ORACLE Client Installation(ODBC Driver) 8.1.6

I've been having some difficulty installing Oracle 8.1.6 client on Windows NT4 SP5 machines. The installations would go successful all the way 100% then exits!!! All the appropriate files are copied to their directories and I am able to launch Net8Asst. But if I look at the ODBC Settings-->Drivers, there is no listing of the Oracle Driver. Please help. I've looked at the ODBC.ini and the oracle driver is not listed their either nor in the registry. I've uninstalled/reinstalled/uninstall/reinistalled numerous times and still get the same result. If anyone has come across this please help.
I am setting my $ORACLE_HOME to OraHome8i
then set my destination to D:\oracle
i've tried other $ORACLE_HOME and Destinations but still get the same results.
THanks
-Max

We haven't released 8.1.6.2 yet. We should be wrapping up new work on this version and moving into the testing phase shortly.

  • How i install oracle client with ODBC using response file method

    Hi,
I have managed to create a response file using OUI. Currently, I do not know what are the methods which i can install a group of computers using this response file. Any advise
    Thanks in advance.
    Best regards,
    Tony

Presumably, any method that allows you to remotely run code on the group of computers would allow you to do a silent install of the Oracle client and ODBC driver. I know Microsoft and various third parties sell such tools, but I'm not enough of a Windows admin to know anything about the relative benefits of the products in this category.

  • Incorrect version of oracle server or odbc driver

    Hi friends,
I am using oracle database 11g ,i like to connect oracle database with my sage ERP accpac 5.6 , i connect with sage it show me the error "incorrect version of oracle server or odbc driver or odbc driver manager"
    please anyone help me
    Thanks

It appears the problem was that I had J2EE 1.4.2 and actually required J2SDK 1.4.2 i.e. the Standard edition rather than the Enterprise edition. Even though there are exactly the same files in the 'bin' directory in both versions. The installation now works.

  • Oracle in instantclient_11_2 ODBC driver error 14001

    Hi there,
I've tried to set up an Oracle ODBC Instant Client driver and I get this error:
"The setup routines for the Oracle in instantclient_11_2 ODBC driver could not be loaded to system error code 14001
    "Errors found
"Could not load the setup or translator library
    My Configuration is :
    - ESX 5.0
    - Virtual machine Windows 2008 64 bits (created originally under ESX 4.1)
    - VMTools activated
    - Oracle 11gR2 64 bits (11.2.0.1.0)
    - Instant Client: instantclient-basic-nt-11.2.0.2.0.zip + instantclient-odbc-nt-11.2.0.2.0.zip
    Path is :
    C:\Oracle\instantclient\instantclient_11_2;C:\Oracle\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1;C:\Oracle\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\bin;%SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem;%SYSTEMROOT%\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\;%systemroot%\system32\inetsrv;%systemroot%\system32\inetsrv
What can be done to rectify this?

    Hi,
I had exactly the same problem with a comparable system configuration, but with the x86-64 packages (you tried to use the 32bit instant client due to the file names you mentioned).
Somewhere in the depths of the WWW I got the hint that the solution is to use the instant client V 11.2.0.1.0.
So I downloaded the older version and everything worked fine...
Also rememeber to set the TNS_ADMIN environment variable to the path of your "instantclient_11_2" directory and edit a tnsnames.ora file in that directory or else you won't be able to open a connection...
    Good luck and best regards

  • Oracle 9i Lite ODBC driver issues

Does the 9i Lite driver support a concept of username and password when getting a connection?
With the Oracle 8i Personal ODBC driver, we are doing this, and then if we give a query like 'SELECT CASE_ID FROM CASE_AX', it works; but with the Lite driver, it expects the query to be 'SELECT CASE_ID FROM AXAPG2USER.CASE_AX'. Can we somehow avoid giving the schema name when referring to tables? (This is actually not a big problem, but we would still like to know if there is a way.)

Are you logging in as AXAPG2USER? Generally, Oracle assumes that non-qualified table names are in the current user's schema. If you want to expose tables in one user's schema to another user without having to qualify the table name, you'll want to create a synonym in the second user's schema that resolves to the table in the first user's schema.

10.2.0.1 is not supported/certified on Win 2008, so expect issues with the install and/or with using the software.
Why cannot you use a supported version - minimum is 10.2.0.4, which is only available to customers with an Extended Support contract

  • Oracle Client Installation. ODBC "not configurable".

    Hi people.
I need your help to solve a problem in a installation of Oracle XE Client.
I install Oracle XE Client in a Windows XP.
In Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> ODBC
    Later in the flap: Controlers
I don't see the "Oracle in XE" controler.
OK. I look in the directory and exists the sqora32.dll, etc. etc.
Do you know how resolve this?
Oks. That's my problem. Now I tell you what I do trying to solve it.
I find in other forums that I can utilize, the normal 10g client or use Instant Client.
Important question: If I take one of this solutions. Have a cost associated?
How much is the cost for instant client?
How much is the cost for normal 10g client?
The interesting of XE in this phase of my project is that is completly FREE !!!
It give me the opportunity of migrate in a later time to a more sofisticated version of Oracle but at this moment I dont complete my product. ;-)
I will try with this solution but I have intrigue and desire of drive the XE software not patch it.
The documentation is recurrent to a document that doesnt explain nothing about my problem.
I tried to register the dll with the following command:
    regsvr32 C:\XEClient\bin\sqora32.dll
And obtained the following message (followed by other):
Error Cannot Load Resource File sqresus.dll
Do you know how resolve this?
    Best regards

    Hello Stevens,
Thanks for the reply. I have installed 11g r2 64 bit client and I have tried this way too C:\Windows\SysWOW64\odbcad32.exe
Like I said, the (sysWOW64) is for the 32-bit.  You now assert you installed 64-bit, so that is not applicable
but there were no drivers found. I didnot find any odbc folder in oracle client home. Could you please suggest what needs to be done next.
Now we know you installed 11.2 client.  Like I said, the ODBC drivers are NOT installed by default on that version.
And so you need to do as I said in my last post:
do a default installation, then go back and do a 'custom' installation, specifying the same ORACLE_HOME as before, and selecting the ODBC components.

