OracleXE Operating System variables

Hello!
Could you please tell me which are the OracleXE Operating System variables and where can I find them?
Thank you

It is an absolute MUST to specify the OS you are talking about if you want a direct answer.
At least there are three environment variables you should set, either on Windows or on Unix like systems:
ORACLE_HOME
ORACLE_SID
PATH
They are named the same on both, unix and windows.
There are many other additional environment variables you can set and those are defined at the installation guide for each platform.

  • @variable and Operating system variables (Windows environment variables)

    Hi,
    Has anyone experience with using @variable and Operating system variables (Windows environment variables)in XI 3.x Web Intelligence ?
    Help gives the example of @Variable(NUMBER_OF_PROCESSORS). Even with syntax correction @Variable('NUMBER_OF_PROCESSORS') it does not seem to work.
    It works fine for Desktop Intelligence. Environment variables added are read, after restarting DeskI. If already in an existing DeskI session, newly added (unknown) variable names give a prompt with the variable as prompt text as a result. This is the behavior in Web Intelligence, even for environment variables that are always set (like Path, TMP, ...)
    Both WebI Rich Client and WebI via Infoview in XI 3.1 and XI 3.1 SP2 show this behavior (prompt instead of @variable behavior)
    Are there settings that need to be made? other syntax ?
    Is this a DeskI only feature ?
    Thanks!

    Hi Abdellatif,
    Ok, that would clarify things.
    You have an idea if this is documented somewhere?
    Reason we ask:the "xi3-1_designer_en" guide, the specification for the @variable function states:
    "BusinessObjects system variables. ...
    Report variables. ...
    Operating system variables. You can enter Windows environment variables in order to obtain information about your installation.
    Custom variables. With Desktop Intelligence, you can use a predefined text file to provide a list of fixed variable values."
    There's no explicit referal to DeskI only for OS system variables, like there is for custom variables.
    Thanks!

  • Operating System Variable for Deski LOVs

    Colleagues,  There is an OS variable which cached LOV for Desktop Intelligence reports running in the XI R2 Enterprise environment. The problem is I can't remember what it is, just that it has a long unwieldy name, something like DESKI_LOV_CACHE except even longer and not exactly that. It was often very useful in reducing the amount of time required for prompts and LOVs to appear and generally enhanced the end user experience of the product I would like to find the correct value of this variable, the documentation ( I believe it was mentioned in XI R2 SP2 ) for this variable and does it still exist in the R3 environment.

    I believe this was an issue that was limited to XI R2 and was subsequently fixed by the fix pack 2.1 (ADAPT00677733). Have a look at the following link.

  • Operating System specific variables

    I would like to determine the operating system on which the application server is installed.
    We have a Linux and a Windows operating system running Oracle application server 6i and Oracle application server 9i.
    The forms look in the database for the path from where to run reports. Initially we had only the windows machine so we have path specific to windows, we have added a new linux operating system with Oracle 9i application server, so we are having problems with path.
    Is there a way by which I can determine the operating system and accordingly change the path.
    Thanks in advance.
    -P

    You have presumable noticed that the System.getenv() method is deprecated.
    You might look at bug ID 4199068
    http://developer.java.sun.com/developer/bugParade/bugs/4199068.html
    which calls for it to be reinstated.
    In the user comments there is some JNI code to implement your own getenv function, and other workarounds. Unfortunately this RFE is now closed, so we can't vote for it.

    and Symmantec JIT will encounter this problem. Windows NT,
    Windows 2000
    and NetWare platforms are confirmed to be affected.
    Description
    ~~~~~~~~~~~
    When installing Oracle Products with the Oracle Universal
    Installer (8.1.x)
    on machines that use the Sun JRE and Symmantec JIT, the
    installer hangs.
    Specifically for the Windows platform, the following version
    of the Symmantec
    JIT or earlier will encounter the failure:
    Symantec Java! JustInTime Compiler Version 3.10.107 for JDK
    1.2.
    Details regarding this issue can be found at:
    http://developer.intel.com/design/processor/future/manuals/knowni ssue.htm
    How to determine if you have Symmantec Java for JDK 1.2:
    1. Select the file "symcjit.dll" and right click on it.
    2. Select Properties, then the Version tab.
    3. Under Microsoft Windows*, the properties of the DLL are:
    "Symantec Java! JustInTime Compiler Version 3.10.107 for
    JDK 1.2 Copyright (C)
    1996-99 Symantec Corporation Dynamic Link Library file".
    DLLs older than this will also not work. "
    Likelihood of Occurrence
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Any platform that uses the Intel Pentium 4 processor, with the
    Sun JRE
    and Symmantec JIT will encounter this problem. Windows NT,
    Windows 2000 and NetWare platforms are confirmed to be
    affected.
    Possible Symptoms
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    The failure typically is that the affected application simply
    terminates.
    Workaround
    ~~~~~~~~~~
    Not only will OUI be affected by this bug, most of the
    post-install
    configuration tools will also be affected. Running these
    tools with "-nojit"
    specified will avoid the hang, but it is not simple to specify
    "-nojit" for
    some of the products.
    The following workaround works for the Windows operating
    system:
    a. Copy only the install directory from the CD to the hard
    disk ,say, e:\temp.
    b. Open oraparam.ini and make the following modifications
    (Assuming CD
    drive is f:)
    * Change the "SOURCE=" line to use the full path to the CD
    instead of a
    relative path. (i.e., SOURCE=f:\stage\products.jar)
    * Change the "JRE_LOCATION" line to use the full path to the
    CD instead of a
    relative path. (i.e.,
    JRE_LOCATION=f:\stage\Components\oracle\swd\jre\1.1.7\1\DataFiles
    \Expanded)
    * Change the "OUI_LOCATION" line to use the full path to the
    CD instead of a
    relative path. (i.e.,
    OUI_LOCATION=f:\stage\Components\oracle\swd\oui\1.6.0.9.0\1\DataF
    iles\Expanded
    * Change the "JRE_MEMORY_OPTIONS" line to add "-nojit" as the
    first argument.
    (i.e., JRE_MEMORY_OPTIONS=-nojit -ms16m -mx32m)
    ^^^^^^
    * Other entries should remain the same
    c. Launch setup.exe from the temporary location on your hard
    drive (i.e.
    e:\temp\install\win32\setup.exe). This will use the
    modified
    oraparam.ini and pick up the information from the CD since
    the absolute
    locations are specified.
    Choose a Custom install and choose not to create a database
    during the
    install. This way, the Database Configuration Assistant will
    not be launched
    during installation.
    The Net8 Configuration Assistant will still be launched, and
    there is no way
    to suppress it. You will need to kill the Net8 Configuration
    Assistant if it
    hangs due to the bug. The installation still will have been
    successful, and
    you can run the DBCA and NetCA after installation.
    To kill NetCA if it hangs during installation:
    In the "Configuration Tools" window, highlight the "Net8
    Configuration
    Assistant" and click "Stop". If that does not work, look for
    the most recent
    JRE process using the Task Manager, and kill it manually.
    NOTE: the OUI
    itself will also have a jre process. Be sure to kill the one
    with the most
    recent date, which should be the jre process being used for
    Net8CA, not the
    one for OUI itself.
    After killing the configuration tools and continuing through
    the installation
    to the "End of Installation" screen, you should modify the
    configuration tools
    to use "-nojit", then call the appropriate tools from the
    Start Menu.
    Once installation is complete, each of the following files in
    the ORACLE_HOME
    needs to be modified:
    assistants\dbca\dbassist.cl
    assistants\dbma\dbmig.cl
    assistants\ifa\ifa.cl
    bin\elogin.cl
    bin\owm.cl
    ldap\oidamdin\oidadmin.cl
    network\tools\netasst.cl
    network\tools\netca.cl
    owm\install\instelogin.cl
    owm\install\instowm.cl
    Edit the contents of the above files to add "-nojit" as shown
    below:
    Command=("C:\Program Files\Oracle\jre\1.1.7\BIN\JREW" -nojit
    -classpath ....
    this is the only thing you need to add --> ^^^^^^
    Then, launch the necessary tools, like Net8CA and DBCA from
    the Start Menu.
    Patches
    ~~~~~~~
    Currently there is not a patched installer available to deal
