Oracle VM Manager 3.1.1, "launch console" doesn't launch console
Hi Guys
VM Management console shows the Virtual Machine in running status. However, while trying to launch the the console, firefox(10.0.5) always popups a window asking whether I want to download "ovm_rasproxy-ws.jnlp"
OS: Oracle linux 64bit
Firefox 10.0.5
I have installed the following packages already
ovm-console-1.0.0-2.i386.rpm
ovm-console-1.0.0-2.x86_64.rpm
tightvnc-java-1.3.9-3.noarch.rpm
and installed java using
yum install java
What could be wrong?
regards,
raj
Dave wrote:
Thats as designed, you need java installed, in particular, Java webstart is in charge of taking that jnlp and launching the console applet.
You may need to install java icetea or whatever opensource flavor is available on your workstation.Hello Dave
Out of curiosity I tried to access the console from Internet Explorer and it worked :). As far I could access the console from a 3rd machine, which in my case my Windows 7 desktop, I think I will stop worrying about not able to access the console from linux :D

Java console doesn't launch when starting Java Web Start app from Firefox
Updated my Linux desktop from RHEL to Fedora 12 with resultant upgrade of Firefox to 3.5.9 and now when I launch our Java Web Start application, no Java console appears. The Java Control Panel still shows "Show Console" as set. My app uses Java 1.5 which I have installed on my desktop.
What do I do to properly configure my browser/desktop to support use of the Java console?
Please help, I need to debug our app!
IlaneIlaneMarie wrote:
..Please help, I need to debug our app!Cannot tell you the answer to your FF hassles (because I have no idea why you're seeing that behaviour(1)), but note that you might be able side-step FF by launching a JWS app. using the javaws tool directly from the command line or an Ant build file.
1) Though you might try rebooting the machine if any installation/configuration changes have occurred since last boot.
Also note that many problems with JWS apps. can be sorted be checking the JNLP using JaNeLA. -
Cannot login as sysdba in Oracle Enterprise Management Console
Hi,
I have recently installed Oracle 9.2.0.4 in Red Hat Linux 9.
I ran "oemapp console" to launch the Oracle Enterprise Manager Console Standalone. However, everytime I tried to login as:
user: sys
password: <sys password>
connect as: sysdba
I always get ORA-01031: insufficient privileges.
The Oracle database where I cannot connect as sysdba in OEM was created MANUALLY.
However, I can successfully login to OEM as sysdba if the database was created using Database Configuration Assistant...
So I might have missed out some configurations when I creasted the database MANUALLY...
any ideas??
Thanks in Advance
Regards
PrasannaHi there once more,
Of course it is possible that user system has the same problems as user sys (insufficient privs)....
In that case try to log on as internal/pwd@dbname as sysdba to perform the trick.
Good luck!

Oracle VM Manager 3.0 - Virtual Machine Console Access
Does anybody else out there seem to have problems launching the console to get into a VM Guest? When we do, we get the login screen and then nothing. It doesn't appear to be firewall related. We had similiar issues in 2.2.
Any tricks on this?user11899891 wrote:

We had similiar issues in 2.2.There is no direct VNC access between your client and the Oracle VM Servers any more. Ensure you have port 15901 open from the client desktop to the Oracle VM Manager machine and that you have all the VNC ports open from Oracle VM Manager to the Oracle VM Servers. We now proxy VNC via the Manager for improved security and simpler configurations.
Also, you will still need to install the tightvnc-java RPM separately, as described in the documentation, to ensure the Java VNC console is installed. This needs to be installed on your Oracle VM Manager server. -
Unable to log-in in Oracle Identity Manager Design Console
Hello,
I successfully installed OIM9.1.0.1 Identity Manager on Jboss4.2.3.GA App server and could login to OIM using http://llocalhost:8080/xlWebApp on my window Server 2003 system without any problem.
Then I installed the Design Console on my window XP system. However, after successfully installing the Design Console, I could not login using the xelsysadm user ID.
I checked to make sure that xlconfig.xml contains the right URL file under oim_designConsole directories.
The error I get from the Design Console login window is:

In the dos-command window, I got the error:

Problem with console in Oracle VM Manager
I have installed Oracle VM 3.0.3 and Oracle VM Manager 3.0.3 is install on Oracle LINUX 5.6. I cannot get the console to work from either the Oracle VM Manager server itself using firefox or remotely from Windows running IE or Chrome. After looking at version posts I have installed tightvnc-java-1.3.9 and ovm-console-1.0.0. The symptoms are different locally and remotely. First locally on the OVM Manager server with firefox. I click on console and a pop up asks if I want to run ovm_rasproxy-ws.jnlp click OK and things go crazy, multiple tabs open and keeps going until I kill firefox or the server runs out of resources. On the remote PC I click console and things just hang and nothing happens. Checked firewall settings, iptables is not running, I can telnet to port 15901.
Any ideas
Richardmaybe this will help
local ( oracle vm manager )
ovm_rasproxy-ws.jnlp --> need open by javaws . search the javaws path . or maybe you can install sun java version 7 1st . remote pc
need install realvnc and java jre ( try install java version 7 )
version 3.0.3 - for IE need IE 9 and above. -
Oracle 8i: Oracle enterprise manager console
Dear all,
I installed oracle 8i (8.1.6) server on linux and client on my own NT
machine. I had no problem to access the database using sqlplus and DBA
studio. I also configured oracle management server and tried to using
Oracle Enterprise Manager Console. Also, there was no problem to discover
the node and to ping agent. But, when I tried to connect to the database,
it gave me the following error message: "ORA-12545: connect failed because
target host or object does not exit". Can someone help me out?
Thanks.
Deweiadd or drop users, Using GUI tools could be sometime dangerous.
You can always use performance diagnostic (oracle provided) to have performance stats in graphical display.
You can also use EM Grid Control (10g) in order to maintain 8i and 9i with 10g EM Grid control.
You need to install an agent on those database in order to communicate with 8i and 9i.

Oracle Enterprise Manager Console Login issue
HI Guys,
I have installed Oracle 10g on my Windows 7 64 bit system and have trouble running Oracle Enterprise Manager Console.
When I open Oracle Enterprise Manager Console it prompts me for a Hostname and SID parameters. For which I have given my System name as the parameter and orcl as the SID.
Then I get an error saying that " Failed to parse tnsnames.ora file ServiceAliasException: 11 "
Please Help!!
Thank you!!
KarthikThe dbconsole needs to be configured, assuming your database instance is up and running ...

Oracle Enterprise Manager Console Sessions
I do apologize if this is posted in the incorrect location. I have Oracle Enterprise Manager Console open and i'm within instances\Sessions. When I first log in there are 9 total active sessions. 1 is mine with program java.exe which is OEMC. I have a website that calls a stored procedure. It will return either a string or nothing depending on if there is a row in the table. That is the only call that is being made. This executes on page load. As soon as I go to this page and it loads I check OEMC again and now I have 5 new INACTIVE sessions with program w3wp.exe. Why is there 5 when i'm only making 1 call to the database?
Here is the c# code i'm using on my master page. The page that is calling the master page only has text there is nothing in the code behind for that page.
OracleParameter pMsg;
OracleConnection conn = new OracleConnection(ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["strDB"].ConnectionString);
OracleCommand command = new OracleCommand("GetMsg", conn);
command.CommandType=CommandType.StoredProcedure;
pMsg = command.Parameters.Add("PMSG", OracleDbType.Varchar2, 4000);
pMsg.Direction = ParameterDirection.Output;
conn.Open();
command.ExecuteNonQuery();
string sMsg = Convert.ToString(pMsg.Value);
if (sMsg.Length > 1)
litMsg.Text = "** " + sMsg + " **";
conn.Close();
conn.Dispose();
command.Dispose();
Thank you for any helpI think I figured out what is going on. I think it's the connection pooling that is creating these 5 connections. When I turned pooling off it created 1 connection when I was on that page and then when I exited the connection was gone as well. My question now is are these 5 connections for the entire site? Meaning that it will server anyone user to my site?
If I have an open connection object later on in my code does it skip this process and just go to the connection pool?
Thanks -

