Oracle Client 10.1.0.2.0 Core Dumps
I have a strange problem where I intermittently receive Oracle client core dumps. I am running version 6 of the WebSphere Message Broker, which communicates with a remote Oracle database. I am using DataDirect to connect to the database and am running the following Oracle versions:
Client: 10.1.0.2.0
Database: 10.1.0.5.0 64 bit
The following is an excerpt from the broker’s .odbc.ini file:
[OTDAWMB]
Driver=/opt/IBM/mqsi/6.0/merant/lib/UKor820.so
Description=DataDirect 5.0 Oracle
EnableDescribeParam=1
OptimizePrepare=1
ServerName=DTHU
WorkArounds=536870912
ProcedureRetResults=1
ColumnSizeAsCharacter=1
Here’s the problem:
We submit batch loads where 50,000 messages are put on a queue. Each message processed by the broker involves multiple database inquiries and insert statements. On average we process 10 messages / second which means we’re constantly hitting the database for over an hour. On occasion, we receive a core dump from the broker which points to an Oracle library. The following is an excerpt from the broker’s abend file:

This can happen at any time and can happen multiple times throughout the load. IBM says it’s a problem with the Oracle client (ILLEGAL INSTRUCTION) and there’s nothing that can be done from their end.
Has anyone run across something similar? Could this be network related?
From dump message, looks like your client are calling whole banch of 32bit library. Are your application server also 64 bit ? Can you try install a 64bit client?
It's also a good idea to patch up your client a bit.
You should also consider submit a SR on metalink.

nullThanks for your input. But having investiagted further I have made progress.
On one of the FAQ docs listed throughout the Linux Forum I found an example of what should be in the pcscfg.cfg file. Once this was in place I then had, /usr/bin/ld cannot find -laio (or the file /usr/lib/libaio.a). To get a clean(ish) compile, I created a symbolic link from libc.a to libaio.a which is crude but was effective. I had a working Pro C exe.
I understand that the second patch solves the libaio.a prob as well as others. But a colleague has installed it and had to regress it, due to more damaging problems he listed but I cannot recall at this time.
Thanks again. -
Webcenter crashing with core dump
Hi All,
Once in a while Webcenter(11.1.1.5) is crashing and generating core dump and the error message is same evertime. We tried to research on addPartialTriggerListeners and found this kind of behaviour is a bug in apache trinidad version 1.2.5-core and is fixed in 1.2.7-core. But the webcenter we are using as version 1.2.12. Also the issue seems to be comming from webcenter/adf framework itself as none of our code uses addPartialTriggerListeners.
Please help us resolve this issue as we are getting this issue in our production environment and we need to fix this asap.

Pro*c program causing core dump in 11g
hello every one,
I am trying to debug a pro*c program which is resulting in a core dump. It used to work fine in with Oracle 10g precompiler but is causing a core dump with 11g. When I run dbx here is what I get.

Any ideas what this means ? Thanks.Hi,
I came across your problem on the Oracle Discussions Forum from back on June of 2009.
I am working with a pro*c program, in Banner 8. I getting the same message from a core dump,, that you got. I was hoping
you might have written down what you did to resolve it.
My pro*c program is key to running all the SQR code we have. So it's very important. The version of sqr that gets
linked into it is 32-bit and our environment is 64-bit. Our contract with Oracle for SQR has lapsed (it's a long
and expensive story and this is probably not the place). My whole migration to Oracle 11 is being held up by this.
I realize it's been a while since you worked on it but if you could tell me how you resolved your problem, I might be
able to do the same.

Weblogic Core Dumps on Solaris with Hotspot Server VM
For Sun Microsystems SPARC with Solaris 2.7 the supported platform is
"SunSoft SDK 1.3.1 JavaTM 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build
1.3.1-b24) Java HotSpotTM Server VM (build 1.3.1-b24, mixed mode)"
We have set the MaxPermSize as specified below and are still receiving
periodic core dumps in a production environment. The most recent of which
is "Unexpected Signal : 11 occurred at PC=0xee4b5d00 Function
name=JVM_CurrentTimeMillis" a reported bug on Sun's bug parade (Bug Id
#4488864). Are there some other settings that we should try? Is there a
more stable VM we should be using like "SunSoft SDK 1.3.0 JavaTM 2 Runtime
Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.3.0) "?
Help would be appreciated,