    with this
    problem, the workaround listed above must be used.
    The solution of making a local copy of the installation CD on
    Windows ME
    Solution to the installation of Oraclei8.1.7 PE in Windows Millennium
    Oracle does not support installing version 8.1.7 PE into
    Windows Millennium.
    As an unsupported workaround, you may add the following line
    to the [compatibility95] section of win.ini prior to
    installation:
    Jrew=0x00080000
    After setup is complete, Oracle will recommend a reboot.
    There is one additional step necessary prior to reboot;
    Oracle may add a non-standard path statement to the
    autoexec.bat file. Please modify this SET PATH
    statement to use short-filenames if you find a quoted
    LFN string represented as part of the path. You can
    confirm that the path was merged successfully into the
    registry after reboot by examining the PATH variable
    in the registry at
    HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\SessionManager\Environment
    Symptoms of a missing Oracle path statement in the registry are that Net8 Easy Config will not launch.
    Please note that Oracle does not support the use of this
    product in Windows ME, but have authorized these workarounds
    for testing purposes only.
    Windows XP Home Edition
    Oracle 8i is not certified on windows XP. Even if yes, it must be Windows XP Professional.
    You can install Oracle8i on windows XP Home Edition, try like this:
    1 - Copy your Oracle CD into hard disk in your
    machine. For example Copy from oracle8i CD into C:\Oracle\ ...
    2 - Search the two files named Symcjit.dll on the D drive (where you have copied Oracle8i. You can found them in (example):
    C:\Oracle\stage\Components\oracle.swd.jre\1.1.7.30\1
    \DataFiles\Expanded\jre\win32\bin\symcjit.dll
    3 - Rename this file (Example): symcjit_back.dll (make sure to find two files and rename them)
    4 - Execute the Oracle setup.exe from C:\Oracle\setup.exe
    ===============================================================
    When Oracle 8i dies on the install or the installer hangs, here is the fix for this, make sure that you have Service Pack 2 installed.
    1. \JRE\1.3.1\ From Sun. (You can download java program at http://java.sun.com/products/jdk/1.1/jre/download-jre-windows.html)
    2. Install the java file.
    There is also a problem in the installation disk.
    3. Make a copy of the Oracle 8i disk on the local hard disk.
    4. Do a search for the two files called symcjit.dll and rename them for example: symcjit.old.
    5. Install Oracle from the win32 directory.
  • SSIS BULK INSERT unsing UNC inside of ForEach Loop Container Failed could not be opened. Operating system error code 5(Access is denied.)
    Hi,
    I am trying to figure out how to fix my problem
    Error: Could not be opened. Operating system error code 5(Access is denied.)
    Process Description:
    Target Database Server Reside on different Server in the Network
    SSIS Package runs from a Remote Server
    SSIS Package use a ForEachLoop Container to loop into a directory to do Bulk Insert
    SSIS Package use variables to specified the share location of the files using UNC like this
    \\server\files
    Database Service accounts under the Database is runing it has full permission on the share drive were the files reside.
    In the Execution Results tab shows the prepare SQL statement for the BULK insert and I can run the same exact the bulk insert in SSMS without errors, from the Database Server and from the server were SSIS package is executed.
    I am on a dead end and I don’t want to re-write SSIS to use Data Flow Task because is not flexible to update when metadata of the table changed.
    Below post it has almost the same situation:
    https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sqlserver/en-US/8de13e74-709a-43a5-8be2-034b764ca44f/problem-with-bulk-insert-task-in-foreach-loop?forum=sqlintegrationservices
    Insteresting how I fixed the issue, Adding the Application Name into the SQL OLAP Connection String Fixed the issue. I am not sure why SQL Server wasn't able to open the file remotely without this.
  • Remote desktop connection issue with an RDP client while connecting to some of windows 2008 and 2003 operating system flavors and not receiving SDin value choice 26 from DomainMCSPDU
    Hi Team
    We have our RDP client and i came across with one issue "Expected data got 3" with this client.
    This issue is getting while connecting some of below operating system flavors.
    Microsoft Windows 2008 Enterprise edition
    Microsoft Windows 2008 Standard edition
    Microsoft Windows 2003 servers
    When we are trying to get RDP to those servers with our client, getting "Expected data got 3" error. One more main thing here is the specified error is not getting for all the servers of same operating system in above list.
    Able to get the RDP console for those servers using mstsc client.
