Oracle Portal DADs

Hi everybody,
Here is my configuration:
SERVER1 : Oracle Application Server 10gR2 1.0.1.4 (Infrastructure and Portal & Wireless) for portal development.
SERVER2 : An Oracle Database Server 10gR2
My question:
How can I use SERVER2 Database Schemas as part of Portal development on the SERVER1? A way to use data stored in the SERVER2 Database
thanks in advance!

Hi,
I think in your case, a new partner application (for another portal) can be created and configured to work with your portal.
I have done similar work many times but with a slight difference and I will highlight the difference.
1. Go to SSO-login server and create a new partner application entry. Click Apply, and that will generate the site_id, encryption_key, and token etc. save this info in your textpad or some notepad.
2. now you can use ssodatax (which was available in the older versions and that's the difference. i have some instances of old servers from where i launch it).
to run it you will need the parameters you generated in step 1.
-- you can search for its alternative in the 10g family.
3. now create a new portal dad. for this, one 'decent way' is to go to the application server control console for midtier/ HTTP Server/ Administration/PLSQL properties. go to the bottom of this page and then create a new portal dad. give connect string and other parameters for your schema from the server2.
-- now restart oc4j_portal and OHS. or to be safe, the whole midtier.
your portal should be accessible now!
additionally you should do some more configuration steps like running ptlconfig, etc.
hope that helps!

  • Problem running Oracle Portal to Go (Oracle9i 1.0.2.0.0)

    I have installed Oracle9i Application Server WE 1.0.2.0.0 Standard Edition on Windows2000 Professional Edition. I am getting problems regarding running Portal to Go.
    The installer said that installation was successful. Moreover I have done the configuration tasks mentioned Oracle9i installation guide under post installation steps for Oracle9i.
    But Oracle Portal to Go is not running and returning error message. Are there some other tasks still to perform to configure the Oracle Portal to Go Standard Edition?
    Here it is a brief Description of what I have done with the installations process
    System: Pentium II 500 MHZ with 256 MB RAM and 15 GB Hard Disk so enough space available for installations.
    Windows 2000 professional was freshly installed
    All pre installation tasks are done like paging file size is 896MB
    Important Installation steps and points are as under (Standard Edition of Oracle 9i Application Server 1.0.2.0.0):
    I followed all the steps given in Oracle 9i AS installation guide
    On Windows 2000 Installer never asks for reboot before actually installing the Oracle 9i application server (Chapter 4 of installation guide: preparing system for installation: step5: page 5 of 25). So I manually reboot the system
    During installation when I reached Database Access Descriptor (DAD) for Oracle Portal. In TNS connect string field for Apache listener Configuration I entered the same name (abc) (chapter 4 of installation guide: installing oracle 9i Application server: step2, 3: page 10,11 of 25) as I was going to use for my Global database name later at database Identification steps (chapter 4 of installation guide: installing oracle 9i Application server: step 4: page 12 of 25)
    Note: In an other installation I left the same fields (TNS connect string) blank but of no use.
    (Please let me know if I have made any mistake here)
    When installation of Oracle9i AS reaches 100% installer opens a command prompt and displays
    ORA: 12541 TNS: No Listener
    Enter user name:
    When I enter SYSTEM as a user name it displays
    Password:
    I entered manager as password and then it displays
    ORA 12560: TNSProtocol adaptor error
