Oracle Portal and EJB Web application

Hi,
Can anyone tell me how to make portlets in Oracle Portal from the jsp files which are a part of EJB application ?
Problem here is OC4J is accessed behind Apache so the provider testing url(eg http://localhost/servlet/xxxx) gives page not found error.So portlets cannot be made.
Hope somebody has some solution on this.
Regards,
Mandar.

Hi Christopher,
I am trying to do the same as you have said,I am trying to access the EJB from JSP's that run on JServ.However I am getting this error when I try to use RMI
com.evermind.server.rmi.OrionRemoteException: Invocation error: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: com.crm.Dao.Customer.CustomerDataHome; nested exception is: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: com.crm.Dao.Customer.CustomerDataHome
But the same code runs fine if run the jsp from Orion server.
My code in jsp -
Properties env = new Properties();
env.put("java.naming.provider.url","ormi://localhost/autoglobal");
env.put("java.naming.factory.initial","com.evermind.server.rmi.RMIInitialContextFactory");
// env.put("java.naming.factory.initial","com.evermind.server.ApplicationClientInitialContextFactory");
env.put(Context.SECURITY_PRINCIPAL,"admin");
env.put(Context.SECURITY_CREDENTIALS,"j2ee");
InitialContext ictx_t = new InitialContext(env);
CustHom = (CustomerDataHome)ictx_t .lookup("CustomerData");
CustRem =CustHom.create();
The above error is when I am using com.evermind.server.rmi.RMIInitialContextFactory .
If I use com.evermind.server.ApplicationClientInitialContextFactory I get the following error
javax.naming.NamingException: Error reading application-client descriptor: No location specified and no suitable instance of the type 'com.crm.Dao.Customer.CustomerData' found for the ejb-ref CustomerData
Hope to get some solution on this.

Mandar

    Hi there,
    Have you applied any patches to 9ias since it was first installed? We had the same problem and had to apply a couple of patches to get the portlets working.
    1. Apply the 9.0.2.53.16 one-off patch for Oracle 9iAS Discoverer which takes Discoverer up to 9.0.2.53.16. This patch appears to be password protected and you need to get someone at Oracle support to give you a password.
    2. Apply the Discoverer Portlet Provider: 9.0.2.53.00c patch (patch no. 2595444) which gives you a new discportal.xsl file that actually works. It's this second step that solves your problem but you need to do step 1 before this. This is password protected as well.
    3. As you've upgraded Disco on the server to 9.0.2.53, you'll need to upgrade Disco Admin & Desktop within your 9iDS installation using patch no. 2555265. This is because Disco 9.0.2.53 uses an upgraded EUL that Disco Admin & Desktop need to be patched to use.
    This was the course of action Oracle support advised us about nine months ago. Of course they may have released a further patch to Disco that does 1 & 2 in one go, but we regularly carry out steps 1 and 2 on servers we use and we can use the Disco portlets successfully.
    Hope this helps

  • What's the difference between a web site and a web application?

    I'm stumped trying to come up to a difference between a web site and a web application for myself. As I see it, a web site points to a specific page and a web application is more of some sort of 'portal' to content and information.
    But where I'm stuck is that a web application is still viewed through a browser (is it not?) and a web site can still view content dynamically, making the line between web site and application prety gray.
    For instance, does a web site using ASP.NET or AJAX (I assume ASP.NET is AJAX's proprietary sibling, if not, ignore ASP.NET AND concentrate on the AJAX), becomes a web application because it can retrieve data dynamically and asynchronously or would a website
    using PHP and a CMS be more of a web application because it forms the pages on request, based on the request of the client and its content in its databse?
    Or maybe I'm totally wrong here - what differenciates between a web application and a website?

    This is totally personal and subjective, but I'd say that a website is defined by its content, while a webapplication is
    defined by its interaction with the user. That is, a website can plausibly consist of a static content repository that's dealt out to all visitors, while a web application depends on interaction and requires programmatic user input and data processing.
    For example, a news site would be a "website", but a spreadsheet or a collaborative calendar would be web "applications". The news site shows essentially the same information to all visitors, while the calendar processes individual data.
    Practically, most websites with quickly changing content will also rely on a sophisticated programmatic (and/or database) backend, but at least in principle they're only defined by their output. The web application on the other hand is essentially a program that
    runs remotely, and it depends fundamentally on a processing and a data storage backend.

