What do you not understand, or what does not work for, with regards to the UTL_SMTP.AUTH function?

Can't Send Mail: Authentication Required.
Hi All,
If anyone can help me with this, it will be most appreciated.
Mail Version 2.1 (752/752.2)
I can receive e-mail, no Problem.
I can't send e-mail... I keep getting this message: Cannot send message using the server outgoing. verizon.net
The server response was: 5.7.1 Authentication Required.
I've set all my mail accounts as they should be. I've used the Connection Doctor in the Window menu and all connections incoming and outgoing are ok.
ThanksGo to Mail > Preferences > Accounts and under the Account information tab for your .Mac account preferences at the SMTP server selection, select the Server Settings button below.
Enter 587 in place of 25 in the Server Port field and when finished, select OK to save the changed setting.
All other settings for .Mac's SMTP server should be as follows:
Outgoing Mail Server: smtp.mac.com
Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL): I have this selected but isn't required.
Authentication: Password
User Name: The portion of your .Mac email address in front of the @ sign only.
Password: Your .Mac account password. The same password used to check for new messages or to login to your .Mac account via webmail access using a browser.
If changing the Server Port from 25 to 587 for .Mac's SMTP server does not work, are you accessing any other email accounts and SMTP servers with Mail and if so, are you able to send messages with any other accounts with Mail while connected to the internet at this hotel?
You should also check with the hotel's front desk or the hotel's internet service provider regarding their required settings for using an SMTP server that is outside of their network.
If you are unable to use the Mail application for sending messages, you will be forced to use webmail access to do so which is sometimes required and the benefit and primary reason for webmail access with an email account. -
I have installed Oracle 10g (10.2.0.1) on Windows XP (SP2) machine at my home PC.There is a broadband connection on my home PC.I have installed UTL_MAIL package and then set SMTP_OUT_PARAMETER by the following SQL Statement.
My machine IP address is 192.168.0.3
SQl> alter system set smtp_out_server = 'smtp.bsnl.in:25' scope = 25;
Then we run the following script.

SENDER => '[email protected]',
RECIPIENTS => '[email protected]',
SUBJECT => 'Testing UTL_MAIL',
MESSAGE => 'The receipt of this email means'||
'that it works for UTL_MAIL'
END;
Then following error message comes.

Thanks for the reply. Actually I have seen that post before creating this thread. I thought that I could make use of java mail to work around this problem. I created a java class that succesfully sends mail to SSL host. I tried to call this java class from pl-sql through java stored procedure. That did not work
So, is this not supported in Oracle ? Please note that I have tested this in both 9i and 11g , in both the versions I got the error. You can refer to the code in the above post.
Thanks

My previous request had an incorrect email. This error began yesterday and I can't reply or send new emails from my PC, but email is working on my iphone.
I have been doing that. Here is the complete message I get. It was cut off in my initial question. "An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server responded: Authentication is required before sending [R0107005]. Please verify that your email address is correct in your Mail preferences and try again."

Error in sending mail : SMTPSendFailedExcept Client was not authenticated
Hello all,
I am new to the forum,
I have a small program to send mail to Microsoft exchange server.
Now the server is enabled with https option.
Now i am getting error :
com.sun.mail.smtp.SMTPSendFailedException: 530 5.7.1 Client was not authenticated

at javax.mail.Transport.send0(Transport.java:191)
at javax.mail.Transport.send(Transport.java:120)
at SendEmail.main(SendEmail.java:55)
there are two things:
As the program sends mail from a webpage, a user password used for login to the webpage is different from his mail server password, it is not possible to give a username and password to send mail / read mail from the exchange server.
Please give any other option without passing user name and password to the exchange server.1. Reconfigure the Exchange server to allow sending without authentication.
2. Authenticate to the Exchange server using credentials specific to the web application itself.
Configure the Exchange server to allow the user with those credentials to send mail that appears
to be from any other user.
No, I don't know how to do any of that with Exchange; ask Microsoft. -
Sending mails with attachments using oracle 8i
Hi,
Could anybody please send a sample code for sending mails
with attachments using oracle 8i.
Thanks in advanceFor oracle8i there is an example package from OTN:
http://www.oracle.com/technology/sample_code/tech/pl_sql/htdocs/Utl_Smtp_Sample.html
You have to re-write the package a bit to work it with BLOBs instead of RAW attachments, but that should be no problem
Hop this helps,

SudhirHi Mike,
Thanks for your reply, Let me give you a detail on where we are stuck on send mail.
We have a Schema called PORTAL
We are able to send mail from UTL_SMTP as mentioned below in a procedure
create or replace PROCEDURE send_mail (p_to IN VARCHAR2,
p_from IN VARCHAR2,
p_message IN VARCHAR2,
p_smtp_host IN VARCHAR2,
p_smtp_port IN NUMBER DEFAULT 25)
AS
l_mail_conn UTL_SMTP.connection;
BEGIN
l_mail_conn := UTL_SMTP.open_connection(p_smtp_host, p_smtp_port);
UTL_SMTP.helo(l_mail_conn, p_smtp_host);
UTL_SMTP.mail(l_mail_conn, p_from);
UTL_SMTP.rcpt(l_mail_conn, p_to);
UTL_SMTP.data(l_mail_conn, p_message || UTL_TCP.crlf || UTL_TCP.crlf);
UTL_SMTP.quit(l_mail_conn);
END;
Begin
send_mail('[email protected]','[email protected]','test','10.0.0.100','25');
End;
The above code works i am able to send and receive mails.
We also create ACL as mentioned below
begin
dbms_network_acl_admin.create_acl (
acl => 'http_permission.xml', -- or any other name
description => 'HTTP Access',
principal => 'APEX_040100', -- the user name trying to access the network resource
is_grant => TRUE,
privilege => 'connect',
start_date => null,
end_date => null
end;
commit;
SELECT * FROM dba_network_acl_privileges where principal='APEX_040100';
begin
DBMS_NETWORK_ACL_ADMIN.ADD_PRIVILEGE(acl => 'http_permission.xml',
principal => 'APEX_040100',
is_grant => true,
privilege => 'connect');
end;
commit;
begin
DBMS_NETWORK_ACL_ADMIN.ADD_PRIVILEGE(acl => 'http_permission.xml',

end;

host => '10.1.1.100', /*can be computer name or IP , wildcards are accepted as well for example - '*.us.oracle.com'*/
lower_port => 80,
upper_port => 80
END;
But still we are getting same ACL Error Please suggest US
ORA-24247: network access denied by access control list (ACL)

Hi,
I was just wondering if there is a pl/sql code that would do the following:
1. Zip a file (originally generated from DB query written to Unix OS using UTL_FILE package).
2. Place a password on the file.
3. Send the file as an attachment in mail.
Thanks in advance.For compression, you can use UTL_COMPRESS package.
[oracle@db11ghost ~]$ cat compress_data.txt
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
bbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbb
cccccccccccccccccccccccccccc
[oracle@db11ghost ~]$
Below is example how to load file to table as compressed blob. Later you can save this blob to file (pls, search google there are many examples how to do it) and send mail as attach.
SQL> create directory MYDIR as '/home/oracle/';
Directory created.
declare
ablob blob;
abfile bfile := bfilename('MYDIR', 'compress_data.txt');
amount integer;
asize integer;
a_compressed_blob blob;
q integer := 1; ---- The level of compression from 1-9
cursor blob_cur is select * from myt1;
begin
insert into myt1 values (1, empty_blob());
select y into ablob from myt1 where x = 1;
dbms_lob.fileopen(abfile);
asize := dbms_lob.getlength(abfile);
dbms_output.put_line('Size of input file: ' || asize);
-- load the file (txt file) into the blob column and look at the size
dbms_lob.loadfromfile(ablob, abfile, asize);
asize := dbms_lob.getlength(ablob);
dbms_output.put_line('Size of blob after loading fromfile: ' || asize);
-- compress the blob
a_compressed_blob := utl_compress.lz_compress(ablob, q);
-- insert the compressed blob into the table in another row
insert into myt1 values (2, a_compressed_blob);
-- compare the sizes of the blob contents that are in the table now
dbms_output.put_line('Sizes are -->');
for c1_rec in blob_cur
loop
asize := dbms_lob.getlength(c1_rec.y);
dbms_output.put_line(asize);
end loop;
end;
Size of input file: 87
Size of blob after loading fromfile: 87
Sizes are -->

SMTP Send Mail - too many authenticated connection...
Using Outlook on a MAC, and within this last week I have started to get this error when sending mail. I have read all the forum posts and help documents on this issue and ensured that my settings are as described and yet I am still having this problem.
Should I be switching to IMAP to avoid this problem, and if so how do I do that without losing all my SMTP downloaded email?
Thanks for any insight - it is causing me real issues now as I'm job hunting and can't reply to job emails!!!!Yes same problem for me. In the last three days, or so, I will get the random "too many authenticated connections" message. I have just phoned BT twice this afternoon and had great trouble understanding both Indian guys. One suggested he's fixed it by adjusting things at BT to accept "S Client Mail", whatever that means! That however didn't fix it. The second suggested I needed to reset password (easy option that one), until I pointed out that I am having no trouble with password use on the BT webmail page or through my phone. He then said I'd have to reload Outlook to solve the problem. Yeah right, like I'm gonna loose all my emails, settings and calendar to satisfy his theory of "if it doesn't work then reload it". There is clearly a server problem somewhere and OH, how I would love to speak to someone, (anyone), at BT who actually knows what they are talking about from a network/server angle. Anyone worth their salary in networks could trace my activity online and find out what was going on and why it was failing.
Setting POP3 and all others checked by BT as being correct.
