Oracle9i for Linux/390 and Oracle9i for z/Linux
Hi,
For those who asked about testing on SLES7 and getting a trial copy of SLES7 (since it now costs money), apparently SuSE will furnish trial copies of their distribution. They can be obtained through the SuSE sales rep.
Barry
I too have managed to get oracle installed on RedHat 2.4.9-17 kernel (Linux/390). However, I am kinda stuck there - I am completely new to Oracle. Is there some basic literature available on things like how to see the database schema (I ran the "@mkdb" cmd in the installation process, and I guess that created some sample database)? or how to look at the table data? I tried the following:
$ sqlplus /nolog
SQL*Plus: Release ...
(c) Copyright ...
SQL> connect scott/tiger@p901_tcp
Connected
SQL> select * from dba_users
2 .
SQL> help
SP2-0171: HELP not accessible
SQL> quit
Disconnected from Oracle9i Enterprise Edition ...
$
Any pointers? thanx,

SSL does not work between OS 390 and windows.
I am repeatedly getting the following error.
handshake_failure (no cipher suites in common)
This happens only between MVS and other platforms.
I believe it is because of the different character encodings between the two. Can somebody suggest me a solution to this?
Please help...
Regards,
MohanHi Mohan,
When you have DSA-based certificates you may face this type of error "no cipher suites in common".
As by default certificates created with keytool use DSA public keys. To interact with IE or Navigator, you should create certificates that use RSA-based keys. TO do this you need to specify the -leyalg RSA option when using keytool. For example:
keytool -genkey -alias duke -keystore testkeys -keyalg rsa
Hope this will help you.

Anil.

Information on Weblogic support for TANDEM
Dear all,
I would like to know whether Weblogic supports Tandem with Guardian OS. I need
to integrate applications in TANDEM, IBM OS/390 and Windows OS.
Please let me know if this possible.
Regards,
Virinchi K V NS-23167: The support for Parlay X comes from Wysdom's MAP-OS 5.3 based on the BEA
WebLogic Platform 8.1 and not from BEA itself:

Recommended database initialization parameters databases for OBIEE
Hi ,
We are implementing OBIEE. We created 11gR1 (11.1.0.7) databases - one for datawarehouse and second for ETL repository. Can anyone please suggest the recommended database initialization parameters for the same. I searched metalink and got for EBS (11i/R12) and not for OBIEE.
Also, if you have any best practices documents for OBIEE, please provide the link.
Thanks in advance for your helpYou need to look for OBIA (Apps) not OBIEE:

Weblogic and Db2 UDB V8 64 bit
We are planning to migrate our db2 udb instance to V8.2 64 bit on SunOS. Currently we are on DB2 V81 32 bit using weblogic. We'd like to know what are the Weblogic Versions that are certified by BEA to support on db2 udb V8.2 32 and 64 bit instances on SunOS. And how to get weblogic to talk to Db2 UDB V8.2 64 bit instances?
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks a lot.

LiThe BEA WebLogic Type 4 JDBC driver for DB2 (the "DB2 driver") supports:
DB2 Universal Database (UDB) 7.1, 7.2, and 8.1 on Windows NT, Windows 2000,
Windows 2003, Windows XP, UNIX, Linux, and Linux/s390 via DRDA
DB2 6.1 and DB2 UDB 7.1 running on OS/390 and z/OS via DRDA
DB2 UDB V4R5, V5R1, and V5R2 running on iSeries and AS/400
Note: This documentation uses the following terms to describe the different DB2 versions:
"DB2 UDB" refers to all versions of DB2 running on Windows, UNIX, and Linux/s390 platforms
"DB2 OS/390" refers to all versions of DB2 on OS/390 and z/OS platforms
"DB2 iSeries" refers to all versions of DB2 on iSeries and AS/400

Problem in deploying EJBs (More than 390) in weblogic-BEA says JDK issue!!!
Our application had 390 EJBs before the current build. It was running fine on Weblogic 6.1-SP4 with JDK 1.3.1_08.
In the current build, 3 EJBs were introduced and the Weblogic server started giving deployment problems. We then came across the Weblogic Bug stating the magic Number of 390 and delegating it to a SUN Bug. But, contrary to the SUN bug which says of a OutofMemory issue, we were not getting any OutOfMemory error.
Then, just to test the 390 number, we cut downed on the number of EJBs reducing the number to 388, in a test environment. EJBs got deployed without problem. Then we added 3 EJBs (increasing the EJB count to 391), and Weblogic server started giving Deployment problem in a EJB which was one of the 388 that were running fine earlier. But, now also there was no OutOfMemory error. Then we removed one of the newly added EJBs to bring the EJB count to 390. The Weblogic deployed the EJBs without error(even the one which was giving problem when EJB count was 391).
So, 390 seems to be the number but, contrary to BEA problem ID: 035884 which delegates the problem to SUN Bug ID:4390238 (Incidentally SUN has closed this bug as Non-reproducable), we are not getting any OutOfMemory error.
My questions to the JAVA community are:
1)Is the problem really related to JDK or Weblogic?
2)If it's a problem with JDK, then what should be done to fix it?