    https://glossicom.zendesk.com/entries/68161538--Watch-The-Godzilla-2014-free-Online-Full-Movie-HD-Quality
    There is no real "difference". Web site is a more anachronistic term that exists from the early days of
    the internet where the notion of a dynamic application that can respond to user input was much more limited and much less common. Commercial websites started out largely as interactive brochures (with the notable exception of hotel/airline reservation sites).
    Over time their functionality (and the supporting technologies) became more and more responsive and the line between an application that you install on your computer and one that exists in the cloud became more and more blurred.
    If you're just looking to express yourself clearly when speaking about what you're building, I would continue to describe something that is an interactive brochure or business card as a "web site" and something that actually *does something that feels
    more like an application as a web app.
    The most basic distinction would be if a website has a supporting database that stores user data and modifies what the user sees based on some user specified criteria, then it's probably an app of some sort (although I would be reluctant to describe Amazon.com
    as a web app, even though it has a lot of very user-specific functionality). If, on the other hand, it is mostly static .html files that link to one another, I would call that a web site.
    Most often, these days, a web app will have a large portion of its functionality written in something that runs on the client (doing much of the processing in either javascript or actionscript, depending on how its implemented) and reaches back through some
    http process to the server for supporting data. The user doesn't move from page to page as much and experiences whatever they're going to experience on a single "page" that creates the app experience for them.

    I am interested in Netweaver administration..
    1.I am confused wheather netweaver administration and SAP Web Application Server r the same?(or WAS is just another component of Netweaver).
    2.Do we need to administrate all the components of Netweaver(EP,BI,etc.,)seperately as an Netweaver Administrator?
    Thanks in Advance ,

    Hi Malti,
    You must first download and read this document and then read 'help.sap.com' for what is netweaver.
    <a href="https://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/e1515a37-0301-0010-b2bb-99780cb4cafa">Introduction to Web Application Server</a>
    The above mentioned document is a crisp guide to what is WAS.
    Further I got this from the sdn/netweaver webpage
    SAP NetWeaver is a web-based, open integration and application platform that serves as the foundation for enterprise service-oriented architecture (enterprise SOA) and allows the integration and alignment of people, information, and business processes across business and technology boundaries. It utilizes open standards to enable integration with information and applications from almost any source or technology. SAP NetWeaver is the foundation of SAP xApps and mySAP Business Suite solutions, and also powers partner solutions and customer custom-built applications.

  • Oracle forms to j2ee/web application

    Hello all,
    I need help with converting "oracle forms" to j2ee/web application. There are only 2-3 forms. But I needed to know how to do it from scratch. I looked at some softwares available to do it. But its costly.
    Basically the company I am working with, needed all the forms online, so that they can access it using a browser. As part of the development, I am using jdeveloper 10g.
    could some help me out
    Thanks a lot
    san

    Well if you need your Forms accesible from a browser you don't need to convert them to Java - you just use Forms on the Web - http://otn.oracle.com/formsupgrade
    If you still want to convert to Java have a look at the Forms page for more info:
    http://otn.oracle.com/products/forms
    and also here:

  • Oracle portal use in different application servers

    Instead of Oracle 9iAS, can Oracle Portal run on other Application Server?

    Hello,
    When you using JDBC resource in a J2EE container you should use a DataSource that will be an abstraction layer to your code.
    Are you doing that?
    This will simplify the integration to the development, test and production machines.
    You can take look the the data source how-to on OTN.

    Hi ,
    You can create a single dynamic distribution group with the condition to have only the mailboxes in exchange as its members . Then when a person send an email to that  Dynamic distribution group it will get distributed to all the mailboxes
    in exchange.
    Note : Most important feature in the dynamic group is that the membership of that group will be maintained automatically and also along with that we can have group membership by defining the recipient types/OU /rules.
    I agree with ED and also based on my knowledge you cannot achieve your scenario without Distribution groups or dynamic distribution groups.

  • Oracle Functional Testing for Web Applications for Oracle Apps

    I am trying to test Oracle Application 11i and R12 using Oracle Functional Testing for Web Applications.
    In 11i:
    If i open any forms then then the Application is getting crashed whereas it's recording the html events.
    In R12:
    If i open any forms then the Form is getting opened but it's not recording the events happening on the forms
    whereas it's recording the html events.
    Please let me know whether Oracle Functional Testing for Web Applications supports can be used to test Oracle Apps 11i/R12 including the Forms.
    Regards,
    Arun

    Hi,
    AFAIK, there is no official document which states that "Oracle Functional Testing for Web Applications" is certified with Oracle E-Business Suite 11i/R12. I assume it should work with Forms 10g but not with Forms 6i, so it should work (does not mean it is certified) with R12.
    I would suggest you log a SR and confirm this with Oracle Support.

  • Difference between Oracle Portal and HTML DB

    Hi folks,
    I am thinking about using another oracle tool to generate web reports.
    I see two possibilities: Oracle Portal and Html db.
    But what are the differences between them? Which one is the best?
    Nowadays we're using Oracle Reports, but as it is very expensive, we're are looking for another tool.
    Thank you all,

    Hi Sergio,
    I read the suggested forum.
    But to me, it was a little bit confusing.
    I don't know these technologies so deeply.
    I just want to know, if both (Oracle Portal and HTML DB) can be used to generate simple reports in Web?
    As I told you, we are using Oracle Reports which demands Enterprise Edition of IAS. This is very expensive to my company.
    So, I need to suggest some other tool to substitute Oracle Reports, so the company will be able to decrease the IAS version to the Standard one.
    In your opinion, which is the best tool in terms of generating reports in the web?
    Do these two tools genereate pdf reports????
    Please, I want to know your opinion about my problem.
    Thank you!!!

  • Integrating Web Services Manager with Oracle Portal and SSO

    Hi,
    I wanted to throw this out there and make sure I was on the right track and also if somebody can point me to some resources online that might help. Basically, we have OWSM acting as a Gateway securing some web services. Oracle Portal is integrated w/ Oracle SSO (as well as using OID). What is the best way to pass the credentials to the OWSM from the Portal for authentication purposes? I believe using SAML voucher token is the way to go, but I'm not positive. Has anybody done this before and if so, what methodology did you use? I'm assuming since using SSO, we don't necessary want to also pass in the password.
    Thanks,
    Nathan

    I have noticed that nobody has same kind of situation and this is not intresting question. Still we have same problem and I have heard many oracle employee saing that this behaviour is wanted situation. In our kind of virtual host enviroment it would be nice to choose behaviour of Single-sign-on server and I request oracle support to find out ways to enable this option... I would be pleased if some oracle development would say opinion about this mater. Waiting for ideas.

  • SSO between Portal and Java WD application

    Hi Experts,
    I am using CE 7.2 on localhost and I am very new to SAP.
    I need to know how can I get SSO between Portal and Java WD.  I have a WD application that displays the logged in user using "IUser currentUser = WDClientUser.getCurrentUser().getSAPUser()", as well I can use "IUser user = UMFactory.getAuthenticator().getLoggedInUser()".  Both work.
    Q1. What is the difference in the 2 above?
    Q2. My WD application is set to authenticate user.  The WD application is in URL iView.  I need SSO between Portal and WD application.   Is there a way to get this SSO without SAP Backend (ECC), for now I just need SSO between Portal and Java WD appl.
    Everything is in localhost.
    Please advice. Thanks.

    Then I suggest you ask your question in the Web Dynpro Java forum instead of the Web Dynpro ABAP one.

    If Oracle Portal is running on Apache/Jserv, which is the only application server it runs on as far as I know, then that's your problem. JDeveloper uses one of the newer Servlet specificatione, 2.1 or 2.2, where as Jserv is using a very old one. 2.0, which doesn't support the session.setAttribute() method.
    I happen to know a little bit about portal and the JPDK. You do have the option of using the ProviderSession object that is provided by the JPDK PortletRenderRequest.getSession() method. I believe they have a setAttribute() method in there. In fact, if you want this object in the user's session, then you HAVE to use the ProviderSession from the JPDK.
    There are some other configurations you have to set to use this, you must specify to use session in your provider.xml, and you must also set the login frequency on the provider registration page to "Once per user session".
    Check out the discussion boards on http://technet.oracle.com for more info.

  • Showing Oracle reports in current web application with JBOSS as AS

    hi:
    I have installed the Oracle AS(10g 10.1.2.0.2) and the reports services... I have also installed the Stand Alone J2EE Thin Client (http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/reports/htdocs/getstart/examples/Tools/index.html)
    My current web project uses JBoss and I have to show oracle reports keeping the current environment.
    I have followed the steps provided on the doc mentioned in the above link.
    first i did the following steps ( please refer to the text of that readme doc below)
    (//text of readme doc, I have done these steps
    1. Deploy THINCLIENT_HOME/reports/j2ee/reports.ear on the J2EE application server.
    2. Add the following JAR files to the classpath of the J2EE application server:
    * THINCLIENT_HOME/reports/jlib/rwrun.jar
    * THINCLIENT_HOME/jlib/zrclient.jar
    3. Use THINCLIENT_HOME/vbroker4/lib/vbjboot.jar while starting the application server.
    but i cannot understand what is written just next to the above llines in that doc I am pasting those points from that doc
    (text of readme doc:
    The following section provides detailed instructions on carrying out the above 3 configuration steps with OC4J Standalone Distribution 10g (9.0.4). You need to consult your J2EE application server's documentation to carry out the same steps for your application server.
    1. Add the following to OC4J_HOME/j2ee/home/config/server.xml
    <application name="reports" path="<THINCLIENT_HOME>/reports/j2ee/reports.ear" auto-start="true" />
    2. Add the following to OC4J_HOME/j2ee/home/config/http-web-site.xml
    <web-app application="reports" name="web" root="/reports"/>