  • Instant client with ODBC driver

Hi, I have problem with the instant client version 10.2 with ODBC driver. I have the instant client base package and ODBC package installed in my computer. the Oracle ODBC driver did appear in the ODBC driver list, when I test the connection with driver, it gives error "Unable to connect, SQLState=08004 [ORACLE] [ODBC] ORA-12154 TNS could not resolve the connect identifier specified" I have another computer which has Oracle 8i client installed and works fine. I copied sqlnet.ora and tnsnames.ora to the instantclient installation folder, same error appears. here is the contents of sqlnet.ora:
    # SQLNET.ORA Network Configuration File: c:\oracle8i\network\admin\sqlnet.ora
    # Generated by Oracle configuration tools.
    SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES= (NTS)
    NAMES.DIRECTORY_PATH= (TNSNAMES)
here is the contents of tnsname.ora:
    # TNSNAMES.ORA Network Configuration File: c:\oracle8i\network\admin\tnsnames.ora
    # Generated by Oracle configuration tools.

I test the host connection with telnet, it works.
can anybody out there walk me through how to set up instant client?
    thanks.

Thanks Sanjay - I had this problem and your suggestion fixed it: setting the TNS_ADMIN did the trick.
Note: This was on a development PC which already had the Oracle Client drivers installed (so I already had a different TNS_NAMES.ORA in that installation).
It is worth noting that on my target deployment machine which DOESN'T have the Oracle Client drivers (just the InstantClient + Instant-ODBC) I didn't need to set TNS_ADMIN
    I'm using the 11g InstantClient (11.1.0.6.0 32 bit)
Hope this helps someone, and thanks again Sanjay for posting :o)

  • Oracle Client installs with validated rpms

    Hello,
I'm new to the Oracle on Linux world (OL6), so hoping someone could point me in the right direction.
I'm needing to set up some Oracle clients (11.2) on middle tier/application servers
Looking around for a simple/repeatable way of meeting the pre-install requirements and was considering using the "validated" rpms.
The oracle-rdbms-server-11gR2-preinstall rpm i believe is really for a database server setup, so it's doing some group/kernel parameter/package setup that i suspect isn't really required for a client only setup.
Do people use those validated rpms for client only installs?
Might there be a "Oracle Validated Client preinstall" rpm out there?
Should I just script the package installs and user/group creation?
Looking for some real world suggestions on how to make the client requirements/install process quick and easy!
    Thanks
    Steve

Might there be a "Oracle Validated Client preinstall" rpm out there?Nope.

  • ASP connection to Oracle using MS ODBC Driver fails

I have a Win2000 server with ORCL9.2 client and MDAC2.7 and the following code fails (last line gives the error):
    set dbConn = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")
    set rsSeq = server.CreateObject("ADODB.Recordset")
sSql = "Select count(*) From bs_table"
    dbConn.Open "DSN=tp10;UID=aaa;PWD=aaa;"
    The error text is :
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers (0x80004005)
[Microsoft][ODBC driver for Oracle][Oracle]Error while trying to retrieve text for error ORA-01019
This code works fine with Oracle 8i client on the server, I really appreciate if any one can help me out here.
    Thanks

Can you try with the Oracle ODBC driver, rather than the Microsoft ODBC driver for Oracle? Microsoft's driver still uses the old Oracle 7 OCI calls, which are no longer supported on an Oracle 9.2 client.

  • Oracle 8i/9i ODBC driver for ARM-Linux

I may need an ODBC driver for Oracle
for the arm-linux platform in the near
future. Does anyone know if such a thing
exists and where to get it?
    Michael

Oracle doesn't produce such a beast. The main problem in doing so is that Microsoft provides a lot of the infrastructure for ODBC on Windows only. In order to use ODBC on another platform, you have to port that infrastructure, which Oracle isn't likely to do.
You might try Merant or <http://www.unixodbc.com>, both of which provide third-party drivers that might be appropriate for you.

  • Where to download Oracle client installation .exe file

    Hi,
I need to install an Oracle client on a Windows Server 2008 (32-bit), how do I do that?
I want to install Oracle client version 10.2.0.4 (Instant Client Package - Basic: All files required to run OCI, OCCI, and JDBC-OCI applications).
I can't find a .exe installation file, does anyone one know if there is a .exe file available and if so where can I download it? I have just found .jar installation files.

Sorry for hijacking this thread – what would you recommend to run ODP.NET on 2008 R2?

  • How to catch the error code thrown by Oracle client installation?

    Hi everyone,
Recently, I'm writing a bat file to install Oracle 11g client for windows, I know the command line should be below, but how to find the error code it return? like the command line I want to run in Windows, the errorlevel will return 0 if the command line is pass, otherwise it will return no-zero:
oui.exe -silent -waitforcompletion -nowait -force -responseFile ...\response\clientruntime.rsp
BTW, I know I can find the error info under the path ...\Oracle\Inventory\logs, but I think it is better if you can tell me another way to catch the error in command line. I just wish that I can determine whether the Oracle provider installation is pass......
    Thanks