Problems with JDK 1.3 crashing
If you have problems with OutOfMemory errors and the JVM crashing with JDK
1.3, try setting: -XX:MaxPermSize=128m. There is currently an open bug on
Sun's bug parade that describes this problem. See,
http://developer.java.sun.com/developer/bugParade/bugs/4390238.htmlFYI: Stability seems to have been achieved by setting:
-XX:MaxNewSize=64m
-XX:MaxPermSize=128m

Unfortunately we tried switching to client and we still periodically getthe

I'd be interested to know this as well - so far the only stable option
that I know of is to use client JVM. Server Hotspot crashes, sooner
or later. 1.3.1-b24 server crashes as well, but not the client JVM.

Install and Configure Oracle client in Fedora core 3
Hi guys
I am raghu ,
I need a help regarding Oracle client installation in Fedora core 3
can any one guide where to get oracle client and installation steps
Thanks
RaghuHello.
You could use paper for installation of 9i or 10g database because client is one of options of installer.
http://ivan.kartik.sk/oracle/install_ora9_fedora.html
http://ivan.kartik.sk/oracle/install_ora10gR2_fedora.html
http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/linux/install/index.html
You could also install only instant client (so you don't need download all 3 CDs of Oracle database) and set appropriate enviroment.
You could obtain it from:
http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/oci/instantclient/instantclient.html -
hi,
The OCI method, OCISessionBegin() is throwing an core dump on 10g client in Linux on C++, but the same code works fine for 8i and 9i client. Core dumps for 10g Client. 10g tnsnames.ora file is same as of 9i. I just debeggued with the core and says failing in OCISessionBegin() method. I would like to know is there any problem with Oracle Client v10.2.0.2? or how does i can solve the issue? appriciate a quick help in this regard.
Thanks,
SreeniHave you looked in the Knowledge Base information at metalink? That would be the place to start.
If that does not work then the next step would be to remove this thread and post in the OCI - OCCI forum where there are people that can actually help you. -
Oracle Client(8.0.5) installation on Linux(6.0)
Please Help,
These are the steps followed in the Oracle
client installation of the Linux
version
1. Loaded SQLNET, TCP/IP Adapter and sqlplus from the Oracle CD for Linux.
2. While running SQLPLUS it gave the 'Missing Library file'
3. Added LD_LIBRARY_PATH parameter to .profile, problem solved.
4. While running SQLPLUS a new message 'Segmentation Fault - Core dumped'
started coming.
After analysing it was observed that none of the Linux memory parametre
required for oracle had been tuned. these parameters are :-
shmmax,shmseg, shmmin, shmmni, semmns, semmni
We know the value of these parameters but the problem is that in linux we
are not able to find the Kernel paramater file,
as we do not know the Kernel parameter file name and the location in which
it is situated.
I have done the configuration of Oracle in Sun Solaris successfully and
also modified the Kernel parameter. the following in the sample data
extracted from the /etc/system file present in Sun Solaris.
set shmsys:shminfo_shmmax=208388608
set shmsys:shminfo_shmseg=15
set shmsys:shminfo_shmmin=1
set shmsys:shminfo_shmmni=150
set semsys:seminfo_semmns=250
set semsys:seminfo_semmni=100
What I request is that kindly tell me how and where to update the same in
the Linux for installing Oracle Client(8.0.5) on Linux(6.0).Regards And Thanks
Sanjay Kr. PandeyYou'll have to be prepared to wade through and understand the Linux way of recompiling your kernel. The files can be located using the "find" command. There is some great "HOW-TO"s in the Linux RedHat site.
Tip: Be very careful how you answer the "make config" questions because it can mess up the resulting VMLINUZ object. Also, be sure to place secondary entry in your "lilo.conf" to allow you a graceful way of getting back to the old kernel should the new one fail.
Good Luck! -