    <library path="<THINCLIENT_HOME>/reports/jlib/rwrun.jar"/>
    <library path="<THINCLIENT_HOME>/jlib/zrclient.jar"/>
    according to what i understood i went to OC4J which is under my Oracle_Infra directory and then completed the above steps
    after that I ran the command (according to this doc):
    java -Xbootclasspath/p:<THINCLIENT_HOME>/vbroker4/lib/vbjboot.jar -jar oc4j.jar
    the result of this command is following
    06/02/09 14:57:37 Oracle Application Server Containers for J2EE 10g (9.0.4.0.0) initialized
    and then it never comes back to command prompt
    Now after all these steps...i don't understand what to do next and my problem is still there which is How to deploy reports made by oracle reports from my web project links

    I found the procedure to integrate E-Business to SSO, with bi-directional provisioning, but I am stuck with the integration of the next applications, Oracle Collaboration Suite and Oracle Portal:
    1. How to integrate them to my new SSO Server? is it enough with the ssoreg.sh script?
    2. What happens to the users? do I have to manually import them into my new SSO/OID install?
    3. What happens with new users? how do they get created? are they now created in the new SSO/OID server?
    If someone has had any experience with this kind of tasks, I will really appreciate your feedback. Thanks in advance.

    You might ask this question in the Streams forum. You might ask it in the e-Business Suite forum. You might ask it at metalink. But asking it here is not likely to get you the definitive answer you need. I would make sure, before I made such a business decision, I heard it directly from Oracle Support Services.

  • Oracle CPU usage on web application

    I have a Dell desktop running Windows XP professional. (pentium 4, 2gb ram) This desktop is being used for a web app that does employee time cards. A contractor did this for the company and we are not proficient with Oracle, so we need some assistance!
    The web application uses asp.net for the site and the database is oracle 11g.
    So the various problems are:
    1. The system will work flawlessly for a few days; once even a week! Lately, it has not been that good. There are four services related to oracle - two of them are sometimes having problems starting.. (status says "starting" then it will time out, then try to start again.) We have been rebooting the system multiple times just to get things working again so people can login.
    services are as follows:
    ORACLEDBConsole-timeentry - problems starting lately.
    Oraclejobscheduler-timeentry - not currently set to start automatically
    OracleoraDb11g_homeTNSlistener - usually starts fine
    OracleServicetimeentry - have had problems starting sometimes, working good for now.
    2. A few days ago I logged on to the machine and checked running processes. Oracle was consuming 100% cpu, and lots of memory. (~512mb) Also, there were many instances of TNSPing.exe running consuming resources as well.
    3. Lately it doesn't work for over a day. We have to reboot every morning, and Oracle will not "crash" but does stay at 40-50% cpu usage. We think there is something going wrong with oracle services/oracle in general but have no idea where to look for a solution. There are no error messages or clues to what is going on!
    Thanks in advance for your help!

    The excessive cpu usage in oracle is usually caused by code that does not use bind variables.
    eg your sql string is passed as follows:
    select * from customer where customer_number = '12345';
    Your code should be passing:
    select * from customer where customer_number = :BV1;
    BV1 is a placeholder for a bind variable. Whatever language you use you need to associate a value with BV1. All the languages are capable of using bind variables, and once you know how, its easier than the usual :
    'select * from customer where customer_number = '||customer_number;
    If you're on oracle 8.1.7. then you can set the cursor_sharing parameter to force.
    You will add this to your init.ora file and then restart the database.
    I highly recommend you look at http://asktom.oracle.com as there is a wealth of useful information there, including how to determine whether your database is using bind variables.
    Note: We run a web app server here with a database and 2 gb is easily sufficient. We are a development environment so dont get a lot of users. I have had the guys here recode there java code to use bind variables and we got a lot of performance improvement.
