Please don't say use thin driver because OCI is required on my envirnoment
Are you sure you are using the Oracle OCI JDBC driver? From you stack trace you are not, you are using the JDBC-ODBC bridge.

Ensure you set your database url and driver class in your persistence XML (or DataSource config) to be the Oracle JDBC driver and the Oracle OCI url.

Oracle 8.1.5 and JDBC OCI connection problem
We are running Oracle 8.1.5 on Solaris 7 machine, and our java application running on JDK 1.2 connects to Oracle via JDBC thin driver because we couldn't make jdbc oci driver work.
When we try to connect via oci with the driver originally shipped with 8.1.5, we get:
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: make_c_state
at oracle.jdbc.oci8.OCIDBAccess.logon(OCIDBAccess.java:213)

at java.sql.DriverManager.getConnection(Compiled Code)
at java.sql.DriverManager.getConnection(DriverManager.java:137)
at JDBCTest.main(Compiled Code)
After we downloaded 8.1.6sdk driver from technet and install it, we get:

I searched this forum for answer and only relevent answer from oracle was: consult README file! Readme file mentions that lobocijdbc.so file is shared library file for oci connection. That't all. So what?
I added the directory where libocijdbc8.so resides to LD_LIBRARY_PATH, and System.getProperty("java.library.path") shows content of LD_LIBRARY_PATH correctly.
nullPlease this is not simple as simple as checking the classpath and LD_LIBRARY_PATH.
I tried the sample program and the result is the same. As pointed out first by Won, putting the libocijdbc8.so from SDK8.1.6 in the LD_LIBRARY_PATH has no effect at all. It gives the unsatisfied linker error. The sample program fails. However the sample program works fine with the libocijdbc8.so from sdk8.1.5. The library gets loaded. But at the time of creating the connection it gives make_c_state error.
Here is my CLASSPATH, PATH and LD_LIBARY_PATH variables
ORACLE_HOME=/opt/oracle/product/8.1.5
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/local/lib:/usr/lib:/opt/oracle/product/8.1.5/lib
PATH=/usr/openwin/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/ccs/bin:/usr/ucb:/opt/oracle/product/8.1.5/lib
Hope you are able to provide better answer then check your environment variables.
THE libocijdbc8.so FROM SDK8.1.6 DOES NOT GET LOADED AT ALL.
Waiting for the reply.
Please Help.

Vipul Modi.

Hi All,
We have jave code, that resides in the same server as the Oracle DB( HP-Ux). It uses OCI driver to connect to the server.
jdbc.url=jdbc:oracle:oci8:@
jdbc.username=
jdbc.password=
These are the properties that had been set. The code was working fine in Oracle 9.i. On migrating the server to 10g we get an error saying that
java.java.sql.SQLException: SimpleDataSource:connect - java.sql.SQLException: ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied.
OfCourse the basic idea would be that userid/pwd is not being passed. But we have not been setting the user id and pwd in 9i and it is working there, but not in 10g. So does OCI driver use the os userid/pwd or something for connecting.
Thanks in Advance,
VigneshNo, we have no such file. In fact i just wrote a simple connection class. The code is as below.
import java.sql.Connection;
import java.sql.*;
class SimpleCon {
public static void main(String args[]){
getConnection();
public static void getConnection() {
try {
Connection con = connect();
System.out.println("Connected");
} catch(SQLException ex) {
ex.printStackTrace();
public static Connection connect() throws SQLException
final String methodSig = "SimpleDataSource:connect";
String jdbcUrl = "jdbc:oracle:oci:@" ;
String jdbcUsername = "" ;
String jdbcPassword = "";
Connection conn = null;
try
Class.forName("oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver").newInstance();
conn = DriverManager.getConnection
(jdbcUrl, jdbcUsername, jdbcPassword);
DatabaseMetaData dbm = conn.getMetaData();
System.out.println(dbm.getUserName());
System.out.println(dbm.getDriverName());
System.out.println(dbm.getDriverVersion());
//setConnectionProperties(conn);
return conn;
catch (SQLException e) {
e.printStackTrace();
System.err.println("SQL error: " + e.getErrorCode());
System.err.println("SQL state: " + e.getSQLState());
throw(e);
}catch(Exception ie){
ie.printStackTrace();
return null;
This particular code works in HP-UX - Oracle 9.i . If we do not pass userid/pwd it usually connects in as OS user, and Oracle has a User id Setup corresponding to the os user.
But the same code does not work in Oracle 10g, even though we have the Oracle User corresponding to the OS user set up. If we pass that particular user id and pwd, it works fine.
Does it throw and light.
Thanks

