Oracle9i with ASP and ODBC

i am working in a web project with ASP connecting to Oacle 9i installed on windows 2000, Pentium 4 processor on an NTFS partition.
After installing oracle 9i, to create a new user, i was unable to logon to oracle as SYSDBA using username: system , password: manager
having an error massage stating "ORA-01031:insufficient privileges"
i was only able to connect as Normal
although i set full control NTFS permissions to the whole partition.
after creating the new user (from system, manager as normal) and giving the new user ROLES as (DBA, Connect, Resource)
i tried to connect to oracle using ASP with ADO but the
connection failed although i tried using Visual basic and ODBC and it worked
so the problem now is that i can't connect to oracle in ASP
can anyone help me?

I'm having a bit of difficulty understanding exactly what you're saying here, so I apologize if I misunderstand...
Are you trying to use ASP to connect to the database with the SYSDBA privilege, or are you trying to use ASP to connect to the database with a normal user? I believe you are trying to do the latter, that it is working in VB, but not in ASP. Are you getting an error when you connect via an ASP page? What error are you getting?
Frequently, the problem is that the IIS user(s) don't have read/execute access to the %ORACLE_HOME% directory and subdirectories. I am not sure if you're indicating that you granted yourself full access or the IIS user full access to the partition.

  • Uk date format issue with ASP and Access Database

I have an Asp form which updates records in an Access

Its not Dreamweaver, or Access, its your servers locale, its
    set to US
    format, not the UK.
On your page at the top use:
    <% Session.LCID = 2057 %>
This will force the page into using UK formatted dates. Use
    it on any
page that needs to format the page correctly.

  • Vertical Image Scroller with ASP and Database

A vertical image scroller where photos (thumbnails) can be

The scroller would be able to hold unlimited thumbnails. The

The thumbnails start to scroll down when mouse rollovers top

    Is this possible?

  • WITH query_name and ODBC

I'm playing around with the WITH query_name clause as in:
WITH FOO AS (SELECT 123 AS BAR FROM DUAL) SELECT * FROM FOO
I'm facing a curious issue. This query runs fine in SQL Developer and it runs fine from PHP if I use the OCI8 functions. However, it doesn't run from PHP using ODBC functions: odbc_exec() gives no error but all function calls that fetch rows, such as odbc_fetch_into(), generate a warning ("No tuples available at this result index") and no rows or columns.
But I face no problem if I enclose everything in a plain SELECT:
    SELECT * FROM (
WITH FOO AS (SELECT 123 AS BAR FROM DUAL) SELECT * FROM FOO
Does the WITH clause convert a query into something that needs special handling? Is it an issue with the ODBC driver?
I haven't been able to find anything relevant in Google, apart from learning that it seems to be an ODBC issue and not Oracle specific.
I connect to Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.1.0.2.0 from Windows Server 2003 using PHP/5.2.6. (No access to Metalink or
Oracle support, though, it's a customer site.)

Actually, Dominic Brooks helped me with that a while back. You don't want the enclosing parentheses because it can throw odd errors, even in SQL*Plus. It's in this old post of mine here:
    http://blog.mclaughlinsoftware.com/2008/10/19/inline-views-table-fabrication-and-the-with-clause/
As to differences on the parser between ODBC and OCI8, I'm not certain but believe that they use the same parser. To the best of my knowledge there are only two parsers (actually three but the other is old and only used by the Applications Division for their adpatch utility). There's the SQL parser and the PL/SQL parser. However, if somebody knows more, please chime in with the details.

  • Trouble with ASP and databases

    Hi,
I am trying to create a form in Dreamweaver 8 so my customers
can enter their information and save it to a sql server database. I
am able to set up the connection to the database using ASP VB. I
can create the fields and which records it will update, but as soon
as I save it, I no longer have access to the database. I can't even
add a new one. In the database window the plus sign is greyed out.
It tells me "To preview pages containing server-side code, you need
a testing server. Would you like to specify one now?" The page is
located under the correct site. I can upload it but when I punch in
the info, it gives me a page not found.
Everything works fine until I save the file.
    Plese help!

Right now I have it set up so it points to the same server.
    Here are my settings:
    Under the advanced tab-
    Remote Info:
    Access = FTP
    FTP Host = xxxxxx
    Host directory = xxxxxxx
    Login = xxxxxx
    Password = xxxxxx
    Testing Server
    Server Model = ASP VBScript
    Access = FTP
    FTP host = xxxxxx
    host directory = xxxxxxx
    Login = xxxxx
    Password = xxxxxx
On both accounts the ftp host and the host directory are the
    same.
I don't receive any errors when I finish. Alos everything
    tests correctly to the server.

