Extract DDL for Partitioned tables in Oracle 8i
Hi
I am currently working on an Oracle 8i database. I have a need to extract the DDL of the existing tables & indexes. Dont need a schema level DDL extract, i just need it for a couple of tables and the corresponding indexes. I am currently using PL/SQL Developer a third party tool which is okay for extracting DDL for Non Partitioned tables, but when it comes to getting the DDL for PARTITIONED tables, it doesnt give me the partition information nor the tablespace information. We dont have a license for Toad or any other tools to get the DDL's. I also dont have the export/import privs on the DB. I need a free ware that can give me the DDL for the existing partitioned tables or atleast a query that I can run against the regular DBA views, which can give me the DDL along with Storage clause, the tablespace, indexes, grants & constraints.
Thanks in Advance

Approval for creating users in an organization
Hi,
We have a requirement where approval is required for creating users in Organisation X. Also, the admin has to fill in a field SSN before approving the request. We have implemented this by changing the approval form. But the admin can still approve by selecting it from the approval list directly (without viewing the form), where he wouldn't be prompted for SSN. Is there any way to avoid this so that admin has to provide SSN before approving?
Thanks,
TeenaHi Jason,
The WebLogic LDAP realm implementations (both -- V1 and V2) have only read access on your LDAP server.
You are recommended to use your LDAP server's own management tools to create groups and users on the LDAP server.

Hi,
I am trying to determine whether or not it is possible to create users in an LDAP
Realm.
The documentation makes it clear that it is not currently possible with LDAPRealm
V2, but it is ambiguous as to whether it can be done with LDAPRealmV1.
My attempts to do this have been met with the following runtime exception:
Servlet failed with Exception
java.lang.UnsupportedOperationException: group modification not supported at weblogic.security.acl.DefaultGroupImpl.addMember(DefaultGroupImpl.java:39)
The method addMember is being called on an implementation of the interface Group.
This Group object is being returned without exceptions from the method getGroup(java.lang.String
name) from an instance of weblogic.security.acl.CachingRealm
The instance of CachingRealm is caching the LDAPRealm V1 pointing at an iPlanet server.
NOTE: I can confirm that the configuration of the LDAP Realm is correct because I
can see the users and groups contained within from the weblogic console.
Can anyone confirm one way or the another, whether LDAPRealmV1 supports the ability
to create users and add them to groups.

API for creating User in Oracle E-Business Suite through BPEL
Hello,
I would like to use a BPEL process to create a new User in Oracle EBS. In the {color:#0000ff}Integration Repository {color}I was able to find an API called FND_USER_PKG/LOAD_ROW that creates/updates Application's User data. Is this the API I should be using? If so, I would like to better understand how to use this API. What are the required input parameter?
I have created a simple BPEL process and added an Oracle Application Service, which uses this FND_USER_PKG/LOAD_ROW API. I set the following parameter before Invoking the Oracle Application Service: X_USER_NAME, X_ENCRYPTED_USER_PASSWORD and X_START_DATE. When I run the BPEL process I get the following error. I suspect that I am not passing all the required input parameters. Does anyone have any sample data I can use to get this API to load correctly? If I am using the wrong API, please let me know.
Thank you kindly!
Christine

Limit for creating users in oracle 9i/10g database
what is limit of users to be created to connect to the database?
is there any limit?
my database size is 10gb.It depends on what type of license you have
Processor perpetual or Named user license....
If it processor perpetual then it is unlimited and if it named user then you can create users based on How many user licens you have purchased

when I click on a package body - I get "loading ..." below it but it never puts the
procedure names in and the "loading ..."message stays in the tree view - however you do get to see the packages in the source window.
Realise this is very much a work in progress and am grateful to see an early release such as this. Looking forward to the production release.
Best regards,
David.OK thanks for looking ....you've obviously got the fixes on your to do lists
Noticed that the SQL tab when you select an object works fine - displays the
DDL for the object
Do you think you'll have functionality so you can select many objects (shift left click) and
then create a DDL script for them? It looks like you can do this for all objects in a schema but
the ability to select a subset of objects in a schema would be very useful for our DBA's.
Couldn't see any good reason for keeping using SQLNavigator
Many congratulations on producing such a useful tool.
Kind regards,
David. -
SQL*Developer 2.1 - Not Generating DDL for Different Users
Using SQL*Developer Version 2.1.0.63 I get an error trying to generate DDL from another user, that has access to many other schemas. It looks to me like Sql Developer is calling the DBMS_METADATA package from within other PL/SQL.
I am receiving the following error:
ORA-31603: object "ACCOUNT_TYPE_LKP" of type TABLE not found in schema "POR_OWN"
ORA-06512: at "SYS.DBMS_SYS_ERROR", line 105
ORA-06512: at "SYS.DBMS_METADATA", line 3241
ORA-06512: at "SYS.DBMS_METADATA", line 4812
ORA-06512: at line 1
I would receive these same errors in SQL Developer 1.5, but the DDL would still generated. It was picking something up, even though it had an error.
Our DBA has not been able to provided a work around. He says you have to login directly as the owner of the objects to use dbms_metdata in this fashion.
Is there any work around for this? I really need to be able to get DDL and I do not want to go back to 1.5 (I like the other new features of 2.1).
Thanks,
TomWe have several users currently using SQL Navigator and/or TOAD. We would like them to switch to SQL developer, but part of their job is to view the source of views in another schema. They have select privileges on the underlying tables and are able to see the source using other tools. Using SQL Developer, they receive on ORA-31603 because it's calling dbms_meta. Note ID 1185443.1 describes the issue and suggests granting the users the SELECT_CATALOG_ROLE.
We are hesitant about granting this role to these users which allows access to ever 1,700 objects, plus execute privileges to 4 objects.
Support indicated that Enhancement Request 8498115 addresses this issue.
Is this something that may be addressed in the next release?
Thanks,

