Oracle login

Hi,
After I installed Oracle 10g, I cannot login as an regular user (pcidev) with "connected as normal" nor with "connected as sysoper" but I can login successfully with "connect as sysdba".
What did I do wrong at the installation?
How can I change so that I can login in as pcidev with "connect as normal" instead of "connect as sysdba"?
Thanks.
Anh

I figure out pcidev is your development environment user, isn't it? or I am guessing too much.
It is important to include the specific error message displayed when you attempt to connect using your regular user, it could be as simple as a forgotten password, and it could be corrected by just resetting the user's password with the
alter user pcidev identified by yourNewPassword;
Check the username at the DBA_USERS view.
Or even more, may be this user doesn't even exist in your database, assuming this is a new oracle installation and you haven't mentioned anything about data migration or previous preparation. Please, provide further details.

What seems to be the issue?
    I referenced this link: http://download.oracle.com/otn_hosted_doc/timesten/1121/doc/timesten.1121/e13069/proced.htm#TTREF237
And on the notes it says:

This procedure cannot be called from a Client/Server connection.
This procedure is available only for IMDB Cache.
The cache administration user ID and password cannot be set while either the cache agent or the replication agent are running.
The cache administration user ID cannot be reset while there are ASYNCHRONOUS WRITETHROUGH cache groups or AUTOREFRESH cache groups (with a state that is not equal to OFF) on the database.
What does: This procedure cannot be called from a Client/Server connection mean?
Is this the root cause of the problem or I am missing a step?
    Thanks!

  • Oracle login problem in 10g xe

    hi,
i have install the oracle database 10g xe on the DELL branded machine and the os is windows server 2003 .
i install the oracle login as the os local administrator and it work fine but when i login as the domain user or as the domain administrator the database does not login in and gave me error ora-28547 connection to the server failed , probable oracle net admin error.

Well , Oracle installed on local PC/server using local account and ORA_DBA group created on local PC/server. So user should be added to this local ORA_DBA group , so When they login they get access to oracle.
We installed Oracle on my PC using local administrator, but for daily work we login as domain user virag , so i added domain user virag to local group ORA_DBA , thins are perfectly fine and we do all sort of DBA stuff.

  • How to avoid exposing oracle login password in a script?

    Hello,
How do I avoid exposing the oracle login password in a script?
    Thank you.

Script is run from another server. I was looking into OPS$ but if I ran the script from a remote server I would have to set the remote_os_authent to TRUE. But that might cause some security issue. Is there a feature in the listener I can set so that if I set the remote_os_authent to TRUE, the listener will only let those remote servers I pre-specify? Thanks.

  • Same oracle login for 200+user..issue if any?

I'm in the development work for an application which would be accessed by 200+ users.
If all the users have the same oracle login(same login name\password for connectivity to oracle server) ,would it cause any issue? If so what issue would it cause.
    Can someone throw light?
    Thanks,
    Bhagat

If all the users have the same oracle login ... would it cause any issue? It means you cannot meaningfully audit user activity in the database. Nor can you assign different security privileges to individuals or groups of individuals. Also it makes it difficult to figure the particular user responsible for an expensive session.
There are ways of associating a specific user identity with the a session but these are implementation specific.

  • Oracle login failed.

I'm very fresh to Oracle, here comes a question (maybe very stupid, :-)....)
I'm installing an application which requires an user account in Oracle databse prior excuting the installation. However, I got an error message saying "Oracle login failed" with the particular SID and User name. I'm sure the SID and User name are correct. I can even use the User name to login using "sqlplus" command. Is this a problem of user privilege? Is this something related to Oracle? How can I find out?
    Thanks a lot.

It looks like your application installation process can't connect to the database.
In order to connect to a database, I guess your application installation need to compose a connection string based on your input. Usually an Oracle connection string consist of Hostname, Port, SID and user/pass, did you supply all these?
If you are doing installation on the same server, application could also get most of connection information from environment variables ORACLE_HOME, ORACLE_SID in which case you only need to supply username/password.
You might want to find out which method the installation process using.

  • Oracle Login and directory oraarch question ?