  • Beginners Assistance with StarOffice and ODBC connections

    Hello,
I apologize before hand for this VERY newbie question.
One of the last hurdles to overcome in our company to deploying StarOffice, is the use of MANY refreshable Excel files that pull data from SQL servers. How do I get StarOffice to use these ODBC connections? I have tried creating a new database file, but this does not point me to the correct database on the SQL server. I really could use some help, or handholding, through this process.
    Thank you

    Hi Paul
I am trying to get the 32 bit drives to work connected to a SQL remote database and I get the following error
GeneralError:Operation failed.......Index is out of bounds
I am using a simple script to clone the datasource so a drop down can bring up the other row values
The lines that it is failing on is
    while (xfa.sourceSet.nodes.item(nIndex).name != "DataConnection2"){ nIndex

worked fine in Vista, but not windows 7 (using 32 bit drivers)
    Any suggestions?

  • Trying to simply connect to Oracle with VBscript/ASP - and I cannot.

This is rather embarrassing. I am pretty fluent with ASP and VBscript, and I have written many a web application connecting to Microsoft SQL Server. Now I have a need to connect to an Oracle database, and I'm beating my head against the wall.
    1) Web server is Windows Server 2003 SP1
    2) Using ASP (not ASP.NET) & VBscript
    3) I have installed the Oracle drivers on the server - it is version 10g
    4) The administrator of the Oracle database to which I want to connect has created a username and password for me to use from within my code
    5) Here is the code I am trying to run:
    Set objConn = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")
    objConn.Open "Provider=MSDAORA;Data Source=XXXXXXX;User Id=YYYYYYY;Password=ZZZZZZZ;"
That's it. 2 lines of code just trying to establish a connection. Using the user name and password provided to me by the administrator, and for Data Source I am using the IP address of the Oracle server (like I have done in the past when connecting to SQL Server). I receive the following error message when viewing this in a browser:
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Oracle error '80004005'
ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified
Evidently, the Data Source I am using is not correct, but I was provided no other information from the admin. This is the first time any of us have tried to connect to Oracle using ASP/VBScript, so the administrator isn't sure what I need to do ... any help would be so appreciated.

    Hello,
I got mine to work by setting up an ODBC System DSN and connecting to it. I think this bypasses the Microsoft driver, which might be what's causing the problem.
    Set Db = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")
    Db.Open "DSN=TEST;User ID=userid;Password=password;"
Good luck, I've found it requires a lot of persistence...

  • Webserver with ASP

    Hello,
I currently have to work on a website for someone I know. The website is old and needs some updating, mainly layout-wise. I have all his files from his webserver and I like to work with it/test it via my mac webserver. This all sounds fairly logical, however there is one major problem. The website was written with ASP and you can't run ASP on the local mac webserver.
I need to work on this site fairly quickly, so I hope someone has a quick, good solution..
    Thanks

Perhaps you could add something to Apache that would let you do asp? Have no idea if it would work:

  • ASP and SHTML

I currently use ASP pages for my entire site. I have read on
SHTML that I can have SSI in a HTML file.
    What are the major differences?
Should I just stay with ASP?
    Thanks,
    Nate

Just stay with ASP, and use SSI. In the case of ASP, the code
    SSI would be
identical to HTML includes, and since the extension already
    triggers a
    server parsing, you are golden.

  • A lot of problems with Oracle and ASP

Hi, i need to develop a system using ASP and Oracle. I should have started this about 3 weeks ago and I can't in any way connect these 2 technologies.
First, I tried through ODBC and it could not be done.
Next, I tried through OLEDB and when I thought that the problem was found...
    set objSessao = Server.CreateObject("OracleInProcServer.XOraSession")
    set objConexao = OraSession.DbOpenDatabase("mozart", "jacto_revendas/bolinha",cint(0))
These 2 lines seems to be correct, then I had the error "access to object denied", and I read in some forum that it was because some DLLs of %oracle_home%\bin were without permission. I scanned all of them, and gave full access. OK. Then, an error ASP 0177 (error accessing DLL library) appeared and I could not find solution over the Internet.
And the incredible part is that the error only happens as soon as I start the OS... the second time I try, the script stops and does not show any errors or results... the page keeps processing without an end.
Please, I can't find anyone that can help me... you are my last hope...
    thanks
    Mozart

I agree with your suggestion about needing more documentation for APS.NET & Oracle connections. And so the next question is who knows where to find such docs? I've scoured the Oracle & MSDN sites, and have found nothing addressing these permission problems -- at least nothing that fixes the problem. See my recent postings about "access denied exceptions". I've been trying for several weeks to get it fixed, w/o success although I think I'm getting closer & just about to give the ASPNET user total control over EVERYTHING in the oracle home directory tree.

