Hi.
I do manage about five oracle database (both 9iR2 and oracle 8). Everything is okay, but management wants me to produce some form of graphic report showing database availaibily, disk space usage and so on. I know OEM can do some of these stuffs, but would like to know if there are some tools that can help me achive mai goals. Was thinking of writing scripts, but how can ai spool these scripts to an excel file say so that ai can have some graphical report???
And ai wanna know most is that one can ai have a graph showing database availaibilty??
A junior DBA in need of some help and advice.
Thanks

If you don't like OEM, then try WISE: http://www.wise-oracle.com/index.html

  • Regarding T Bar in Oracle 10g Reports

    Hi,
We have the requirement to generate line graph report to meet the following requirement.
The graph must be draw 4 horizontal lines.
In these 4 lines, two lines displayed in the top and two lines in the bottom.
The bottom two horizontal lines should be drawn along with vertical lines(T bars ) for      every x values.
This graph is actually a combination graph which have both horizontal lines and T Bars.
We have been recommended to use Oracle 10G Report builder to build this kind of report.
We tried all the option available in the reporting tool, we could not able to represent T bars.
Is it possible to generate report with T bars using Oracle 10G
    reporting tool.
    Thanks & Regards,

The best tool depends on what you want. Any tool that uses SQL and provides a method for output can be used for reporting.
SQL*PLUS provides effective if simplistic reporting capabilities including writing to files and very basic formatting.  Printing is a bit trickier as an OS interface must be implemented.
GUI tools like SQL*Developer and TOAD also provide output.  Getting them to schedule jobs if needed will probably be hard since they are "ad hoc" tools.
Apex provides reporting capabilities including graphs and is easy to use if you're willing to work with the capabilities built into it.  It can also be customized with a bit of effort.
Other tools exist.  OBIEE is popular.  These other tools may require extra licenses.

  • Using AE(htmldb 2.0)  as for reporting tool for other oracle databases.

Maybe I was mistaken, but when I first saw the HTMLDB demo's I saw this as a slick way to build a browser based reporting tool for the masses for quasi-ad-hoc reporting on some of our larger databases that currently have limited reporting capability, and also as a possible replacement for the many MSAccess applets we have.
I just got 2.0 installed and working on a 9i database and went through the basic tutorials, but I can't find much info on how to connect to other oracle databases.
    Are my options as follows?:
create dblinks from the local database that houses htmldb to all the other databases?
    or
install htmldb schemas on each database I want to access from htmldb?
    or
I'll keep looking, but if any of you have any pointers or know of a tutorial that explains the best way to do this it would be greatly appreciated!

As for question 1, yep, that's what I mean. Example:
In a schema in the App Express instance, create a user called "APP1_USER", and then
create view app1_user.people as select * from people@link_user@remotedb
As for the next question, using the built-in insert/update/delete processes will give you
ORA-01461: can bind a LONG value only for insert into a LONG column
among other errors. Apparently version 2.1 will fix this. See Cannot Update VARCHAR column in Remote DB
We address this problem by creating pl/sql APIs for DML, and then writing our own insert/update processes. Slows us down a little, but even with that, App Express remains a productive choice for us.
Another weird problem: auto-row fetch (built-in to HTML DB) doesn't work over db links when you have two columns for a primary key. Many ways around this, e.g. create sequence-populated primary key, create a view with single column that concatenates primary key column values (key1|key2)
    Hope this helps!

  • Regarding: Oracle Reporting tool

    hi all

    Hi,
There are installation documents included in the APEX download itself, I really advise reading those documents since they cover everything you need to know about how to install it.
Also, there is a huge amount of information here -
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/application_express/index.html
including many HOWTO's, examples, whitepapers, documentation and guides that will give you information about what APEX is, how you to use it and what you can do with it.
Note, since you're looking for a Reporting tool, APEX might not be exactly what you need, however you can easily build reports using APEX, so as I said earlier it really depends on you actual requirements.

