Oracle export from 8i

I have a newbie question - I searched the web for a long time but I cannot find any answers.
I understand that all packages, procedures and stored program units are stored in system tablespace or
sysaux tablespace. My requirement is to copy a few schemas from a source database into a target database. Is it enough to exp the schemas and bring them into the target database ? Will this bring the stored program units also across.Or will I need to export the sys/system schemas ?. I exported one schema and did the following in unix.
strings expdat.dmp|grep -i "package" but this returns nothing. I also opened the exp file and searched for the packages but to no avail. So I created a parfile (tables=somepackagename) but exp complained that the object was not found.
Any Ideas ?

Hello,
Oracle version in both source and target is 8.1.6.3.0I know it's not related to your question but, why do you use a 10 years old release ?
You may think to migrate someday to a newer release.
More over, from Oracle 10g, you may use DataPump (expdp / impdp) instead of the classical export/import and, with DataPump you can select accurately the Object TYPE you want to export or import by using EXCLUDE / INCLUDE parameters.
For instance, to export only Procedure, you may use this with DataPump:
INCLUDE=PROCEDUREElse about the content of expdat.dmp file you may try this:
imp <user>/<password> file=expdat.dmp log=<logfile>.log full=y SHOW=YIt's better than opening the dump file.
Hope this help.
Best regards,
Jean-Valentin

  • Export from Oracle 9i to be Imported into Oracle 10g on 32bit platform

    Hi,
Currently, I am in the process of performing a Homogenous system copy
due to a domain change in our organization using R3load procedure.
I have taken the export of the existing system which is on Oracle 9i.
Initially, I was planning on setting up the new system on Oracle 9i,
now that Oracle 9i is out of support, I would have to go with Oracle
    10g.
I found a note on this topic, SAP Note: 932722, however, this note
explicitly talks about database specific procedure of system copy and
also this note is for 64 bit platform.
Can you point me towards a Note or documentation which can be used as
reference for importing an Oracle 9i export into Oracle 10g on 32bit
    platform(System copy procedure is R3load)?
    OS- Windows 2003 32bit, ECC 5.0
    Regards,
    Vishnu.

    Hi Gagan,
    Thanks for your response,
As per your suggestion, I looked at the System Copy guide for Heterogeneous System Copy,
On service.sap.com/osdbmigration under FAQ's this is what I found,
I plan to copy my SAP system to a new hardware with the same OS and DB products but higher release levels. Is this a migration or a homogeneous system copy?
A change of the version of the operation system and/or the database system is not relevant in the context of a migration or a homogeneous system copy. If you don't change the product, but only the release level it is a homogeneous system copy. If you change OS and/or DB, it is a migration.
The system copy guide, doesn't explicitly talk about an export from Oracle 9i imported into Oracle 10g.
Can you point me to a guide or Note?
    Regards,
    Vishnu

  • Export from Oracle 8.0.2.0, Import to 10g

    Hello,
I am trying to create a dump file from a Oracle 8.0.2.0 database. I am using the Oracle Data Manager Export wizard to do so. This dump needs to be imported to Oracle 10g. I have created a blank database in 10g with the same name as in 8.0.2 and I can open it in Enterprise Manager using SYS user. I tried "Import from Export files" from Enterprise manager 10g but it fails to import. Can someone please tell me if I am missing somethings here?

  • Export from Apex 3.2 and import to Apex 4.0

I apologize if this has been asked before (and I am sure it has).
We are about to move all our Apex/Oracle apps to a server where Apex 4.0 is installed. Our current Apex version is 3.2. My question is can we export from Apex 3.2 and import in Apex 4.0 and expect everything to work (assuming it all works fine in Apex 3.2 and all Oracle objects were moved properly to the new server , both servers have Oracle 11g).

I am having trouble finding "update application" under any of the utilities.
Also one of my applications gives me the following error when I try to import it from Apex 3.2. to 4.0

  • Oracle Export and Import of XE application

I am trying to do an Oracle Export of an EX application and an Import to another PC. Can it be done?
I have encountered several problems. Either it brought over the application, but no Pages or I cannot access the Login page.
My reason for this is to handle application updates/changes for 50 odd remote users.
I am using APEX Release 2.1.0.00.39

Yes it was a full database export with all schemas.

I have the same problem about 5 days ago.
What I did is change the environment set of NLS_LANG into the
same dump file character set. I change NLS_LANG in environment
    parameter and in registry.

  • Error after Oracle Migration from DMTS into LMTS

    Hello ,
I'm sorry, I posted my question again from ABAP General into this forum ABAP Dictionary. I think that here someone can help me in order to proceed with my job in the Development and in production system.
We are using SAP R/3 4.6C, with SAP kernel 2271, Oracle 9.2.0.5 and HP-UX 11.23
I did the Oracle migration from dictionary into locally managed tablespaces on the QTS system (and before that the same migration on a separate system as a copy from production):
    1. export data and index tablespace with Oracle export command (exp: for PSAPCLUD and PSAPCLUI)
    2. import into file for creation of indexes
    3. Drop the data and corresponding index tablesspace with brtools - brspace
    4. recreate the tablespaces with sapdba or with sqlplus (using the ddl scripts created before dropping the tablespaces) - - I think is my problem
    5. import the data with Oracle import command
    6. import the indexes from the previously created sql file
    7. check optimizer statistics, analyze and next extents
    But there is one problem.
Because I have also used the sapdba and ddl sql for recreating the tablespaces, I didn't specify the SAP data class for the newly created tablespace.
And in the tables TAORA, IAORA and DDART (what is very unclear for me) 3 rows missing for the USER1, TEMP and ??? data class.
If you try to import some transport in the corresponding tablespace which data class is missing an error ocur.
I have read the Note 646681 - Reorganizing tables with BRSPACE, and I saw the part: If the <reorg_tsp> tablespace contains any of the following tables: SDBAH,SDBAD,DBAML,DBATL,MLICHECK,TGORA,IGORA,TSORA,TAORA, IAORA,SVERS,DD02L,DD09L,DDNTT,DDART,DARTT or SAPLIKEY (SAPLIKEY is only available in NetWeaver 2004s or higher), then you should move them to the tablespace <aux_tsp> by online reorganization using BRSPACE:
    brspace -f tbreorg -t <table_list> -n <aux_tsp>
Do you have the same problem?
Do you know how I can solve the problem now after the hole migration was done?
How can I dedicate tablespace data class?
Is it enought to just enter the same rows into the TAORA, IAORA and DDART?
    Thanks,
    Many regards,
    Ruzica

Apparently you are trying to mix 32-bit code and 64-bit code. You must ensure that the 32-bit or 64-bit option is used consistently on every command, compiling and linking. The form of the option can depend on the version of the C compiler you are using, and whether you are on an x86 or sparc system. Consult the Pro*C and C compiler documentation.

  • Oracle Export and import

    Hi,
I just want to do the export and import.
Source DB - Oracle 10g on Solaris 64 bit OS. (Export)
Destination DB - Oracle 9i on Windows OS (import).
Kindly confrm that these export and import is possible in oracle.
    Thank you,

add version=9.x while taking the export from solarisThat advice doesn't apply for 10g to 9i.
The export has to be done with the 9i "exp" binary, from a 9i ORACLE_HOME. It can be done over a SQLNet connection.
The subsequent import has to be done with the 9i "imp" binary.