Oracle Tomcat Connection Problem
Dear all,
We have Oracle as the back end and Java-Jsp-Struts as the front end for our project.For the last few days we are facing a strange problem and although we tried a lot we were not able to find even the cause of the problem
We have Oracle server and Webserver running on seperate machine. As this is a webbased solution , clients can take the pages by putting the URL in the browser. The problem is that the connection to the database is lost sometimes and we need to restart our apache tomcat service to get the connection again. Once it is restarted the pages work fine for sometime and after sometime the problem comes again. Sometimes the problem occures frequently and sometimes rarely.
Please help us as we tried a lot to troubleshoot but failed.
Whenever we are loosing connection, the database or listener seem to have no problem as they are running perfectly fine. Is there something that should be done in Tomcat for oracle connections? Or if multiple users are accessing the database at the same time is there something to do sothat the webserver is able to handle these multiple connections and update operations?
The error messages that we get are:
The network adapter could not establish the connection
or The TNS Listener could not resolve the SID given in the connection descriptor
If the error is the second one then sometimes it will vanish after sometime even without restarting thr tomcat service . But for the first one we must restart the service
All suggessions are welcome.
Regards,
Cochu.Hi,
Thanks for your valuable suggession, but when I
tried to ping from webserver to db server, it was
pinging all the time and I am sure that the LAN
Connection is alright.
Regards,
Cochu.No, the fact that Oracle works at all says that your network connection between servers is not the problem.
When you say "connection to Oracle", it sounds like you literally mean a single connection to Oracle. You open the connection on startup, so if it's stale or lost or dropped you have to restart the web app. Is this true?
If it is, your solution is to use a database connection pool and rewrite the database code in such a way that you get a fresh connection out of the pool when request comes in, use it, and immediately close it in the same scope, returning it to the pool. Scope should be within a single transaction in a single method. You should keep a connection open only for as long as you need it for a request.

I have the Oracle 8i personal edition for win 98. I've installed the software and I'm able to use SQL *Plus. But when I try connecting to server manager to create a tablespace, I can't.
I'm logged in as Scott/Tiger.
I'm unable to connect as internal with the password manager.
I get an Error Msg: "ORA-01031: insufficient privileges"
Where am I going wrong? Is there any other way to connect to server manager?
Is there a different userid or pwd? The software is installed at home and there are no admins involved.
Also, can someone tell me where to find Oracle 8 for windows?Have you patched either the 8i or 10g installations? There is a bug (3437884) that makes the 10g software not able to connect to versions of 8i below 8.1.7.4 - the bug is fixed in the 10.1.0.3.0 patchset. So, if you patch the 8i installation to 8.1.7.4.x you can connect using the 10.1.0.2.0 software. Or you can patch the 10.1.0.2.0 software to 10.1.0.3.0 - however there is another bug (3870317) that prevents any additional components from being installed into a 10.1.0.3.0 home. So, if you patch to 10.1.0.3.0 make sure you have installed all the components you will need to into that home before patching. The workaround for this particular bug is a complete uninstall and re-install.
Sorry for the long-winded response, but hope that helps.

Oracle Database Connectivity Problem.. Please Help
Hi , i am having a problem in connecting my JSP page to Oracle. I dont know how to work from Scratch like which classes to download for driver and where to put them so that it works for me please also help me in writng connection String. i am writing this code but it generates an error.
<%
try
Connection conn=null; // defining variable
Class.forName("oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver");
conn = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:oracle:thin:@serverName:1521:myDatabase", "scott", "tiger");
Statement st = conn.createStatement();
String sql = "SELECT * FROM POS";
ResultSet rs = st.executeQuery(sql);
String name = rs.getString("DNAME");
out.println(name);
catch(Exception e)
out.println(e);
%>
and the Error is
java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver
I shall be thankful to you for your help.
Regards,
AdeelThanks for your reply and sugession. We cannot stop
using JSP actually. I meant while learning JDBC and attempting to debug it.
I have been working with ODBC
drivers and haven't got any problem. Now here you are
talking about Class.... We haven't download the
driver yet thats what i was trying to ask that from
where to dowload those drivers/classes and where to
put them or how to config them . Your Help is always
appriciated because it can be really crucial for some
one else. Any way Thanks again hope to see a reply
from you.That isn't what your OP suggested. It suggested specifically that you didn't know what a class not found exception meant.
You can down load the drivers from oracle. Or you can get them from the Oracle client install - just drill down under the install directory.
As for where you put them, it would be the same place that you put the other drivers that you already have experience with. -
Oracle instant connection problem
In Redhat7.2 Linux,
I used the connetion description as follows:
orcl =
(DESCRIPTION =

(Host = 192.168.66.85)
(Port = 1521)
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SID = orcl)
(GLOBAL_NAME = orcl.hexiong.com)
And TNS_ADMIN environment is set.
But it can't connect to 192.168.66.85 yet. Why?I'v installed Oracle10g Instant Client for linux i386.
And the error is:

Problem in Oracle Database Connectivity in JSP
I am having big problem such as Oracle Database connectivity problem
Following code i am used for database connection. but it throw an exception call class not found exception.
Pls any one can help me. With a sample code for Oracle Database connection in JSP
Class.forName ("oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver");
String url="jdbc:oracle:thin:@172.25.44.54:1521:bbo";
con = DriverManager.getConnection(url,"user", "user123");
Thank youWell i've never used oracle or their drivers before but i'm presuming that you'd go to oracle.com or something and look for downloads. Otherwise you could goodle for Oracle JDBC drivers. Then just follow the instructions.
Again i've never used JSP but if you have a manifest file somewhere you'll need to put a class-path: entry in their referecning the jar file with the driver so that it is availble at run-time.

