Oracle libraries - licences

Hi list,
I saw that oracle has taken classes from sun and bundled them to new libraries.
For example orasaaj.jar or orajaxr.jar.
Why did they do this? Were changes necessary?
What is about the licences of these and further oracle libraries like soap.jar?
Are they free for use and distribute?
greetings
Florian

Hi,
I don't think you have anything to fear, actually. If your Oracle license gives you the right to create redistributable applications, then those applications can rely on the Oracle versions of SAAJ, JAXR and anything else in our distribution. The fact that some of the code in these libraries may be licensed by Oracle from Sun is irrelevent. You only need to refer to your Oracle license agreement to understand your rights for this code.
Cheers,
Bill

  • Where to get Oracle libraries

I have a jar that runs in Linux32, with a JDK that includes Oracle JDK.
    I then tried it in Windows32. I don't have a Windows32 JDK, so I got error:
    java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: oracle/javatools/util/CommandParser
When can I get Oracle libraries that include CommandParser, and some other Oracle classes? I think If I install JDev for Windows32, it will bring the libraries. But don't know what path I should add to classpath.
    Can anyone please advise? Thanks!

    Thanks, Frank!
You can do the same using JDeveloper: - Open project properties
    - Select Libraries node
    - press New
    - type class into Search Field>
JDeveloper has so many useful features, so I could not observe all of them and I have missed this one. It is great that this forum is supported by highly experienced Oracle employees, who are familiar with the tools and frameworks in details. I started wathcing the forum thoroughly quite recently and I am amazed of how many useful things I have learned for a short period of time thanks to the forum.
    Thank you again.

  • Any proprietory Oracle libraries need to build & deploy JDev's JSF app?

Hi, I'm very new to JSF.
I wish to use Oracle JDeveloper for RAD of java web application. I notice JSF probably is what i'm looking for, but I'm also concern about proprietory issue.
So, my question is by using Oracle JDeveloper (a free IDE tool as what I know) to build JSF application and deploy to nonOracle J2EE app server, does it involve any proprietory Oracle libraries or jar file that we still need to in order get the JSF application we build using JDeveloper to be working?
    Please advise.
    Thank you.

    Thanks for the info.
I'm really new to JSF so before seriously use it for development, would like to get as much advice as possible from the those familiar with it first.
To be more specific, as long as I only have adf-faces-impl.jar & jsf-impl.jar in my web-inf\lib, that means we are not using any proprietory libraries right?
So, if I use plain JSF or ADF Faces, will I be able to make use of the data binding to other Open Source database like MySql? If yes, does this data binding (mapping text fields to database fields) requires use of proprietory oracle libraries like bc4j? or for JSF there's alternative? cos I saw in JSF HTML got something call dataTable. RAD is one of my major concern, but I don't want to tie up using proprietory oracle libraries.
Actually I want to use mysql as the database and JDeveloper as the IDE, but i need a RAD environment. So, currently looking into JSF.
    Thank you.

  • Jdeveloper run time oracle libraries

Hi, I installed jdeveloper and was trying to connect a java class to one of my oracle databases. When I try to "Run" the class in JDeveloper I get the error message below. So it compiles but can't find the run time libraries. So how do I tell JDeveloper where the run time libraries for jdbc are?

Shay, Thanks added the jdbc library and the message is changing so progress.

  • Oracle Database licence and Virtualisation

    Hello Everyone,
I know its a little bit off topic but do you know if we can licence our Oracle DB Server on a subset of cores using Virtualization?
Lets say we have a 2 Quad-Core host (for a total of 8 cores). On this host we create a virtual machine with 2 cores and install Oracle Server on it. Can we licence this Oracle server for 2 cores only?
    Best regards,
    Carl

    Thanks a lot Madrid,
In fact I think that it is the Oracle Software Investment Guide that is not clear:
    "Partitioning Servers
Oracle recognizes that customers may elect to partition servers for various reasons. These might include achieving lowered costs and simplified management by running multiple operating systems, such as Windows NT and UNIX, on the same server, or improving the workload balancing and distribution by managing processor allocations within applications and among users on the server. While there are two broad categories of partitioning – software partitioning and hardware partitioning - for licensing purposes, Oracle only recognizes hardware partitioning as a mean to install and license Oracle on fewer than the total number of processors in the box."
More precisely the part in bold where Oracle makes distinction between software and hardware partitionning. Does virtualization's part of their hardware partitionning definition?
    Don't know.

