Oracle file packager
Dear Readers.I have developed a project using oracle 8 and developer 2000 and now i have to install it on client's machine.I have come to know that oracle file packager is the option which i will use to make a setup file but i am a bit confuse about its concept like what it does with our project and how to initiate it well so that i achieve my goal.
my goal is i want this package to make such a setup file which may install oracle and the project on designated place when double click on it.
if oralce file packager is meant for the purpose i have just mentioned then please guide me well.
i am waiting for ur responses.
Thank You
Hamad Salahuddin
i have to install it on client's machine.I don't have an answer to your question about file packager, but what kind of machine does your client have? What's the OS?
Be aware that Oracle 8.x isn't supported on anything newer than Windows 2000.
I'm not sure about Developer.

Oracle DBMS_RAND package install on NT
How do you install the Oracle DBMS_RAND package on NT. Oracle 8i is installed on and NT box and I'm not familiar with the tools in this environment. Like - is there such a thing as svrmgrl? If there is then how do I get there on a Windows NT box?
Thanks for any input
JR MyintI hope you are looking for the package DBMS_RANDOM (and not DBMS_RAND). It should already be installed. If you
do not see this package installed then you can run ${ORACLE_HOME}/rdbms/admin/dbmsrand.sql script to create
this package (you must run this script under user SYS).
Oracle8i should have SVRMGRL (Oracle Server Manager) installed (file SVRMGRL.EXE). You can go to DOS window and
type SVRMGRL at the DOS prompt to get Server Manager.

Oracle Software Packager.
Hi,
I'm trying to install Oracle Software Packager version 1.7.0.20.0A
on a Win2000 Server and the setup.exe program won't run. I installed
JDK 1.1.8 for Microsoft Windows, set CLASSPATH and PATH environment
variables. The release notes states that it runs on Win2000 Professional
Workstation with no mention of Win2000 server. If it works on Win200 Prof,
shouldn't it work on Win2000 Server??
Thx,
JohnIt turns out that JDK1.1.8 won't work correctly on
Pentium 4 machines. Old versions of symcjit.dll
cause Oracle's setup not to run on P4 machines.
This is what worked for me:
1. Copy the contents of the \install directory to a temporary
directory on
your harddisk.
2. Search for all copies of the 'symcjit.dll' file, and rename them
to
symcjit.old'.
3. Go to the \install directory and open the 'oraparam.ini' file
for
editing.
Please note this file is write-protected.
4. Change the JRE_MEMORY_OPTIONS parameter to
JRE_MEMORY_OPTIONS=-nojit -ms16m -mx32m
5. Save the oraparam.ini file.
6. Start the installation again.
The answer was found here: http://www.orafaq.com/msgboard/sqlnet/messages/1514.htm
It would be nice if Oracle put this info in the friggin release notes
for the software packager. But, I guess that would be too much work.
Why does the packager still use such an old version of java??? Anyhow,
thanks Oracle for wasting 2 days of my time.. -
Is this correct?
1) starting with version 9.0.3 iFS became two separate offerings; Oracle Files (Which comes with the Oracle Collaboration Suite - OCS) and Oracle Content Managment SDK (CMSDK) which comes with Oracle 9iAS.
2) Oracle Files is a packaged solution for enterprise file server replacement. By consolidating dozens, hundreds, or thousands of file servers, customers can dramatically reduce the cost of running their file server infrastructure. In addition, the enterprise collaboration features we added to Filesbuilt on features already in the CM SDKprovide enough content management functionality that many customers also evaluate it as a simple, scalable alternative to custom or packaged document or knowledge management solutions. Oracle Files ships with the Oracle Collaboration Suite.
3) The Oracle Content Management SDK is designed to help developers building content management applications, or adding content management features to other solutions, complete these ECM systems faster and more successfully. The robust Java API, protocol servers, and other features in the CM SDK provide the sort of ECM components that many developers need. The CM SDK ships with Oracle 9iAS.
I got that off metalink, and so this has got to be true. Anyone here from Oracle know for sure?I'm not "from Oracle" but I've talked to Oracle about this issue. What I've heard is as follows:
Oracle Files is a component of the Collaboration Suite built using the Oracle CM SDK. The problem is that it is not extendable using the CM SDK. In order to ensure that a CMSDK application that you develop may someday integrate with an Oracle Files repository I have been told by Oracle that: You should not create any new CLASSOBJECTS as children of FOLDERS or DOCUMENTS. This elimnates about half the functionality discussed in the CMSDK Developers Guide. The suggested alternative is to create application linked Categories rather than subclassing the FOLDER or DOCUMENT classobjects.
It looks to me like customization of Oracle Files is limited to adding your logo and changing the color scheme. When you deliver Files there isn't any ifs/cmsdk/ tree so this effectively prevents you from creating any custom_classes necessary to create agents or servers. I suspect that you could fiddle these in; but that would fall in to the category of unsupported extensions. Even if you could fit agents or servers in I believe that they would have to be passive, that is they should not mutate events or attempt to create objects.
So if Oracle Files does what you need, great. It is an inexpensive extension to AS 10g and I don't think that you could develop your own interface for less than $45/user. However, I think that it basically works for intranet collaboration, which is just one of many things that you can accomplish with CMSDK.
If you want to integrate CMSDK with Workflow or Interconnect; if you want to extend document types and provide custom processing, dynamic folder linking, and other fun stuff; or if you want to embed CMSDK into vertical application then Oracle Files won't work for you and you have to roll-your-own with CMSDK.