OS authentication in Oracle 10g via jdbc:oracle:oci
I'm very much a newbie to Java / JDBC and I am trying, but failing, to connect with the database using OS authentication via jdbc, and hoping someone may help.
My questions are:
1. Is OS authentication supported for jdbc:oracle:oci with Oracle 10g ? I couldn't find a general statement of whether it works or not.
(NB.The only information I managed to find, on another forum, is that it should be supported but there is a bug and so it does not work, but the author did not post all of his/her platform details, so the bug may only affect his/her situation. )
2. If it is supported and works, could some one suggest what is wrong with my syntax . I could not find an example in any Oracle 10g/JDBC documentation.
The details are as follows: -
Database : - Oracle 10g Enterprise Edition 10.2.0.2.0 running on Solaris.
Development platform : - NetBeans 6.1, JDK 1.6.
Runtime environment: - JRE1.6 on Windows XP professional.
OPS$ authentication : - the OPS$ accounts have been set-up and we use these successfully for PL/SQL and SQL Plus access.
JDBC : - I can connect to the database with both jdbc:oracle:thin ( linking in ojdbc14.jar) and jdbc:oracle:oci by using username and password, so I know my JDBC library linkage is OK, eg. this works fine :
final String url = new String("jdbc:oracle:oci:" + uname + "/" + pword + "@" + environment);
where environment is the SID
I have trawled the Oracle documentation which tells me that OS authentication is not supported for Oracle 10g for the jdbc:oracle:thin driver, so I have tried to connect with jdbc:oracle:oci driver using the following code :
final String url = new String("jdbc:oracle:oci:/@" + environment);
final Driver driver = new oracle.jdbc.OracleDriver();
DriverManager.registerDriver(driver);
final Properties props = new Properties();
conn = DriverManager.getConnection(url);
but this gives the following error :
java.sql.SQLException: ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied
Other info: - The tnsnames.ora file contains nothing but there are entries in the ldap.ora and sqlnet.ora files.
My questions are:

I could not find an example in any Oracle 10g/JDBC documentation.If you specify the SID/service_name in the url, you are attempting to connect via SQL*NET and REMOTE_OS_AUTHENT must be set to true in the database. If you are connecting from the same host the database runs on, then just leave the SID off and make sure the ORACLE_SID environment variable is set.
You can reproduce the same error you get in java with
sqlplus /@SID

You have to set the ORACLE_SID enviroment variable before getting connection to the database through SQL*Plus so:
export ORACLE_SID=<database_sid>
sqlplus /nolog
conn <user>/<password>
and that's it

Thanks,
KumarYou should confirm that you can connect to the DB with a simple Java class using the url that the code you posted is using.
This will show that the OCI client is installed and executing properly. If you can't connect externally you will need to fix that first.
Is the Oracle client installed on the same machine the JDBC code is running on? -

Fatal error: Call to undefined function odbc_connect() in /var/www/html/waseem.php on line 20
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Is the problem with oci_connect or odbc_connect?
The phpinfo() output shows '--without-unixODBC' which may be a root cause. There is no 'odbc' section shown in the phpinfo() output so I wouldn't expect odbc calls to work.
But if the issue is with OCI8, then make sure that Oracle environment variables and LD_LIBRARY_PATH are set BEFORE starting Apache.
More information on OCI8 and PHP is in http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/php/underground-php-oracle-manual.html

Problem in executing a SP in Java using Oracle OCI Driver...
Hi,
I have a installed the Oracle OCI driver on iPlanet Web Server 4.1. The application has been designed using the Jakarta Struts framework where the dom classes act as an interface between the database and the application(action classes). The dom classes execute stored procedures stored in an SP packages (eg. DDTS_PACK.setContact(..)). Now here's the problem. When a new record is being inserted, the dom executes the 'setContact' stored procedure using a java.sql.CallableStatement. The execution of this stored procedure is successful at times and fails at times. What could be the reason?? Could it be something to do with connection pooling. The default connection pooling class from oracle, oracle.jdbc.pool.OracleConnectionCacheImpl() is being used to get the connection. The funny thing is that the stored procedure gets executed both the time (success/failure) and returns a return status as 'N' when it fails and 'Y' when it is successful.
I would be greatful to anybody who could give a solution to the above problem. Thanks and have a great day.
Regards,
AnandSince the pipe '|' is interpreted by the shell then you need the shell to invoke your command
String[] command = {"sh","-c","find /tmp/reports1 -name " + "\"" + "*" + "\"" + " -mtime +" + strdaysback + " -print|xargs rm -r"};
final Process process = Runtime.getRuntime().exec(command);
You should also read http://www.javaworld.com/javaworld/jw-12-2000/jw-1229-traps.html at least twice and implement the recommendation regarding stdout and stderr.
P.S. Why are you not using Java to find and delete these files?