  • Urgent Help with Date and then email in ASP

    Hii,
    USING ASP AND ACCESS
I am implementing a classified section for my website and I
    am displaying
    everything successfully.
When the user posts the classified he selects how many days
    he wants his
POST like 10 days, 20 days or 30 days and i can successfully
    show the posts
So if the user posts on says 1st of July 2006 and selects 10
    days for his
post to be showed on my website
    THEN
8th July 2006 an email shud go to him saying if he wants to
    keep his POST
for another 10 days, 20 days or 30 days with 3 links
and IF YES the 1st july 2006 date must be changed to
Date of Post + Number of days selected initially + Number of
    days selected.
I am using two columsn in the DB for this date thing one is
    the strPostDate
    and strAddDate
So basically the number of days selected for the post to be
    shown on the
website keeps adding up each time the user clicks on the link
    for 10 days,
20 days or 30 days with 3 links
please help need it badly :-)

I have to disagree with my colleages above - this isn't that
hard at all. I have done it a number of times successfully. It does
depend on a "trick", but who cares as long as it works.
Basically, the "trick" says that your site will receive a
visit once in a while! It better, or why have the site!
In ASP, use the global.asa file. In the "Session start"
section of global.asa, which is fired off every time a new comer
arrives, you have an opportunity to:
    1. check if it's ok to check who needs an email (in other
words, you don't want to be checking EVERY time someone comines on
board every last listing on your site. So what i would do is allow
it to do the full check once daily, say after midnight.
    2. If its ok to check who needs an email, do so, and send the
    emails out.
    3. After sending out emails, fix it so you will not be
resending uptil teh next time window. You could also set "flags"
for any lister where you sent an email 1st round email has been
    sent.
    The above is one way.
Sometimes i do the very same thing, but i simply tie the
checking routine into the home page.
Both schemes work as long as you have a single visitor once
in a while. if you never had a visitor to teh site, not even one,
then the emails would never be sent. But as i said if you go days
without a visit, better start looking for a new vocation!
    www.brunswickdowntown.com is a site i did that has a
sign-up-to-stay informed email system, its been running for a year
just fine, all automatically, using the method of #1 (but for
    asp.net, same difference!)

  • Problem with getting Dreamweaver CC to support ASP and ASPX

My company and our developers have been using Dreamweaver for more than 10 years and over that time have used DW to build an ASP and SQL server based system with a code base of over 200 programs and literally thousands of web pages in many, many currently active business websites.  We subscribed to Creative Cloud upon upgrading our workstations to Wondows 8 but found to our consternation that DW CC does not support ASP or ASP.NET.  We have followed instructions provided in this forum in June and attempted to edit the Extensions file to include ASP and ASPX, but either DW or Windows 8 refuses to allow the change to be saved, even with have Administrator access.  What can we do now, apart from cancel our CC subscriptions?

Thanks Nithya.MV for your earlier response.
We have now found a solution at http://helpx.adobe.com/dreamweaver/kb/change-add-recognized-file-extensions.html which applies to Dreamweaver CS6 but can be adapted to DW CC.  The solution was:
    1. Go to C\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Dreamweaver CC\en_US\Configuration\Extensions.txt
    2. Open the file in say NotePad (visit Preferences first to turn off Read Only if necessary).
    3. Add ASP, ASPX, to the front of the list of extensions in the first line.
    4. Save the Extensions.txt file (then resent the file to Real Only in Preferences)
    5. Close Dreamweaver CC if it's open.
    6. (Re)start Dreamweaver CC and open the required .asp or .aspx file.
    This worked a treat.
Unfortunately all the other intructions provided on the Support Forum had us looking in the wrong place at:
    C\Program files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Dreamweaver CC\configuration\Extensions.txt

I'm working my way through Dreamweaver 8 with ASP,
    ColdFusion, and PHP:
Training from the Source. I've come to the middle of Lesson 6
    and have hit
my first obstacle in learning PHP. I'm following the
    instructions to format
the output of the tour price calculator, but my issue is with
    where to place
the following PHP code: <?php setlocale(LC_MONETARY,
    'en_US'); echo
    money_format('%i', $tourPrice); ?>
I placed it before the DOCTYPE and when that didn't work, I
    tried inserting
right before the code that retrieves the tour price (in the
    body of the
    page). That didn't work either.
I also tried changing money_format to number_format and
    manually inserting

Check the PHP documentation - it tells you all you need to

I've no idea what relationship you have with "Training from

  • Interactive Analysis Desktop in use with PostgreSQL DB and ODBC

Hello, is it possible to use the Interactive Analysis Desktop with commercial databases? Specifically, PostgreSQL? But it would also be helpful to use with MySQL and MS SQL.
If so, would it be possible to connect using ODBC or DSN? Please let me know.

You need to use bind variables.
Define a PHP variable for master key. Parse the following anonymous PL/SQL block:
    begin
      get_unique_master_key('DEMO','CMPL','SK','DWMT_TABLE', ? );
end;Bind the PHP master key to the bind variable. Execute.
Bind variables are input and/or output variables. In this case, you want to use it as an output variable in order to receive the master key value from the PL/SQL call.
