Orainst on SuSE 6.0

Last week I receive the SuSE 6.0, cos I don't have nothing
important on my linux partition I clear everything and start it
from zero. But when I try to install the 8.0.5.1 EE it gives me
an error
OS Error: Unable to get current working directory
any idea?
The SE edition works fine, but I can't apply the patches too.
Buy the way, I must install the two patchsets? they have a order?
The first try the gmake, but I didn't have it, I use make. Must I
download gnu tools or is another package?.
Many Thanks. Leandro.

GNU-Tools and so ...
If you startet your Linux installation with yast and if you made
no changes in the predefined software packages already makred
for a standard installation, you have already installed the
whole GNU-Tools like C-Compiler and the make-tool.
make and so ...
If you did a standard installation, see above, you should have a
gmake utility. This gmake utility is usually linked to the name
make so, if you start a compile with make, you actually use
gmake.
If make isn't installed on your system, install linux again or
start yast and mark all entries in the section software
developement which includes the string gnu in the package
description.
I hope that helps you

Are you doing the installation as root and created the oracle (oraprod) and applmgr (applprod) OS users already, or are you doing a single user installation? I prefer having separate users as it is easier to tell when the applications processes are all down by grep'ing ps for applmgr.

    Hi Markus,
    I don't know what exactly getImportedKeys/getExportedKeys do.
I suppose it's some kind of select on the data dictionary views.
The reason for the slow performance could be miss-configuration
of Oracle or a very large number of objects (say more than 20000
    tables).
I could advice that you check there's nothing else in the SYSTEM
    tablespace than the data dictionary.
    U could use:
select * from dba_segments where OWNER not in ('SYS','SYSTEM')
    and TABLESPACE_NAME = 'SYSTEM';
I could recomend that you set shared_pool_size to 100MBytes, and
    db_block_buffers*db_block_size to 100MB.
    Hope this helps,
    Best regards,
    Michael
P.S. it could help if you publish some of the SQL statements that
    are slow.

    Hello Madhav,
You have to maintain your 'business transaction profile' (SPRO->CRM->IC Web->Business Transaction->Define bus. trans. prof.) in the customizing and assign that profile to your IC WebClient profile (the one you assigned in the org. model)
In the business transaction profile you must make sure that at least one transaction type (e.g. ZSRV) is assigned as 'Dependent business transaction' and that entry is flagged as 'Service'.
Also make sure that that transaction type (ZSRV) has leading business transaction category 'Service process' (BUS2000116).
    This should solve your problem!
    Kind regards,

  • Attempting to install Forms 6i on 10.2.0.1 and SUSE 9.2

    1) Downloaded d2k6irelease2.tar from Oracle into /OracleForms6i directory.
    2) unTAR'd onto an AS400 running SUSE 9.2 (/app/OracleForms6i/)
    3) From /app/OracleForms6i/stage/10gR2 directory executed
    /opt/oracle/app/oracle/product/10.2.0.1/rdbms/oui/bin/runInstaller.sh
    4) Loaded OUI and pointed to /app/OracleForms6i/stage/10gR2/products.xml file.
    5) Progresses to 80% in loading of products.html- then hangs with no further progress.
    Any suggestions, etc?

You are trying to use a 10gR2 database Universal Installer with a Developer 6i installation source. After you untar it, cd to the orainst directory and run orainst. If orainst /m does not spawn the motif installer, you have to use the character mode installer. Search the forums for d2k6irelease2.tar and you will see references around the RDBMS error message you will probably see.
There was a Metalink forum note that describes this:
    Search on 380046.996.
d2k6irelease2.tar : this is how you start the installer:
I was searching for an answer to this question a few days ago and only found other people asking the same question and not getting a valid answer.
I have managed to start the installer in character mode (I don't have motif installed but apparently this can run under motif).
Download this file to your server and untar it somewhere (eg. /stage/d2k). Then cd /stage/d2k/orainst and run ./orainst
It seems obvious to me now but I was initially searching for product.jar or orainst.sh or an install directory. Hope this saves you some time...

  • Oracle805 on SuSE 5.3

    Hi everybody,
I tried to install Oracle on my Linux box. Therefor, I first
installed the Glibc2 patch for SuSE and the old bash, that is
    required for oratab.sh .
The first time, I could start the installer, but some Oracle
files where missing due to an incomplete download.
Since I have a complete CD now, I tried again 2 weeks later.
But unfortunately, I always get a "bash: ./orainst: No such file
or directory" error. I already set all the files to chmod 755
    and
to 777, I changed the owner to oracle, the group to dba, but
nothing helped. What could be wrong here ?
If it is a dumb mistake, sorry, I m not Mr. UNIX-Guru.

