Oracle Reports Specification

Hi,
I am in the process of finalzing the specification guidelines for developing oracle reports 6i.Just wanted to know if somebody can provide me any sample document for reference.Thanks in advance.

If my memory serves me correcly, I think that Oracle Applications may publish some similar guidelines that you may want to view. It'll be in their doc set somewhere. Sorry I can't be more specific!

Servlet calls to Oracle Report Server

I have an app server (oracle 9ias) which will be available to
the public.
However, I also have an oracle report server that produces pdf
reports from an rdf template but the server will not be
available to the public.
How can I use JSP,java servlets or other means to access the
report server from via the app server and generate the pdf
reports to the clients browser, bearing in mind that the client
has no direct access to the oracle report server?

In your JSP or servlet you can make a URLConnection to the
reports server, passing all appropiate paramters across in the
URL ex/ http://reports_server/reportApplication/rwcgi60.exe?
DESFORMAT=pdf&DESTYPE=FILE&DESNAME=outputname&server=servername&p
aram1=...&param2=... etc. you can place all the report
parameters and values and all the Oracle Report specific
paramters on the URL in the above format. After you open the
java.net.URLConnection with the appropiate connection, the
report is submitted, you can then get any error streams, or
codes from the URLConnection API.

Missing Oracle Reports tutorial sample files

The Oracle reports tutorial version 10.1.2, which I just downloaded along with Oracle reports, specifies where the sample files can be found in the prerequisites section. It says,
You can download these files from the Oracle Technology Network (OTN) Oracle Reports 10g page (http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/reports/index.html): click Getting Started with Oracle Reports. Navigate to the index, then click Examples. On the Examples page, you will see a link to Oracle Reports Tutorial.
There is no "Getting Started with Oracle Reports" on that web page. I've looked around for the sample files for this turorial and I can't find them. Does anyone know where they are located?

Extraction of Specification from oracle reports

I am currently working with Oracle 10g Reports .I need to extract specifications from Oracle Reports which is in RDF format .Looking for tools or API for extracting specification.Kindly anybody tell me from where i can get this tool or API.If no tool or api is available then suggest me how to extract specifiaction from oracle reports.Need it urgently

Look into converting the reports into .REX file, which gives pretty clear textual description of all the report elements.

Oracle report server service returned service specific error 271

I setup Report 6i to start automatically as NT service in WinNT 4.0 server. Encountered the msg "The oracle report server <server name> service returned service specific error 271".
Can't find any documentations... can anyone please help? Thanks.

Hi,
Only thing I can think of is that the User log-in may not have the priviledge to start a serice or some other OS related problem. Or check that you do not have any other service running under same name / or the same port. Workaround would be to use following command to start the Report server:
rwmts60 -listen "server_tns_name"You need to add an entry for the Report server in TNSNAMES.ORA file. Infact for first case also, please check is you have right entry in tnsnames.ora for the Reports Server service.

The oracle report server (rep60_ machine service returned service specific error 186

dear fellows i have installed 9i 1.2.0 on nt 4 sp5 machine
form is running ok but for report it say
Error: The requested URL was not found,
or cannot be served at this time.
Oracle Reports Server CGI - Unable to communicate with the Reports Server.
when i go to services and try to start service for report
it gives me error

i have created a service throu start program isuite net8easyconfig
and tested that service come with success
and then copied that tnsname to 806 net80 folder
but in no vain any help

I believe you'll need to edit your tnsnames.ora file located in \ORACLE\806\NET80\ADMIN. The last line of this file should read something like
Rep60_SYSNAME, Rep60_SYSNAME.world = (ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp) (HOST=SYSNAME) (PORT=1949))
where SYSNAME is the name of the PC Reports is installed on.
I had this same error, and once I modified this file, everything seemd to work fine.

Changing font in Oracle Report in PDF output

Hi,
I have created reports using dev10g(report builder). I can run report from client side in pdf format but I want to change the font (i.e from courier to Arial narrow).
How can I do this?
Is there anyone who can help me?

Interfacing of oracle report builder and java

hi all,
I have build a report using Oracle Report Builder 10g.Now i want to make use of this report in displaying the data in IE using core java.
This is the first time i am using the Oracle Report Builder .
Can anyone tell me how to proceed in right direction?Do i need to have some specific Jar,Environment to accomplish this task?

I'm not sure what version of the product you're using, but since you're just installing it may well be the base version (6.0.8.8.3).
Similar issues were addressed in a patch release (6.0.8.12), which was related to issues with some types of keyboard. You may want to upgrade to the latest patch release and retry.

Using Web Service as Data source (Pluggable Data Source) in Oracle Reports

Anyone using Webservice as a pluggable data source in oracle 10g reports.(Report builder version:10.1.2.0.2)? We need to be able to use web service as one of the data source to create reports.Tried the following and ran into issues:
Imported the wspds.jar fle from oracle plugin exchage. When tried using it received the following error in oracle reports trace file.
04/26 22:27:22 java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: oracle.xml.parser.schema.XSDBuilder.build([Loracle/xml/parser/v2/XMLDocument;Ljava/net/URL;)Ljava/lang/Object;
By troubleshooting issue found out that xmlparserv2.jar in 10g is newer than xmlparserv2.jar in 9i. wspds.jar is using xmlparserv2.jar in 9i as it was developed and tested for 9i only. Believe there is no newer wspds.jar file developed specifically for 10g?
Is there a better/standard solution to use webservice as data source in oracle 10g reports? Does later version of oracle reports supports webservice as a data source without any additional plugins? Any suggestion would be helpful.

Please provide support for the above request.
It appears that Oracle 10g reports doesn't support Web Service as pluggable data source. Is this option is available in Oracle 11g Reports or Oracle Discoverer Or OBIEE?

OK, I did this once and did not follow the oracle docs
If you saved your targets.xml before you started you might save it by renaming it back.
(Double check to make sure you did not miss a rename)
Otherwise, all I have to offer is my rough notes:
1. Backup the file $ORACLE_HOME/sysman/emd/targets.xml.
[oracle@ias02 emd]$ pwd
/u01/app/oracle/product/midtier/sysman/emd
cp targets.xml targets.xmlbackup
2. Modify the file targets.xml by changing all the occurrences of the wrong reports server name by the correct one.
i.e. Replace rep_test_midtier with rep_new (4 places - changes)
Copy the conf file as follows: ( this will named different from system to system )
cp /u01/app/oracle/product/midtier/reports/conf/rep_pia_oracleas.conf /u01/app/oracle/product/midtier/reports/conf/rep_fam.conf
run this script:
/u01/app/oracle/product/midtier/bin/addNewServerTarget.sh rep_fam          (change rep_fam to new report server name)
3.Update the changed configuration .
/u01/app/oracle/product/midtier/dcm/bin/dcmctl updateconfig -ct opmn -v -d
/u01/app/oracle/product/midtier/dcm/bin/dcmctl resyncinstance -v -d
4. Restart the Application Server Control Console
/u01/app/oracle/product/midtier/bin/emctl stop iasconsole
/u01/app/oracle/product/midtier/bin/emctl start iasconsole
In the file:
/u01/app/oracle/product/midtier/reports/config/reportsConfig.properties
Change the Reports_Server_Name setting from rep_test_midtier to rep_fam (change rep_fam to new report server name)

Custom Oracle Report displaying records one at a time

I have a custom oracle report that i've created and what i'm trying to achieve is to get all the records for the specific job code to print on one page. Instead, it is putting one record on one page. For example, job 90822 might have 6 records associated with it. Instead of it putting all 6 on one page it is putting one on 6 separate pages. I'm attaching my statement below. What is the "Vertical Elasticity" of the enclosing frames / repeating frames ?
This problem may occur when a frame or repeating frame has a property "Vertical Elasticity" set to Fixed or contract.
In this case, change the property "Vertical Elasticity" to Expand or Variable.

PDF file created from Oracle Report is attached wrongly

Please help. It is very urgent.
I am using Oracle Developer 10gR2, Oracle Report 10.1.2 on Windows 2000.
I would like to attach the PDF file created by Oracle Report to the Notification sent from Workflow.
I use the following package procedure in my Workflow.

I tried to attach the PDF into my Workflow.
I can see the file is attached (attach.pdf), but it cannot be opened.
The Adobe shows : 'A drawing error occured.' each time I open the attachment.
I compare the original.pdf and the attach.pdf
However, there is one specific difference
- in original.pdf, the line started with '.' (single period)
in attach.pdf, the line is started with '..' (two periods)
Thus the attachment cannot be opened.
After I delete the period, it can be opened.
Question:
- Has someone ever succeed in attaching the PDF created from Report?
- Are the codes above is wrong?
- Or perhaps the DBMS_LOB.LOADBLOBFROMFILE always double the single period on front of the line?
- Is there any solution on this?
Note:
I have succeed in attaching PDF files unless the PDF created by the Report.

The code looks absolutely good. I have the same code working in my system. Only difference is I use TRUE and DBMS_LOB.Session for the BLOB I use to read from the BFILE.
I can suggest one more way to handle to binary attachments if you are on Oracle 9i DB are later versions.

PDF file created from Oracle Report is created wrongly using dbms_lob

I am using Oracle Developer 10gR2, Oracle Report 10.1.2 on Windows 2000.
I would like to attach the PDF file created by Oracle Report to the Notification sent from Workflow.
I use the following package procedure in my Workflow.

The Adobe shows : 'A drawing error occured.' each time I open the attachment.

However, there is one specific difference
- in original.pdf, the line started with '.' (single period)
in attach.pdf, the line is started with '..' (two periods)
Thus the attachment cannot be opened.
After I delete the period, it can be opened.
Question:
- Has someone ever succeed in attaching the PDF created from Report?
- Are the codes above is wrong?
- Or perhaps the DBMS_LOB.LOADBLOBFROMFILE always double the single period on front of the line?
- Is there any solution on this?
Note:
I have succeed in attaching PDF files unless the PDF created by the Report.

How to use lexical paramter in oracle reports

I have a query like,

From Oracle 8.1.5 database, we can use dynamic ref cursors.
With dynamic ref cursor we can really avoid the use of lexical parameters in Reports.
With static ref cursor this is not possible in all cases.
For example, if we need dynamic WHERE, we practically can't use static ref cursor.
But, problem is that Reports needs static ref cursor type for building Report Layout.
Solution (as i know, first published in my post in MetaLink Reports Forum,
thread "Report based on Ref Cursor or PL/SQL Table", 24-Aug-01) is:
in package specification we must have both ref cursor types,
static for Report Layout and dynamic for ref cursor query.