Edited by: Dhinakaran Jeyachandran on Feb 1, 2008 12:35 PMIn the User Administration section of your portal find your newly created user and below select "Assigned Roles" tab then press <Modify> button and look through available roles on portal then just simply add and save. But if you want to do it programmatically see below:
IUserAcountFactory userFactory = UMFactory.getUserAccountFactory();
// IUser - read only but with IUserAccount is possible to set up user data
IUserAccountSearchFilter userFilter = userFactory.getUserAccountSearchFilter();
userFilter.setLogonUid("superuser", ISearchAttribute.LIKE_OPERATOR, false);
ISearchResult sr = userFactory.search(userFilter);
for (final Iterator i = new PrincipalIterator(sr); i.hasNext();) {
IUserAccount user = (IUserAccount) i.next();
Execute the same search for IRole (or IGroup if needed) get the unique id of them and use newRole(...) and addUserToRole(...) methods from IRoleFactory.
Of course you don't need search for this principals if you know uniqueness of them. Use appropriate factories to get'em all by this unique id.
All the features see in [javadocs|http://help.sap.com/javadocs/NW04S/current/se/index.html] -

Using dbms_metadata to get ddl for creating directories
Hi,
I am working on creating a test database, which is a copy of production for 11g upgrade testing. I want to get all the ddls from my production databse to create all the directories in the new test database. I have been trying to use dbms_metadata for this -
Below is the code that I have been trying to use. However, when I query the my_metadata table, there is nothing in there. Can someone please help me with this?

DBMS_METADATA.set_filter (hndl, 'INCLUDE_PATH_EXPR', '=''DIRECTORY'''); --Filter data as appropriate
th := DBMS_METADATA.add_transform (hndl, 'DDL'); --Get the Transform Handle

I can't see the bit where you actually try to execute the procedure - I assume you are doing this.
One killer feature of your code is the "when others then null" - you're not going to know where and why your code failed.
Taking a guess: are you running this as SYS ? If not then it's possible that you're not finding any data because of some feature in the way that the code sees the directory objects - they're always owned by SYS.
Although your code (when corrected) will generate the grants on the directories, the following is sufficient to generate the "create directory" statements. (Since all directories are owned by SYS it's actually an error to reference an owner in this query -- that means, by the way, that the answer you've marked as correct doesn't actually work).
select
dbms_metadata.get_ddl('DIRECTORY',directory_name)
from
dba_directories

I used this script to extract the DDL of a materialized view
select dbms_metadata.get_ddl('TABLE','PTC.NUM_CALL_MV') FROM DUAL;
I am getting the error below
object "PTC.NUM_CALL_MV" of type TABLE not found in schema "SYSTEM"
Where i am wrong?
Thankxdbms_metadata.get_ddl('TABLE','PTC.NUM_CALL_MV') FROM
DUAL;Actually the problem is that get_ddl has argument schema. So if you want from another schema you supply it as third argument not <schema>.<object_name>
BTW MVs have their according tables as well so works both of them:
SQL> select dbms_metadata.get_ddl('TABLE', 'TEST_CNT') from dual;
DBMS_METADATA.GET_DDL('TABLE','TEST_CNT')

SQL> select dbms_metadata.get_ddl('MATERIALIZED_VIEW', 'TEST_CNT') from dual;

GUI data extraction tool for business users
Hi,
I am looking for recommendations for a business user tool to easily extract data from an Oracle database. Our requirements are:
- a user-friendly GUI point-and-click tool that will allow users to select columns, aggregations and filters and will automatically generate the SQL and retrieve a result set.
- will support free-form SQL as an alternative.
- can be hosted as a web application so that desktop install of software not required.
- supports unicode character sets.
- allows export of result set to Excel.
- the ability to save and/or share queries would be nice.
If you're familiar with Hummingbird's BI Query, something similar to this might do the trick. Graphs and charts are not required, we just need data retrieval.
Many thanks for your help,
PeterHi Peter,
- a user-friendly GUI point-and-click toolCrystal Reports (Business Objects), is very popular:

- allows export of result set to Excel.Check out Excel-DB:
