Oracle DBMS_RAND package install on NT
How do you install the Oracle DBMS_RAND package on NT. Oracle 8i is installed on and NT box and I'm not familiar with the tools in this environment. Like - is there such a thing as svrmgrl? If there is then how do I get there on a Windows NT box?
Thanks for any input
JR Myint
I hope you are looking for the package DBMS_RANDOM (and not DBMS_RAND). It should already be installed. If you
do not see this package installed then you can run ${ORACLE_HOME}/rdbms/admin/dbmsrand.sql script to create
this package (you must run this script under user SYS).
Oracle8i should have SVRMGRL (Oracle Server Manager) installed (file SVRMGRL.EXE). You can go to DOS window and
type SVRMGRL at the DOS prompt to get Server Manager.

How to check for Optional Oracle 10gR2 components installed?
Hi
How can I get a list of all optional oracle database components/features installed (some of them may require additional license)? I was going through list of directory objects in a database and I spotted "ORACLE_OCM_CONFIG_DIR" in one of the databases (others don't have it). When I checked, it turned out to be a directory required for Oracle Configuration Manager (this may even be a totally separate install).
I have to configure a new oracle database server where I have to install whatever is installed on an existing one.
Oracle 10gR2 - RHEL 5.8
Please advise!
Best regardsThanks for your response. I just checked the output and "Oracle Configuration Manager" is not listed.

Oracle 10g r2 install in Fedora 13
Hi all,
I am a new Fedora guy. I get trouble to install Oracle 10g r2 in Fedora 13.
The following is error message:
[oracle@localhost database]$ ./runInstaller
./runInstaller: /home/oracle/software/database/install/.oui: /lib/ld-linux.so.2: bad ELF interpreter: No such file or directory
Who can help me? Please give me detail guide.
Thanks!Hi,
Seems a problem related to your glibc install. Are you sure you have the required packages ?
Don't know if your version is a 32 bits or a 64 bits one but check this link (32 bits) :
http://www.oracle.com/pls/db102/to_toc?pathname=install.102%2Fb28052%2Ftoc.htm&remark=portal+%28Installation%29
or this link (64 bits)
http://www.oracle.com/pls/db102/to_toc?pathname=install.102%2Fb15668%2Ftoc.htm&remark=portal+%28Installation%29
and follow carefully the instructions (Redhat instructions)
Best regards

Hi,
From where can I download oracle.AQ. package for 8_1_7?. Please provide me some link.
Thanks!!Hi Narayan,
The package should be installed when you install Oracle client or Oracle server. It is typically in $ORACLE_HOME/RDBMS/jlib directory.

Oracle Software Packager.
Hi,
I'm trying to install Oracle Software Packager version 1.7.0.20.0A
on a Win2000 Server and the setup.exe program won't run. I installed
JDK 1.1.8 for Microsoft Windows, set CLASSPATH and PATH environment
variables. The release notes states that it runs on Win2000 Professional
Workstation with no mention of Win2000 server. If it works on Win200 Prof,
shouldn't it work on Win2000 Server??
Thx,
JohnIt turns out that JDK1.1.8 won't work correctly on
Pentium 4 machines. Old versions of symcjit.dll
cause Oracle's setup not to run on P4 machines.
This is what worked for me:
1. Copy the contents of the \install directory to a temporary
directory on
your harddisk.
2. Search for all copies of the 'symcjit.dll' file, and rename them
to
symcjit.old'.
3. Go to the \install directory and open the 'oraparam.ini' file
for
editing.
Please note this file is write-protected.
4. Change the JRE_MEMORY_OPTIONS parameter to
JRE_MEMORY_OPTIONS=-nojit -ms16m -mx32m
5. Save the oraparam.ini file.
6. Start the installation again.
The answer was found here: http://www.orafaq.com/msgboard/sqlnet/messages/1514.htm
It would be nice if Oracle put this info in the friggin release notes
for the software packager. But, I guess that would be too much work.
Why does the packager still use such an old version of java??? Anyhow,
thanks Oracle for wasting 2 days of my time.. -
Installation/Launch error Oracle Software Packager
Hi. Has anyone ever run into problems launching Oracle Software Packager after the install? I'm getting the following error log generated each time I try to run it.
"Cannot run application. Please confirm that java 1.3.1 is in the PATH. If you are running on Windows ME/95/98, you may need to increase the environment memory in order to start OSP."
"Java version used is"
java version "1.3.1_01"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.3.1_01)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.3.1_01, mixed mode)
I messed around the windows path and memory variables, but to no avail. I currently have j2sdk_nb installed and have been trying to run OSP 2.2.0.16.0 I'm running W2k.hi.
This is a OUI problem.
Plase, check the Note: 131299.1 in Oracle Metalink and apply the workaround.
good luck

my goal is i want this package to make such a setup file which may install oracle and the project on designated place when double click on it.
if oralce file packager is meant for the purpose i have just mentioned then please guide me well.
i am waiting for ur responses.
Thank You
Hamad Salahuddini have to install it on client's machine.I don't have an answer to your question about file packager, but what kind of machine does your client have? What's the OS?
Be aware that Oracle 8.x isn't supported on anything newer than Windows 2000.
I'm not sure about Developer. -

Does The Output From Cloud Packager Install MS Visual Redistributables?
Does The Output From Cloud Packager Install MS Visual C++ Redistributables? I have just noticed from the original media that it installs some MS Visual C++ Redistributables along with it and would like to know if it's still necessary to also install them separately after you install the MSI from Cloud Packager.
ThanksYou must to view the section: http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/tech/windows/odpnet/install10202.html... there you will find all the information that you need for the installation in windows vista. I could to install the ODAC and i have not any problem.

