Oracle EBS Implementation Help

Hello Everyone,
Greetings of the day!!!!
Professionally i am a technical consultant with only 12 months of experience, Now i got chance to enhance my technical knowledge in Oracle EBS Implementation project.
I am totally fresh for this Implemenation as i dont have any idea, what will be the things in implemention. I request to OTN people, please give me some guidelines, as how can i go about it, where i need to concentrate.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

  • Segregation of testing and the production environments- Oracle EBS implementation project

I am currently auditing a oracle EBS implementation and I need to test the segregation of testing and the production environments, How can I approach that ?

In Oracle EBS environments TEST and PRODUCTION are different systems altogether, you can say two entities which are identical in features/data but physically different. So you may have to test on below
1.) DB level passwords (different in both instances) and are following the statndard corporate policies.
2.) Unwanted application users are end-dated in TEST instances.
3.) Data is masked appropriately in TEST instances.

  • Oracle Forms6i Implementation - help needed

I have a table structure like below.
    CREATE TABLE test
    test_seq_no NUMBER,               -- Primary key
    test_case_id VARCHAR2 (15) NOT NULL,
    test_dct_seq_no NUMBER (4),
    test_atyp_code VARCHAR2 (6) NOT NULL,
    test_pid NUMBER (8) NOT NULL,
    test_act_text VARCHAR2 (100),
    test_due_date DATE,
    test_assn_date DATE DEFAULT SYSDATE,
    test_assn_user_id VARCHAR2 (30) DEFAULT USER
TEST_CASE_ID, TEST_DCT_SEQ_NO, TEST_ATYP_CODE and TEST_PID fields are coming from 4 different tables. Users need a screen with two blocks for data entry into this table.
Upper block will have following fields in a tabular format with maximum of 4 records.
    TEST_ATYP_CODE,      TEST_PID,     TEST_PID_DESC,     FREE_TEXT_FIELD,     DUE_DATE
And in 2nd block, they have following in tabular format with 10 records.
    TEST_CASE_ID,      TEST_CASE_DESC,      TEST_DCT_SEQ_NO,     TEST_DCT_SEQ_NO_DESC
They want to assign action type (TEST_ATYP_CODE) to users (TEST_PID) in 1st block and then create multilple CASE entries into 2nd block.
e.g. If they have 2 records entered in assignment block (first block) and 4 records in 2nd block, it should save 2x4 = 8 records into the table.. meaning all
values in each record of 1st block are applied to all records in the 2nd block.
They also want to query on this form and want to re-assign or change the ACTIONS or ASSIGNEES or CASES on multilple records in one go.
How can I do this in Oracle Forms6i?
I am thinking to suggest them to change screen layout to have all table fields in ONE block (since they are from ONE table) and let them set the DEFAULT values in 1st control block which are used for creating 2nd block entries.
Please suggest any ideas for implementation? Like, how many data blocks, control blocks and how to handle query, inserts etc.
    Thanks!

    Thank you for replying.
Well, table structure is normalized and even if i further split the table, it can become master-detail but they don't want to save the details for each master. They want to enter multiple masters and multiple details in one go. e.g. if they entered 2 records in master block and 4 records in details, it should save 2x4 = 8 records at once.
You are right, it can work first time... I can create two blocks. One control block and one DB detail block and for each control record I can save all details and then go to next control record and save all details for it and so on. But how will I keep track if they need to change just one instance of either control or detail.
Another possibility would be that they select a control record for which they want to enter details and let system populate the control values into detail and they enter rest of details. But this will require more data entry to create details for each control record.
    Any ideas are welcome!

