Operating System specific variables

I would like to determine the operating system on which the application server is installed.
We have a Linux and a Windows operating system running Oracle application server 6i and Oracle application server 9i.
The forms look in the database for the path from where to run reports. Initially we had only the windows machine so we have path specific to windows, we have added a new linux operating system with Oracle 9i application server, so we are having problems with path.
Is there a way by which I can determine the operating system and accordingly change the path.
Thanks in advance.

You have presumable noticed that the System.getenv() method is deprecated.
You might look at bug ID 4199068
http://developer.java.sun.com/developer/bugParade/bugs/4199068.html
which calls for it to be reinstated.
In the user comments there is some JNI code to implement your own getenv function, and other workarounds. Unfortunately this RFE is now closed, so we can't vote for it.

  • Problem in jar file with respect to operating systems

    Hi all,
I am creating a jar file in windows operating system, When I deploy it in AIX machine the application is not starting up? There is any operating system specific commands to create jar files?
    Any ideas.
Thanx in advance for your help.

I am starting the application through websphere admin
console. When I am starting it is showing error
message that the application unable to start. That you are using WebSphere is a very important bit of information you failed to provide!
WebSphere can be configured to be very picky about what it allows! If your program does not require WebSphere to run then try running it outside of WebSphere.
Also, make sure that the WebSphere container is executing using a version of Java that is compatible with your Application.

  • Numbers of Oracle DB usage on different operating systems

    Hi all,
I am looking for numbers that breakdown in what proportion Oracle DB is used in different operating systems, specifically the percentage of use in each group of operating systems.
    - Windows
    - OpenVMS
    - Linux
    - Unixes.
    - Others
Could someone provide some numbers or a link to where I could get the information?
I am especially interested in windows and OpenVMS...
    Best wishes to all

    Hi Andy,
I'm seeing lot of companies prefer Unix(Solaris, HP, Linux) as a production. My experience working with 3 big clients like Cingular (USA), Orange (UK) & SKY(UK) they have many solaris oracle and few HP oracle (Orange).

  • @variable and Operating system variables (Windows environment variables)

    Hi,
Has anyone experience with using @variable and Operating system variables (Windows environment variables)in XI 3.x Web Intelligence ?
Help gives the example of @Variable(NUMBER_OF_PROCESSORS). Even with syntax correction @Variable('NUMBER_OF_PROCESSORS') it does not seem to work.
It works fine for Desktop Intelligence. Environment variables added are read, after restarting DeskI. If already in an existing DeskI session, newly added (unknown) variable names give a prompt with the variable as prompt text as a result. This is the behavior in Web Intelligence, even for environment variables that are always set (like Path, TMP, ...)
Both WebI Rich Client and WebI via Infoview in XI 3.1 and XI 3.1 SP2 show this behavior (prompt instead of @variable behavior)
Are there settings that need to be made? other syntax ?
Is this a DeskI only feature ?
    Thanks!

    Hi Abdellatif,
    Ok, that would clarify things.
You have an idea if this is documented somewhere?
Reason we ask:the "xi3-1_designer_en" guide, the specification for the @variable function states:
    "BusinessObjects system variables. ...
    Report variables. ...
Operating system variables. You can enter Windows environment variables in order to obtain information about your installation.
Custom variables. With Desktop Intelligence, you can use a predefined text file to provide a list of fixed variable values."
There's no explicit referal to DeskI only for OS system variables, like there is for custom variables.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
I am using your software: CS6 InDesign Suiteon a PC using a Windows 7 operating system.
Due to eyesight issues, I need to have the menu bars of programs in easy-to-read font and picture size.  Specifically, the menu bar across the top (File, Edit, View, etc.), and the menu bar on the left side with the graphic depiction of options.
In earlier versions of Windows (e.g. XP), whenever I changed the screen resolution on my computer to a lesser resolution in order to show the link icons on my desktop in a larger, more readable size, all the software programs, including yours, appeared on my screen with the menu bars in the larger font size that I needed.
However, in Windows 7, this is not the case.  Even though I have selected the lowest resolution, making the icons on my desktop extremely large, I cannot read the options across the top menu bar of your program, nor the pull-down menu items that they contain.  I cannot see the graphic depictions of options on the left side of the screen. They are all too small.  How can I make your program increase the size?

CS6 is not high-DPI compatible/ enabled and that can't be changed. If you cannot6 make it work with your operating system means, then short of joining Creative Cloud and using newer versions there is nothing you can do.

  • How, specifically, do I download the latest operating system for my Mac laptop?

