Oracle data to Excell

I have been using sql*loader to transfer data
from Excell to Oracle8. Now I need to do the reverse. I need to take data from Oracle back to Excell. Coould someone tell me how to do that or at least start me in the right direction ?
Thanks,
Jordi

Thanks Andrew. I was hoping there was a way to save the Oracle data as a text file which I could then load into Access or Excell. I will however try your suggestion.
Thanks !

    Hello,
Thanks for the reply, but still i am not that clear with the answer. U said about ODBC on client site. My company people use ASP.net as front-end and oracle as back-end. They are developing a customizing web-based ERP for a client. Can you please clarify your answer with some proper steps , that would be appreciated. Thanks .If this is just a one time import from the database into Excel, you will need have the Oracle client installed on the computer (will likely require a custom or Full install since Oracle 10g) to set up an ODBC connection. There is an ODBC administrator application in the Control Panel on the computer. Once set up, use the Microsoft Query Tool in Excel to query the database and bring the result back into Excel. Microsoft's website has examples that show how to set up an ODBC connection, and I think that there are examples in Oracle's documentation also.
You can also bring the data into Excel without an ODBC connection if you set up a short macro that connects to the database and then displays the information on screen. I have several blog articles that show examples of Excel macros extracting information from an Oracle database here:

  • Graphic visualization of an oracle data on Excel

    Hi ,
I am using an Excel to display the data from an Oracle database.
I am using several excel sheets in order to display various data from an Oracle database.
For example: sheet one for displaying the oracle users information, sheet two for displaying oracle files information etc.
I am using for e.g, the following query for displaying the data in one of an excel sheet:
    select username, ''''||sid||','||serial#||'''' sid_serial,status,module, OSUSER "Workstations",MACHINE Hostname,PROGRAM,
    to_char(logon_time,'DD/MM/YYYY HH24:MI:SS') "Logon Time"
from v$session where username is not null and status ='ACTIVE'
Following data of the above query is dsplayed on one of an EXCEL Sheet:
    USERNAME SID_SERAIL STATUS DATABASE
    TOM 656.989 ACTIVE TEST
    THOMAS 123.989 ACTIVE TEST
Now I wanted that the above data, only the Uername,Status,Database columns would be displayed as a GRAPHIC-VISUALIZATION.
I wanted that Database Name and the Username and below the USERNAME their Status will be shown on an EXCEL CHART.
I tried to make a chart on EXCEL and I made it,but it did not get the complete information as I wanted.
For making the chart ON EXCEL SHEET, first I highlited the Colum “USERNAME” and at the sametime the column “status” with all the rows, but didn’t get the desired result on an excel chart.
Could someone please give me the suggestion/solution that how to disply the desired information on EXCEL CHART.?
I will appreciate if someone inform me about it.
    Thanks

  • How to extract Oracle data into Excel file?

For a small automation project I have to extract data from a table/
tables and append it to the existing excel file and feed that excel
file to a command that will load data into some other environment. I
am totally new to this. So to get started I wanted to know,
    1) How to extract data from sample table Foo which has columns A,B,C
and append these values as new columns to an existing excel say
    fooresults.csv ?
    2) Can I achieve this in pl/sql script or do I need to write unix or
perl script or some other programing language, please advise?

The "extract data from a table" part is easy, you could do that with VB/ADO, or .NET/ODP.NET. It's then a matter of taking that data and appending it to a spreadsheet that might be the hard part, and how you'd do that exactly is really more of a Microsoft question than an Oracle one.
If you want to be able to do this from the database itself and your database is on Windows, you could use either [.NET Stored Procedures|http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/dotnet/ode/index.html] if you can manipulate the spreadsheet in .net code, or you could also use Oracle's [COM Automation Feature|http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/windows/com_auto/index.html] if you're handy with the COM object model for Excel.
How you'd do that exactly via either .net or com or vb is the crux of the problem and is something you'd need to know before it turns into an Oracle question, but if you already know how to do that and now just need to figure out a way to do that from Oracle, either of the above might help.
    Hope it helps,
    Greg

  • Conversion of racle data to excell

    Hello
I am using developper2000 and I want to export oracle data to excel or in a text format .I am using dde Built ins but every time it gives me error . Can you suggest other method or using the same method what are the procedures to be followed

I don't think there's anything in the Excel Specific VIs for that. However, it sounds like the VB.NET code is simply using the SaveAsXMLData method. If so, you can just do that yourself using ActiveX. If they file is being saved using a specific XML syntax, then that's a different matter.

  • What's the best way to export UTF8 data into Excel?

