve your expected BIP output
After crating data set in the data medel save the data model then click on
--get XML output option on right side of the top-corner.
-- then selet no. for the nuber of rows to return dropdown option,
--then click on Run. Then save the sample data by clicking on Save as sample data option.
--then it will take you to the data model page, now again save the data model
--and use it for creating the reports.
Now you were able to see the available columns in the the second window of guide me option
please mark if it helps you..

  • Oracle Apps Custom Form, How to Filter data in the LOV

Detail Data Block I am Calling One LOV, Based on Master Block Item I want to filter data in the LOV.
    in the select statement
    SELECT * FROM MTL_SYSTEM_ITEMS WHERE
    ORGANIZATION_ID = :BLOCK_NAME.FIELD_NAME
    specified
but it is showing no data found error.

    Do this:
    MESSAGE(:BLOCK_NAME.FIELD_NAME);
    MESSAGE(:BLOCK_NAME.FIELD_NAME);
    SELECT * FROM MTL_SYSTEM_ITEMS WHERE
    ORGANIZATION_ID = :BLOCK_NAME.FIELD_NAME
This will tell you the value of BLOCK_NAME.FIELD_NAME
Then use PLSQL and run the query using the value of BLOCK_NAME.FIELD_NAME
and see if you get data. If you don't get data using PLSQL, then you won't get data using LOV.

  • Is there a simple way to update data in a mobile phone?

I'm in a work on J2ME.This work is to make we Chinese easier to recite English word.If we can see these English words on our mobile screen every now and then, then it would be of great help to us.
The most tough point is that we have to update those words for we cannot put every words, say , in TOFEL ,into our RMS.We cannot simply transmit those words with a USB line for JVM do not support it and it costs a lot with woreless network.
So I make out another seemly demanding plan.I can translate words in a .txt(certainly in some format) to a .class which would have been genenrated from a .java containing RMS otherwise. And then we only have to generate this class from various word lists and make the whole project a .jar file.
What I want to ask is :
Is there a better way to update information(or database) in J2ME?
Can I generate .jar file without JRE in windows? For i don't want to force every green hand be bogged down in setting JRE.
    Thanks!!

  • Filter data from Powerpivot to Excel

    Hi Everyone
Is there a way to filter data from Powerpivot to Excel so that you are only selecting a subset of records to pivot over in Excel?
    Paul

    Hello Paul,
Your requirement isn't quite clear for me, can you explain it more detailed, please?
If you add a PivotTable with PowerPivot as data source, then you can use slicer/filter in the PivotTable to filter a subset of the existing data.

  • How to filter date with time

Hi, with ADF 11.2.0 , i'm having a date column in the table which displays the date and time in the format of "yyyy-MM-dd hh:mm:ss.FF ". But the filter allows me to give only the date and i'm expecting to filter the records at least based the on the given date. But it's not working so. The reason i got in this forum is ,
"The typical af:table setup has it such that the filter for a date column allows you to specify dates, but not times. When the filter queries against the database, *it defaults the date's time component to midnight*. As such only records that match the date at midnight will be returned."
Based on the above statement , i guess no way for my scenario to filter the records based on date. Is there any way to filter data with time stamp. Thanks .

What if you define a transient attribute in your VO that basically uses Trunc(dateField) as its value?
Then show this attribute in the table for filtering.

  • Is there a simple way to retrieve the data from a resultset using JavaBean?

I have a result set from a select * from users where userid = xxx statement. However, at the moment I have had to hard code the remainder of the code to get the data from each column as I need the column name as well as its data.

Is there a simple way to retrieve the data from a result set ?

Well, it is not really simple. But there are Open Source components to simplify it for you. See e.g http://www.must.de/Jacompe.htm - de.must.dataobj.DataObject and its subclasses. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions: [email protected]

    What is your application release?
Does the sort work for other data types?
What if you change "<?sort:DUE_DATE;'ascending';data-type=date?>" to "<?sort:DUE_DATE;'ascending';data-type='date'?>", does it make any difference?

  • Simple way to connect Oracle 11g XE with MS SQL Server 2000

Is there a simple way to access SQL server database/ Tables within from Oracle 11g XE (Windows-32bit) on same machine. I am a novice so kindly keep it simple. Thanks

To connect to a SQL Server you need to use an Oracle product called Database gateway for ODBC which uses a 3rd party ODBC driver to connect to the SQL Server.
The easiest set up is to install DG4ODBC release 11.2 on the SQL Server. How to configure the Database Gateway for ODBC is described in note:
How to Configure DG4ODBC (Oracle Database Gateway for ODBC) on Windows 32bit to Connect to Non-Oracle Databases Post Install          [Document 466225.1]
when you install DG4ODBC on a 32bit Windows operating system and the instructions for a 64bit Widnows operating system can be found in this note:
How to Configure DG4ODBC (Oracle Database Gateway for ODBC) on 64bit Windows Operating Systems to Connect to Non-Oracle Databases Post Install          [Document 1266572.1]
The database gateway for ODBC is available for free from here:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/enterprise-edition/downloads/index.html
Please make sure you select the 32bit or 64bit Windows operating system depending on the platform where you've installed the SQL Server and on which you now install the gateway and download the <win32/64>_11gR2_gateways.zip CD.
Once downloaded, unzip it and install it using the Oracle Universal installer. Make sure you select the product Database Gateway for ODBC (there's also a dedicated SQL server gateway called Database Gateway for MS SQL Server - this gateway is NOT for free and it requires a separate license).
