  • Is Photoshop Elements organizer 9 compatible with the most current version?

I have a large photo collection organized with Photoshop Elements 9 organizer.  I am hoping that i can import the album data file (tags, names, folders, etc.) into the newest Photoshop Elements organizer, version 13.
    Thoughts or suggestions?
I would hate to have to re-label thousands of pictures.

    Thank you!
I plan to purchase a new computer shortly and move all image files along with the Adobe album information/data file to the same directory on the new machine.  I was hoping that when i was installing the new software, the old data file would be recognized and it would be upgraded/imported into the new PSE13 album.
I have over 6,000 carefully tagged photographs, and i don't want to re-tag photos.

I don't understand why running the exe from the installation folder would have worked.
I would have simply tried to run that exe from its real location :
Sorry, I can't help you more about permissions...

    Hello flarogue7
This issue means there is certain issue with your HOSTS file.
Just navigate to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc on your computer, rename the HOSTS file and try to install. It will install.

  • Is Photoshop Elements Good for organizing 1000's of Videos

Is Photoshop Elements good for organizing 1000's of videos, no photos videos only, up to 2TB in total size?
If so, what file format should my videos be in before I load into Elements? I am looking to the future and want to use a very common file format.
    Thanks for your help,
    Bill

I am not a heavy video user, but I think that should not be a problem.
There is a dedicated forum for Premiere Elements:

  • In terms of organizing photos, what does Lightroom do better/different than Photoshop Elements?

    Hi,
I recently purchased Photoshop Elements and Premiere Elements 12.  I have many, many pictures from several years on our hard drive and would love to be able to better organize and tag them, etc.  I have recently learned that Photoshop Elements can do this for me.  I have also recently heard that Lightroom is good for this.  Before I start importing thousands and thousands of files into PSE, I figure I should determine if I should use Lightroom instead.  This would obviously come at an additional cost, so I would like this forum's help in explaining how Lightroom might be better than PSE for this function so that I can determine if it's worth the extra cost.
    Thanks!

The PSE Organizer has fewer features and more bugs than Lightroom, in my opinion
Lightroom has more features for searching and more metadata fields for your use if you need them
Lightroom offers the ability to geotag your photos and display them on a map
Lightroom can streamline your workflow, so if for example you want to do the same things to multiple photos (including applying the same edits), this is much easier in Lightroom.
In general, my opinion is that Lightroom's Library Module is a superior piece of software than the PSE Organizer. In general, my opinion is that the user interface for Lightroom's Library module is a superior interface than the PSE Organizer. My opinion is that Lightroom's workflow is smoother and more efficient than doing the same things in PSE.
But some people love the PSE Organizer. It all depends on what you want to do. Your best path forward is to download the 30-day free trial of Lightroom, view some tutorial videos about Lightroom (don't skip this step), and compare for yourself the PSE Organizer to the Lightroom Library Module (and other parts of Lightroom as well).

  • How can I integrate metadata and keywords in Lightroom with those in Photoshop, Bridge, and Photoshop Elements? In other words, is there a way to retrieve common metadata templates from all modules? Thanks!

Keyword and Metadata Integration throughout Adobe Modules

    Thanks! That's helpful.
What I mean by "common metadata", is a unified, updated, most current metadata, which I could update in each program. That is without overwriting the metadata, but appending new keywords to the metadata I created in the previous program.
I use Bridge, then Lightroom and finally Photoshop. That's the regular workflow: Bridge for preliminary sorting and and adding some keywords; Lightroom for organizing and picking the best images; finally, Photoshop for processing. I got Photoshop Elements on trial. Doesn't work for my purposes.
I need to share and update the metadata / keywords when I go from one program into another. Can't retrieve metadata I set up in Bridge into Lightroom. Same happens with Photoshop, where I can't retrieve keywords I add in Lightroom. It's tedious to write up the keywords again.
    Thanks for your efforts!

  • Using iPhoto 08 with Photoshop Elements v6

I love iPhoto for organizing photos, but want to use Photoshop for editing. Does anyone know the best way to leverage both? i.e. Storing pictures in iPhoto (via external drive) and editing in Photoshop...

    Easy
1 - post in the correct forum - posting iPhoto '08 questions in the iPhoto '09 forum may give you incorrect answers - this one is the same for both versions
2 - go to your iPhoto preferences and set the "edit in" preference to "external editor" and select PhotoShop Elements - now when you select edit it will open PSE and pass the photo to it - when you are done you simply save to return the photo to iPhoto and update the iPhoto database correctly
3 - If you want the option to choose PSE or iPhoto set the "edit in" back up in mail window - now selecting edit will edit in iPhoto and right clicking (control click) on a photo will give you a menu so you can choose PSE or iPhoto

  • How can I make Photoshop Elements import files after it gives incorrect error code?