    When i read the [MS-RDPBCGR] specification, i found the below points
    mcsSDin (variable): Variable-length PER-encoded MCS Domain PDU (DomainMCSPDU) which encapsulates an MCS Send Data Indication structure (SDin, choice 26 from DomainMCSPDU), as specified in [T125] section 11.33 (the ASN.1 structure definitions
    are given in [T125] section 7, parts 7 and 10). The userData field of the MCS Send Data Indication contains a Security Header and a Valid Client License Data (section 2.2.1.12.1) structure.
    In my code i am not getting SDin value as 26. Is it the problem with Remote desktop Licensing in RDP servers as specified in the specification like "The userData field of the MCS Send Data Indication contains a Security Header and a Valid
    Client License Data (section 2.2.1.12.1) structure."
    Could you please explain me is this issue is happening due to Licence configuration in RDP server and please provide support with server side configuration if any because our code works for other servers ?
    Thanks & Regards,
    I browsed this page earlier, and now im back to explain how i fixed my problem which is similar to yours.
    All of the below must be followed manually: (that windows msgbox error is just confusing you) be reminded that:
    %appdata% is not a network location. It is a systemwide variable used by Windows OS. %appdata% is a directory on your computer
    I have win 7 OS, and i tweaked the below values so the Nokia_PC_Suite will install:
    follow ALL of the following one by one:
    -----first, the package----
    first, go to the file which you downloaded from the net, (usually: Nokia_PC_Suite_eng_web.exe) right click the file and click properties, then click the compatibility tab and tick "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" then (select your OS on drop down box) then also click the lowermost button, "Run this program as administrator" then click OK. and close the properties box.
    ----second, the registry----(carefull a little mistake will render your machine unusable, so don't mess inside registry)
    enter your registry by >> Start > Run > "type" regedit (without the word type) expand the following:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders, (on the right pane) you will see AppData, double click AppData and change the value to: %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming
    do the above to below location also: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders
    ----third, Windows environment variables----
    in your windows, right click the "My Computer", then click "Properties" then click the Advanced tab, on the lowermost of the window click the button [Environment Variables], click edit and change the value of "Temp" to variable value: %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming.
    Now double click (re-install) the Nokia package which you have downloaded from Nokia website and i hope it will install flawlessly this time
    I have a dual boot lab that I set up for a school.  The partitions consist of Mountain Lion OSX and Windows 7 Ent.  I use bootpicker software for choosing the operating system at startup.  When I select the windows partition, it take just under 2 minutes from selection to the windows login screen.  It seems to take incredibly long for the mac to "shut down and hand over the operating system to windows.
    Do you have any suggestions on how to get this timing faster?
    Thanks for any ideas/input
    The only suggestion I can make is to look ar ReFind (previuosly ReFit). Startup mamangement is one of its features.
    But
    It is very powerful so test it for yourself before deploying it. Some of the functions are best kept out of the hands of the curious, or 'playful'
    And you never answered this question.
    Tell me what the needs are, do the users always need to choose Windows or is this a variable?
  • Problem with zip operating system command
    Hello,
    i have the following configuration in the file receiver adapter:
    Directory: /tmp/
    File Name Scheme: %name%.txt
    Variable substitution:
    Variable Name: name                 Reference: payload: record,1,name,1
    Run Operating system command:
    /usr/bin/zip /tmp/%f.zip %F
    The execution is succesful, but i have a small problem. The file name is "file.txt.zip", the .txt should appear but i dont know how to skip it, I have tried so many ways but it doesnt work, I should receive a file called "file.zip" With a file inside in txt format...
    Thanks,
    Luis
    Hi Sriram,
    Thanks, but that wouldnt work out, Im using the %f for my file name, so this move command shouldnt work for me, because my filename changes in every execution, so I cant write something like this: mv file.txt.zip file.zip
    The only solution I see would would be a command which deals with strings and that could remove the four last characters of "%f"..but I havent found anything for doing it.
    Hi lony ,
    If you want to copy then you should use oditools that is OdiFileCopy.
