Oracle SGA Real Time Consumption Information(9i,10g and 11g)

Hello,
I need to prepare a comparative analysis report of SGA for an Oracle Production Instance
The analysis would show the pre-allocated memory to SGA components v/s real time consumption of memory by these SGA components. I need to do this for each of following components.
SGA itself
Fixed Size
Variable Size
Database Buffers
Redo Buffers
The pre-allocated memory to above SGA components can be obtained by querying v$sga. But from where do I get its real time(current) memory conusmption in Oracle Production environment.
In addition to above, i need the same information (pre-allocated and real time consumption) for following.
Keep buffer cache
Recycle buffer cache
Specific block size caches
Shared pool
Large pool
Java pool
streams pool
Which tables do I need to consider in order to derive 1)pre-allocated memory and 2)real time consumption for above mentioned SGA components
Please advice.
Thank you for your time in reading this post.
Thanks,
Ruchir

Hi,
Have a look at v$sgastat. Also, use statspack in 9i and AWR reports on 10g. Also, the size of the caches won't grow unless they are used. The parameters you have specified within the parameter file, like sga_target (10g onwards) and possibly the other pools if you have specified them, will show you what the caches can grow to.
For example, you could just log onto the DB and do show parameter sga_ or shared_pool and you will seee values for these. Also, it depends whether you are running in automatic memory management mode - where the sga_target parameter is set - or manual. 9i will be manual, but 10g could be auto. In manual case, 9i, check out the parameters individually.
Also, read the docs about the parameters shown and you will see what it says abotu them. There will be lots in the docs about performance tuning and monitoring of the instance. You might even learn some other interesting facts while reading through the docs...
Hope this helps,
Rob

  • Oracle JRockit Real Time 3.1.2 and weblogic?

http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/jrockit/index.html". I go to the website, and find a software called: Oracle JRockit Real Time 3.1.2 for windows 64 bit. My question is: In order to let weblogic 9.2 works in windows 2003 R2 64 bit machine, SHOULD I MUST DOWNLOAD "Oracle JRockit Real Time 3.1.2 for windows 64 bit"? Or I don't need to download anything? Actually, I just download a file called jdk-6u18-windows-x64.exe. Please clear my question, thanks! One more thing, what is the functionality for Oracle JRockit Real Time 3.1.2? Is it a kind of JRE ?

    Hi,
For more information on JRocket Real Time have a read of :- http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jrockit/jrrt/index.html
As far as I am aware you don't have to install the real time product you can installl the JRockit JVM and use that with Weblogic, I think newer version of JRocket come bundled with Real Time which is the JVM and monitoring and analysis tools. There are still standalone JRocket JVM installs available, you can get them from oracle edelivery.
JRocket is a JVM but optimized for use with Weblogic, so you should get better overall performance.
    Cheers

how can i find this practilcally,At http://tahiti.oracle.com are a few manuals.
At the beginning of (almost) every manual is a "What's New" section that describes the practical differences for specific features from the previous version. There is also one that provides some high level information, called the "New Features Guide" that provides some high level information about newly introduced features, but doesn't dig much into details of changed features.
So 'practically', you as DBA or Developer need to understand which features you are using and spend some time reading the manuals to understand what has changed.
Since Oracle has literally thousands of individual features, and since you are responsible for a subset of those in production, it might not be a bad idea to become familiar with them. ;-)

  • Real Time Clock Error - Check Date and Time settings, System CMOS Checksum bad

    Hello everybody,
Can help anyone to resolve my problem.
I have an Thinkpad W520 (42823FG), BIOS 8BET60WW 1.4        When I disconect AC power and remove battery and connect again, I see this message on screen:
"Real Time Clock Error - Check Date and Time settings, System CMOS Checksum bad
Press Esc to continue or F1 to enter Setup"
Is this a system board problem or CMOS battery problem ?
    Thank you

    Hello and welcome,
It's probably (hopefully) just the CMOS battery.  The easiest way to find out is to just replace that battery.