How, specifically, do I download the latest operating system for my Mac laptop?

Choose About this Mac from the Apple menu and check the processor.
If it's a Core Duo Mac, click here, install the DVD, and run Software Update.
If it's a Core 2 Duo or better Mac, follow the Core Duo instructions, open the Mac App Store, and try downloading 10.9. If you get told it's incompatible, go to the online Apple Store and order a download code for Lion 10.7.

  • Technology-Specific Customized Operating Systems

I am in the health care & biotech field. What i find interesting is the huge price tags of data analysis software & applications, or the wimpy computing systems they might attach with said applications. Why doesn't someone market a Mac mini (clustered if need be) with applications on the desktop geared for specific industries. With the price of the Mac mini, you could undercut any competitor. There are soooo many free applications out there...and even linking into some of the GNU apps...would allow clients to further customize as needed?
I have collected...journals, articles, data software apps, etc...that could easily be added to the HD. Creating a simple desktop again geared toward the industry of your client without all the other useless crap applications would make for a nice, efficient, compact OS?
    Has this already been done?
If so....where would I find them??
PowerBookG4, iMac, iBook, etc....   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

I'm not aware of anyone who has done this. I think part of the problem is that many of those applications are useless to most people who use computers. The average consumer wants the ability to manage their photos and music and videos. Hence the iLife suite makes a lot sense. You can always erase and install the operating system and only include the operating system, if iLife doesn't interest you. There are video shops which specialize in including video software with Macs. If you think there is a market to make such a computer, go ahead and create it for yourself. http://www.apple.com/buy interestingly enough lists some consultancies that sell Macs that are hard to find in real life (i.e. no street front/store front). Maybe some of those are what you are looking for? Call around and ask in your area if you find you can't locate the store.

You don't need to start a new thread - you just use the 'Reply' button at bottom right of the answering post. Anyway as you're here...
You should start by going to System Preferences (or is it called Settings in ML?)>iCloud and clicking the Sign Out button. Then sign back in again. Your iCloud data will disappear from your Mac when you do this (but not from the server) - it will reappear when you sign back in. Alternatively if the message identifies an account which is signed in at System Preferences>Mail, Contacts and Calendars you should log out and in there.

  • Is the operating system installation specific to the particular machine?

If I move the os harddrive (which is leopard 10.5.1 + all applications) into a new machine, would it work? Both are intel machines and I'm trying to avoid not only downtime in setting it up but also this setup is very stable....BUT I don't want to do this if the installation is specific to the machine on which it is installed and doing it this way would cause me more headaches than time. Thanks
    Message was edited by: GRS

It depends. All new Macs come with a set of Software Restore discs. The version of OS X on the discs is often specific to that model - a special build. The retail version sold by Apple may contain a build that does not work on machines made after the retail version was released. For example, the 10.5 version of Leopard released last October will not work on the 2008 models because the new models require a later build (or even a later version.) The Early 2008 Mac Pros are delivered with a version of 10.5.1 that is not the same as the version installed by the 10.5.1 standalone updater.
It's reasonable to assume that whatever version of the operating system is on the gray labeled discs that come with a Mac, it is not compatible with a different Mac model.
Furthermore, if you install any version of OS X on one computer you cannot install that same version on another Mac at the same time without violating the license agreement unless you have either a Family Pak 5 machine license or a site license.

  • Deploy operating system on specific VLAN

    Hello,
I need to cunfigure our SCCM 2012R2 for deploying operating system on specific VLAN.
I think that I need to configure DHCP server with PXE on SCCM server. After that, how can deploy operating system just for this VLAN? I can't find any tutorial for this scenario :(
    Thank you.

OK, assuming your need has nothing to do with setting up PXE then, you're only concerned about the
availability of the task sequence, and you want to limit it from Software Center while also being able to image new machines, then here is what you can do:
    1. You need to have an IP address range that covers the VLAN regardless or you won't get any content.
    2. For existing clients, create a query-collection for clients that fall within the IP range/subnet of the VLAN and deploy the task sequence just to that collection
    3. For new machines, be sure to deploy the task sequence to the All Unknown Computers collection

  • OracleXE Operating System variables

    Hello!
Could you please tell me which are the OracleXE Operating System variables and where can I find them?
    Thank you

It is an absolute MUST to specify the OS you are talking about if you want a direct answer.
At least there are three environment variables you should set, either on Windows or on Unix like systems:
    ORACLE_HOME
    ORACLE_SID
    PATH
They are named the same on both, unix and windows.
There are many other additional environment variables you can set and those are defined at the installation guide for each platform.