  • Which Oracle reporting tool do I use?

I’m looking for a web based ad-hoc reporting tool, Preferably an Oracle product. Something that once set up and configured (point to a specific database) select users can login into via a browser and build ad-hoc reports. I don’t want to have to create a report then publish it for the end user and especially nothing should need to be installed on any desktop.
Amongst the confusing vast array of oracle BI products: Oracle Reports, BI Publisher, Business Intelligence Server, Interactive Dashboards, Intelligence Answers, Oracle Business Activity, Hyperion Interactive Reporting, Hyperion Web Analysis etc, etc, etc...... there must be what I’m looking for.
If someone could please point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it.

    Hi ,
    It depends on you requirements...
You can use Interactive Reporting Tool. To use Interactive Reporting you need to install below components
    1) Shared Services
    2) Reporting and Analysis BI Services
    3) Reporting and Analysis UI Services ( includes Interactive Reporting, Financial Reportinig, Web Analysis and Workspace)
To meet you requirement you can perform the below tasks
    1) Create an OCE publish the same to Workspace.
    2) Give access to user on that OCE.
    3) User can create their own reports.
For more details on the same, please visit
    Hyperion System 9.3.1

  • What was the first GUI development tool of Oracle?

    Hi,
I am an Oracle Developer and currently developing my own Website dedicated to Oracle, especially on the development tools. In my website I have a page dedicated to the history and development of the Oracle Developer tools, from SQL*FORMS 1,2,3,4 etc. to the Current Developer. What I want to know are the release dates of the first Windows based development tools by Oracle. I know that Forms 4 was the first Windows based GUI development tool Oracle released ( I think it was called Oracle CDE). But I don't know when it was released. Was it in 1993 or 1994? If you can tell me which month it would be even better and more accurate. I got to know through the Internet that Developer/2000 Version 1 was released in March/1995. Is this true? Any information on this would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks & regards
    LS

    Hi,
the first version of CE was 7.1. Followed by 7.11 and 7.20. But you have to be carefull. There was a netweaver release 7.0 which already included parts of the components shipped with CE (e.g CAF and WebDynpro). But these are different releases, so it is not possible to do an easy upgrade from NW 7.0 to CE 7.1
    Best regards,Stefan

  • Oracle Apex as a reporting tool.

    Hello all,
i just installed APEX. I can build reports etc using schemas in the oracle instance that i installed Apex in. How about connecting to other Oracle databases which have my key data ?
Can i use this instance to connect to any other like Business Objects or other reporting tools ?
Or, do I have to use db links ? Dblinks is a non option, so hopefully there is a simple way.
Please share links etc, as relevant.

    Hello,
APEX (formerly known as HTML DB) is a framework integrated into the Oracle Database, so you are of course bound to the restrictions that apply to the database.
What you can do, in addition to database links, is to create web services that provide you with the data of other database instances. Both APEX and database releases make using web services easier with every new release.
If you have a 11g database, your database could provide a Web Service "natively". See the corresponding part of the XML DB documentation:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/appdev.111/b28369/xdb_web_services.htm#CHDDBCHB
Of course you may use other out-of-the-box frameworks to create a web service based on a jdbc-connection and hosted by some app server.
The following tutorial shows you how you can incorporate Web Services in APEX:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E14373_01/appdev.32/e13363/web_serv.htm#CHDJEFEB
Perhaps this helps you focussing on one APEX instance to collect data from different databases.

  • Best OLTP Reporting Tool

    Hi Gurus,
My company asked me to build a reporting framework to support their needs on OLTP, i am trying to do some research on which tool is the best tool to do reporting on OLTP..
Need help to find out a best reporting tool to make reports on OLTP data base
Right now we are using OBIEE for our OLAP reporting and we are open to implement any tools, need inputs and comparisons between all the available tools and pros and cons also.
    Appreciate all your inputs/suggestion.
    Thanks,
    Seshu.