Bug ID:4390238 (Incidentally SUN has closed this bug
as Non-reproducable), we are not getting any
OutOfMemory error.Did you check the server logs? There might be an OutOfMemoryError logged.
My questions to the JAVA community are:
1)Is the problem really related to JDK or Weblogic?Apparently, the problem is with the Weblogic. Did you try deploying the same number on some higher version of Weblogic? (7.0 for instance)
2)If it's a problem with JDK, then what should be
done to fix it?Check the bug database for the same bug id. There is a workaround posted. The evaluation comments are also hinting at using the suggested VM options.

6500 ,IP load balancing, VIPA OS/390
I have a HOST with OS/390 and three OSA Fastethernet
and I have define a VIPA. These Three OSA are conected to a 6500 (three differen ports).
VIPA is a Virtual IP Adrres, that I can reach through any OSA adapter.
How can I do if I wanted to balance IP traffic from
6500 to HOST?. Now all my IP traffic is getting
into the host only through one OSA adapter.
Thanks in advance.Hi Miguel,
What routing protocols are you using (host/network)? The OSPF OMPROUTE server in z/OS CS IP makes use of advanced OSPF V2 techniques for improving availability and performance. For example, it can balance the connection load among up to four alternative routes if the costs of the routes are equal (equal cost multipath). It can also interact with VIPA, whether using RIP or OSPF, to ensure that an IP route is always available to host applications as long as at least one interface to the network is active.
There's also a MULTIPATH keyword in the IPCONFIG parameters of the TCPIP profile that allows enables multipath selection for outbound traffic.
I also suggest you look at the following links for more info regarding the above:

Changing IP Address and ports in Directory Server 5.1 SP 4 and 5.2 SP4
I have installed multiple instance of Sun Directory Server 5.1 and 5.2 on ports 389 and 390,now I want to change the IP Address and ports, I am able to change the directory server port from 389 by editing the dse.ldif file, now I want to change the port 390 and the IP address same as directory server, can someone expert from the forum guide me.
Thanks in Advance.
Mukesh Kumar1) I don't know what you've typed in when installing... but I've never seen that message. Are you using any language specific characters ?
Do you get the error after this screen ?
<b>
The suffix is the root of your directory tree. You may have more than
one suffix.
Suffix [dc=sun,dc=com]:
</b>
If yes, then this means that the value you typed in is not a valid DN... and you must enter a valid one.
2)The Directory Server is installed under /usr/iplanet but the database is under /var/iplanet/ds5 and configuration is under /etc/iplanet/ds5 ...
You can use symbolic links if you want to move things around.
3) You mean you downloaded the tar.gx file of iDS 5.1 and install it on Solaris 9... No problem, I do this every day. As long as you have right to create directories and files, you should be able to install as anyone. If not, you should install as root and then let the server run as a special user.
4) Solaris 9 comes with iDS5.1 packages already installed. But the server is not configured at all.
Running directoryserver setup allows you to configure it and create the database, accounts...
Running directoryserver uninstall remove the instance of the installed database... It doesn't remove the packages. You can start again a setup...
By the way, I think that iDS 5.1 on Solaris 9 comes with the full documentation... May be you should start by reading it.

Ludovic. -
Supported platforms: no OS/390
Hello *,
I've a problem with the platform support of OWB. OWB 9.2 and OWB 10g doesn't support OS/390 and Solaris running on the hosts of the target / source schema! :-(
Now my question: is this temporary or forever? Many of our customers use this platforms, also the oracle database supports them. Why the OWB not?!
Are there any workarounds???
ThanksYou would still need the java process to deploy your stuff into the runtime properly. As explained by e-mail, here is some additional info which I want to share with others.
I have digged into this a bit more and it seems that htere is a workaround (until we figure out when/if this will be ported to OS390). You can do it this way:
If you have an Oracle database on your PC (or a suported platform), you can:
1) Install the runtime repository and schema on your PC;
2) Use export/import to transfer these schemas to the OS390 box;
Make the runtime repository point to the OS390 repository
3) Start the local runtime service on your PC (Use the OWB menu->Warehouse Builder->Start Local RTP)
4) Start the Deployment manager by logging into the OS390 repository
5) Now you should be able to deploy and run the mappings on the 390 box.
Appearently there are some customers in the Netherlands that run their systems this way. Be aware of the limitations:
- Only PL/SQL mappings
- No workflow support
- No remote locations support (Meaning that you can not run a remote job from OS390 on another machine, as when you use the Oracle Enterprise Manager agent or something similar. You can, of course, load data to the OS390 from other databases/systems by using DB links)
- Not a supported configuration, but it seems to be working fine
Hope this helps.

