Oracle SQL/XML Code Example produces ORA-19207
I have tried executing the Code Example shown below which has been provided by Oracle for the SCOTT/TIGER emp and dept tables (http://otn.oracle.com/tech/xml/xmldb/htdocs/sql_xml_codeexamples.html), and it produces the following error:
ORA-19207 scalar parameter string of XMLELEMENT cannot have an alias.
I have looked up the following explanation of this error message:
Cause: The scalar parameter to XMLELEMENT has been qualified with an alias.
Action: Remove the AS clause of the scalar element.
Is there a way to fix this?
SELECT XMLElement("Department",
XMLForest(deptno "DeptNo", d.dname "DeptName", d.loc "Location"),
(SELECT XMLAGG(XMLElement("Employee",
XMLForest(e.empno "EmployeeId",
e.ename "Name",
e.job "Job",
e.mgr "Manager",
e.hiredate "Hiredate"),
e.sal "Salary",
e.comm "Commission"))
FROM emp e
WHERE e.deptno = d.deptno))
FROM dept d;
Hi ,
The reason for getting the SQL error is that, in the SQL there is a closing bracket that is wrongly put after "Hiredate", it should have been put after the "Commission". Correct this and the SQL
will run properly.
For example , the correct script will be like is:
SET LONG 5000
SELECT XMLElement("Department",
XMLForest(deptno "DeptNo", d.dname "DeptName", d.loc "Location"),
(SELECT XMLAGG(XMLElement("Employee",
XMLForest(e.empno "EmployeeId",
e.ename "Name",
e.job "Job",
e.mgr "Manager",
e.hiredate "Hiredate",
e.sal "Salary",
e.comm "Commission")))
FROM emp e
WHERE e.deptno = d.deptno))
FROM dept d;
Hope it helps.
Thanks

Because this is not an equivalent of the original query.

There is a missing </EMP> Tag in the updateXML statement which causes the SQL error. Once this is corrected the code example will execute properly.
Here is the corrected code example:

All of theose SQL*Plus features can be duplicated in Oracle SQL. For example, "GROUP BY ... ROLLUP" can give you an minimum, maximum and total for each city.
You can create a view that looks exactly like the SQL*Plus output (for example, the city column with values like 'New York', NULL, '**********', and 'minimum'), if you really need to. CASE is very useful for things like this, as are some analytic functions. (E.g., ROW_NUMBER can help in telling which is the first row for each city.)
To make such a view, you may find it convenient to do a UNION of two queries:
(1) One that produces one row per employee
(2) One that produces a fixed number of rows (four, to get the results you posted) per city -

Unable to display results of multiple query in grid in Oracle SQL Developer
Hi, I am a newbie to this forum and couldn't find the Oracle SQL Developer forum so posting it here.
My question: How to display multiple query results in grid in Oracle SQL Developer.
Example:
select * from Employee;
select * from Department;
- when I select both the queries and hit F5 in Oracle sql developer. By default it displays in output window.
- How to display result of both the queries in Grid.
Any thoughts on this would be really helpful.
Thanks in advance.
HarshHi Harsh,
I'd say that the Results grid is designed to only show the results of 1 query at a time. I don't know/can't see how it would display multiple queries at a time.
I would suggest either joining your tables to create a single query or opening another SQL Worksheet for one of the queries so that you can display the results side-by-side.
Maybe you could explain what you're trying to do. Why are you trying to display multiple results in the same query grid? -
Why the Oracle SQL Developer show Chinese abnormally?
In my Oracle SQL Developer I see Chinese convert to error code such as "介Ε⑼〩 ".
My Oracle chartset is "ZHT32EUC" and Oracle SQL Developer Code is "MS950" by default.
How can I set the corresponding code set to "ZHT32EUC" in Oracle SQL Developer?Hi,
Does the machine already has files for East Asian languages and/or complex scripts options in the Supplemental Language Support section of the Languages tab for the Regional and Language Options setting installed (for WinXP machine)?

Hi
I get a "LPX-00234: namespace prefix "def" is not declared" when i run the SQL/XML code below. It works fine when i run it without the Extract() function. I am using 9.2.0.6.0.
any help is much appreciated. i am running this directly against the database and I have no namespace set up.
select xmlelement(name "ItemDef",
XMLAttributes (a.oid as "OID",a.name as "df.Name"),NULL).extract('/*').getclobval()
FROM xmlview aPlease ignore i am a fool... declared namespace def: in code, so need to declare a def namespace in code. Used workaround
SELECT xmlelement("links", xmlattributes('link1' AS "xmlns:def",'link2' AS "xmlns:xlink"),

Pl/SQL Error ORA-00904 not showing in Oracle SQL Developer
Hi,
I am new to Oracle and the various development tools available.
Whilst using Oracle SQL Developer we have come across a scenario where a PL/SQL package does not compile, but only shows warnings in the compiler log.
The same packeage when compiled using PL/SQL Navigator shows a much more detailed list of errors, and highlights the real problem.
Why does Oracle SQL Developer not show the following error?
PL/SQL: ORA-00904: "SERIAL_LINE_ID": invalid identifier
Regards
AdrianThere are various settings you can give to messages. (eg, informational, warning, severe).
Tools-PL/SQL compiler options.
Normally, just the first 20 messages are displayed.
Either change code to get rid of warning messages, or change settings to ignore informational and warning messages.
P.S. There is a dedicated sqldeveloper forum where your question should really have been posted.

Hi, omniscient all!
I have a code sample where I try to request some URL from an inactive server:
declare
l_text varchar2(32000);
begin
l_text := utl_http.request('http://inactive.url:7777');
exception
when others then
declare
l_errcode number := utl_http.get_detailed_sqlcode;
begin
dbms_output.put_line(l_errcode);
dbms_output.put_line(sqlerrm(l_errcode));
end;
end;
/When I run it in Oracle SQL Developer it shows:
anonymous block completed
-12541
ORA-12541: TNS:no listenerWhen I run it in the APEX 4.0 SQL Commands window it shows:
-29263
ORA-29263: HTTP protocol error
Statement processed.The question is: why?
In real world, I need to make a HTTP POST request (no problem) and catch some exceptions. But instead of the usual ORA-12541 error APEX throws an ORA-29261 one.Any thoughts?

Oracle error message code 1653 op 4, ORA-01653: unable to extend table
Hi
Our application use Oracle 9i as database. I modified one of tables and try to convert it from this application, then I got an Oralce 1653 error as followings:
Creating Table SAMPLE_T
Copying data from SAMPLE to SAMPLE_T
Unable to move data from table 'SAMPLE' to table 'SAMPLE_T'
Oracle error message code 1653 op 4, ORA-01653: unable to extend table SAND.SAMPLE_T by 1024 in tablespace SAMPLE_RESULT
I suspect the tablespace SAMPLE_RESULT is not big enough and also can not extended automatically, but not sure if it is right or there maybe other reasons behind this error.
Any idea?
Thanks
LiLets try .....
SQL> select tablespace_name,sum(bytes)/1024 from dba_free_space where tablespace_name='USERS' group by tablespace_name;
TABLESPACE_NAME SUM(BYTES)/1024
