Oracle Database parameter
Hi ,
Setting oracle parameter according to note 1431798.
In this not there is parameter _FIX_CONTROL which is having values which need to be set.
But in my initsid.ora file there is no _FIX_CONTROL parameter .Do i need to set manually?
How to calculate these two parameter weather these value is right or not?
db_cache_size=9097067888
shared_pool_size=9097067888
Any other parameter which is important for performance of database?
Regards
Adil
Hi Adil.
Is very important to get some information to tuning you database. I strong recommend you to collect a EarlyWatchAlert Report and analyse it. After this you can determine the best way to tuning you environment. Changing only theses parameters may be not give you the expected results
Change parameters to gain performance depends on each environment and individually issues and bottlenecks.
If you have experienced a low performance with I/O may be you have to check the File System DB Block, distribution of datafiles an etc.
db_cache_size depends of you available memory.

Changes on Oracle Database Parameter when you increase your WP
Hi,
I need to know what oracle parameter do I need to change when I increase the number of WP.
I know from note 124361, you need to increase the following:
- PROCESS --> #SAP Work processes * 2 + 20
- SESSIONS --> >=PROCESS
My question:
1. Is there any other parameter? what do I miss?
2. What is good number for session. Should it be 1 more or 10 more than the number of PROCESS?
Thanks in advance.Hi,
If you are using oracle 9i then in this case the parameter have following value corresponds to sap workprocess number ( this values is not applied to SAP BW based system)
PROCESSES -> (Total number of SAP WP * 2 ) + 20
SESSIONS -> >= PROCESSES
In case of Oracle 10g
PROCESSES -> (Total number of SAP WP * 2 ) + (J2EE Server processes *
MAX_CONNECTIONS) + PARALLEL_MAX_SERVERS + 40
Where
PROCESSES
- Defines the maximum number of Oracle processes that exist in parallel
- The component relating to ABAP work processes is only relevant in systems with ABAP stacks. The component relating to J2EE server processes is only relevant in systems with Java stacks.
MAX_CONNECTIONS
- indicates the maximum number of connections (also called pool size) of the J2EE system DataSource
PARALLEL_MAX_SERVERS
- Defines the maximum number of parallel query processes
- Based on the number of CPU Cores of the database server
- The number of CPU Cores generally corresponds to the default value for the Oracle parameter CPU_COUNT. Therefore, if you are unsure in individual cases, you can use the value of the parameter CPU_COUNT (for example, in transaction DB26).
- If the database shares the server with other software (for example, SAP central instance, other Oracle instances), only the part of the CPU Cores that is mathematically available to the database should be considered in the calculation (for example, 8 CPU Cores, the SAP central instance and the Oracle database are to share resources 50:50 -> PARALLEL_MAX_SERVERS = 8 * 0.5 * 10 = 40).
Reference Note : 830576 - Parameter recommendations for Oracle 10g
If you are not using JAVA Stack then you can omit the Java stack related parameter.

How to pass a date parameter from report builder query designer to oracle database
i'm using report builder 3.0 connected to oracle database. i'm trying to pass a date parameter in the query with no success, i don't
know the exact syntax. I've tried :
SELECT * FROM igeneral.GCL_CLAIMS where CREATED_BY IN (:CREATED_BY) AND CLAIM_YEAR IN(:UW_YEAR) AND (LOSS_DATE) >To_Date('01/01/2014','mm/dd/yyyy')
it worked perfectly.
However if i try to put a date parameter "From" instead of 01/01/2014 it will not work, a Define Query Parameter popup window appear and error occurred after i fill
the values (usually i shouldnt get this popup i should enter the value when i run the report)
SELECT * FROM igeneral.GCL_CLAIMS where CREATED_BY IN (:CREATED_BY) AND CLAIM_YEAR IN(:UW_YEAR) AND (LOSS_DATE) >To_Date(:From,'mm/dd/yyyy')
appreciate your assistanceHi Gorgo,
According to your description, you have problem when in passing a parameter for running a Oracle Query. Right?
Based on my knowledge, it use "&" as synax for parameter in Oracle, like we use "@" in SQL Server. In this scenario, maybe you can try '01/01/2014' when inputing in "From". We are not sure if there's any limitation for To_Date()
function. For your self-testing, you can try the query in sqlplus/sql delveloper. Since your issue is related to Oracle query, we suggest you post this thread onto Oracle forum.

Your import database use a multibyte characterset, your export db a singlebyte cs.
This means, a char can need more than 1 byte.
Try this before import (and before create tables!!):
alter system set nls_length_semantics=char;Greetings

Unable to connect to Oracle Database using Oracle Sql developer 2.1.1.64
Hi Everyone,
I am searching for some help regarding my problem with Oracle connectivity. I have installed Oracle 11g release 2 on my Windows XP Professional Laptop. For a few days after installation i could connect to the Oracle database with the SYSTEM account using Oracle SQL developer ( installed on the same Laptop) but now i am unable to do so.It gives me this annoying message:
An error was encountered performing the required operation Got a minus one from read call .Vendor code 0
However i am able to connect using Sql Plus by supplying the username SYSTEM and the corresponding password.
My TNSNAMES .ora file is as follows:

I am new to Oracle and so i need someone in this forum who can help me resolve this problem. Also i even tried connecting to the database using Toad 10.5.0.41. It give me the following error:
ORA 12537 : TNS Connection closed
Thanks for your patience and help in advance.
---PrashantHello Irian and Sue,
I can connect to the Oracle database using SQL Plus. Now when i TNSPING ORACLE from command line i get the following message :

Multibyte issue in Oracle Database Link
Hi Gurus,
Greetings!!!
I need to transfer data from Microsoft SQL Server 2005 to Oracle DAtabase 10g. I achieved it using Heterogeneous Connectivity. I can now issue queries but unfortunately i got an issue in displaying multibyte characters. I thought of using another Tool that can display multibyte data but it did not help. I even tried setting the initialization parameter HS_LANGUAGE to different characterset but still not able to display. Kindly help and advise how to resolve the said issue.
Many Thanks in Advance,
BenjieHi Kamkan,
My oracle database is configured to support multi language character.

Memory issue in oracle database 11g ...
Hi All,
I have installed oracle11gR2 on Linux (CentOS 5.5)... SErver has good amount of HDD - 669G and 16G RAM. I have two database running on this server.
I am getting out of memory error and end user also complains about dB is very slow... I have configured memory and SGA parameter in both the database and total allocation of memory and SGA maximum size 7.5G. So I assuemd that oracle database used RAM from whatever we configured in memory maximum parameter , in my case I have allocated upto 7.5G but when I run top command I can see almost 16G is in used and only few mbs left...
can anyone suggest me my assumption about memory allcoation to database is correct or not ? or when I allocated memory to database (using memory max parameter) then why top showing all memory in used. This is database server and no other process is running except oracle.
Thanks in advance...Just enable AMM as below and forget the nitty gritties of setting lots of memory parameters ;-D
ALTER SYSTEM SET MEMORY_TARGET=6G SCOPE=SPFILE; --select the amount of memory as per your need -
Dump : Table not found in oracle database
Hi,
I am doing a program regarding analysis of tables belonging to archiving objects.In my program i am calling a RFC function module . 'DB02_ORA_TABLE_INDEX_ANALYSIS . But it is giving the dump for native sql statement .
--- Oracle block size ----------------------------------------------
exec sql.
select value from v$parameter where name like 'db_block_size%'
into :block_size
endexec.
Dump is table not found in database.
Could please let me know what setting i am missing...
Thanks in advance.....
SudhakarHi,
the view V$PARAMETER must be accessed through SAP/Oracle Database Monitor lets you view the active Oracle database parameters and the contents of the init.ora file.
Alternatively, you can use transaction st04. You need to apply SAP Note 706927 before using the database monitor.
Hope this information is help to you.

Connecting to an Oracle database after clicking on a foi
Does anyone know how or have any examples on how to connect to an oracle database after clicking on a 'feature of interest' in MapViewer? I want to be able to click on a 'feature of interest' on the map, and have a list of records from an oracle table displayed using the identified key of the foi. I am able to create the feature of interest, and add the event listener for 'mouse click', but am unsure how to connect to the database at this point. I have been able to connect to the database in a different jsp, but not from here. Thank you.
1. Create a JSP page that does the database query. It should take the foi id as an input parameter.
2. In the foi mouse click listener, display the JSP page in iframe. The iframe can be placed outside the map or inside the info window. The function should do something like this.
function myClickListener(point, foi)
mapview.displayInfoWindow(point, "<iframe id='my_iframe_id' frameborder=0 width=300px height=400px />", 300, 400) ;
var myIframe = document.getElementById("my_iframe_id") ;
myIframe.src = "http://myhost/myjsp?key=" + foi.id ;

Hi Joel,
how about following the advice given by the error message and moving the mentioned files/folder (init<sid>_OFS.ora, AUDIT folder) to a clustered resource disk?
just my 2 pence... -

Regards,
007Yes you need to change as its been showed.
I think during last install you might have given -ignoreprerequists option to ignore these errors.
So its better to change the kernel parameter as shows in output then try again. This will solve your problem. -
