Oracle directory at remote unix server

Hi,
We have created a oracle directory which is pointing to the remote unix server. The unix admin the path is mounted ( i donot understand much about mounting).
The problem is the directory is visible in the all_directory view but it says when “the directory is not valid” when we try to write to this directory.

When you create a directory object oracle doesn't do any validation until the point you try to access that directory object. So please try checking from the $ prompt whether you are able to access that directory. If so then verify the owner of the listener process has access to the directory.

  • Need to access/connect Remote Unix server from Java

    Please any one give me a direct solution for connecting a remote Unix server through telnet connection from java application. Thanks in advance..

    The highlighted "root" is entered by the user manually using keyboard.
    Expected:
    I mean the username, password and some action is set to be automatic, so that it should not ask the user to enter the input from keyboard.

  • Solution: View distorted logon page from remote unix server.

    This problem is a bloody f*cking headache which I spent days searching this and other forums for a solution trying this and that ... f*cktype problem. I just thought writing this so that somebody out there having same problem can benefit from this.
    This is the solution if you have problem trying to use another unix ws or server to do startconsole but you get distorted image at the logon page or you cannot type any entry in the fields to logon to server.
    The symptoms are: at the ias console located in the datacenter I can logon, but remotely on my ultra1 I cannot even when all the access permissions and IP addresses for remote administration have been specified.
    For my setup I have a couple of ias server at remote which I tried to manage using a small ultra1 ws which I only installed the "base" admin tool namely startconsole.
    Initially I tried doing "xhost +" on the ultra1 then telnet to the ias server at remote and 'export DISPLAY' that didn't work as somehow the java didn't display up properly. So thats why in the end I installed the tool for startconsole.
    Firstly when trying to logon to remote server ensure the correct administration url of the remote ldap, this can be found under < */iplanet/ias6/admin-serv/config/adm.conf >
    check for the "ldaphost : "
    Then ensure that this entry is stored in your dns or remote server /etc/host file.
    Solution:
    The reason why I saw distorted image logon during "startconsole" was because of some missing files on my ultra1 under <*/iplanet/ias6/java/jars/ias60*> somehow during installation on the ultra1 those files were missing as part of the installation. I copied those files from remote ias servers and put them in the ultra1 and everything came up properly.
    ==================================
    some troubleshooting steps which I used.
    ==================================
    startconsole -D # debug mode
    truss startconsole # more debug
    startconsole -x nologo # starts console with the iplanet logo.
    startconsole -x nologo -u "cn=Directory Manager" -w <password>
    testing logon password at remote ias server using ldapsearch(can help narrow down if passwords are having problems or not)

    ldapseatch -D "cn=Directory Manager" -w <password> -b o=netscaperoot cn=admin-serv-<host>

    Executing a process is relatively simple. However doing this on a remot system is another matter.

  • Reading an EXCEL file from Oracle PL/SQL (HP-Unix server)

    Hi,
    I have the following requirement:
    1. Get the EXCEL file from the remote FTP location
    2. Read the EXCEL file and convert it into the CSV file format.
    3. Put the CSV file into another FTP location.
    I need to get all these points done using Oracle PL/SQL procedure.
    I am using the Oracle 9i installed in HP-Unix environment.
    Please help me in getting this done.
    Thanks

    Ok, setting up Excel as an External Database connection....
    1- Go to Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Data Sources (ODBC)>System DSN and create a data source with appropriate driver. Name it EXCL.
    2- In %ORACLE_HOME%\Network\Admin\Tnsnames.ora fie add entry:
    EXCL =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 10.12.0.24)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SID = EXCL)
    (HS = OK)
    Here SID is the name of data source that you have just created.
    3- In %ORACLE_HOME%\Network\Admin\Listener.ora file add:
    (SID_DESC =
    (PROGRAM = hsodbc)
    (SID_NAME = <hs_sid>)
    (ORACLE_HOME = <oracle home>)
    under SID_LIST_LISTENER like:
    SID_LIST_LISTENER =
    (SID_LIST =
    (SID_DESC =
    (SID_NAME = PLSExtProc)
    (ORACLE_HOME = d:\ORA9DB)
    (PROGRAM = extproc)
    (SID_DESC =
    (GLOBAL_DBNAME = ORA9DB)
    (ORACLE_HOME = d:\ORA9DB)
    (SID_NAME = ORA9DB)
    (SID_DESC =
    (PROGRAM = hsodbc)
    (SID_NAME = EXCL)
    (ORACLE_HOME = D:\ora9db)
    Dont forget to reload the listener
    c:\> lsnrctl reload
    4- In %ORACLE_HOME%\hs\admin create init<HS_SID>.ora. For our sid EXCL we create file initexcl.ora.
    In this file set following two parameters:
    HS_FDS_CONNECT_INFO = excl
    HS_FDS_TRACE_LEVEL = 0
    5- Now connect to Oracle database and create database link with following command:
    SQL> CREATE DATABASE LINK excl
    2 USING 'excl'
    3 /
    Database link created.
    Now you can perform query against this database like you would for any remote database.
    SQL> SELECT table_name FROM all_tables@excl;
    TABLE_NAME
    DEPT
    EMP
    But you're limited to Windows based servers for this.
    As for converting Excel to CSV and doing it yourself. I hope you know the internal format of MS Excel files cos you're gonna need to know it. It would be far easier if the "user" creating the Excel file could save a copy out in CSV format for you and then it's just a case of FTP'ing the file and using external tables to read the data.

  • Need to create file in unix (oracle directory path)

    Is it possible to create a file in oracle directory path (in unix folder).
    I am using a dynamic procedure to create the External Tables, when the given pattern file is present the procedure will create the External table, if the file is not present then it should create an empty file so that the corresponding External table would return zero(0) records. It should not fail.
    It has to be through plsql not using unix script.
    UTL_FILE.FGETATTR(V_DIR_NAME, V_FILE_NAME, V_EXISTS, V_FILE_LENGTH, V_BLOCKSIZE);
    IF v_exists=FALSE THEN
    --------create an empty file
    v_file_name:=empty_file;

  • Hello, How do I tell sql+ to spool output file from windows to Unix server?

    Hello, How do I tell sql+ to spool output file from windows to Unix server?
    I am new to SQL+ and just learned how to spool the file. But file is saved in my local windows enviroment and since it's 2GB in size...I want to spool it directly to another remote unix server.
    Pls answer in detail... I have been to most of the thread and didn't see relevant answer to above question.
    Am I suppose to develope some script which FTP the spool file directly to the server I want to
    or
    i Have to use UTL_FILE Package ?
    Thanks for reply

    You may not be able to...
    SQL*Plus can only spool to the local machine. If you have mapped a directory on the Unix server from your Windows machine, you can specify that directory in your SPOOL command.
    You could telnet to the Unix server, run SQL*Plus there, and spool the file to a local (Unix) directory.
    If the Unix server is also the Oracle database server, you could use the UTL_FILE package rather than using SQL*Plus to spool a file.
    If the Unix server is also an FTP server, you could also FTP the file from your local machine to the server.
    Of course, I would tend to re-examine a requirement to regularly generate a 2 GB text file. It seems likely that there is a better way...

  • Java application -  processing files on different unix server

    Hi,
    I was wondering if it is possible to
    a) read a file that is on a different unix server to the one that my java application is on
    b) move a file from one directory on the remote unix server to another directory on the remote unix server
    Regards,
    sabretooth

    for (b):
    If I were you I would set up a FTP account for your app on the remote unix server. Then I would get my hands on a simple ftp framework
    and simply:
    Ftp ftp = new Ftp("UNIXHostIP", username, password);
    ftp.connect();
    ftp.moveRemoteFile("form here","to here");
    ftp.disconnect();
    some frameworks:
    JScape, iNet Factory: com.jscape.inet.ftp.Ftp
    /n software, IP*Works: ipworks.Ftp
    Enterprise Distributed Technologies, Java FTP Client Library: com.enterprisedt.net.ftp.FTPClient
    IBM alphaWorks, FTP Bean Suite: com.ibm.network.ftp.protocol.FTPProtocol
    SourceForge, JFtp: net.sf.jftp.net.FtpConnection
    The Jakarta Project, Jakarta Commons/Net: org.apache.commons.net.ftp.FTPClient
    JavaShop JNetBeans: jshop.jnet.FTPClient
    Sun, JDK: sun.net.ftp.FtpClient