    1) I guess you tried to pull thousands or report's rows on screen. Firstly OBIEE does pagination perfectly. Secondly human being cannot handle more than 30-50 lines physically. It is simple psychology. As soon as you've jumped on other couple pages you have no idea what was on the first pages. I've never seen such an idiot who would need report even with few hundred rows. Such reports are example of bad practice.I agree with that but you missed my point. Enterprises are large "beats" and as such they have many departments where they use different tools. In an ideal world you will have one and only one DWH with one an only one reporting tool on top. The thruth is that this never ever happens in reality. So in many cases users are asked to provide larde data extracts to use as sources for other reporting systems or external entities. OBIEE can not handle these data extracts properly as it not designed to work as an "extraction tool". This is what you missed. BO can handle them very well as it was designed as an extration tool in mind.
    2) Here you are right if it is all about dimensional model. However here is the difference between OLTP and data warehouse. In data warehouse users should be educated to know conceptual and logical models. BTW you are getting requirements from them and you say they don't know which dims can be pulled with facts and which ones cannot? Wow )) Also OBIEE does allow to pull such dims ( not connected to facts ) using very simple OBIEE modeling technique (level-based measures). That makes OBIEE reporting/analytics very flexible. You are only thinking dimensional. That's very good for an OBIEE developer. But the world is more than just dimensional. You can't answer all reporting requirements with a dimensional model I am afraid. So keep this in mind. A DWH is not the solution to all report requirements just like saying "a truck is the best vehicle in the world because it's big and can transport big loads". BTW have you tried to implement cross-fact analysis in OBIEE? Do you know that you need to set the content level for each non-confirmed dimension in each measure individually or OBIEE will bring back the measure as "NULL"? It's non-sense really, it's too tricky and too flaky.
    3) OBIEE has GUI object called PROMPT. There you have full power to force users to apply filters. And you can easily pre-defined your prompt's filter values.Again you missed a key word on my statement: "adhoc users". Prompts are fine but don't exist unless the OBIEE developer creates them in advance, typically in a dashboard. I am talking about ad-hoc here so you know that's Answers. Try to restrict Answers users and force them to put a filter on a column and you will know what I mean. BO can do this in the metadata very easily. OBIEE can't. Prompts are fine (*) but they need to be created in advance by the report developer. (*) Actually they are not that fine, you can't even force them OOTB to use a prompt or not run a dashboard without any values. Sure there are work arounds, but such a basic feature should be part of the product!
    4) OBIEE has different concepts of dims hierarchies and visual presentations. Here you are mixing them together. Indeed OBIEE 10g has such a restriction on GUI to have maximum two embedded levels. But it is only visual presentation. In business model you can have N levels of hierarchy and multiple hierarchies in dim . My goodness !!!Do you really think that ORACLE does not follow dimensional modeling ABCs? BTW please check Gartner's magic quadrants. ............BTW did you see OBIEE 11g demo ??????Yes it's only visual presentation, but that's one of the most important things! It's a stupid restriction. If you can have N levels on the BMM why shouldn't you have the ability to prent the data in more levels. Yes, I have seen the magic quadrant and Microsoft is on top of OBIEE (see http://www.gartner.com/technology/media-products/reprints/microsoft/vol2/article15/article15.html). Yes I have seen OBIEE 11g and have running on one of our Dev boxes. It's one of the most buggy releases I have seen in years. Only last week the client tools were released for Windows. How can you have proper ecosystem without proper client tools? No Solaris or HPUX release so it's a partial release. No support for other J2EE web app servers. From our point of view OBIEE 11g is a beta release. We are seating and waiting for Oracle to clean it this mess and get the product stable. And if you think Oracle Support will help read this: http://searchoracle.techtarget.com/news/2240031826/Has-the-phrase-Oracle-Support-become-an-oxymoron
