Oracle database on ASP model - question

my orale 8i database is running on sun solaris and the whole
front end is an ASP model product.
for every customer we have separate schemas and the same set of
all database objects are there in every schema.
this is going well.
my questions is: instead of putting the same set of pl/sql
procedures & functions into every schemas. Is it possible to have
a centralized procedure & function and whenever invoked, it
should work on the invoked schema's tables.
any ideas would help.
(the reason i'm asking is, it is hard to maintain the version of
the procedures & functions across the schemas)

use AUTHID CURRENT_USER
CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE TEST AUTHID CURRENT_USER
IS
BEGIN
SELECT * FROM MYTABLE;
END TEST;
THIS PACKAGE NEEDS TO COMPILE IN A SCHEMA THAT HAS AL THE UNDERLAYING OBJECTS .
MYTABLE WILL BE USED FROM THE 'CURRENT' SCHEMA.
It is also possible to create 1 schema for all companies using oracle policies (DBMS_RLS)

  • Connecting to an Oracle database using ASP

    Hi
    I am having problems connecting to an Oracle database using ASP. I am trying to do this for a school project the school's database server is running Oracle 9i. The repository is version 6. The web server I have access to only has ASP not ASP.net. What kind of connection string would I need to be able to connect to the database?

    You do need to ensure that the Oracle client and Oracle server are compatible, but that is generally pretty easy to accomplish. Unless you are trying to cross more than one major release (i.e. 9.2 client to a 7.3.4 database), you're pretty safe there.
    You could try downloading and installing the latest 8.1.7.x Oracle ODBC driver from OTN on the machine with the 8.1.7 Oracle client (I believe the last ODBC patchset was 8.1.7.10), but I don't have particular confidence that that will solve the problem. If it doesn't, we can do an ODBC trace to focus in on the issue, but installing a new driver is a much easier process, so that probably ought to be the first step.

    Azure Stream Analytics does not have Boolean type. On input we will convert JSON Boolean value to bigint.
    Here is the list of supported types and conversions:

    You  can fix this erro by changing column type from bit to int in SQL table schema.

  • Connecting to Oracle database from ASP = please help!

    i have tried every kind of combination of connection string to connect to a 9i database from ASP but it does not work!
    I am using XP Professional and have 9i Developer and ODP.NET installed but I want to use OLE DB (Oracle or Microsoft) to access the database. I have a feeling the web page is not seeing the driver. here is my code:
    <% Option Explicit %>
    <HTML>
    <HEAD><TITLE>Oracle Data Access</TITLE></HEAD>
    <BODY>
    <%
    Dim objConnection
    Dim objRecordset
    Set objConnection = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")
    With objConnection
    .ConnectionString = "Provider=MSDAORA;Data Source=obiwan;" & _
    "User ID=user; Password=pass;"
    .Open
    Response.Write "ADO Provider=" & .Provider & "<BR>"
    Set objRecordset = .Execute("SELECT sysdate, user FROM dual")
    End With
    </body>
    </html>

    Try using this connect string:
    Provider=MSDAORA.1;Password=tiger;User ID=scott;Data Source=ORA92;Persist Security Info=True
    substitute your username/password and Data Source here.
    This works on Windows2000 with Microsoft OLEDB provider
    for Oracle.

  • Oracle database Named User License Question

    Oracle database Standard Edition ONE licensing has this requirement:
    Maximum of 2 socket server
    Minimum of 5 user licenses.
    How are these 5 named user licenses calculated ?
    1) Does it depend on how many computers are connecting to the database ?
    2) Can we have application installed on 7 computers, but concurrently only 5 client computers will be connected to the database ?
    3) Are these named user plus licenses floating ?

  • ASP & Clob fields in the Oracle Database 8i

    Hi All,
    This is the first time I am posting a question. We are having a problem interfacing ASP pages with Clob fields int he Oracle Database.
    We are trying to display clob fields in an oracle database from ASP PAge. The ASP Page does a select to a clob field from a table. But we lose the formatting od the data inside the clob field when we display it out using ASP. We display it as a
    single stream of data. But when we display the clob using SQLPLUS we do see the formatted data.
    How can we solve this issue or circumvent it ?
    We are not looking to parse through the clob field in ASP, rather we already have a stored procedure that parses the data for us. The parsed data is then stored in a clob field already formatted the way we need it. The problem occurs when the ASP
    page reads the clob field. The ASP page reads it as one continuos string instead of the formatted data that exists in the clob field.
    I imported the data from Oracle to Access in order to view the raw data. The data is shown formatted properly in Access, so we know our stored procedure is doing what it supposed to do. As far as getting the data to display. The only way to retrieve (as far as I know) a clob field using ASP is by a built in function called GetChunk(). Is there a better method of displaying the formatted data aside from parsing on the client side, using ASP?
    Let me know if anyone has a solution to this problem.

  • Managing/monitoring Oracle Database using WBEM

    Typically an Oracle Database environment is best monitored and managed using the
    Oracle Enterprise Manager.
    But does Oracle allow/support monitoring and management of Oracle databases using open standards like WBEM?
    We are trying to standardize on an open standard like WBEM for monitoring and managing hardware and software and also model those entities using the CIM (Common Information model) and would
    like to monitor Oracle Databases under this model using WBEM.
    I have read about the ability of the Oracle Enterprise manager to manage other third party hardware and software including databases using WBEM Fetchlets.
    Would appreciate any information regarding this topic.

  • Multiple Oracle Databases in a Single Windows Server

    Hi all,
    I have Windows Server System which has oracle database created.
    My question is:-
    How can i create multiple databases on the same server without affecting the first created database & i want to use the both databases at a time?
    Please give the steps to do multiple databases in the same server if possible..
    Thanks in advance,
    Venkatesh J

    Venkateshj wrote:

    Oracle scales by adding more servers to a single physical database. This is called Oracle RAC.
    You want to add more physical databases to a single server - doing the exact opposite of what Oracle offers as a scalable solution.
    Please give the steps to do multiple databases in the same server if possible..No special steps. Run DBCA and create a new database instance. In other words, the exact same steps followed for creating the 1st database on that server.
    Also make sure you fully understand WHAT you are doing and the IMPLICATIONS of that. An Oracle database is not the same as a mySQL or SQL-Server database. An Oracle Schema is a logical database - and compares to what a mySQL/SQL-Server database is.
    And a single Oracle database can contain 1000s of logical databases (schemas). Each with their own dedicated storage, own security, own resource profile, etc.
    Oracle is not mySQL/SQL-Server.
    Understanding the differences is important.

  • Unable to Create Entity Model from existing oracle database

    Hi,
    I am using Visual Studio 2013, .net framework 4.5, entity framework 5.0 and oracle 11g database.
    Issue Description: I need to develop WCF service to exposing the account information which needs to get the data from 20 oracle tables. Trying to create entity model from existing oracle database. first i tried creating just two tables it
    was created but it took more than 30 minutes. then i selected remaining few tables it took more than a days but nothing created just showing spinning the wheel. then i tried with fresh project and selected all the tables but same issue nothing created and
    also there is no error. during this process i checked database query monitoring there is a big sql statement collection tables metadata. i don't know what was wrong the query taking too much time to complete the  process.
    we tried multiple machine and different oracle database all are same issue.
    Sql server database -looks good no issues.
    Any help/tips/ideas welcome to overcome this issue.

    Hi Sakthimp,
    Welcome to MSDN forum.
    Your issue is out of support range of VS General Question forum which mainly discusses the usage of Visual Studio IDE such as
    WPF & SL designer, Visual Studio Guidance Automation Toolkit, Developer Documentation and Help System
    and Visual Studio Editor.
    Because your issue only occurred with oracle database, moreover Oracle developed the Entity Framework for Oracle itself, I suggest that you can consult your issue on Oracle forum/community:
    you will get better solution and support there.