    And once again it asks for user name and password
    I once again enter system as a user and manager as password.
    (Please let me know if I have made any mistake here)
    After 100% completion of the installation the configuration tools screen appears
    (Chapter 4 of installation guide: installing oracle 9i Application server: step 10: page 17 of 25) and the following tasks are performed
    Net8 configuration Assistant succeeds
    Oracle database configuration assistant succeeds
    When The Oracle portal 3.0 configuration Assistant Starts
    I hold the installation steps for oracle portal for a while and do some database configuration tasks that are necessary (may be some are not) for installation of portal.
    (Please let me know if I have made any mistake here)
    For example
    Increase the table space size of Users (400 MB), and Temp (100MB) table spaces.
    Validated invalid PL/SQL Modules with ULTRP.SQL script
    (Please let me know if I have made any mistake here)
    Installed dbms_job.sql package as it was mentioned in another guide (Oracle portal-to-Go installation Guide- Release1.0.2: Page 1: last line)
    (Please let me know if I have made any mistake here)
    Stopped the database and listener
    And did some changes as was asked in Oracle portal-to-Go installation Guide- Release1.0.2
    Edited the init<SID>.ora file and set the following fields
    aq_tm_processes = 1
    job_queue_processes = 4 (2 were recommended in guide but I left the already set values)
    job_queue_interval = 30
    (Please let me know if I have made any mistake here)
    Also I did the following too (though these are recommended for Internet file system)
    opern_cursors = 300 (in installation guide it is asked 255 but I kept the already set value)
    shared_pool_size = 52438800 (50M was suggested and this is more than that)
    processes = 200
    (Please let me know if I have made any mistake here)
    I started the database and listener
    Proceeded the installation of Oracle Portal as is described in installation guide for Oracle 9i Application guide 1.0.2.0.0
    And successfully completed the installation of Oracle Portal
    There were no errors reported on the installer however when I read the installation log some errors were mentioned at the end of the file
    Please see the attached log file.
    I also completed all the post installation tasks at the end of chapter 4 of Oracle9i Application Server installation guide 1.0.2.0.0 except the configuration of Oracle Internet file system (is it necessary for running Oracle Portal to Go)
    When I run the oracle portal to go the following situation is encountered
    Working: http://localhost/pls/portal30/admin_/dadentries.htm
    Error at: http://localhost/pls/portal30/portal30.home
    Error: The preference path does not exist: Oracle.Portal.Page (WWC-51000)
    (And this is the main source of confusion)
    Working: http://localhost/pls/portal30/admin_/gateway.htm?schema=portal30
    Working: http://et-wks-08:5555/invoke/wm.server.admin/adminPage
    Are there any other guides and post installation steps still to follow to successfully run this Portal to Go or it is sufficient?
    I can also send the installation logs of both Oracle 9i application server (installActions.log and installActions2001-05-28_03-50-56-PM.log) and Oracle portal to Go (install.log).
    If you ask, I can send you the installation guides that I have followed and the screen shoots of the error messages for a detail review.
    Moreover can anyone please tell me if this version of Oracle 9i Application server is ok or I must try some other version?
    Also advise any other if any successful configuration and installation options.
    Is it possible to run this portal to go with any other installation options/arrangements/configurations etc?
    Any help from anyone will be highly appreciated.