  • Oracle EBS Licencing w.r.t. Oracle Database

    Hi Gurus,
I want to procure Oracle EBS R12 licences for development purpose for one of our client. Please suggest how to licence it?
    1. Do I need to procure licence for Oracle Database Enterprise Edition if I am already procuring EBS Licences for few modules?
    2. Can I continue with Oracle database Standard Edition for development purpose. In client's production environment, we have Oracle database Enterprise edition licences.
    3. How to calculate bare minimum licences required for development purpose considering 10 users, 1 qaud core processors.
    Please guide.
    Regards,
    Bhavesh

    Hi Kashif,
Thanks for info but I have gone through pricing PDFs but nowhere it is listed that do we need to buy Oracle Database EE licences if we are procuring licences for Oracle EBS R12. Because Oracle Database EE comes along with Oracle EBS R12 rapid install bundle but both product are different and for both different licencing is followed.
One more thing, we want to procure licences for development purpose and hence we did not have any oracle sales representatives with us. Please guide if we can have any other option.
    Thanks,
    Bhavesh

  • Incompatibility axis and oracle libraries

    Hi,
I have built an application with JDeveloper 10.1.3.4. Include several Web Services Clients generated with JDeveloper. Besides, I have to include a several "jars" to realize an invocation to axis web service. These "jar" posses an embedded Web Service client axis.
I have read that a single application (EAR) cannot contain one Web service that uses Axis, and another that uses Oracle. Specifically, an Axis Web service calling out to another Web service via a Web services client created using JAX-RPC implementation is not support.
    http://oracledoc.boyko.biz/web.1013/b14433/opensrc.htm
    The problematic classes are:
    Oracle Axis
    jaxrpc-api.jar jax-rpc.jar
    saaj-api.jar saaj.jar
    orawsdl.jar wsdl4j-1.5.1.jar
In JDeveloper, I have not included the jar from axis (jax-rpc.jar, saaj.jar, wsdl4j-1.5.1.jar) and the application realize all invocations (Oracle an Axis) in a right way.
When I deploy de application in OAS 10.1.2 or OAS 10.1.3.4, application fails in any invocation. I have tested several posibilities but at the end deployed application failed.
    a) Including only "jaxrpc-api.jar", "saaj-api.jar", "orawsdl.jar"
    b) Including only "jax-rpc.jar", "saaj.jar", "wsdl4j-1.5.1.jar"
    c) The six jars (axis and oracle)
¿Could you say me as the way to avoid this problem in an OAS? ¿Why runs perfectly in JDeveloper althoug I haven't set the jar required by axis?

  • Oracle Enterprise licence support and update policy

we are planning to buy a new oracle licence but do not want the update and support which is aditional cost...what i want to know is that is it mandatory to have the support and update ..
    thanks

When you buy a licence, you are able to unchecked the support cost. So, stricto sensu it's not mandatory.
But in the facts, it should be mandatory for a production database to be able to get lastest patches and lastest patchsets to fixed some bugs in the initial release, and under some circumstances, to be able to raise SR and get help from the Oracle support.
    Nicolas.

  • No context help on oracle libraries

I just installed JDeveloper for the first time. I am working on an application using the iFS libraries, which I have added to the project. However no context-sensitive help comes up for any of the iFS libraries. It works fine for the java standard libraries. The iFS javadoc is listed in the correct location in the library configuration, but I always get a not found error when I try to get help for an iFS class. Any ideas? Thanks.

  • Oracle Linux licencing.

    Hi all.
we already have license for oracle database , oracle apps R12
now we want our old server to be migrated from AIX to Linux
do we need to pay for extra license
in this case how oracle will charge on cpu based or user based.
"for oracle Linux 6.4 which hardware should be used for better performance
    like intel - {ibm, hp, dell}"
    Regards
    Kaleem.

    Hi Kaleem,
Are you asking about your OS licensing (Linux itself) or are you asking about the licensing for the database and apps?  If you're asking about Linux, others have already answered.
If you're asking about the database/apps licensing, Oracle will transfer your existing licenses (which could answer whether you get processor or named user licensing) but they calculate the license requirements differently for different processors so it's possibly not going to be a straight 1-for-1 swap.
Have a read through the licensing documents for each of the products you have to get an idea what you're looking at - then I'd advise that you speak to your account manager at Oracle.  I've found them to be very helpful in the past and it's better to get it "straight from the horses mouth" than guess and then find out during an audit in a few years that you've been paying for licenses you don't need.. or worse, that you've been running without enough licenses.
    Hope that helps.
    Joe

  • Oracle stream- licence

Is it possible to use oracle10gR2(free download from oracle) for setup oracle streams

I created two databases SOURCE1 and TARGET1 in Oracle 10g version 10.1.0.2 on a test machine (windows 2003 server)
Downloaded oracle streams step by step documents and then configured Oracle streams according to the documents( metalink)
For some reason the data is not getting replicated into the target database. I even troubleshooted the steps as per the script given by oracle metalink.
Can you please send the step by step documents for oracle streams for 10gr1 or 10gr2