    Hi,
    I installed ERP 2004 IDES.
    1. What is the default login name and password for oracle using Oracle Enterprise manager ?
    2. How can I clear the directory "oraarch" ? The size is already more than 8 G ?
    3. Can I stop oracle write to this directory ? Any impact ?
    Thanks
    Wilson

    Hi Wilson,
    1. Normally you should logon with your OPS$ user like OPS$ORA<SID> . default password for user "sys" is change_on_install and for user "system" - "manager".
During IDES installation you had to change them though.
    2. Your archive logs are located in the "oraarch" directory. If you want to clear the directory, you'll have to backup logs (e.g. via brarchive with -sd option)
    3. To stop filling the directory you can deactivate database logging by running "alter database noarchivelog" via SQLplus. However, i would consider this option only if your system is only for solely training/test purposes and you have full DB backup which can be restored in case of hardware/software failures. Without logs you will be unable to restore your DB to the last commited transaction.

  • Help: FORMS Oracle login screen

    Hi,
I am working on an Oracle FORMS application. When this pass to the user, we do not want to know or to type which Oracle DB they are logging in, but the user name and password.
Question: Is there are way to modify the FORMS default login screen to achieve the above task and allow me to modify the appearance to make it the way users want?
    Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.
    Jimmy

You can write your own "logon"-fmb. start if giving a "dummy-connection", retrieve the SID using GET_APPLICATION_PROPERTY(CONNECT_STRING) and offers the fields for username and password (and of course, the logon-button). When user clicks on Login, do a LOGOUT and LOGON again using the enterd values and the formerly retrievred SID.

  • Oracle Login is very slow

    Hi all,
I have two Windows 2000 Servers:
    1. Compaq Server with one 2.4G CPU, 1G RAM and 30G harddisk
    2. Acer Server with one 2.4G CPU, 1G RAM and 30G harddisk
The software configuration of two server are identical, they both have:
    1 Windows 2000 Server with SP3
2 Oracle 8i ( Oracle configuration(such SGA, buffer size, etc...) are also identical
But I found two strange things I cannot explain.
    1.)
When I local(not throuhg network) login Oracle on Compaq Server, it only takes no more than 1second to login. But When I local login Oracle on Acer Server it takes about 3 seconds to logon.
    2.)
I local login to Oracle on Acer Server, and followed by executing a query which involves external procedure call, it takes 5 seconds to finish that query. In the same session, I executed the same query again and again, it only took 2 seconds to complete. I donot know why the first execution of a query (with external procedure call) takes longer time. It seems Oracle takes some time to load the external procedure service in Acer server. Again the strange thing, there is not such issue in Compaq Server, no matter when I execute the same query, it always take 2 seconds.
Could any one tell me why Oracle on Acer Server has slow response in certain situations (e.g Logon , and run first query involve external procedure). And any solution to solve the problem?
    Thanks in advance.
    Frank

Could any one tell me why Oracle on Acer Server has slow response in certain situations (Maybe that's why Compaq charge more than Acer.

I have oracle datatbase version 9.2.0.4 on solaris 9.
I have assigned sysdba to a user with grant command.
when i am trying to login with as sysdba option from a remote system running windows 2000 server, its giving error as follows.
    ORA-01031: insufficient privileges
I can connect to the database without sysdba option.

Only granting is not enough, the user also need the proper connection. You should read up on admn type authentication methods and specifically using a password file.

    Hi,
jjcdba user should be the member of "dba" group to enjoy the OS authentication otherwise you would need to use the sys password to login to the database. Please make sure that "dba" os group exists and make this user member of this group.

  • Oracle Forms 11g Login Screen Not Appearing

1 PC windows (work PC) is the client so just using any browser to connect to the application
Trying to run a sample form, and have all processes started (nodemanager, weblogic, opmn, emagent, emctl), database listener, database started up, but when the Oracle Forms Services splash screen display comes up, it just hangs and the default Oracle login screen does not appear. I'm at a loss. I moved my 3 pcs thus got new IP addresses via the DHCP network. Setup the TNSNAMES.ORA with the IP address of the db machine in the file of the webserver machine. Can connect directly on the machine, can connect via TOAD, SQL+ but not when launching a form. Any clues?
