Oracle RAC implementation for SJSWS

Hi,
we have a requirement to set up Sun Java system webserver with Oracle RAC.
Please let me know the implemetation details, like how to setup multiconnections/datasource in Webserver console.
any details with respect to this are appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

good point. we don't have a write up yet. but it should be pretty straight forward.
pl. refer to our documentation on how to add jdbc resource within web server 7.
http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/821-0793/gczly?l=en&a=view
from what i understand, you will need to use the jdbc driver and JNDI resource for the Oracle RAC

  • Oracle RAC implementation scenario

    Hello DB Experts,
I have got a very specific business scenario to be implemented.
Basically we need to implement 2 Node RAC infrastructure.
But in this on each node we have 2 oracle instances running.
Now is it possible to have one Instance running on Active / Active mode and another instance in Active / Passive mode.
First of all i want to know it is possible to implement RAC in this manner.
If yes, then for Active / Passive instance if Active instance goes down how to switch the traffic to the passive node? Or basically i want to know how do i make that passive node active?
Would really appreciate some quick response.
    Thanks,
    Darshan

Lets assume some better names for this discussion...
RAC Database MYDB (instance on node1 = MYDB1, instance on node2=MYDB2)
SI Database URDB (instance on node1 = URDB with active/passive on node2)
Can this be done? Yes. But why? You can use SERVICES to limit on which node your application is accessing.

  • Oracle Coherence implementation for JDBC result set

Instead of ORM, is Oracle coherence will support for accessing the data using normal JDBC calls?
If it supports JDBC , what is the CacheStore implemetation for this?
Can you provide me some example how to cache the JDBC ResultSet values and retrieve back from Cache?

    Hi,
I think you mix up several concepts.
    user13266701 wrote:
Instead of ORM, is Oracle coherence will support for accessing the data using normal JDBC calls? At the moment (up to 3.5.x), there is no way to query Coherence via JDBC out-of-the-box. There were a couple of initiatives to provide such features but they were not part of the product, only initiatives in the Incubator, but I believe they have been dropped.
Upcoming releases may bring replacement, although I don't think it would be outright JDBC compatible, as that would imply converting an object-oriented data to result set so that you can convert it back, so it would in effect waste CPU resources.
If it supports JDBC , what is the CacheStore implemetation for this?
CacheStores have nothing to do with how you access the cache itself. Those are internal operations invoked by Coherence itself. Don't look for a relationship between querying the cache and doing anything with the cache store. The only relationship with them is that key-based operations on the cache may lead to operations on the cache store, but whether they do happen or not depends on the cache content, too.
Can you provide me some example how to cache the JDBC ResultSet values and retrieve back from Cache? If I understand, that is yet a third concept. If you indeed want to cache JDBC ResultSet-s obtained from the database, then I have to disappoint you: it is not directly possible, as the ResultSet object is an abstraction over an open database cursor, and hence it keeps a database resource. Active resources cannot be cached in Coherence. You may acquire a RowSet from the JDBC driver, which would be possible to cache, however it may not be the most efficient thing to do due to possibly not optimal serialization format used by the RowSet to serialize itself.
So if I did not answer the questions you wanted to ask, would you please explain in more detail what exactly you would like to do?
    Best regards,
    Robert

  • Oracle 10g RAC implementation running out of space

I have an Oracle RAC implementation setup on a Sun Storagetek 6140 for storage. I have allocated 100gb of space to Oracle but am constantly running out of space during operations. I know that i can allocate additional disk space using Common Array Manager for the Storagetek. How do i get ASM to recognize the fact that there is additional space available to it?

    Hi buddy,
How do i get ASM to recognize the fact that there is additional space available to it?You have two options:
1- The first one is create a new LUN, configure it at the OS level and add the disk to disk group.
    alter diskgroup add disk '<DISK_DEVICE_PATH>';
2- The second one is increasing the LUN size (if possible, of course) and resize the disk.
    alter diskgroup <DISK_GROUP_NAME> resize disk '<DISK_NAME>' <NEW_SIZE>;
    Hope it helps,

  • Database replication between Oracle RAC and Oracle Standalone DB

    Hi,
We have currently 4 node RAC environment and Oracle RAC implementation with 4 Oracle instances. We want to move the one instance and make it Standalone with Oracle database due to availability issue. Thus we will remain with 3 nodes on the RAC database and one Standalone database. We want to implement Oracle replication on this solution, where partial database of RAC environment needs to be replicated to Standalone node.
We will have Oracle 9i database server for both RAC and Standalone machine.
The partial data that we are looking for replication are of size 25GB. Some of questions we have:
    1. Is there any other replication mechanism apart from Materilzed view for this solution?
    2. Is it feasible to sychronize around 25GB data between servers?
    3. What can be estimated time for refresh or Synchronization?
    Thanks in advance for help.

The methods that we are evaluating currently for this replication are:
    1. Multi Master replication
    2. Oracle 9i Datagaurd.
Please let me know if we need to look for some other methods of replication also.

    1. Is there any other replication mechanism apart from Materilzed view for this solution?Streams is another option
    2. Is it feasible to sychronize around 25GB data between servers?Sure. Depending on the rate of change, your latency requirements, whether the standalone database has the horsepower to apply all the changes generated by to other three nodes, etc.
    3. What can be estimated time for refresh or Synchronization?Depends on the architecture, the network connection, whether you are doing incremental refreshes, etc. And it depends on what time you're measuring-- you might be measuring the latency between the RAC cluster and the standalone database, you might be measuring the time it takes to incrementally refresh a single materailized view when there have been no changes, you might be measuring the time it takes to do a complete refresh of an entire refresh group, pulling 25 GB of data over the network.
The methods that we are evaluating currently for this replication are:
    1. Multi Master replication
    2. Oracle 9i Datagaurd.DataGuard is not an option if you only want to replicate a subset of the data. The two realistic options are materialized views and Streams. Are you anticipating that you will be making changes on both nodes? If not, you can use simple materialized views rather than multi-master replication.
Since 9.2 is not longer covered by Premier Support, are you planning to upgrade to a supported version in the near future? In particular, Streams works a lot better in later versions of the database.

  • RAC Differences for Standard and Enterprise Editions of 10g

Are there any differences between RAC implementations for Oracle 10g SE and RAC option for Oracle 10g Enterprise Edition (except CPU numbers limitations and CRS&ASM necessity)? I heard some buzz what RAC for SE have only HA abilities.

We havent seen any differences. 10g is still 10g.
One noted requirements is for SE support you must use the ASM software. Functionally the RAC portion appears to be the same ..

    Dear All,
Has any one successfully implemented Oracle RAC on Solaris 10/SPARC on a production box for SAP ECC/SRM etc...?. Can u Pl share your experience? Will Oracle RAC be supported in future or is it going to be phased out by SAP? How robust is the Oracle RAC implementation? Is it advisable to take the Oracle RAC route?

    Hi
Hey are you asking for the Implementation methodology used by SAP-XI.It is known as
    AcceleratedSAP (ASAP) Roadmap.
The ASAP Methodology has five phases:
    1. Project Preparation – project formally initiated and planning well under way.
    2. Business Blueprint – project team gathers requirements and conducts conceptual design of the solution.
    3. Realization – system solution is built and integration tested, end users trained
    4. Final Preparation – final check before cut over to new system solution
    5. Go Live & Support – solution confirmation, on-going support in place and project closing
The ASAP Implementation Roadmap for Exchange Infrastructure provides guidance for the implementation teams embarking on implementation project of SAP XI Solution.

  • Is RAC suited for Data Warehouse

    Hi,
I have to provide a best architecture for our data warehouse project, as i googled , i found documents about Oracle RAC for Data Warehouse and features that Oracle RAC provide for a warehouse environment, like performane, availability ...
But i see some document that says , Oracle RAC is not best choice for data warehousing.
I want to provide flexible design that don't need to change after years. but our resources are limited, we have two IBM Power7 servers with 32cores and 62GB ram, we estimate about 1 to 2TB data yearly that should upload into warehouse, because each server just have 62GB ram, what should we do?
Implementing Oracle RAC or just running warehouse on sigle-instance database on one server and just increase the resources of that server?

I am not sure that which documents you have read based on which you have got the impression that RAC is for DWH. RAC is a part of the Oracle's High Availability solution architecture. It's not designed to cater any specific kind of workload but to  provide HA in the case of a node or instance crash. And also, RAC itself doesn't give any performance benefit. If you have a database which is poorly performing, it would remain the same or may be , will become even worse after implementing RAC due to too many things being involved in the architecture now e.g storage, network etc. So if you do want to implement RAC, give it a careful thought, do some testing and then only project it. If you are determined to go for RAC and you are a pure DWH shop, I would suggest to go fro Exadata running RAC . Smart Scan, Compression are just few of those benefits which would come with Exadata along with the RAC's HA solution that would be serving better for your requirements.

  • Oracle´s File system over GPFS on Oracle RAC

    Hi all,
I would like to know which Oracle´s File systems should be over GPFS on a Oracle RAC implementation.
    Regards,
    Sebastian.
    Edited by: user12549343 on 02-feb-2010 9:10

You didn't provide info about DB relase and OS.
But probably you are talking about AIX OS (I can't see any reason to use GPFS on Linux for RAC and I don't remember if this FS was/is supported for RAC on Linux (check Certification Matrix for this information)). Oracle is provides only one shared "filesystem" for AIX and it is ASM.
Now it depends on DB version what options you can use.
Till 11g R2 you have to store OCR and Voting disks outside of ASM (So you needed to use either RAW devices or Cluster Filesystem which GPFS is). Since 11g R2 you can store these disks in ASM directly.
On Linux if you don't want to use ASM to store database files you can use OCFS2 clusterfile system.