    If you want to use scriptfile then put script file in directory accessible to ODI. Then use below codes in your oscommand or odioscommand.
    /home/lony/scrpt.sh
    Sometimes you may need to use environmental variable( as per requirement. ex: If odi can accesss all child directory in /home/lony but not in /home/test.).
    Thanks.
    it's available for sp12 but maybe it's worth to wait 1 day until your basis people install sp12 and start testing the new solution ?
    I won't see the sp12 till tuesday so I cannot say if it works but it looks (from the documentation) great
    BTW
    can you turn on the monitoring of the folder the file adapter tries to use and check if any command is being executed at all?
  • MDT 2012 \ WinPE 3.0 Slow Install Operating System
    I have an issue with a custom wim I have incorporated into my Task sequence. When I use a custom Wim, at the point where the MDT Tasksequence begins to "Install Operating System" it slows down to a crawl. What previously took 5-10 minutes on a
    previous wim, is now taking 30-50. When the "Install Operating System" task begins, it starts a at a very decent rate, you can see the percentage or time increasing/changing every few seconds with out issue, but when it gets to 30% completion, it
    starts to slow down dramatically. Eventually it will get to 100% Completion, where it will stay for the next 5 minutes, at which point it will apply the unattend.xml which will also take a very very long time to complete.
    Once it reboots from applying the Unattend.xml everything runs normal.
    My Setup:
    I am using MDT 2012 - with WinPE3.0
    To create my Custom Wim I did the following:
    I created a brand new standard tasksequence, to deploy an OS to a machine, install updates then sysprep and capture to a wim. I set a custom variable in the tasksequence which set DoCapture=Yes. This allowed me to Capture the Operating system after the windows
    updates were done without having to do any additional steps. I then imported the Image into the operating systems section of my MDT Deployment share, and incorporated it into my previous Tasksequence.
    I have also noticed that the size of the wim file I created is about 1.5 gigs larger than my previous wim.
    Steps I've Taken for remediation:
    I've tried rebuilding my boot.wim several times.
    Increased the scratch size from 32 -> 64 -> 256 -> 512MB
    Removed unnecessary drivers from the boot.wim
    Any ideas you guys might have with regard to getting my Install Operating System phase to speed up to normal speeds with be greatly appreciated.  Is there an extra step with the install.wim that I importing into MDT that I should be doing?
    I completed a robocopy in the full blown OS to download the 4.9g wim, it takes 1 minute and 36 seconds.  It does have gigabit connection active in the full blown os.
    When I am running WinPE, Task Manager is showing my local area connection is running at 1Gbps.
    Another discrepancy I'm noticing is that @ 12:16:04 [Line1801] the task sequence finishes apply the wim.  It takes 10 minutes for it to start the next task found on Line 1807.  Any Ideas on why it taking so long to apply the  bootsect.exe
    command?
    I did disable the "Apply Patches" task, and it did remove 20 minutes by not applying those patches.  Thank you for that suggestion.
  • Drivers for different Operating Systems in one Task Sequence
    Hi,
    I would like to implement a solution for our deployment process. We are using UDI Wizard, and in this moment in time we are deploying only Windows 7 x64 and Windows 8.1 x64.
    Here is how it looks in UDI:
    Drivers for our HP laptops are setup and working with Windows 7 x64, but when I choose Windows 8.1 x64 from my dropdown menu in UDI, during the deployment process I get the driver package that is made for Windows 7 x64 version.
    What am I missing here? Ofcourse i added all of this conditions to see if it works because I am testing it right now:
    If possible we would like to use the same TS for both OS (and in the future Windows 10).
    Thanks,
    Hi Jason,
    thanks for your reply. As I tried to explain above, I just added many conditions to see if it would work, random throwing of everything, nothing more. Well it didnt.
    It worked like this:
    1. First you configure the operating systems in UDI wizard, then their name is what counts.
    2. Then you implement OS into UDI task sequence, and for that to works you also use OSDImageName variable.
    For example Windows 7 x64 Enterprise you Add condition->TS variable->OSDImageName equals "Windows 7 x64 Enterprise", I got that name from UDI wizard. For Windows 8 x64 the same, just make another step including Install Operating system Windows
    8 and change the variable according to the name.
    3. Then create install driver steps both for different OS and also add the condition like bellow:
    You have to specify both conditions in order to work, otherwise it will install both driver packages.
    Thanks,