This problem occur when i run version 10.2 of Console Enterprise Manager
This a very funny error but took me a lot tries and errors to solve it !
I'ts related to the syntax of an entry defining an SID in the tnsnames.ora. This an oracle bug for sure
Here is an entry in my tnsnames.ora
Then why does posted example below NOT contain any "SID" entry?
mydb.world =
*(DESCRIPTION =*
(ADDRESS_LIST =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = myoraclehost)(PORT = 1521))
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SERVER = DEDICATED)
(SERVICE_NAME = mydb)
At first look this entry is valid. At least SHOULD BE VALID an understood by oracle tnsnames interpreter
After a couple of tries, i finally found that there should be at least one space between the begining of the line where figure out the description keyword (DESCRIPTION
I've corrected the problem by inserting a space before this keyword.

As I can solve this problem, not to reinstall everything again
thanksNot sure if I understand your issue correctly. Your deployment failed during the installation and you have started the servers and trying to login?
When installing OIM in a clustered WLS domain, the docs specify various cluster configurations needed to be completed in the WLS Admin Console before running the OIM installer. These steps DO NOT include starting up of the first managed server. In fact, if you start up the managed server then you may very well run into deployment issues after the OIM application is built. Instead, when installing OIM, the installer detects that not all nodes are on-line and so will queue the deployment for later. Deployment then takes place in later steps when you are instructed to restart the app server and start managed nodes.
Thus was your managed server running when you were doing the installation? That has caused the issue. I would suggest to dump this domain (save the .xldatabasekey) if you don't wanna to dump the database part and start the installation again BUT don't start the managed server while doing the installation.

I have installed Oracle VM Manager 3.1.1, and two Oracle VMS servers; all seems to have gone pretty well after some learning curve. After success here, I created Clone of the most recent PeopleTools 8.5.2 and PeopleSoft HCM templates, and was able to start those machines. (Or at least, the Virtual Machine status shows "Running..." - read on.)
However, when I try to launch the console, I get no success. First, when accessing the VMM server over HTTPS (port 7002), Java doesn't even try to start. Instead, basically, I get a screen blink and nothing else when I try to Launch Console from HTTPS. But when using HTTP:myVMM:7001, I get further. The Java logo appears briefly, and then I get "Application Error - Unable to launch the application" dialog. When I click on Details, I see the following under the Exception tab:
JNLParseException[ Could not parse launch file. Error at line 0.]

Looking further into this, the .jnlp that's presented to JAVA by Launch Console is zero bytes in length. What might cause the .jnlp file to be empty?Thank you very much for your rapid reply, SPA2! It's encouraging!
You named the file correctly, and there is only one ovm_rasproxy-ws.jnlp on the system. It is at /u01/app/oracle/ovm-manager-3/machine1/base_adf_domain/servers/AdminServer/tmp/_WL_user/ovm_core/tgzc2b/war/ovm_rasproxy-ws.jnlp. It is not empty - has a size of 1028 bytes, and the contents are listed at the bottom of this message.
I don't know how to start the vncviewer directly from the OVM Manager machine. I did install the package (twice, in fact... and the second time stated "package tightvnc-java-1.3.9-3.noarch is already installed" There are no executables in the tightvnc-java-1.3.9-3.noarch.rpm package, and I have not found indication of what the URL would be. Can you help with that?
Trying to find the version of Java from http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=2&cad=rja&ved=0CCwQFjAB&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.java.com%2Fen%2Fdownload%2Finstalled.jsp&ei=cFyOUL6OHpHo8QSrn4GIBg&usg=AFQjCNH6zuZGOL1prgUuefMNfg4eSpEOjQ I see "Something is wrong. Java is not working." So I uninstalled and reinstalled Java. Now it is Java 7 Update 9.
Also - to further check this out, I did Save instead of Open from Firefox (IE does not give that option). Firefox saved a 0 byte file. I really appreciate the help.

I opened the SR but still issues has n't fixed. I did all steps mentioned in TZ and etc according to metalink.
Please suggest.
ThanksThis is expected behavious. It is because Enterprise Manager cannot run with the new server name. You can either go through loads to change the config files or simply drop and recreate the console.