  • Oracle EBS R12 implementation scenarios

    Dear All,
We have below 3 different scenarios, please give your comments/suggestions; keep in mind client wants cheeper solution.
HP DL580 G5 servers will be used with 64bit Redhat Linux 5.0 on all scenarios.
    Scenario 1:)
Oracle EBS R-12 implementation with RAC & Load Balancer
    Required H/W - 8 Server (4 Production & 4 UAT / Development), Hardware Load balancer
    Software - RHEL 5.0 OS
    Licenses - Oracle RAC
Advantages – High Availability solution, Redundancy
Disadvantages – Specialized network administrator required for load balancer management, Complex System and costly
    Scenario 2:)
Oracle EBS implementation with Active Passive mode / fail safe
    Required H/W - 8 Server, 4 Production (2 active & 2 passive) & 4 UAT / Development as replica of production environment
Software - RHEL 5.0 OS & Cluster software on OS Level clustering
Licenses – OS Cluster from Red Hat
Advantages – OS Level clustering is cheaper compared to Oracle RAC
Disadvantages – 2 Servers will used as Passive will not be optimally utilized they will only come into play when primary servers fail.
    Scenario 3:)
Oracle EBS implementation Dual tier (DB & APPS)
    Option – I (Active + Active)
Required H/W – 2 Servers for production and 2 UAT / Development as replica of production environment
Software – RHEL 5.0 OS & Cluster software on OS Level clustering
Licenses - OS Cluster from Red Hat
Advantages – All the servers are optimally utilized
Disadvantages -if one of the servers fails you might experience performance issues as both application and database services run on one node till server that failed is brought live.
Option – II (Active / Stand BY)
Required H/W - 2 Servers for production and 2 UAT / Development as replica of production environment, 2 server of UAT will be configured for stand by
    Software – Oracle data guard
    Licenses – oracle data guard
Advantages – Simple configuration and easy to maintain when compared to RAC and OS clustering
    2) Will not experience performance problems when one of the primary fail .This is achieved by shutting down UAT or test instances till the issue on primary server is addressed
Disadvantages - Sudden spike in load cannot be addressed since load balancing feature is not available.
    Best Regards,

Scenario 1:) Oracle EBS R-12 implementation with RAC & Load Balancer
When designing for "High Availability", this is quite a common infrastructure. It is pretty straightforward, though you are right, you need additional skills in managing RAC and Network. On the other hand, most larger companies have load balancers operational already. RAC may be expensive, however, if you want availability, it is what you will have to pay for, if you really cannot afford any downtime. Consider RAC when either of the following will be answered "No"
    1) Can your customer really not afford more (unplanned) downtime than 20 minutes.
    2) Is the maximum size of your hardware (single node database tier) sufficient to handle the amount of concurrent users in peak and will it be able to handle the expected growth for the next 12 months.
If either of the above questions answers no, consider RAC. Otherwise, one of the two alternative scenarios will probably be better.
Scenario 2:) Oracle EBS implementation with Active Passive mode / fail safe
This scenario requires additional skills as well: OS Cluster Administration skills. The main advantage in this situation is that the architecture in which EBS has to operate is quite simple. No clustering (EBS will operate on one db node and one appnode). Issues you might encounter: If dbnode fails, what will your appnode do? Will it have to be restarted? What about downtime in such a case? How much can you afford (see scenario 1). You will end up with some 'dirty' data in your database (concurrent manager). It might be necessary to clean that out first.
Another question to answer is how much do you trust your hardware/os. If it (almost) never failed on you for the past years, why would it be different in this situation. Having an active/passive cluster can be a costly architecture as well (half of your capacity being passive...)
Scenario 3:) Oracle EBS implementation Dual tier (DB & APPS)
    Option – I (Active + Active)
I suspect you mean to establish a cluster that runs database package on node 1 and application package on node 2, each of them having the other node as failover node. In this situation, you will definitely encounter a performance degradation, but this can be managed by oversizing each of the nodes and/or defining a threshold for performance degradation and keeping this in mind when sizing the hardware. You would still need the cluster managing skills, though.
Option – II (Active / Stand BY)
This option will deliver you more High Availability, because this is a truly disaster resilient solution. Dataguard will duplicate the database, taking away the Single Point Of Failure(SPOF), which the database is in all previous scenarios. You should keep in mind though that the UAT environment will be affected by the standby database activity (not very much, but nevertheless). You will need additional skills, like Dataguard administration skills. I could argue about your statement that it will be easy to maintain, compared to RAC. However, like I said in my comments about Scenario 2, the operational architecture for EBS is quite simple in this architecture as well. Consider the implications on the application tier when your database switches/fails over to the standby.
Conclusion: There is no yes/no to each of the proposed scenarios. You will have to discuss with your customer to find out what the requirements are on a business level and translate them to an IT solution.
The solution should meet the needs for which it is realized and the people should be able to manage/maintain the solution. Additionally, the investment should be in line with the solution the customer requires.

  • OBIEE 11G Implemented - Upgrading Oracle EBS 11g to R12

We have OBIEE 11G implemented and are currently sourcing the data from Oracle EBS 11g.  We are upgrading our source database to R12 and need to know the impact on our Informatica mappings.  Can anyone point me to some documentation, or have leave some helpful hints on how to proceed with this project.  Thanks.

    Hello,
I assume you are using BI APPS, there shouldn't be any impact on informatica mappings. Informatica comes with prebuit adapters for EBS 12 version, you need to use ORAR12 adapter.

