Oracle gateways 11g to connect sybase

Dear Gurus,
Is there any document/tutorial related to oracle gateways 11g.
I want to use oracle gateway and odbc to connect sybase.
How to connect sybase from oracle database?is possible using dblink?
Thank you
JOE

Hi Joe,
yes it is possible. All you need is a suitable ODBC driver and the Database Gateway for ODBC.
There are documents available within the Oracle Support knowledge base (htp://support.oracle.com). As you didn't specify your preferred platform here a list of possible notes:

But oracle database is 10g............if i create link in Oracle it will work?
because 11gR2 gateway will synch with Oracle 10g database.

  • Oracle Gateway Not Connecting to Sybase database

    Hi,
I'm trying to setup an oracle gateway to connect to Sybase database. I followed in details the instructions but still can connect successfully. The Oracle database is in RAC environment. Below are the steps I took:
The oracle gateway and oracle database are in the same server while Sybase is on a separate unix box.
    1. create an initdg4sybs.ora file
    # This is a customized agent init file that contains the HS parameters
    # that are needed for the Database Gateway for Sybase
    # HS init parameters
HS_FDS_CONNECT_INFO=[999.99.108.99]:4527/common ## IP address of sybase server
    HS_FDS_TRACE_LEVEL=ON
    HS_FDS_RECOVERY_ACCOUNT=RECOVER
    HS_FDS_RECOVERY_PWD=RECOVER
    2. create a listener on the oracle gateway home
    # listener.ora Network Configuration File: /u03/app/oracle/gateway/11.2/network/admin/listener.ora
    # Generated by Oracle configuration tools.
    LISTENER_DG4SYSBS =

    3. create tnsnames.ora in oracle database home

    (SID = dg4sybs)
    (HS=OK)
    4. create database link
create database link dg4sybs connect to "user" identified by "password" using 'dg4sybs'
    5. when testing the connection; i'm getting below error message. tried all the setup based my research and couldn't make it work.

  • ODBC gateway in windows connecting local oracle to local mysql

I have setup a test system in my local Vista pc with oracle 11g and mysql. Just installed ODBC gateway and follow the instruction. The listener sid for ODBC started OK. But when I tried tnsping <sid>, it failed with tns-03505 failed to resolve name.

  • How to connect sybase database in JDeveloper 11g using JConnect

    Hi
How to connect sybase database in JDeveloper 11g using JConnect? Please help.

    User,
It would help if you explained Sybase Jconnect instead of leaving us to google.
At any rate, it appears you need to create a library definition in JDeveloper, add the appropriate JConnect JAR files to the library's classpath, and then add the library to your project.

  • Oracle Client 11g R2 in Windows 7 connecting a RAC server

I have the following setup in my laptop
    Windows 7
    Oracle Client 11g R2
I'm trying to connect "SQL plus" to a load balanced server (RAC) configured as below
    Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.4.0 - 64bi
    PL/SQL Release 10.2.0.4.0 - Production
    CORE 10.2.0.4.0 Production
TNS for HPUX: Version 10.2.0.4.0 - Production
    NLSRTL Version 10.2.0.4.0 - Production
The problem is, the connection creation is not consistent. It is throwing the following error randomly.
ORA-12545: Connect failed because target host or object does not exist
I'm able connect to another server (not RAC) without any issues. Even TOAD is giving the same error. After few tries, it works.
Anyone facing the same problem, got any solution???

    Hi all.
I've done all the checklists suggested but I'm still getting the error. The problem is not with the network and the servers cos I'm working in a Company and when I had Windows XP SP 3 and Oracle Client 10gR2 all was working fine. I'm with Windows 7 Professional 64-bit now. I'm almost sure the problem is with Windows 7 x Oracle Client but it's hard to figure out what's going on. Does anyone have idea what could it be ??I would generate a client side sqlnet trace, then go on a fishing expedition. There's a lot of dense stuff in a full trace, but if you don't panic and just try to make sense of what you can, you'll probably flush it out.
To enable the trace, go to your sqlnet.ora file and add these lines:
    TRACE_FILE_CLIENT=clientsqlnet.trc
    TRACE_DIRECTORY_CLIENT=C:\app\oracle\product\11.2.0\client_1\network\trace