    Hi,
    Database charterer set is UTF8
         PARAMETER     VALUE
    1     NLS_NCHAR_CHARACTERSET UTF8
    2     NLS_CHARACTERSET     UTF8
My requirement is that I want to export oracle data into excel file by using UTL_FILE oracle supplied package.
But while writing data into excel files it’s looses in UTF8 encoding and writes some garbage data into file.
I am very much sure that while retrieving the data form database it is perfectly encoded with UTF8, but after data is written to the file it eats the UTF encoding resulting into some garbage data.
    e.g.
I am retrieving this filed from database which is UTF8 encoded in DB “Langäcker 55” but when it is written into excel it becomes “Langäcker 55”.
Is Oracle UTL_FILE eating the UTF8 encoding while writing into file? if yes, is there utility which can help me to remain the UTF8 encoding as it is while writing in to excel file? Is there anythingi can do in Oracle to get this done?
    Thanks in advance.
    Thanks,
    Santosh

Until now I have not found anyone who could write real Excel files (MS binary format) in PL/SQL. So I assume that you write your data in strings separated by a character like ; or |, aka CSV.
Try to open your file with 'wb' (write binary) instead of 'w' and then use
    -- write data
    utl_file.put_raw(v_file,utl_raw.cast_to_raw(<your data>));
    --write remaining data
    utl_file.fflush(v_file);
    --close the file
    utl_file.fclose(v_file);Regards

  • Error in CLOB datatype for transfering data from Excel to Oracle database

Am using excel sheet as source and Oracle as target Database.
For all tables the operations works smoothly except for tables containing CLOB datatype.
Initially i have used SQL Developer to transfer some data into excell sheets, now i want to transfer those file's data into another Oracle Database.
What other options do i have?
Is excel not the right tool to transfer CLOB datatypes?

    well,
I couldn't suggest an excel to do it...
You can go from Oracle to Oracle with the PL/SQL IKM. It works fine.
    Does it help you?

Yes it is possible using SQL*LDR, External tables and ORCL Export Utility. Though I didn't try Export Utility to load the external files.
    SQLLdr sysntax:

then use sqlldr command from your OS.

  • Data from Excel to Oracle DB

    Hi,
I can upload data from excel to access having created stored procedure on access.
I do the upload using my vb code.
How can I upload data from excel to oracle db? could i use the same technique as above? only problem is im not sure if that vb code will work with oracle?
has anyone done this before? anyone have example code?
    kindly assist me here
    thanks

The easiest way to do this is to use a Oracle ODBC connection which can be found on OTN. You do not need a stored proc.
After installing Oracle ODBC on the machine where Excel and Access live, do the following.
Note, you already have steps 1, 2 and 3. I list all the steps for others.
    1. Create your MS/Excel workbook
    2. Add data to it.
    3. Save it as "book1.xls".
    4. Open MS/Access
    5. Create new blank database, call it db1.
    6. Then from the file menu, get external data, import, make sure the file type is xls, select book1.xls.
    7. The wizard will walk you through the process of importing you Excel workbook into a new table.
    8. Save
    9. From the file menu select export table.
    10. Select ODBC at the bottom of the "Save as type list".
    11. Then (depending how you set up ODBC) select Machine Data Source.
12 . Select your Oracle ODBC connection and press OK.
You now have taken data from Excel to Access and placed it in the Oracle schema that was named when you setup your Oracle ODBC connection.

This will be especially important if you are new to any of the products as you will likely need documentation and/or product updates in order to ensure the most stable environment possible.
There are a few publicly available documents which may help to get you started. In any case, these are just examples. They may or may not work to your liking. Further, in some cases they may not work at all. Many of the examples online are often outdated and do not function exactly as documented against other versions. Here is one:

    Hi
To make Excel sheets from sqlplus, you can use the markup html tag in sqlplus.
    Here's an example.
    Example
    <code>
    SET LINESIZE 4000
    SET VERIFY OFF
    SET FEEDBACK OFF
    SET PAGESIZE 999
SET MARKUP HTML ON ENTMAP ON SPOOL ON PREFORMAT OFF
    SPOOL c:\test_xls.xls
    SELECT object_type
    , SUBSTR( object_name, 1, 30 ) object
    , created
    , last_ddl_time
    , status
    FROM user_objects
    ORDER BY 1, 2
    SPOOL OFF
SET MARKUP HTML OFF ENTMAP OFF SPOOL OFF PREFORMAT ON
SET LINESIZE 2000 VERIFY ON FEEDBACK ON
    </code>