    Bea Petrovicova, jFTP: cz.dhl.ftp.Ftp
    The Globus Project, Java CoG Kit: org.globus.io.ftp.FTPClient
    I recomend JScape's INetFactory (Easy to use)
    OR the one from Jakarta (Free)

    Firewalls?
    make a folder that is public on the unix server-ie falls outside the firewall if there is one (fire walls might cause problems for you)
    Unless you know the password to get through the Proxy then this should not be a problem.

  • Oracle 11g on Unix server needs to write files (.csv) on Windows server

    Hi,
    Currently we are using Oracle 10g which is installed on a Unix server and on the same server there is a directory under which some files are being exported/downloaded by the db.
    We are having DEDICATED DB INSTANCE on the SHARED server, and not a DEDICATED SERVER.
    Now we need to migrate from Oracle 10g to 11g, but due to some complaince issue, we have been asked to create those directories on some other server. We have identified a Windows server and can create directories.
    Now I request any expert to pls suggest/guide me that how can the db (on Unix server) export/write files on another Windows server?
    I read in a thread that the server (where files should be exported) should be MOUNTED on the server where db is physically installed.
    Pls help me here.....

    As I wrote in my question that due to compliance issue we have been asked to create the directory (that is currently on the same unix server on which our db is physically installed) in any other server (no matter unix or windows).And if that remote server is not available? Or if network connectivity to the remote server fails? Or if there is severe network congestion between the Oracle server and remote server? What then?
    How is the process on the local server suppose to deal with errors when it attempts to create a CSV file on the remote server? Or deal with network bottlenecks that results in severe performance degradation when trying to create a CSV file? Or if there lacks freespace for creating the CSV file?
    What about security? How is the local Oracle server to authenticate itself with the remote server? How is the remote server to protect that directory share against unauthorised access?
    How is this remote server going to provide access to authorised s/w to these CSV files?
    Who (local or remote processes) is going to manage this directory share and ensure old CSV files are deleted and that there is sufficient freespace for new CSV files?
    There are a LOT of questions that need to be asked... BEFORE deciding on HOW technically to do it. As the technical decision will be based on the functional requirements and how to best meet these.
    Technically - there is Samba, NFS, FTP, SFTP, SCP, RDIST and a number of other methods that can be used. But without asking the above questions and getting proper business answers, selecting a specific technical method is very much premature.
    You are asking the wrong questions, and in the wrong forum. You need to determine the business requirements first.

  • How to write a file in unix server through oracle plsql code

    Hi All,
    My requirement is to create and write a file (any file for eg txt file) in unix box with in a specified directory through oracle plsql code.
    Oracle sits in windows server.
    using utl_file package we can create directory where oracle resides and write it there in oracle server in our case windows..
    But here we need to create,write a file but in unix server which is different server than where the oracle server resides..
    we are using Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.2.0 - 64bit Production
    PL/SQL Release 11.2.0.2.0 - Production
    Can any one one please help me out in this issue...
    Thanks in Advance.

    Mr Prakash,
    Why are you asking this question multiple times in every forum you can spell?
    Valid responses have been presented to you already two times.
    Can you explain why you can't follow them up, but continue to abuse this forum by repeating doc questions?

    when you want to connect from Oracle to a SQl Server you need the Oracle Gateway (HSODBC or even better Dg4ODBC) and a FOREIGN ODBC DRIVER for your foreign database - a SQL Server ODBC driver. You have to get this driver from a 3rd party vendor - Oracle does not offer any foreign ODBC drivers.
    So before being able to use DG4ODBC/HSODBC you need to install from a 3rd paryt vendor a SQL Server ODBC driver. Commercial vendrs are for example Data Direct, Openlink or Easysoft.
    On Unix ODBC drivers commonly also require a driver manager. If the ODBC driver vendor does not ship one with the ODBC driver you can get it from www.unixodbc.org
