Oracle Discoverer Desktop Totals

We had 9.0.2.39 desktop client and recently, we applied Upgrade 54 for Oracle Discoverer .
With this version, totals does not seem to work properly.
With 9.0.2.39, we have developed some discoverer reports having columns with TOTALS (tools->Totals->SUM or CELL SUM).
With 9.0.2.54, some of the columns still have the totals , but for most of the columns, we dont get the totals. We tried Cell sum also but in vain.
Any idea why totals are not working with Discoverer 9.0.2.54?

Srilakshmi,
This problem happens if the datatype of the element you are trying to create an aggregate on is defined as a number without any precision. Because of this data structure, the default position of this element is set to Top when the table was imported into the Discoverer Administrator. So, to resolve this problem, change the default position of the attribute to data point in the Discoverer Administrator. This should resolve the problem you are having.
Hope this helps.

  • Oracle Discoverer Desktop Report output showing unicode characters

    Hi,
Oracle Discoverer Desktop 4i version Report output showing the below unicode characters.
    kara¿ah L¿MAK HOLD¿NG A.¿
We ran the same query in sql at that time the data showing correctly.
Please let me know, is there any language settings/ NLS settings are need to set
    Thanks in Advance.

    Hi
Let me give you some background. In the Windows registy, every Oracle Home has a setting called NLS_LANG. This is the variable that controls, among other things, the numeric characters and the language used. The variable is made up of 3 parts. These are:
    language_territory.characterset
Notice how there is an underscore character between the first two variables and a period between the last two. This is very important and must not be changed.
So, for example, most American settings look like this: AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8MSWIN1252
The second variable, the territory, controls the default date, monetary, and numeric formats and must correspond to the name of a country. So if I wanted to use the Greek settings for numeric formatting, editing the NLS_LANG for Discoverer Desktop to this setting will do the trick:
    AMERICAN_GREECE.WE8MSWIN1252
Can you please check your settings? Here's a workflow:
    a) Open up your registry by running Regedit
    b) Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORACLE
    c) Look for the Oracle Home corresponding to where Discoverer Desktop is installed. It's probably called KEY_BIToolsHome_1
    d) Clicking on the Oracle Home will display all of the variables
    e) Take a look at the variable called NLS_LANG - if it is correct Exit the registry
    f) If its not correct please right-click on it and from the pop-up select Modify
    f) Change the variable to the right setting
    g) Click the OK button to save your change
    h) Exit the registry
    Best wishes

  • Oracle Discoverer Desktop truncate at least 10.000 rows

    Hi All,
I want to export to excel file from Oracle Discoverer Desktop. If the file contains more than 10.000 rows, It truncates the output and only shows the first 10.000 rows.
How can I resolve this problem?. I changed that Limit in Oracle Discoverer Viewer, but I don't know where I can do this in Desktop.
    Best Regards,
    Mariano.-

In Desktop, go to the Tools menu, and select Options...
The second tab is for the Query Governor, and you can uncheck (or change) the "Limit Retrieved Data To:" item. This works in Desktop 10.1.2.48.18.

  • Showing Data in Oracle Discoverer Desktop

    Dear ALL,
I am facing an issue in development of Relational reports in Oracle Discoverer Desktop.
Following are the details of my warehouse (Data Mart) database:
There are 2 Dimensions and 1 cube in the Data Mart. All the 2 dimensions and Cube are based on tables Currency, Accounts and Fact_Data respectively in our Data Mart.
Fact table contains 2 facts (CLOSING_BALANCE,MAX_BALANCE) and and the values are stored in USD currency.
The fact table contains 100,000 rows with all values/facts in USD currency.
    Details of EUL(End User Layer):
I have derived all 2 dimensions and cube from OWB, which generates all the "Business Definitions" and "Business Areas".
    Issue:
I need to show the end user a report (from discoverer) which shows all the values/facts in PKR currency.
What is the best way to get this report?
I have tried many methods, including "Creating a Materialized View (MV) on fact table which contains converted values in PKR and then making a view (Union of fact table and MV) which gives me 200,000 rows." But this solution has an issue that i can not join the View with other dimensions in Discoverer because View contains dimension keys (same as fact table) and dimension tables contain Surrogate Ids.
Thanks in advance for your help and suggestions.
    Best Regards

    Hi,
You cannot schedule and email using Discoverer scheduling. You have to use a third party scheduler and Discoverer Desktop. This article (http://ascbi.com/downloads/Third%20Party%20Documents/Scheduling%20through%20Concurrent%20Manager.pdf) may give you some ideas on how you can use third party scheduling with apps. A bit of extra development will also give you emailing of the scheduled output.