Speaker with headphones Creative HS-390 problem!
Hi!
I have bought a speaker and heapdhones system Creative HS-390, and when I'm recording something I must shout really loud to hear my voice in the record. It is no noral. I have win XP SP2.
What;s going on?Hi Gooner1959,
Have you tried plugging the headset to another computer or external device?
That should give you an idea if the headset is working properly or if there is some kind of settings needed to be changed on your onboard sound.

Oracle Announces Oracle9i Database for IBM Linux/390
Hi Folks,
Check out the following URL for the announcement, which went out this morning (March 18, 2002 at 8:00am Eastern).
http://www.oracle.com/corporate/press/index.html?1270638.html
Also, we've had a report that the Oracle9i Database Developer's Release for Linux/390 works on TurboLinux. I'll post distribution version information when I've received it.
BarryFrom reading the other messages in this forum I now know that I'm not alone.
I was lucky enough to get a valid download for 9.2 database for linux but it took
a number of tries. It would be helpful if there could be a number of published
mirror sites to try downloading from. Perhaps this is already implemented
transparently to the end user and it's just luck of the draw that you hit a mirror
that works...
However, I've been having problems downloading ora9ias for about 4 days now.
I'm probably making things worse for others because I've tried to download
disk 1 and 4 at least 3 times and keep getting files that are close to the stated
size but usually a few k bigger or smaller; then I get the invalid gzip file error
message from gunzip. I've tried downloading from IE 5.5, netscape (from both
windows and linux), trying various ways of downloading (holding shift, or right
clicking with save as) and still no luck.
I'll keep trying, but if anyone has any solutions please publish them to this forum.
thanks. -

Guide for Tuning and Optimizing Red Hat Linux AS for Oracle9i Database
I put together a step-by-step guide for tuning and optimizing Red Hat Linux Advanced Server for Oracle9i. It's my first draft version and I would appreciate any comments and feedback.
The article
"Tuning and Optimizing Red Hat Linux Advanced Server for Oracle9i Database"
can be found at:
http://www.puschitz.com/TuningLinuxForOracle.shtml
The article
"Oracle 9i Installation on Red Hat Linux 7.1, 7.2, 7.3, 8.0, and on Red Hat Advanced Server 2.1"
can now be found at http://www.puschitz.com/InstallingOracle9i.shtml
And both links for
"Oracle on Red Hat Linux"
can be found at
http://www.puschitz.com/OracleOnLinux.shtml
WernerIs this good for Redhat Linux 9.0 and not just the advanced server.
If it is not could you please provide me the links to articles like,

Update: Install solution for latest Oracle9i for Linux/390 download
Release notes have been updated to include the following solution from MetaLink
Doc ID 158104.1 out of metalink.
++++++++++++++++
Copy of Doc ID 158104.1
++++++++++++++++
fact: Oracle Server - Enterprise Edition 9.0.1
fact: Intel Based Server LINUX
fact: RedHat 7.1
symptom: Installation fails
symptom: Error during linking
symptom: ins_plsql.mk
cause: <BUG:1843232>.
Versions of ld prior to version 2.11 ignored the "-z defs" flag. ld
version 2.11 and later have the ability to use this flag. Because of
this the genclntsh script fails to produce the libclntsh.so library on a
machine running ld > 2.11.
The "-z defs" is set in the variable LD_SELF_CONTAINED in the
genclntsh script.
fix:
When receiving this error during installation, follow these steps:
1. Open a new console window on the host as the installation user.
2. Set up the Oracle environment (i.e. ORACLE_HOME).
3. Make a backup of the $ORACLE_HOME/genclntsh script.
4. Remove the ${LD_SELF_CONTAINED} flag from the ld command in the 'Create
Library' section.
5. Run the genclntsh script.
6. Click on 'Retry' in the Universal Installer
The installation will now proceed.
This should be fixed in 9.0.2