Oracle Linux and Automatic Installation of Oracle Related Packages
G'day,
I recently decided to check out Oracle's Unbreakable Linux as I am/was thinking of switching to it for all my company's database deployments. What originally attracted me to Oracle Linux was that I though there would have been a kickstart, package or in the GUI install, a check box to install all of Oracle's dependencies.
When I installed it first, I manually selected a bunch of relevant packages, then installed any missing packages manually via a local YUM repository that I had made. Alas however, Oracle did not install correctly. So, I reinstalled, this time as a full install. Oracle then worked like a charm.
I also noticed, when editing /etc/sysctl.conf and /etc/securetty/limits.conf that these files had basically all ready been configured.
So, my question is, as I have had no luck using the search functionality here, is anyone aware of a kickstart argument, or an Oracle package that will install and in turn by way of dependencies, install all the necessary Oracle bits and pieces? Ideally, I would like to do this by way of kickstart as to automate as much of the process as possible.
If I can do this, then with some further testing, I will make the switch to Oracle's Linux for our Oracle deployments.
Cheers,
ConorYes, there is a great package called oracle-validated that is available that will pre-configured Oracle Enterprise Linux for installation using the Oracle Universal Installer. It ensures that things like sysctl.conf are all correct.
It should be available in the base download, so you can test it out. :) -
To use Entity Bean or Oracle stored Package?
Currently, in my project, Weblogic8.1 and Oracle is used, but lots of business logic is implemented using Oracle stored Packages, many of these packages have a package level readonly lookup table(like index-by table or nested table), which is populated with data from database, once the package is called, and is accessed very often in subsequent calls of stored procedures.
Since, in Weblogic server, a connection pool is maintained, and those package level lookup tables would be stored as session data in oracle PGA, I'm afraid this might cause oracle database server to be overloaded.
to fully take advantage of middleware cache service that weblogic provide, should I move those business logic out of oracle and implement them using like read only entity bean?
any help appreciated! Its very hard to say without knowing the usage patterns of the data. It sounds like you have a lot of read-only entities. These could be spread around a WLS cluster, therefore there is more scalability and performance with this option. However, I would not neccessarily rewrite business logic from SP into EJB just for middle-tier caching.
If its a DB intensive app with lots of SQL, then if the calls are within SP's, there is only 1 call from WLS and the DBA ought o be able to tune the DB usin read-ahead and other DBA semantics. If there is locality of reference in the data, again, DB can use read-ahead better than WLS, although RO cache in middle is more scalable than DBMS.
I wouldnt rewrite business logic from SP to EJB/Entity beans to take advantage of cache, especially if there is no locality of read-only reference to data. Oracle could do this better in my opinion, especially if SP's already exist
Need for information on the usage patterns of the data - how is it CRUD'd.
I would use-case the steel threads and put them under test load to see if the SP's really are an issue, since this is an architecture decision. What state is the project at? Live/Dev? Inception? -
Oracle win 11gr2 install in Windows 7 environment
I installed oracle 11gr2, the installation went very well. I could login to sql plus created tables and query the database.
Only one thing i see is different than past installations is that oracle files are installed in c:\app\userid\ admin... and other files in that path.
My experience in the past is to define oracle hone and files are found there.
is it going to be a problem when I use third party tools like erwin, toad etc.
how do i fix the problem. I tried to connect to the database thru erwin and had problem.
Thank you

Oracle Text in installing Oracle 10g without licence!!
Hi. Everyone.
I've read some thread , but I am still confused about "oracle text".
Now, I am testing oracle10g database.
I downloaded 10g software from www.oracle.com, and installed it sucessfully
on windows xp.
When I was trying to import a dump file from oracle9i to
the unlicenced oracle10g database, I got the error , IMP-00017, which
is related to "Oracle Text".
I checked "dba_users" dictionary, but ctxsys user is locked and expired.
I read some thread on this site, and according to the advice, I tried to
enable oracle text, using "DBCA".
However, every database option on DBCA is disabled, I was not able to
check oracle text.
Lastly, how can I enable "Oracle Text" with unlicenced oracle 10g ?
Is this possible without licence?
I am very confused about this.
I am looking forward to hear your experience and advices.
Have a nice day.
Best Regards.
Ho.Well, instead of being confused, you could go to http://www.oracle.com/pls/db102/portal.portal_db?selected=1 and look at
1) the licensing document, which would tell you whether you need a separate license, and
2) under the 'Books' tab, look at the Text Application Developer's Guide or the Text Reference manuals for details.
You could also look for the Oracle Text forum (from the http://forums.oracle.com page, under Database - More, or Text and ask the people who concentrate on that set of features.
In general, Oracle Text is a set of extensions, the definitions for which are stored under user ctxsys. You would use these extensions by creating your own objects that are based on the extensions.
For example, suppose your tables contain varchar2 columns. Create indexes that are based on ctxsys's 'context index type' and your application can then use the 'CONTAINS' keyword search capability (which is effectively a ctxsys-owned extension to the select)
However, you would never log on to ctxsys and do anythibng with that as you risk changing the template code that Oracle has supplied.

PS: Yes, Oracle Text is included as part of the base database. Most of it is even included in the free Oracle XE database. -
Oracle 10g not installing successfully in Windows Vista.
Dear Gurus,
Last week I bought a HP Pavlion Laptop with Windows Vista Operating System. Yesterday I tried to install Oracle 10g Database in it but got some errors during the installation and also it is not successfully installed. Even though there is no problem with the Software.
Please tell me whether Oracle 10g is supported in Windows Vista. If not what is the version of Oracle should I install. I urgently need Oracle Database to be installed in my Laptop, please suggest what can be done.
Thank you.
With Kind Regards,

Incidentally, which version of Vista is it? Oracle tend to only support the professional/business editions of Windows.