  • Oracle Discoverer Desktop 11.1.1.3 11g install

    Windows XP sp3
    Work for a company
    Installed Discoverer Desktop 11g 11.1.1.3
Upon launching application with __end-user Jane__ logged into computer, immediately get this error, 'dis51usr.exe not found, click Browse to locate' .
I installed the program with me logged in to computer (I have admin rights). Discoverer Desktop opens without error when I am logged into the computer. When the EU is logged in, we get the error. I had installed the app on another user's machine, John, and had same error. For user John, I added the user to 'Domain Users' and relaunch app and the error never came up (the app launched and came to the login gui, the app launch is a success. For the user I first mentioned, I added that user to 'Domain Users' but the error still comes up.
I do not know what to check that could be causing this issue.
Is it a path issue? Environmental Variables issue?
I do not have enough experience with oracle to know the proper 'user environmental variable' and the 'system environmental variable'. Please help!! Thank you.

    Hello
Windows will look inside your PATH to see if it can find the file. If it cannot locate the file in your PATH you will get the dis51usr.exe not found error.
Can you post the PATH that is being used?
You can get the path as follows:
    1. Launch Control Panel
    2. Click System
    3. Click Advanced System Settings
    4. Click Environment Variables
    5. Look in bottom half of screen for variable named PATH
    6. Click Edit and copy the PATH then post it in here for me to look at
    7. Click Cancel - do not edit the path
    8. Close Control Panel

  • Oracle Discoverer Desktop has encountered a problem and needs to close

    Hi Everyone,
    Hope all is well,
    For Oracle Desktop users:
    a) do you ever get this msg when you exit Discov?
    b) this pc uses: Windows XP Professional 2002 SP3 - does your pc have same?
I am trying to run Discov. through command line in a .bat file form Microsoft Access VB/A and:
    1) the bat file works if i run it directly from Windows Explorer
    2) the bat file DOES EVOKE Discoverer when executing from VBA, but it fails right before the parameter screen
comes up with a Windows error
    3) bat file evokes the query WITHOUT parms, so that user can enter parms themselves
Rod West gave me an idea, yet trying to see if it's a more basic problem related to pc, Windows, etc.
    tx for your ideas, sandra
Edited by: [email protected] on Jan 14, 2010 8:40 AM

    Hi Patrick.
    Thx for writing...
I must step out for lunch, and detach from this for a little while ....
    a) i can try your idea, and if the idea works, it does not really help me, bec. most of my reports use parms
    b) if i run .bat file directly from Windows explorer by clicking .bat file and then pressing enter , discov. opens fine
    c) if i run .bat file from with Access VB/A using shell(full pathname of .bat), discov. fails right before parm screen comes up
this happens when i am signing in as myself, and executing a query from another sign on called SREG
    as explained below:
this statement works BEAUTIFULLY: (divided into 4 lines for readablity)
    C:\oracle\BIToolsHome_1\bin\dis51usr.exe
    /connect XXX_SignOn/XXX_Password@odsp8
    /opendb XXX_queryName
    /sheet all
From within VBA, i replace the xxx fields with valid signon and password.
    Let's focus on xxx_queryName:
When i save a query in Discoverer, query is save to an INTERNAL database repository
with the user's signin as a preceding qualifier.
so if i sign in as mytfein, the query's name is MYTFEIN.queryname
To create a library of reports, our admin created a general id called SREG and we sign in using
SREG to save a report so that it is public.
    to recap:
If i save query to database using my signin, mytfein
the query's name really is: MYTFEIN.queryName
if i log as SREG and save query to database
the query's name really is: SREG.queryname
now, the shell(.bat) DOES work when the command line uses:
MYTFEIN as the signin AND MYTFEIN as qualifier for query name
    C:\oracle\BIToolsHome_1\bin\dis51usr.exe
    /connect mytfein/mytfein123@odsp
    /opendb mytfein.Advisor_CAD_M3
    /sheet all
the shell(.bat) DOES NOT work when the command line uses:
MYTFEIN as the signin AND SREG as qualifier for query name
I want MYTFEIN-->SREG to work, bec. I want to create an Access form that will allow
the user to evoke queries from our public SREG library.
    C:\oracle\BIToolsHome_1\bin\dis51usr.exe
    /connect mytfein/mytfein123@odsp
    /opendb SREG.Advisor_CAD_M3
    /sheet all