Here's an example of the battery.  I'm not recommending (or not) this vendor:

  • Difference in select for update of - in Oracle Database 10g and 11g

Hi, I found out that Oracle Database 10g and 11g treat the following PL/SQL block differently (I am using scott schema for convenience):
    DECLARE
      v_ename bonus.ename%TYPE;
    BEGIN
      SELECT b.ename
        INTO v_ename
        FROM bonus b
        JOIN emp e ON b.ename = e.ename
        JOIN dept d ON d.deptno = e.deptno
       WHERE b.ename = 'Scott'
         FOR UPDATE OF b.ename;
    END;
/While in 10g (10.2) this code ends successfully (well NO_DATA_FOUND exception is raised but that is expected), in 11g (11.2) it raises exception "column ambiguously defined". And that is definitely not expected. It seems like it does not take into account table alias because I found out that when I change the column in FOR UPDATE OF e.empno (also does not work) to e.mgr (which is unique) it starts working. So is this some error in 11g? Any thoughts?

It seems that my question was answered here - http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2736426/difference-in-select-for-update-of-in-oracle-database-10g-and-11g

The behaviour seems like it really is a bug and can be avoided using non-ANSI syntax. (It makes me wonder why Oracle maintains two query languages while dumb me thinks that this is just a preprocessor matter and query engine could be the same).

  • Important differences between oracle 10g and 11g

Hi friends, can anyone tell me (pointwise) what are the major (and minor) differences between Oracle 10g and 11g.
Please point me to some documents if possible.
    Thanks in advance

The name of the link says it all: "top_features."
In short it is Oracle's list of what they have for marketing and sales reasons designated "top features."
It is not intended to be, and is not, a complete list of features. Often the features Oracle does not
talk about are the most important.
Let me give you some examples. I have never seen Oracle announce DBMS_XPLAN as a new feature
yet you should not run an explain plan without it. Neither have I ever seen Oracle announce the new
NO_DATA_NEEDED predefined exception. I have listed literally hundreds of new features you will not
find in Oracle's new features docs.
I did a presentation at OpenWorld this year as part of the unconference titled "New Features in
Database 11gR2 that Oracle will not announce." It was easy to prepare a one hour presentation with
little fear of being proved incorrect. As I turned out only one of the features I presented was mentioned
    by Oracle.
You can find the presentation slides here:

  • Error: 0271: Real Time Clock Error - Check Date and Time settings.

    Hello all,
I have lenovo T430s laptop that is configured with Bitlocker encruptions and TPM PIN entry. I don't think that has anything to do with the error msg I am getting but here it is. Error: 0271: Real Time Clock Error - Check Date and Time settings.
Press Esc to continue or F1 to enter setup. I am unable to get into BIOS or even the login screen for Windows 7.
    Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks to everyone for the help.  Just want to close this out.  I had a IBM/Lenovo technician here today and he replaced the CMOS battery.  Upon the change, the computer is fine being reconnected to the dock (the three times I tried it).  So it has been resolved with the battery.  Surprised by the incompatibility claim because I am not having issues now.  Wondering if it's just a USB 2.0 vs. 3.0 thing (and Lenovo trying to sell more peripherals, of course).
    Thanks!

  • Running Oracle database 10g and 11g on same 5 RAC nodes

    Hello Gurus,
Could any body throw light if I can install and sucessfully run Oracle database 10g and 11g on the same Oracle RAC installation setup. My setup is below
    Number of nodes-5
    OS- windows 2003 or RHEL5
    storage- DELL EMC SAN
    Clusterware- oracle version11g
    File system-Automatic storage management(ASM)
After I successfully setup clusterware,ASM on the nodes,I would want to install 11g database on all 5 nodes .
Then Install 10g database on only 3 of the nodes using the same clusterware.
What are your views on the same.
Also FYI... as per metalink node 220970.1(RAC: Frequently Asked Questions) one can do such a setup.
what iam looking for is practical experience if anyone has implemented this in production system,if yes any issues faced and how tough it is to support.
    Thanks,
    Imtiyaz

You could run an 11g database and 10g database on the same cluster as long as you use Clusterware 11g.
The administration aspect will drastically change according to the platform you run on. As of now, it appears you don't know whether it will be Linux or Windows.
It would be practical to support the same database release.