    5) Inheritance...Hm, maybe it is simple dimensional modeling concept of supertype/subtype described in any BI/DW books? I am not arguing. maybe BO does it with one click. yeah, convenient enough, but no critical.Consider this problem. You have a large DWH that a large organisation wants to share with different departments which they would then extend adding they own data sources and customise to their own needs. How would you handle changes in the "core" model that need to feed to the different departments metadata stores? RPD merging and MUDE is a mess to be honest, it barely works and it's too prone to human error. Once you worked in a very large project with many OBIEE developers working in different parallel projects you will realise that inheritance is the only sensible solution. I wish Oracle would see this as well. If the metadata was in a database it would have been so much easier...
    6) Again just lack of knowledge of dimensional modeling in OBIEE. The one support ALL types of models: snowflakes (3NF) and star. Only what OBIEE requires you cannot have standalone logical table without any relations to at least one another table. Heh...I cannot recall such an example even from Bill Inmon. Regarding 3 layers. This gives you tremendous advantage over BO )) Why? It is long story))You can support all models in dimensional, but should you be forced to use it? 3 layers is not advantage. It's an interesting aproach to solve how you need to model things in OBIEE. You have become too used to it and now think it's the best in the world. It's not, in a relational reporting solution 2 layers are more than enough (physical with all your joins and presentation with all your business names and hierarchies).
    8) You I understood you correctly ))))))) None of BI tools today can beat OBIEE on number of supported data sources. I'm just wondering. When you add new column in dim/fact table you DO NOT change your metadata????? My assumption is that BO does always "select * from <table name>"? Yes, then you don't have to change your metadata. The what kind of query BO generates against database??? select d1.*,f1* from dim d1, fact f1...????OK consider this requirement. You work for a top US bank. You have invested $5m in the state-of-the-art DWH with OBIEE that covers every requirement you may even need. The US FED comes in and tells you that it wants one of your excellent reports but filtered for a number of companies. They give the user a spreadsheet with 20k companies that you need to filter you report on. Can any user in OBIEE perform the filtering without any changes in OBIEE? No. In BO you can. End of the argument.
    9) That is not true AT ALLYou saying that OBIEE can "merge" two Answers reports and get attributes from both queries in an INNER/OUTER/FULL OUTER fashion? Please show me how, I love to learn from you! (BO indeed can).
    10) You r kidding me )) have you forgotten in what time are we living??))) Do you read latest news? By 2016 most of businesses will be in social networks. Everyone wants to be power user holding mobile device in his hands!!!
AND.....OBIEE already DOES it !!!The web client works for 90% of the user population, as said in my comment for real "power users" a fat client approach works best. There browsers are still not powerful enough to handle large data sets. Going back to Gartner's 2011 Quadrant for Business Intelligence Platforms, which you seem to love, I quote from it: "[...] it (Oracle) has lacked innovation around mobile, in-memory, consumerization, interactive visualization and search [...]".
Please forgive me to be so sarcastic. But today the only real advantage BO over OBIEE is PRICE. I would really advise you to look at OBIEE11g. It is almost different product then OBIEE10g.I love sarcasm. Sarcasm is my middle name. But you need to open your mind a bit. OBIEE has taken control of your brain! :-) One solution does not fit all. The world of IT is too big for that...