  • Oracle RAC 11g on Windows 2008 64 bit - blue screen error on both nodes

    Hi Everyone,
I installed Oracle RAC 11g on Windows 2008 64 bit, The installation was successfull and crs_state -t shows all services in two nodes are online.
When executed a select query with 100 sessions( For performance evaluation using Transaction generator ) ,the machine got crashed and blue screen is appeared on two nodes. I restrated the machines and and starts the same evaluation ,bt the same bug is repeating.
Can anyone suggest a solution to solve this issue? Is our hardware is not sufficient ? Shall we need to perform any
specific settings in Oracle RAC setup for performance evaluations?
Is our settings for load balancing is not enough? ( We added "Load Balancing= On" on tnsnames.ora on client for load
    balancing)

Intel Core 2 Duo 2.66 GHz,
    Ram :4GB.
    OS : windows 2008 Server 64 Bit
    Oracle RAC 11g , Clusterware 11g R2 , ASM with 5 raw disk ( 1- votting disk ,1- ocr files and 3 disk files)

  • Oracle RAC 11G - Service configuration

    Hi,
I have been reading a lot of documentation regarding oracle services and I have an ok understanding of how they work. However, I have a general question regarding configuring services using Oracle RAC. For instance, if I have a 2 node oracle 11GR2 RAC on a Linux Redhat server. I have an application that connects to a service I have created. I create the service as follows.
    srvctl add service -d ORCL_RAC -s APP_SERVICE -r ORCL_RAC1,ORCL_RAC2
    The tnsnames contains:
    APP_OLTP =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (LOAD_BALANCE = ON)
    (FAILOVER = ON)
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = server01)(PORT = 1521))
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = server02)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVICE_NAME = APP_SERVICE)
    (FAILOVER_MODE =
    (TYPE = SELECT)
    (METHOD = BASIC)
    (RETRIES = 20)
    (DELAY = 1)
    My questions are as follows:
    1) When I do a 'srvctl status service -d ORCL_RAC', should I see the service running on both nodes of the RAC? Or does it run only one node, then it will fail over to the other when needed?
    2) If I have a RAC environment where I see two services created (RAC_SRV1 and RAC_SRV2). I see that RAC_SRV1 is only running on node1 and RAC_SRV2 is only running on node2. There are two applications sharing the same database, one application is using RAC_SRV1 and the other application is using RAC_SRV2. Am I correct in thinking that there is no failover available here? If node1 goes down, the application connecting to RAC_SRV1 will not be able to connect to node2 right?
    3) In the case of the scenario in question 2 above, would it be best practise to simply create one service and have both applications connecting to the one service? Could I configure the one service to point connections from one application to node1 and connections from the other application to node2?

use option -a in srvctl ( A list of available instances to which the service fails over when the database is administrator managed.)

  • Reporting Services connections are getting dropped by Oracle RAC

My current customer is using Oracle RAC (11g) for their data store. They currently are using SQL Server Reporting Services to connect to it. We are experiencing an issue where the connection appears to be redirected at the server which causes the connection to be lost with the client.
I am curious if this is "by design" or if we need to review some configuration settings to better handle this.
We have 3 VIPs fronting the RAC and they are all specified in the TNSNAMES.ORA file.
Any feedback or input on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
    I suggest you look at:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/clustering/overview/awm11gr2-130711.pdf
and the similar paper from 11.1:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/clustering/overview/awmrac11g-133673.pdf
This explains the basic concept, of how clients should connect to the database, and probably clarifies your issue.
In generall Oracle will not redirect during runtime, only during connection time.
This however should not be of an issue, if you connect to a service. (You shouldn't connect to a SID since 8.1.7 anymore).

  • Performance issues and options to reduce load with Oracle text implementation

    Hi Experts,
My database on Oracle 11.2.0.2 on Linux. We have Oracle Text implemented for fuzzy search. Our oracle text indexes are defined as sync on commit as we can not afford to have stale data.  Now our application does literally thousands of inserts/updates/deletes to those columns where we have these Oracle text indexes defined. As a result, we are seeing a lot of performance impact due to the oracle text sync routines being called on each commit. We are doing the index optimization every night (full optimization every night at 3 am).  The oracle text index related internal operations are showing up as top sql in our AWR report and there are concerns that it is causing lot of load on the DB.  Since we do the full index optimization only once at night, I am thinking should I change that , and if I do so, will it help us?
For example here are some data from my one day's AWR report:
    Elapsed Time (s)
    Executions
    Elapsed Time per Exec (s)
    %Total
    %CPU
    %IO
    SQL Id
    SQL Module
    SQL Text
    27,386.25
    305,441
    0.09
    16.50
    15.82
    9.98
    ddr8uck5s5kp3
    begin ctxsys.drvdml.com_sync_i...
    14,618.81
    213,980
    0.07
    8.81
    8.39
    27.79
    02yb6k216ntqf
    begin ctxsys.syncrn(:idxownid,...
Full Text of above top sql:
    ddr8uck5s5kp3
    begin ctxsys.drvdml.com_sync_index(:idxname, :idxmem, :partname);
    end
    02yb6k216ntqf
    begin ctxsys.syncrn(:idxownid, :idxoname, :idxid, :ixpid, :rtabnm, :flg); end;
Now if I do the full index optimization more often and not just once at night 3 PM, will that mean, the load on DB due to sync on commit will decrease? If yes how often should I optimized and doesn't the optimization itself lead to some load? Can someone suggest?
    Thanks,
    OrauserN