    Hi Stefan.
the problem is, that you have to mount your CD-Rom with
the exec-option. Suse uses as a default for mountin CD's
    /cdrom /dev/hdb (or whatever) noexec,ro,defaults
So you can't start executables from the CD.
    Mount you CD with
    mount /dev/hdb /cdrom -r
or adjust your /etc/fstab according to the above note.
    This will work !
    Ciao

  • Successful instalation of Oracle on SuSE !!!

I have installed Oracle for SuSE Linux 5.3 with same patchs.
    Take a look on
    http://www.suse.de/Support/sdb_e/fehr_oracle_1.html
Even this documentation is mistakes and can be resolved easly.
When you apply the patch, may be you will see missed files about
    openwin. Don't worry about it.
The follow enviorement should resolve installation troubles:
    export GCC_EXEC_PREFIX=/usr/lib/gcc-lib/i486-linux-libc6/
export ORACLE_HOME=/home/oracle/ora8 # or Where do you want to
    install
    export
    LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/lib:$ORACLE_HOME/bin:/usr/i486-
    linux-libc6/lib
    export ORACLE_BASE=$ORACLE_HOME
    export ULIMIT=2113674
export ORACLE_SID=ora8 # or your SID
    export PATH=$PATH:$ORACLE_HOME/bin:$ORACLE_HOME/lib:/usr/i486-
    linux-libc6/lib
Add this enviorement to your .profile oracle user due always you
    will need.
    Then run orainst program.
DON'T install Oracle Intelligent Agent and jdbc at firt time.
Add second patch program when your Oracle is completed. Then you
are able to add Oracle Intelligent Agent. It is better and don't
require to change source files or copy it to your hard disk.

    Hi,
Have You executed xhost + ?
If not , open another terminal session as root user and execute it. Back to terminal window of oracle user session and execute the runInstaller.

  • Installation problem on SUSE 12.1

    Hi
I'm a Linux beginner and I am trying to install LV on SUSE 12.1
I've also posted my problems on Lava:
    http://lavag.org/topic/15240-labview-installation-problem-on-suse-121/
The installation started and it looks quite all right, but when I try to start LabVIEW, the application just sits in the taskbar for about 20 seconds and then just disappears.
     Any ideas?
Is there a way to debug to see what's going on?

Unfortunately, there are no versions of LabVIEW supported on SUSE 12.1 at present. Here's a link to LabVIEW version compatibility with different Linux distributions. I saw from your other forum that you're attempting to install LabVIEW 2009, which is certified for SUSE 11.0 at the latest.

  • Install of SuSE Linux 9.0 freezes early on

I recently upgraded to an MSI 865PE Neo2 motherboard, with a P4 2.8 GHz processor.  I've installed Windows XP Professional without difficulty, but I tried to install SuSE Linux 9.0 and it locks up early on in the boot process during "hardware detection."  Opinions on this forum about earlier versions of SuSE and the YaST program were fairly poor, and their own site says that support for the Neo2 is only "partial."  Has anyone gotten Linux to install successfully on this mobo, and if so, which flavor?

I have a Neo2-S and have mixed success w/ Linux as well.  I just tried SuSe Live 9.2 and it took me about 10 times to get it to boot.  I think the only thing that I changed when it actually booted was the option to make the boot screen verbose.  I hit something like F3 and changed that option.
Knoppix 3.3 works great for me
    Knoppix 3.4 doesn't boot
    Mandrake Move 10 doesn't boot
I may have some of the version numbers wrong because I am just typing them off of the top of my head.  I also have only tried the bootable CD version because I don't want to risk any conflicts w/ my Win XP.
I am also about to get a new 200 GB SATA drive and I know that is going to complicate things even further.  I just wish that the devs would spend more time working on hardware support so n00bs won't have probs when trying out Linux.
They really need to make all distro's of Linux be able to use all of the IDE/SATA channels in a system.  This is probably dependent on the kernel though.  I don't know that much about Linux.

PHP3 compiles well, if i try to use the "normal" static module for Apache, but the Apache configure script says that it needs an ANSI C compiler and stops.
I am using GCC 2.7.2.3 with the bugfixes from SuSe.
Since that did not work I tried the configuration as a Dynamic Module. The Apache "Readme.config" explains two ways to do so, but the first has the same problem with GCC and the second (via APXS) compiles Apache without problems, but PHP3 wont compile since it does not find a library. The exact error is: "/usr/i486-linux/bin/ld: cannot open -lclntsh: No such file or directory"
I found a libclntsh.so.8.0 in the oracle/lib directory, but since i fumbled around with this library (i tried ln -s libclntsh.so.8.0 libclntsh.so) sqlplus says libclntsh.so.8.0: cannot find file data: no such file or directory (even now that the link is deleted again).
And PHP still wont compile. Any ideas would be welcome.
P.S.: Is it normal that Oracle has to be told NOT to create a database during install, TO create a database???
We worked for 3 days on the Oracle installation and that was the only way to install Oracle without errors.
    thx