  • Create a report in oracle portal based on a different database.

    Hello,
    I'm trying to create a report in oracle portal based on table in a different database than te one from portal.
    I have allready succesfully added a new DAD in the enterprise manager, but how can I select that database in the portal environment?

    Hi,
    Please check the below link

    I think you can get more information in Integration Kits - SAP or Business objects forum.

  • Oracle Portal 3.0 Beta - problem with connection

    After finally getting a clean install of Oracle Portal 3.0 on Oracle 8.1.6 on Windows 2000, I am having problems connecting with the database when I try the PORTAL30 or PORTAL30_SSO URL. I get an error:
    "Proxy Logon Failed - please verify you have specified correct connectivity in the DAD... Error Code 6401 - DATABASE LOGIN FAILED - TNS is unable to connect to destination. Invalid TNS address or destination not listening..."
    The Oracle listener is up, the database is in the TNS names file on both Ora81 and OraPortal30 homes.
    One thing I do know is that when I configure the DADs for a user/pswd and connect string, and enter the actual Oracle password, it returns with a long series of **************** for the password, which is must longer than the actual one.
    I have hit a roadblock and would appreciate any support.

    UPDATE to the PROBLEM:
    I tried everything and then I stumbled upon something. In the Net8 configuration assistant for Oracle 8i, when I went into Naming Methods configuration, it said that I was only using Local. I added Oracle Names and tried again... SAME ERROR. RRRRRGGGHH!!! I had no trouble using SQL*Plus so what was going on!??
    Then I went to check the TNSNAMES.ORA in both the ORA8i and OraPortal30 network/admin directories. They were both exactly the same, with ORCLDEV1 (my sid) defined. Hmmm.... THEN, I looked in the directory and saw SQLNET.ORA. I compared the files in the two directories and they were DIFFERENT!!!
    The one in Ora8i had a NAMES.DIRECTORY_PATH= (TNSNAMES, LDAP, ONAMES, HOSTNAME).
    The one in OraPortal30 had a NAMES.DIRECTORY_PATH= (LDAP, ONAMES).
    On a hunch, I changed the one in OraPortal30 to be the same as Ora8i.
    Then, I went to http://bwood/pls/portal30 and VOILA!!! I got the main page. I then clicked on LOGIN and got the sign-on screen. It has been working so far!!!
    I will continue to post the progress of this as we begin to convert an older OWS 2.1 application to Portal 3.0!!

  • Oracle Portal returns 500 error running under Weblogic 11g server

    I've got Oracle Portal set up under Weblogic 11g.
    SSO running, talking to OID 11g, also running under the same Weblogic 11g server. Tested SSO, it is working well.
    After the install (no errors or issue on install), I go to http://<server>:8090/portal/pls/portal and geta Error 500 - Internal Server Error.
    I traced down the problem to OHS - in ohs1.log:

  • Urgent : file upload / download functionality in oracle portal page

    Hi friends
    I am new to portal development and am working on oracle portal 9i rel2 . I need to know how to put the file upload and download functionality in any page. the functionality given in oracle portal user guide is not user friendly (i.e in the content area add item of type file" ) .... i need to now is their any way to achieve the simple , one button click upload download functionality ..like we do in yahoo mails etc.
    any help will be highly appreciated.
    regards
    Dheeraj

    Well, I do not know the exact location of the document, however you can find the document to do this in modplsql User Guide ..(File Upload/Download).
    I am pasting some hint:
    e.g.
    Create an html form..code something like this:
    <html>
    <head>
    <title>test upload</title>
    </head>
    <body>
    <FORM      enctype="multipart/form-data"
    action="pls/mydad/write_info"
    method="POST">
    <p>Author's Name:<INPUT type="text" name="who">
    <p>Description:<INPUT type="text" name="description"><br>
    <p>File to upload:<INPUT type="file" name="file"><br>
    <p><INPUT type="submit">
    </FORM>
    </body>
    </html>
    Create a table
    (who varchar2(..).
    description varchar2(..),
    file varchar2(..));
    Your procedure something like this:
    procedure write_info (
    who in varchar2,
    description in varchar2,
    file in varchar2) as
    begin
    insert into myTable values (who, description, file);
    htp.htmlopen;
    htp.headopen;
    htp.title('File Uploaded');
    htp.headclose;
    htp.bodyopen;
    htp.header(1, 'Upload Status');
    htp.print('Uploaded ' || file || ' successfully');
    htp.bodyclose;
    htp.htmlclose;
    end;
    You should be able to download/access the file using the following URL format:
    http://<host>:<port>/pls/<dad>/docs/<file_name>
    Where file name is = Look for the value in the "myTable" > file.
    Do tell how you get on this.
    Thanx,
    Chetan.

  • OracleAS Portal 10g: Build Corporate Portals - Worth Taking this Course?

    Hello,
    I am currently building the company Intranet using the Oracle Instant Portal and I am new to Oracle and Portal concept. Would it be beneficial to take the following course? Has anyone taken this course before? What is your feedback for learning more about Oracle Portal / Oracle Instant Portal?

    Thanks!

    This is a worthwhile course, but not for learning about Oracle Instant Portal (which was released after the Build Corporate Portals course was written). The best place to start finding out about Oracle Instant Portal is the self-paced Oracle By Example (OBE) tutorial, Building Instant Portals with Oracle Instant Portal. The tutorial also has links to a couple of viewlets, which you should find helpful.

  • Installing Oracle Portal

    I'm trying to set up a test environment for development in Oracle Portal and I downloaded and installed Oracle 8i Release 3 (8.1.7) and then installed Oracle Portal after that.
    When I try to access my site at http://207.150.83.119/pls/portal30 I get No DAD configuration Found.
    The URL http://207.150.83.119/pls/admin_/gateway.htm does work
    I'm very new to Oracle so any help you can give will be very helpful.

    Thanks for the help on this issue. I created a DAD but below is the error I get. I tried to put in portal30 as the username and password. I also put in portal30_admin for both and neither worked. Do you know what the default username/password combination should be?
    URL: http://207.150.83.119/pls/portal30
    Proxy log On failed.
    Please verify that you have specified correct connectivity information i.e.username, password & connect-string in the Database Access Descriptor

  • Oracle Portal Configuration failure during Oracle9iAS installation!!

    Hello all,
    I have couple of questions:
    1) Iam trying to install the Oracle9iAS files that i have
    downloaded with MINIMAL edition option. Installation tells me
    that it contains the Oracle Portal (just like Standard,
    Enterprise edition). Everything goes fine with the installion
    except that the configuration of the oracle portal configuration

    I can't make out what could be wrong with the ssodbusr.sql
    script!! Iam trying to install the portal schema to an already
    existing Oracle8i (8.1.6) database (SID-ora8db).
    2) Do i really need this oracle PORTAL stuff?..all i want is
    develop/deploy J2EE applications on Oracle9iAS. Unfortunately i
    can't find any j2ee related info in the documentation except
    about the installation of OC4J.zip (oracle container for j2ee)
    which doesn't exists in my download!!
    Can anyone please help me out...why is Oracle9iAS so
    complicated as against the other commercial servers????
    TIA
    Clement

    Hi Clement,
    If you are using 9iAS 10221, You can install J2EE by choosing
    the Core Installation Type, which is the first installation
    type. It's so easy to install Core (which contains J2EE, Apache
    and Webcache). And takes around 15 minutes.
    If you are using 10220, it doesn't contain J2EE. So you may want
    to upgrade to 10221 for your need. You'll find installation
    for Core fast and easy. Hope it helps your need.
    Thanks,
    yuning

  • Configuring Session Cookie Name in Portal DAD

    I have some questions about the proper way to specify the Session Cookie Name (PlsqlSessionCookieName) in the Portal DAD.
    Here's a description of the environment: There are 2 portal servers (portal1, portal2) and 2 infrastructure servers (infra1, infra2). portal1 is tied directly to infra1, and portal2 is tied to infra2. A hardware load-balancer directs traffic from a URL "www.companyname.com" to either portal1 or portal2. The infrastructure databases are kept in synch via a nightly export/import. There is no clustering.
    What should I set the Session Cookie Names to in the Portal DADs? Should they be left blank and thus default to the DAD name? If not, should they be set to identical (both to "portal") or unique values ("portal1" and "portal2")?
    I have read the dads.README file, the notes in the Edit DAD page in Enterprise Manager, and some other documentation and I am confused as to the proper settings.
    Thanks!
    Brian

    It looks like distinct session cookie names are needed.
    Please refer to Oracle HTTP Server Administrator's Guide 10g Release 2 (10.1.2), Section 8 Understanding Modules. Seach for PlsqlSessionCookieName.

  • Where can I add portal DAD ?

    I have two Servers.
    One has Oracle 9i DB and Oracle 9i AS Infrastructure on it.
    The other has Oracle 9i AS Portal.
    I would like to add Portal DAD.
    But I cannot find web page where can add DAD in Portal Server!!
    Plese tell me...
    Thanks...

    The user interface to add mod_plsql Database Access Descriptors (DAD's) is now part of Oracle Enterprise Manager. To access this user interface you should use the following URL:
    http://host:1810 (presuming you have not changed the port post installation of Enterprise Manager)
    The host should be the machine hosting the Portal middle-tier components, and must have Enterprise Manager installed on it.
    Once you have accessed the Enterprise Manager web site, drill down to the iAS instance you are interested in configuring and then drill down further to the HTTP Server pages. On here you will find the link "Pl/Sql Properties". Click on this link to take you to the mod_plsql monitoring and configuration pages, in which you can create, edit and delete DADs.