    Dear all Gurus,
We are going to implement Oracle EBS r12, for industrial concern, we have following quires if any peer may suggest.
    1) we heard the oracle R12 has build new release with 11g db , is it been practical for choosing it for corporate ???
    2) Linux Read hat which version is more stable like 5 releases is compatible with R12 new release?
    3) We are also thinking for 64 bit architecture rather than 32 bit, could any one figure out the practical pros and cons for this.
    4) We are also wondering about the server machine brand and its configurations like HP DL380 G6, DELL 2850? could any one share abut his experience about the same.
    5) What sort of Server configurations (Processor , 2way -4way , RAM , HD and other accessories ) for r12 Multi node setup for 150 clients (DB Server , Apps Server , Test Prod )
    6) What should be backup strategies like tap backup and how much space requirements we must have provisioned for retaining almost 2~3 month backup.
    7) Application implementations methodologies?
    8)
I know to address our queries would be time consuming for you bust peoples , but I would really oblige for being shared your journey this would defiantly the PATH way for other like mentoring for others.
looking forward your valuable instructions ASAP.

  • Implement OBI Apps 7.9.6 with Oracle EBS 12

    Hi
I have a couple of questions about the integration of OBI Apps 7.9.6 and Oracle EBS 12
The first is, which ETL tool is used for this integration? Informatica or ODI 11g
And the second is, my client is currently working on Oracle EBS 11 and plans to migrate to version 12, my question here is if the mappings and flows are fully supported version 11 to version 12 of the EBS or what I have to do to migrate?
I hope you can help me
    Greetings and thanks in advance

    Hi Luis,
Informatica is being used for the ETL. ODI will be an option when you move to Oracle BIA 11g (Fusion Application).
You should upgrade to the latest Oracle BIA (7.9.6.3) version for Oracle eBS. This prabably means that you have to move to Oracle BI 11g as well.
    Check the documentation here; http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/bi-foundation/documentation/bi-apps-098545.html

    2.     I would believe you can or have access to the internet and can download or find most of the resources needed.
    3.     I would assume you have installed the Windows 2003 Server with SP 1, Internet Explorer and Outlook. Also, have included an IP address, a server name with its domain extensions in the host file.
    4.     I would assume that you have created one group – dba , two users applmgr and oracle and included them in the dba and administrator groups
    5.     I would assume that you are at least familiar with the terms and usage of abbreviations in this sort of environments.
    6.     I would also assume you have reviewed and have made allowance to meet the required specification in terms of hardware (I did not attempt an installation on the USB HDD, so may not be able to help, if this applies to your situation)

Download and have read the following software:
    1.     Java Development Kit 1.3 (or higher version)
    http://java.sun.com/downloads/index.html
    2.     Active Perl – This is needed for the staging script adautostg.pl http://www.activestate.com/store/productdetail.aspx?prdGuid=81fbce82-6bd5-49bc-a915-08d58c2648ca
    3.      Visual C++ - This is needed for many of the real-time code compilation