Oracle Client 11g R2 in Windows 7 connecting a RAC server
I have the following setup in my laptop
Windows 7
Oracle Client 11g R2
I'm trying to connect "SQL plus" to a load balanced server (RAC) configured as below
Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.4.0 - 64bi
PL/SQL Release 10.2.0.4.0 - Production
CORE 10.2.0.4.0 Production
TNS for HPUX: Version 10.2.0.4.0 - Production
NLSRTL Version 10.2.0.4.0 - Production
The problem is, the connection creation is not consistent. It is throwing the following error randomly.
ORA-12545: Connect failed because target host or object does not exist
I'm able connect to another server (not RAC) without any issues. Even TOAD is giving the same error. After few tries, it works.
Anyone facing the same problem, got any solution???
Thanks

Hi all.
I've done all the checklists suggested but I'm still getting the error. The problem is not with the network and the servers cos I'm working in a Company and when I had Windows XP SP 3 and Oracle Client 10gR2 all was working fine. I'm with Windows 7 Professional 64-bit now. I'm almost sure the problem is with Windows 7 x Oracle Client but it's hard to figure out what's going on. Does anyone have idea what could it be ??I would generate a client side sqlnet trace, then go on a fishing expedition. There's a lot of dense stuff in a full trace, but if you don't panic and just try to make sense of what you can, you'll probably flush it out.
To enable the trace, go to your sqlnet.ora file and add these lines:
TRACE_FILE_CLIENT=clientsqlnet.trc
TRACE_DIRECTORY_CLIENT=C:\app\oracle\product\11.2.0\client_1\network\trace

Error installing Oracle client 10.2 on Redhat5 64bit
I get the following error when I'm trying to run Oracle client 10.2 x86 32bit on a redhat enterprise 5 64 bit. My understanding is that I can install client 32 on a 64 bit server. How can I make this work without getting 64bit client?

Your 64-bit OS will need to be 32-bit compatible, and that is not always guaranteed; Does it support both binaries?
I would strongly recommend that you download the 64-bit Client software; it should work just fine. Do you mind sharing with us why you do not wish to install the 64-bit Client software?

Hi ,
I am getting following crash in 32 bit C++ application built on Linux platform 5.4 with Oracle client version 11.2.0.2.
Program terminated with signal 6, Aborted.

#9 0x0804b716 in main (argc=2, argv=0xffabe244) at crewxa.cc:371From the stack trace, it seems that the crash is occurring at oracle client library libclntsh.so.11.1 . When looked at Metalink, there is a note Pro*c Application Cores On 11g Client [ID 1410089.1], which says that Pro *C application consistently produces core dumps with above stack trace in Oracle client 11.2.0.2 .
Such traces are resulting from the function “sqlnst ()”. But in this case, the stack is called from the main function of our application.
Please advice.Thanks again, Phil.
It seems to be some specific situation, since I could get to install the same version (Client 11.2.0.1 32 bits) in a Windows Vista 64 bits.
I still hope somebody has an answer.
Best regards! -
How to find version and arch of Oracle client installed
Hi all
I have sles 10 sp2 x86_64 on which oracle client 10.2 is installed. this installation was not done by me!
so i dont know what version/architecture (32/64 bit) mode of the oracle client is installed on the client.
from sqlplus -V i get only the version which is installed and not whether it is 32 or 64 bit. how can i find that out.
sqlplus -V
SQL*Plus: Release 10.2.0.1.0 - Production
with a bit of googling i found only the below link which says 10g client 32-bit cannot be installed on a 64 bit system.
i read this Installing 32-bit RDBMS Client software on x86_64 Linux. [ID 1075717.1]
Installing 32-bit RDBMS Client software on x86_64 Linux.
The only release of 32-bit RDBMS Client software that will properly install on an x86_64 Linux OS system is 11gR2 (aka 11.2.0.x)
* 9iR2 (aka 9.2.0.x) 32-bit RDBMS Client software will NOT install on any x86_64 Linux OS system.
* 10gR1 (aka 10.1.0.x) 32-bit RDBMS Client software will NOT install on any x86_64 Linux OS system.
* 10gR2 (aka 10.2.0.x) 32-bit RDBMS Client software will NOT install on any x86_64 Linux OS system.
* 11gR1 (aka 11.1.0.x) 32-bit RDBMS Client software will NOT install on any x86_64 Linux OS system.
The answer to "why", is that the 11gR2 Client software is the first version that includes syntax so that a 32-bit object is linked.can someone please throw more light on this?If you have "64bit" string in V$VERSION it means Oracle 64bit is running.