  • Compare reporting tools

    Hi,
Could some one point in the right direction - we are trying to finalize the reporting tool.
We have worked with BI-Publisher(not as dynamic) and Discoverer(formatting a big issue) - trying to find a tool that would overcome the limitations that these 2 tools have.
We want to be able to use Oracle Db, VPD, set client_id using OPD.Net, integrate with web application as key requirements. By same token would like to be able to create dynamic reports which allows a great deal of flexibility. Is there such a reporting tool?
    Any ideas much appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Hi
I'll try and answer your questions.
    1. Xml, Sql(either a view or stored proc) as input
data sourceYou can base an Apex report on a view or mod/plsql procedure, or use xmldb.
    2. support odp.net providerAs I understand it odp.net is a tool used by .net to access Oracle. Apex is a database tool so all the data and code, everything is in the database.
    3. Work with VPD - virtual private database Yes.
    4. single-sign-on, and setting client_identifier on
    connection.Yes
    5. Integrate with existing web application(asp.net
2.0)Not sure what integration you want.
    6. This tool is free right, to be used with Oracle
10g database.Free and can be used with 10g or 9i databases.

  • Installation Guidance (WebLogic 10.3.5 / Oracle Forms,Reports 11.1.1.6)

Goal : I am a designer/developer, have worked on already-installed systems for years, now between contracts and want/need to set up my own installation of Oracle Database 11g R2 database and development tools including Oracle Forms/Reports 11g (also SQL Developer and Application Express, but these come with the DB).
Caveat : have not done an installation of the DB and development tools for years and I know a lot has changed.
System : Windows 7 (64 bit), 6 GB RAM, 600 GB Hard Drive
Here is an overview of the steps as I understand them from the documentation I've been able to find. I know there are lots of details for each step but I want to know if the overall order is right.
    1. Install DB (downloaded Oracle 11G Release 2, ready to install Enterprise Edition).
    2. Install Repository Creation Utility 11g Release 1 (11.1.1.5.0) to set up the schemas for Fusion Middleware
** QUESTION ** where on earth does one find this? Anyone have a link for it? Or does it come with a larger patchset/installation set?
    3. Install Oracle WebLogic Server 11g (10.3.5)
    4. Install Oracle Portal, Forms, Reports and Discoverer Release 11g (11.1.1.2.0) but do not configure (advice given in documentation for 11.1.1.6 Patchset)
    5. Install and Configure 11.1.1.6 Patchset
Any comments or suggestions welcome. Hope to avoid pitfalls if possible.
    Thanks in advance !

  • How to create a Desktop based reporting tool

Regarding the Rreporting tool . Here I am mentioning the key points of my requirement,
As a first step the user creates the table linking and Alias naming.
Need a GUI kind of reporting tool, Where the user can drag and drop the tables, In that he can build the relations among the tables (if any exists).. User should be given a provision to make alias names for tables and columns. Then saves his report
In the second step user can check his saved report and select the columns . Based on the selected columns a query should be populated automatically with all the selected columns and where clauses based on the links/joins with the user given alias names (if any). Based on this the report should be generated..
I know there are many reporting calls like BIRT,Pentao. But the thing is when I am working or developing on these tools its design is fixed and file gets generated. which can viewed in that editor only.. (like .reportdesign, .report, .rptcustom)
Here please tell me which tool to use and how to start with.
Here the tool can be a desktop application or a war file. (This complete thing should be a GUI based)
--> It should connect to a database and show the list of tables ( or set of tables which are already stored in DB)
--> based on table selection we should display columns of that table
--> if multiple tables are there we should show relations between tables ( if any exists)
( the relations will be already stored in back-end tables, just we need to check any relation exist or not)
--> User should be a given a option to provide alias naming for tables and columns
--> User should save the complete set as a report (with alias names also if any provided by user)
--> when once we save the report we should provide a option to run the report and display the result.

What have you coded so far?
If you are looking for someone to do it for you, then be aware: this is not a do my project for me service, but many of the people on here do consulting at 100+ USD per hour. Check one of your local services and I'm sure you can find a local deveoper to do your project for you.

    Hi Airings,
'ORA-00942: table or view does not exist'
According to the error message, it seems that the migrating table or view does not exist in the database, or SSMA does not have access to it. To troubleshoot the issue, please check the following things.
     1. Verify that if the spelling of the table or view name is correct.
     2. If the table or view exists but is in a different schema from the current schema where the SQL is executing (in other word, the table doesn’t own by you, but owned by other user), the ORA-00942 error will return too. Resolve this by
explicitly reference the table or view by specifying the schema name (schema_name.table_name).
    3. SSMA queries some additional catalog tables that you may not have permission to, please make sure that you grant the account permission to
read sys.mlog$. For more details, please review this similar thread:
