"command not found" means ... there is no such thing.

  • Installing Oracle - /etc/init.d/oracle-xe configure command missing?

I've AMD64 system with Ubuntu 11.04 installed. It's been rough ride for me to install oracle-xe-universal. I've already spent more than 2 days on this. Still unsuccessful.
    1) First I downloaded the packages libaio_0.3.104-1_i386.deb and oracle-xe-universal_10.2.0.1-1.1_i386.deb
    2) Then I ran
sudo apt-get install bc (ran fine)
    sudo dpkg -i --force-architecture libaio_0.3.104-1_i386.deb (ran fine)
sudo dpkg -i --force-architecture oracle-xe-universal_10.2.0.1-1.1_i386.deb (gave me dependency error for libc6 (>= 2.3.2), I modified the control file to remove dependency and rebuilt the package) (now worked fine)
Oracle xe is now installed. Then I tried to start the DB it started but it's HTTP client never started. So I decided to uninstall the oracle-xe=universal. None of the sudo apt-get remove oracle-xe-universal command's didn't worked for me. So i went for manual uninstallation directions as per oracle link.
    I ran the following command-
    Manually uninstalling Oracle 10g
    sudo rm -rf /usr/lib/oracle /etc/oratab /etc/init.d/oracle-xe /etc/sysconfig/oracle-xe /usr/share/doc/oracle_xe /usr/share/doc/oracle_xe_client
Then I again ran the following command to install oracle-xe
    sudo dpkg -i --force-architecture oracle-xe-universal_10.2.0.1-1.0_i386.deb
See below what I got as the output-
    rocky@ubuntu:~/git/mygit/edas2/libaio$ sudo dpkg -i --force-architecture oracle-xe-universal_10.2.0.1-1.1_i386.deb
dpkg: warning: overriding problem because --force enabled:

    sudo: /etc/init.d/oracle-xe: command not found

Even in applications menu I don't see the if oracle has been installed.
So i conclude first time installation was ok but somehow http client didn't worked.
After manual uninstallation, second installation didn't even loaded/installed the oracle-xe in init.d directory.
    Please help here.

Any reason you are not using a supported OS?
And any reason you are running two threads on the same problem? /etc/init.d/oracle-xe is missing?

  • Oracle Dataguard configuration

    RDBMS:oracle 10g
    OS: Windows 2003 server
I have one db server and one standby server.I want to user Dataguard for centralized monitoring.I have another(3rd server) for DataGuard .When I make configuration It connects to server and make configuration successfully.
In this scenario configuration exist on Server (main DB) with which I connect.I want to store configuration on my third server,so that in case of failure I may use it.
How can I configure my third server to store configurations for my Db server and standby server?

If I understand your question, and I may not, the third server is meaningless ... there is no configuration to store anywhere beyond using good backup practices and RMAN.
If you want something to help you manage the configuration look up DGMGRL in the docs.

configurations should be made in the primary or standby to make sure the replication can work as the first nic is connected to receive the general database
data and the second nic is being planned for replication only.
so how standby will come to know that it has to pick which one of then.

    thanks for the reply
does that mean nothing is to be needed to configure for oracle standby as such.
can you give me some idea of how this ip routing configuration will be done

  • Oracle 8i Configuration Tools Fails on Install

I found problems on the Oracle 8i Installation, on my Windows XP Desktop (SP1). I've selected the Minimal Installation, and all goes on. When they reach the Configuration Tools Section of Setup...
    It found the following fails:
    - Net8 Configuration Assistant, fail:
    Class not found: Files\Oracle\Ora81\network\jlib
    - Oracle Database Configuration Assistant, fail:
There is no available output for this tool.
Apparently, it doesn't create the Starter Database (my main need). I'm newbie in Oracle Database world (I'm MS-SQL Server DBA), so, if anyone can help me, I'll be glad...
    Thanks,
    Rafael

Please turn on the debug trace in tip.properties
Since we want to see why B2B did not start, we want to have as much trace as possible. Please set the following (in tip.properties)
    b2b.oracle.tip.DiagnosticLevel = DEBUG
    oracle.tip.LogType = text
If there is an exception in also should be logged in /home/oracle/MTProd/opmn/logs/B2B~B2BServer~MTProd.helenab2b.helenachemical.com~1
Please gather as much trace information as possible when you start the B2B Server manually.
If opmn is not started, use the 'opmnctl start' command in $ORACLE_HOME/opmn/bin
Then use the following command to start B2B:
    opmnctl startproc process-type=B2BServer

  • Database upgrade in a Dataguard Configuration - Help !

    Hello Everyone,
I am upgrading our test Oracle 11G RAC/Dataguard Configuration from 11.1.0.6 to patchset 11.1.0.7 and have run into an issue when trying to apply the patchset to one of our standby databases.
I have upgraded our primary database to 11.1.0.7 with no problems, however when this was done the Dataguard Broker configuration was disabled and redo log apply to our standby databases (all physical) was stopped. I next attempted to upgrade one of our standby databases to 11.1.0.7, whilst DG Broker was disabled. The clusterware (all our databases are part of RAC clusters) and DB Software upgrades were OK, but I was unable to run DBUA successfully (or at all) as it wont run against the standby DB.
Looking at the process for applying upgrades with Physical Standby databases in place in the Dataguard Concepts manual, it seems as though the recommended process is that I should have upgraded the standby database(s) first rather than the primary database. The two Oracle Consultants that were on site when I upgraded the primary DB, did not seem to be aware of this !
What now is the easiest (and quickest) way of upgrading the standby db to 11.1.0.7 (preferably without reenabling the DG Broker Configuration). Is it possible to re-instanitate the standby DB from the primary DB?
Any advice would be much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Shaun.

    Hi!
Updating a standby DB must be so easy, but I suppose now you are in troubble because your primary DB is ...0.7 and standby are ...0.6, but in this situaction there isn't any problem. You only need to have same version at Oracle DBs (...0.7) and initiate the recovery process or start DataGuard Broker process (if you have all redo logs since the beggining of update process).
    Chiao!

    Hi Srini,
The issue is resolved. Thanks for your response.
The issue is, windows 2003 server is 32 bit and I am trying to install 64 bit 11g database. I tried installing 32 bit 11g database. Before that I have cleared the traces of virtual box in my host system and reinstalled it and tried. It worked out.
    Thanks
    Sunil

  • "Oracle Database Configuration Assistant" failed

I am attempting to install Oracle Database 11g R1 on CentOS 4.6 (Linux version 2.6.8-67.EL (gcc version 3.4.6 20060404 (Red Hat 3.4.6-9)).
The failure occurs after the message : "Oracle Net Configuration Assistant" succeeded
This message is in the log /u01/app/oraInventory/logs/InstallActions2008-07-07_09-22-20PM.log, and states:
    Command = oracle.assistants.server.DbcaCfgPlugIn has failed
Exception : java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space
The instance instance was running after the failure and I could access it through EM, but after shutdown it cannot be brought up.
Does anyone know what might be done to prevent the heap space error? This was my third attempt at installing. I specified DW type database and also automated backups. I may try one more time booting the system with telinit 3 to free up some memory by not running GUIs, and if that fails I may try eliminating automated backups from the install.
    Any other ideas?
    Thanks,
    akh

FYI, I was able to install without error after the following changes:
-reduced fs.file-max from 6553600 to 65536 (not sure where the extra 00 came from :-) )
-changed type of database from data warehouse to standard/oltp
-unchecked the option for automated backups
Unfortunately, I'm not sure at this point which of the 3 changes made the most difference.

  • Oracle Clusterware Configuration Assistant fails

I am installing clusterware 11.1.0.6 and the runcluvfy commands all came back as passed, except for the VIP, which the documentation says to ignore. The whole install goes to 100%, then it runs the configuration assistants.
It falls over on the first of these: Oracle Configuration Assistant. If I retry it, the same addition is placed in the logfile, as below:
INFO: Starting to execute configuration assistants