  • Oracle Discoverer Problem - Find Difference of amounts

    Hi ,
I need your help / suggestions on how to achieve the following in Oracle Discoverer.
I am having 2 custom tables, using a UNION in the Discoverer query, showing the report as
    1. sum of amount column from Table A - always 1 row.
    2. sum of amount columns from Table B , but group by a criteria and will be many rows depending on the parameters.
I need to show the difference between the amounts as explained below.
    Eg.
    1st row: Trial Balance for Jun'06 - 100$
    2nd row: For schedule 1 - 10$
    3rd row: For Schedule 2 - 30$
    4th row: For Schedule 3 - 40$
    5th Row: For Schedule 4 - 10$
    ========================================
    Difference - 10$
    ========================================
How do I achieve this in Discoverer. It seems i can do a minus only between two adjacent cells in a single row.
I want the difference between the 1st row and the (sum of all the rest of the rows).
Please help me to achieve this in Oracle Discoverer.
Version: Oracle Discoverer Desktop 10.1.2.48 on Oracle 10G database.
    Any suggestions are highly appreciated.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Kiran Kesari

as you said you are using UNION to retrieve data from two different tables, you can simply convert amount to negative amount in query like
    select sum(amount),'desc' <column-name> from table a
    union
select -sum(amount),abc from table b group by abc
after that you need to create grand total on amount column and you will get what you want. only problem is that amount from second table will display as negative. but you can change number format for negative value so probably it will help you..

  • Discoverer Desktop crash

When trying to open a report created by a colleague, Discoverer immediately throws a Windows (Vista 32Bit) error that "Oracle Discoverer Desktop has stopped working". I click close program, and Discoverer closes. It's a very simple report so I recreated it yesterday, ran it fine, could change parameters for different outputs, no problems. This morning I log in and when trying to open the newly created report from yesterday, same error. No exception, no memory pointers, nothing, just the Win error that it has stopped working.
Anyone seen this before? Running Discoverer Desktop v 10.1.2.3 Client v 10.1.2.55.26.

My colleague was able to open and modify the report that I created without issue so I suspect the report is alright, perhaps my installation? Odd that I can run many other reports just fine in the same environment and that this one ran fine from development, but as soon as I closed it to reopen, no luck.

  • Discoverer Desktop Issues 10.1.2

    Hi,
I am using Discoverer Admin and Desktop both of Verions 10.1.2
I have no issue with Admin; I could do successfully all the work here.
In Desktop i have login successfully as Application user; and created simple Order Report workbook (Order_Report.DIS) and saved it.
Again when i login as application user in desktop; When i try to open my existing workbook (Order_Report.DIS); It will prompt me
Do you want to run the query for the sheet Ord_report; Yes/No; If i select option as Yes i am getting error mesg as Failed to connect to database; If i choose No I will get empty sheet; In either case I will see empty sheet appears; From the Tool Bar if i select Sheet --> Refersh Sheet; I am able to see records in my sheet.
When i continue working on this sheet; All of sudden i get error screen as Oracle Discoverer Desktop has encountered a problem and needs to close
Basically i have two problems in desktop
    1. When I open workbook i get error as Failed to connect to database
    2. All of sudden i get vague error as Oracle Discoverer Desktop has encountered a problem and needs to close
I would appreicate if some one can help on this.

    Hi,
I have the same issue with Discoverer Plus 10g Rel 1 (10.2.0.2 )
Desktop and Administrator are working good. So, I cannot resolve it by re-installation.
Also, this is not reproducible. Sometimes it works very smoothly, but sometimes it gives error for the same report.
    Any idea ?
    Thanks!

  • Discoverer Desktop Report issue

    Hi,
One of my user is facing a format issue while running the report in Oracle Discoverer 10g. The report produces the following out put.
    count(Col A)     Col B     Col C     Col D
    12          A     200709     12-Sep-07
    11          A     200709     21-Sep-07
    24          B     200709     11-Sep-07
    32          B     200709     13-Sep-07
    10          B     200710     15-Oct-07
Col A is of number data type, Col B character, Col C is number and Col D is date
if Col D is removed from the report, the user is getting the result in following format
    count(Col A)     Col B     Col C
    23          A     401418
    56          B     401418
    10          B     200710
i.e. col C displays the sum of the value based in Col B instead of displaying it as 200709.
but when I ran the report from my end I'm getting the result in a proper manner.
    count(Col A)     Col B     Col C
    23          A     200709
    56          B     200709
    10          B     200710
Please help me in sorting out this issue.
    Environment Details:
    Oracle Discoverer Admin 10g(9.0.4)
    Oracle Discoverer Desktop 10g (9.0.4)
    End User Layer 5.0.2
    Thanks in Advance.
    Regards,
    SS

    @Himanshu3jul:
I'm not using any Oracle Application secure views. Also, the data that are being displayed is proper if Col D is not removed. If user removes Col D, the result is getting aggregated based on Col B but for me it is showing in a perfect manner.
    @puppethead:
I'm afraid I may not be able to the check the registry on user machine since user is sitting at a different location.
    @Rod West:
The default Aggregate property for Col C is set to <none> and it is grayed out. I'm not able to change it too. Also, if it is a bug then I should get the result as what user receives but I'm not facing any issues in that report but only user is.
Please let me know what can be done next to figure it out.
Also, I have the screen shots from my machine and from user’s. if you think that it will really help then I can post it. please let me know where and how I can post it so that you can have a look at it.
    Thanks,
    SS