  • Oracle Client 11g on Windows 2008 64 bit ASP Connection Problems

    Hi,
I'm trying to set up my old ASP applications on a new web server. I've moved from a windows 2003 server to 2008 64 bit.
I've installed the Oracle Client 11g 64 bit drives and if I create a new ODBC connection tat works fine. But IIS will not connect.
Connection string i've been using is:
    Provider=OraOLEDB.Oracle.1; Password=******; User ID=*****; Data Source=*****
All i get is no provider could be found.
"3706 Provider cannot be found. It may not be properly installed."
Can anyone help me out / point me in the right direction?
    Thanks
    Gareth Owen

    Hi,
Thanks for the reply. The app pool is running in 64 bit. I've tried installing a 32 bit version of the oracle provider and shifting the app pool down to that and no joy either.
Have tried changing the permissions on the Oracle folder which gives me no joy. It's as if IIS just has no access to the Oracle provider. But I just don't know how to get this working.
Under windows 2003 things just worked when I installed the Oracle provider...

    <Dec 21, 2010 1:28:19 AM GMT> <Info> <JDBC> <BEA-001516> <Connection Pool "acm_repository" connected to Database: "Oracle", Version: "Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.1.0 - 64bit Production

There is someting wrong in this environment
I donwloaded the _g version fo teh exact same driver and had weblogic use it so I could generate verbose logs
Here is a snippet fo teh oracle drivers verbose log file . If you notice the key parts
it seems like its spending 40 second to make the connection, goes into a setConnectionDuringExceptionHandling method and creates the connection
can someone shed light on what causes itto go into an exception state
This happens for each and every connection but only in one specific environment
we have other environments which seem towork fine with the exact same product versions except for this environment
Thank you for any guidance on troubleshooting this further

I would file an oracle jdbc bug to begin with, but I am guessing the driver is simply waiting
for the DBMS to respond, so yo may need a good DBA to see what the DBMS thinks is going
on at the time. I did hear of a case where the DBMS was doing some auditing, logging
some info during every login. This info was being written to an OS file which just happened
to be remote-mounted and would occasionally take 30 seconds, which caused connection
requests to timeout at the driver end.... WebLogic is just asking the driver for a connection
using your properties, so it's not involved directly with the problem....

  • Oracle 11g XE Connectivity Problems

Hi to all and thanks for the attention !
    Quick facts
    OS : Microsoft Server 2008 R2 (x64)
    Oracle Version : 11g XE (x32)
    Database name : XE
I've been fighting over with providers for a whole day and I can't seem to make this work out,
I have an application(Web, on a IIS 7) that connects to a schema, the connection uses a Oracle Provider For OleDB, well at first I was getting a "Provider not registered" error, that was easy I only had to make the app run on x32 and puf the error changed, so I quickly set up the Data Source ( with the data source manager located in WOW64 ) with a oracle ole db provider, no problems, I can click on it, it will ask me for a user/password and when I click test connection I works just like I would expect it to work, now back to the application, when i set the connection string up, I get a error from the app : ORA-12154 TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified. So went up and tried making a udl ( invoking again the x32 ), same error ORA-12154 so I started digging and so far so good what I got is, "try tnsping <instance_Name>", did it, and got an OK (40ms) (though I had to navigate to bin folder, which was not explained in the posts, perhaps this means something ?) and also registered the oraoledb11.dll with regsvr32
Oh ! And I can connect to the database with sqldeveloper
I know really little of Oracle, any thoughts ?
    Thanks again !

ORA-12154 ALWAYS only occurs on SQL Client & no SQL*Net packets ever leave client system
ORA-12154 NEVER involves the listener, the database itself or anything on the DB Server.
ORA-12154 occurs when client requests a connection to some DB server system using some connection string.
TNS-03505 is thrown by tnsping & is same error as ORA-12154 thrown by sqlplus or others.
The lookup operation fails because the name provided can NOT be resolved to any remote DB.
The analogous operation would be when you wanted to call somebody, but could not find their name in any phonebook.
The most frequent cause for the ORA-12154 error is when the connection alias can not be found in tnsnames.ora.
The lookup operation of the alias can be impacted by the contents of the sqlnet.ora file; specifically DOMAIN entry.
So post the content of the sqlnet.ora file.

  • How to retrieve database connection port? Oracle XE 11g beta

Hi, I installed Oracle XE 11g beta two weeks ago. I can use Application Express in the local host and from other networks. I have been trying to connect to the database with SQL Developer from another PC in the same network, but I just can't. User and password I am using are correct since I can login from SQL Plus in the localhost. So maybe I changed the default port 1521 on installation but I don't remember. Is it a way to retrieve port information from a SQL Plus window or see that information in a config file?
    Francisco

    Hi Francisco,
I could not query lsnctrl status from the database.I'm sorry I didn't point that out. lsnrctl is a command line tool like sqlplus, and status is one of its parameters.
I cannot connect anyway. Now APEX does not startup.Well, there's two things: The correct configuration of the database listener and the state it is in. Try lnsrctl to see if the listener is running at all.
APEX depends on a "living" database listener as well.
If you have a "sometimes, sometimes not" state, you possibly have some other network service using the default port for APEX's web server, which is 8080.
SQL Developer installed in the same machine and it doesn't startup neither. That's really odd, but probably a completely different story.
As I assume my answer is too late to stop your reinstallation, keep these analysis steps in mind if it doesn't work right away.

  • Pooled Connection not supported in oracle forms 11g

    Dear all,
I am using oracle from builder (11.1.1.4) and oracle database 11g Release 2. I can connect to the database from oracle forms 11g, when I use a dedicated or shared server connection mentioned in the tnsnames.ora file . But I want to use the oracle database 11g's new feature DRCP (Database Resident Connection Polling).
To do this a made a another POOLED connection (SERVER=POOLED) in the tnsnames.ora.I can connect to the 11g r2 database server from sqlplus using POOLED connection. But when I try it from form builder (11.1.1.1.4) it gives error with some unknown characters.
Then I tried it in linux frmcmp the message i got in terminal is can not *"Cannot obtain ORACLE version number"*
I have googled and also checked in metalink. But I got nothing. Thanks in advance for your help.

I don't think this feature is feasible for forms.
    Quoting the documentation from
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/server.111/b28310/manproc002.htm
Database Resident Connection Pooling (DRCP) provides a connection pool in the database server for typical Web application usage scenarios where the application acquires a database connection, works on it for a relatively short duration, and then releases it.
Forms keeps a permanent connection to the database, so a connection pool isn't gonna help you in any way.
    cheers

Now the problem is , when i create a repository service i get the error
" The service did not start due to the following error: *Unable to connect to the repository Oracle_BI_DW_Base on database* . " here Oracle_BI_DW_Base is also the name of my .rep repository that came with OBI APPS installation.
i have oracle database 11g installed and also created respective user for repository of informatica.
what should i do in this case??
    plz help

    Good Morning.
I had the same problem and I had the same IE 6, the problem was the translation between the IE6 from http and https, to solve it you just need to open your url typing
https:url:port, do no forget to put the s after the http, with this my problem was solved.
    best regards.

  • Connection between oracle forms10g on XP and oracle db 11g on WINDOWS 7

    Hello,
I am trying to connect forms 10g R2 to oracle 11g.
My forms is on windows XP inside VMware while my db is on windows 7 64 bit host.
i have tried all ways known to me and the ones i saw on the internet but none works.
I will be glad if you can refer me to a link that talks on this type of connection in details or any solution you can provide.
    Thanks in anticipation
    AbdurRahman

    Thank you for your response,
    1) I copied the tnsnames.ora,sqlnet.ora and listener.ora files from the database 11g on the windows 7 host to the DevSuiteHome_1\NETWORK\ADMIN path for the developer
    suite 10g on XP Vmware.
    2) I also entered the host address in the C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\host file i.e 192.168.202.54     AAJANI-pc.