  • Question about Oracle Database 11g: Program with PL/SQL

    Hello,
    I've read that:
    This course is a combination of Oracle Database 11g: PL/SQL Fundamentals and Oracle Database 11g: Develop PL/SQL Program Units courses.
    In order to preparing for this exam, i should read the student guide, so there are 4 pdf files. One is Oracle Database 11g: PL/SQL Fundamentals, and the other 3 are regarding to Oracle Database 11g: Develop PL/SQL Program Units (volume I, II and III). My question is, regarding to this last one (Oracle Database 11g: Develop PL/SQL Program Units), which volume should i read? I saw that volume I has 400+ pages, and the IIIrd ~80.
    Which document should i read? What's the difference between them?
    Thanks!

    Passing the exam and becoming certified are not a matter of simply reading a book or taking a training class. While books and classroom materials as well as in-class training are all important steps in preparing for an exam, experience and research are just as important. I cannot tell you that there are 53 questions on the exam and every single question maps directly back to page 13, paragraph 3 in XX book. However, If you have the classroom material, and you have the list of exam topics, you should be able to find most of the information you need. In some cases, if you are not completely familiar with a specific topic, or you don't feel like the information in the book gives you all the information you need, you may need to do a little additional research. This is all part of preparing for an exam. This process is what makes you successful as a certified professional.
    Your focus seems to be solely on the course materials that you have and what volumes and chapters you should read. I'm trying to give you a different perspective - preparing for an exam is not necessarily about taking one course or reading one book and being ready. You need to review the exam topics and be sure that you are familiar with each topic.

  • Oracle Database 11g: SQL Fundamentals I 1Z0-051 Question

    i bought the OCA Oracle Database 11g: SQL Fundamentals I Exam Guide (Exam 1Z0-051) and i am not sure do i have to read the whole book ! or just go through the exam objectives table ? because the book covers lots of topics that's not in the exam and i am kind of tight on time if any one had the book or used it pls help
    To make it more clear i have a table in the book that shows each exam topic with page number next to it Like this:
    Restricting and Sorting Data
    [ ]      Limit the rows that are retrieved by a query Pg:104
    [ ]      Sort the rows that are retrieved by a query Pg:136
    [ ]      Use ampersand substitution to restrict and sort output at runtime
    Using Single-Row Functions to Customize Output
    [ ]      Describe various types of functions available in SQL Pg:170
    [ ]      Use character, number, and date functions in SELECT statements Pg:177

    Yes indeed. Practice at work (and elsewhere) is the best way to learn and ro reinforce learning.
    However, the more you read, the more you will be exposed to ideas and variations. Eventually you will find that many of the books have errors in various places. You will be winning when you are able to read and identify the errors AND explain why they are errors.
    The way your original question was written implied that you were after the minimum effort to pass an exam. Your last reply implies a different, and better, attitude.
    My suggestion therefore is to concentrate on the actual examples, but as quickly as possible expand to areas of interest. Explore as much as you possibly can, but make it a 'learning exploration' byut asking yourself questions and then investigating what the answer is.
    Also note that in Oracle nearly every answer has an exception. The best of the best know this and try very hard to understand when things go according to plan and when (and why) expections occur.

  • ASP application has problems working with oracle database 8.1.7

    ASP application has problems working with oracle database 8.1.7 through both oracle ODBC driver and Microsoft ODBC driver
    We have an ASP application running on Windows 2000 server, and with 8.1.7 Net8Client and MDAC 2.6 SP1.
    The application worked fine with an Oracle 8.0.5 database.
    After upgrading oracle database to 8.1.7.0.0, our ASP application works fine except when updating the same data record more than once. The application is not saving our updates.
    We tested our application using Oracles ODBC driver v8.1.7.5.0
    and experienced more problems. We had problems just bring up our data entry pages. In either case, we are returned with some 505 errors in our browser, problems with the ASP pages and IIS, the page is not displaying.
    If anyone has some suggestions on how to fix my problem, please advise. Thanks in advance.