    OR
MKS Toolkit (Evaluation copy, 30 Trial or get a licence for about $500)
    http://www.mkssoftware.com/eval/
This is necessary for certain unix-only available utilities required to implement/compile Oracle E-business Suite, such as which, make, cc, etc.
    5.     The DVDs or downloaded zipped copy of the entire Oracle E-Business Suite software for Windows 32-Bit ( I did not attempt on a 64-Bit processor, though I believe it should not be different, but see the necessary documentation if that is your situation)
    http://edelivery.oracle.com
    6.     Jinitiator – This is required to run the forms on your system (Although a first attempt to view any of the form interfaces downloads and requests this be installed first) http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/htdocs/devlic.html?url=http://otn.oracle.com/software/products/developer/htdocs/jinit.htm
    NOTE:
    •     DO NOT Install into the default directories and do not allow spaces in file directories/path when installing the software, somehow experience has shown that the Oracle EBS does not handle spaces in file directories well, and results in untold hardship if ignored. E.g Default installation folder for an software installation may suggest C:\Program Files\ JDK 1.5, MAKE SURE you alter this to something like C:\JDK15. DO THIS FOR ALL SOFTWARE INSTALLED
    •     After each software installation, please reboot the system before installing the next piece.
    •     Make sure that all the paths to the bin folders for all software installed is included in the environment variables, and verify by typing path in the command prompt to display all paths listed
    •     If using CYGWIN (like I did, as I could not afford a software expiring on me nor could afford $500 for a test). You may choose all the modules available, but you do not need all (it will be an overkill to have the entire unix utilities and libraries on your windows box, unless you plan on learning unix commands or into heavy development requiring a unix environment, without wanting a unix machine) MAKE SURE you choose all the library options, all the development options and that should be OK. Then confirm after the installation by typing which, cc (or gcc), make(gnumake), ls, gawk(awk), grep (egrep) (IMPORTANT:Where one of the other in brackets exists, copy and rename the copy as the alternative). As a double sure – copy all of these into C:\Bin directory.
    •     If the Oracle EBS is downloaded, unzip all the files into the folder and ignore any suggestions that it will over-write other files such as the component.label files
    Installation Proper
    •     Run adautostg.pl – which you will find in the StartCD i.e the first file downloaded and unzipped. This will attempt to rearrange the installation files in the order in which the installation wizard – rapidwiz prefers and identifies the folders. (Saves you hand-holding the wizard by having to interact during the installation, pointing it to the relevant folders/files if not run) to create the staging area.
    •     Run Rapidwiz – either by double clicking the rapidwiz.cmd in the startcd folder (this would be the one in the staging area) or from the command prompt
    •     As required, point rapidwiz, to the bin folder of cygwin e.g C:\cygwin\bin (if this is as installed) in the place where it requires the MKS Toolkit
    •     Pre-installation Checks – rapidwiz intelligently tests all the necessary software and requirements before installation starts. A corresponding message to each parameter suggests the opinion of the rapidwiz whilst a green tick indicates the parameter is sufficient, other indicators may need reviewing. Please make sure you resolve each issue before progressing with the installation. This may lead to a waste of time if not resolved.
    •     Choose a single-node installation
(if just testing or practicing, you may also choose a multi-node if this is what you want.)
    •     If all the modules are not needed (I installed all), you may have to choose which modules you require, and state where you want the modules installed.
    •     Assuming all parameters are passed and installation begins, the different stages of the installation steps can be followed by the on-screen messages or log file reviews (each logfile directory will be displayed on the screen during the installation of each context).
    •     Post Installation Checks – Rapidwiz does some checks after an installation, whether successful or not, and provides a report. When an installation is successful. It confirms and provides the url to login. The default username and password for the system administrator is usually sysadmin / sysadmin. You are encouraged to create another user immediately.
For all who asked, depending on how far up your hardware scales in terms of specifications, the installation may take about 3 hours (at least mine did) or more.
Login on to Oracle EBS !
    The URL required for logging on to the OAM (Oracle Application Management - For the Apps DBAs) and OEBS (Oracle E-Business Suite - essentially for the Functional Implemeters/Consultants ) - The entire gamut (They are shown as hyperlinks), should be as follows;
    http://hostname(servername.domainname.com):8000/
where hostname is the same as specified in your host file e.g servername.domainname.com or .whatever-u-like
    and
8000 - is the default port, but you may have chosen your own port and that should be used in such a case.
N.B - The Forms server is often started when an attempt is made to access such an interface after login in to the OEBS. However, in my own case, it did not until I made sure openmotif 2.1 was installed on my SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 9.1. The windows installation started without any issues.
    If all attempts fails….
You may have to try and try again by deleting all installation files and starting all the installation steps again. It will help if you know how to edit your registry settings to delete all reference to oracle e-business (not all reference to oracle though, as some odbc-related entries have been installed by Microsoft and require your registry settings to function)
Alternatively, send me your box, your mailing address and a token (money of course, and I may be able to set it all up for you) – JOKING!
CAVEAT: I will not be held responsible if anything unsavoury happens to your system in the course of you following the steps I have highlighted above either correctly or incorrectly. However, if you are successful, please sing my praises all over the forum and ask that I be rewarded by Oracle!

I have a Master Detail Form, with one master block and several detail blocks(5 detail blocks).
Each of the detail block is arranged on a tab. That means 5 detail block = 5 tab.
Now I wan to implement opposite of master less operation meaning, i need to prevent detail less operation.
To explain in a simple manner, If user enters a new record in master block, and does not bother to even navigate to any of detail tabs, then it should force user to at enter a record in these detail tabs and should prevent user from exiting the form or committing the form without entering detail tabs.
How can I achieve above functionality?
    Thanks,
    AB

    Hi Liem,
Could you please tell me the Portal Version ?
Some new indexes were created for 3.0.9 version that had help improving the form performance.
Create the following indexes as the portal owner (if the portal version is less than 3.0.9 )However, if the portal has been upgraded to 3.0.8 then they should have these indexes :-
    create index wwa_module_bindings_idx1
    on wwa_module_bindings$( subscriber_id,
    module_id,
    module_version,
    module_block_id,
    module_attr_id)
    create index wwa_module_lov_bindings_idx1
    on wwa_module_lov_bindings$(
    subscriber_id,
    module_id,
    module_version,
    module_block_id,
    module_attr_id)