How do I represent "LESS THAN" using Oracle XMLDOM Package
I am creating a xml file using Oracle XMLDOM package.
I am creating a Text node with value "<". Following is the code that creates text node
CRRuleoptext := xmldom.createTextNode(MDRDocVal,var_mdr_rule_oper_flag);
The var_mdr_rule_oper_flag is coming from a table and its value is "<"
But once the XML file is created I see
<RULEOP>&;#38;lt;</RULEOP>
instead of
<RULEOP><</RULE>
How do I get < instead of &;#38;lt; using Oracle XMLDOM Package?Just create a text node with a literal less-than sign "<", this will get serialized either as &;lt; or as &;XX; (where XX is the unicode value for less-than).

To use Entity Bean or Oracle stored Package?
Currently, in my project, Weblogic8.1 and Oracle is used, but lots of business logic is implemented using Oracle stored Packages, many of these packages have a package level readonly lookup table(like index-by table or nested table), which is populated with data from database, once the package is called, and is accessed very often in subsequent calls of stored procedures.
Since, in Weblogic server, a connection pool is maintained, and those package level lookup tables would be stored as session data in oracle PGA, I'm afraid this might cause oracle database server to be overloaded.
to fully take advantage of middleware cache service that weblogic provide, should I move those business logic out of oracle and implement them using like read only entity bean?
any help appreciated! Its very hard to say without knowing the usage patterns of the data. It sounds like you have a lot of read-only entities. These could be spread around a WLS cluster, therefore there is more scalability and performance with this option. However, I would not neccessarily rewrite business logic from SP into EJB just for middle-tier caching.
If its a DB intensive app with lots of SQL, then if the calls are within SP's, there is only 1 call from WLS and the DBA ought o be able to tune the DB usin read-ahead and other DBA semantics. If there is locality of reference in the data, again, DB can use read-ahead better than WLS, although RO cache in middle is more scalable than DBMS.
I wouldnt rewrite business logic from SP to EJB/Entity beans to take advantage of cache, especially if there is no locality of read-only reference to data. Oracle could do this better in my opinion, especially if SP's already exist
Need for information on the usage patterns of the data - how is it CRUD'd.
I would use-case the steel threads and put them under test load to see if the SP's really are an issue, since this is an architecture decision. What state is the project at? Live/Dev? Inception? -
Where can I download adobe File Packager tool for Windows?
Dear all,
I need to understand the detail format of f4f files, but the only useful information I can find is the following:
http://www.adobe.com/products/httpdynamicstreaming/pdfs/httpdynamicstreaming_wp_ue.pdf
Is there more detail specification for f4f ?
Where can I download adobe File Packager tool for Windows?
It seems to me the following specification is not correct for f4f, at least the parts talking about "mdat" box
http://download.macromedia.com/f4v/video_file_format_spec_v10_1.pdf
Thanks,
XuedongAs per your question – follow this link http://www.adobe.com/products/adobe-media-server-family.html, download and install AMS Starter, then inside \tools\f4fpackager you’d find the F4F packager command-line application.

Accesss Files Stored in Oracle Files from Forms
I am attempting to access the files that are stored in Oracle Files (oracle collaboration suite) from an Oracle Forms.
To be more specific I am would like to implement a solution to access Files from Custom Form in Oracle Application(11i).
Any suggestions/thoughts in this regard is very much appreciated.
PavanHi we are on a project similar to this, basically you have two options:
a) Use Java-Importer to include the necessary classes to interact with IFS (e.g. rename, delete or get informations about documents).
b) Use a servlet to get files out-of and into IFS.
Because we had to do a lot of "loading" and we didn't want to run a round at client side to sign our forms jar files we decided to use method b).

How to upgrade from OCS 904 to 10g but not upgrading Oracle Files
Hi All,
We have installed OCS 904 from where we only are using:
- Portal
- Oracle Files
Our idea is to upgrade this installation to OCS 10g but keeping the same version of Oracle Files (we don't want to migrate to content services for the moment).
Is this possible? or if we want to keep Oracle Files we need to do a fresh install of OCS 10g in another location?
Thanks in advance,
Harvey>I want to upgrade it from RHEL 6 TO RHEL 7 and from ORACLE 11G TO ORACLE 12C. I wonder if anyone could suggest the best url for for upgrading accordingly.
which metric measures best? Fewest keystrokes?
BTW - you are actually doing 2 upgrades. You are upgrading OS & you are upgrading Oracle version.
So you can either over then up or up then over.
How much down down time is available?
How much risk do you want to include? -
Can i create any procedure or function inside a oracle reserve package?
Hi!
Can i create any procedure or function inside a oracle reserve package. Suppose, I want to create a function called x in the dbms_output package. Can i do that? Or can i extend the features of this package and create/derived a function from it like we extend any class in JAVA. I'm not sure - whether this is at all possible. I'll be waiting for your reply.
Thanks in advance.
Satyaki De.No, but you can write a wrapper package and use that instead of using the Built-In package directly. So, instead of calling DBMS_OUTPUT, you call your own Package.
Steven Feuerstein wrote a wrapper for DBMS_OUTPUT, called P:

I didn't exactly mean to use my iPod as a USB memory stick.
What I meant was that if I copied the contents of my iPod to a DVD and if something weird happened to my music player and I would have to format it...
Could I then just copy the files (I had burned on the DVD) back to my iPod and it would be the same as before? My music would be saved?