    thanks...i saw one article with this approach..but the document did not present the detailed process...do you have one? i am still searching for a good procedure to follow...since it is an old database and focusing/studying old versions like this is a pain in the a**... :(

  • Connecting to an oracle database questions

    <p>Our current solution to connecting to our oracle database uses the following code:</p><p>    ReportClientDocument clientDoc = new ReportClientDocument;</p><p>    java.sql.ResultSet rs =  fetchResultSet(driverName, connectStr, userName, password, <u>query</u>);</p><p>    clientDoc.getDatabaseController().setDataSource(rs, <u>tableName</u>,tableName+"_ResultSet"); </p><p>The code for subreports is very similar, but isn&#39;t necessary for my question. The problem w/ this approach is we have to define the SQL query and the table name in the JSP, which we shouldn&#39;t have to do considering both of these are stored in the report. Any changes to the reports&#39; sql would then require someone to edit the jsp, which is just bad.  </p><p>I have been reading up on the ConnectionInfo and ConnectionInfos classes (nice naming convention btw) and the CrystalReportViewer.setDataBaseLogonInfos() method, and I believe a solution may lie here. The problem is the tutorials on using the ConnectionInfo class assume the database name is stored in the report, and we do not want to assume this. We are developing our reports to be used by our customers, who may name their database whatever they want so long as the tables inside it are what we specify. Because of this assumption, I have yet to find a good explanation of how to use the setAttributes(PropertyBag) method which is the only I have seen to specify the database name (within a connection string). I have examples of it, but nothing that defines the key/value pairs required in the PropertyBag to create a connection to an oracle database. </p><p>Is there some documentation on the key/value pairs needed by the PropertyBag? Also, if there is another (easier) solution I am overlooking then please let me know, thanks.</p><p>-Sam Morehouse</p><p>HBF Group, Inc </p><p> </p>

  • Questions about 1Z0-047 Oracle Database SQL Expert

    I am planning to take this exam and I have several questions:
    1) I am using Steve O'Hearn's 'SQL Certified Expert Exam Guide' book and this states the following about SQL functions:
    "Be sure to review the Oracle Database SQL Language Reference Manual and review the lengthy description of all of the SQL functions before taking the exam"
    In trial tests it seemed that book's information was enough, but how about real exam? Is it necessary to study something in addition to this book information? You can answer regarding other exam objectives as well, if there is something that I should read from some other materials.
    2) The book states that I can add not null constraint to column that has null values, if I specify default value. I tried and cannot, I get error. So the book states it wrongly or do I misunderstand something?
    3) The book states that I cannot drop a NOT NULL constraint, but I can get the job done using: ALTER TABLE table_name MODIFY column_name NULL;
    I tried and I can execute: alter table table_name drop constraint nameofnotnullconstraint;
    4) To use external tables, is only read grant on the directory necessary or also write?
    5) I understood from the book that to flashback table (e.g to before drop) I need to have row movement enabled on the table. But I tried and I can make this flashback operation to table that does not have row movement enabled. How can this be explained!
    Big thanks in advance!

    #1) well, the manual is free; find here the SQL Language Reference - http://www.oracle.com/pls/db112/portal.all_books#index-SQL
    #2 & 3) If you proved it yourself, that settles it!
    #4) Here's a good article about external tables: http://www.oracle-developer.net/display.php?id=512
    I noted this paragraph in it, which might answer your question:
    In addition to the standard read-write Oracle directory that we need for our external table, we also need an additional executable directory object for the preprocessor. This directory defines the location of the executables used by the preprocessor (we will be using gzip below). As far as Oracle is concerned, an executable directory is one that has EXECUTE privileges granted on it (this is an 11g feature specifically to support the preprocessor).
    #5) don't know