I had 17,000 photos on my hard drive well organized in folders before installing Photoshop Elements 11 today. I was able to get it to import only 467 into the catalog. I tried browsing, searching, selecting files and no matter what I did to bring inthe remainders (including trying to bring in folders with only 60-80 in each, moving files into new folders, etc.) and still can't see them in the organizer view. It allows me to highlight the folders or highlight the photo jpg files separately, says it is getting media, but then comes back with message that "files are not in correct format or are in the catalog" but they ARE in normal format jpeg, can view in other programs, and they are NOT visible in the catalog. Very frustrating, especially after wasting hours downloading the program from Amazon Marketplace - took hours, then had errors and had to redo twice. Running WIN 7 on 6 month old Sony computer with 8 GB RAM and quad processors. Thanks for any help.

You should try posting in the PhotoShop Elements forum, especially if no one else here has a better suggestion to offer.  It is possible someone else has encountered the same problem and you could search there to see.  If you post there and you do have an error message, you should include the details of that error message.

  • How can I get Photoshop Elements to import photos that it wrongly indicates are wrong or in catalog?

Had 17,000 photos on harddrive before installing Photoshop Elements 11 today. Had them well organized in a number of folders under My Pictures. PS found and imported only 467 photos. I tried Search, Browse, and import Files; was able to highlight folders and individual photo files. When I clicked Get Media, it processed for 20 seconds and came back with message that "Files are not in correct format or are already in the catalog." In fact, they are in the correct format (jpg - able to easily view with other programs) and they are NOT visible in the catalog. I went into Control Panel and enabled the Watch service, listed all of the files that PS had not imported from, and still cannot show more than 467 of my photos. Very frustrating, any suggestions? Running Win 7 on 6-months old Sony that plays Blue-Ray, with 8 GB RAM and quad core Intel processors.

This forum is amazing - thanks to all who responded over the weekend. For future users, some replies I found helpful: 1. allow a lot of time for the cataloging process. I had not realized it would be such a slow and incremental process but a day later it is continuing to add to the catalog - am now up to a couple thousand in the catalog, 2. turning off Organize and Stack visually-similar, and the corrective functions during the initial process speeds things up, 3. go into Control Panel, Administrative, Services and activate the Photoshop Elements watch function as soon as you install Elements, 4. it was helpful to repair/optimize, and 5. if you realize it is really messed up, uninstalling Elements and re-installing may work better than lots of little tweaks and fixes. Now if I can just figure out how to get photos ordered by actual date taken rather than random future dates that my camera or previous version of Elements 8 apparently assigned....

  • Lightroom or Photoshop Elements for administrating huge number of photos?

    Dear photo experts,
at home, we have a huge number of photos we took over years. We are looking for a software able to organize all of them. We currently have:
    Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 (Mac)
    Adobe Lightroom 3 (Mac)
However, for organizing photos we so far use none of them but a third software (here, we are not happy about how it handles our huge catalog of photos).
Our photos are stored on a server (network attached storage), organized by date and event.
I read that Adobe Photoshop Elements cannot organize photos stored on a network drive.
    Now my questions:
    - Can Adobe Lightroom organize photos stored on a network drive?
    - Is Adobe Lightroom capable to organize a huge amount of photos in one single catalog (separating them via tags)?
    What are your experiences?
    Thanks a lot!
    JMickey

I read that Adobe Photoshop Elements cannot organize photos stored on a network drive.
I thought the opposite was true
Can Adobe Lightroom organize photos stored on a network drive?
As we say here in Rochester, NY, YES it can
Is Adobe Lightroom capable to organize a huge amount of photos in one single catalog (separating them via tags)?
Yes, this is one of Lightroom's strengths
    What are your experiences?
I use Lightroom for all of my photo management (yes, I said ALL). I never use the operating system for photo management. Lightroom works great. People here in this forum who have much larger catalogs than I do (over 1/4 million photos) also use Lightroom to manage their photos.

    i click content
and what the hell is this? none can install photoshop! whats wrong?!
the CD with photoshop has only folder

Some developers may not use DMG files. You may end up downloading an Application file itself. In this case, you can drag-and-drop the application file from your Downloads folder to the Applications folder. It will then be installed just like an app that was distributed in a DMG file.
You don’t actually have to install apps to your Applications folder. In fact, you can just place an app in any folder and double-click the application to launch it. Applications are traditionally stored in the Applications folder so they’re organized and located in a single place.

  • Lightroom versus PhotoShop Elements Organizer and Bridge

This is directed to the Adobe Developer Team
I hope someone of the Developer team is reading this!!
For my understanding the three products out of one house (PhotoShop Elements Organizer, Bridge and Lightroom) doing about the same, should ...
work the same (same idea, same behaviour, organizing by path/subfolders instead of cataloges etc.)
maintain the same database and files (LR should recognize the collections from BR and Vice Versa, use the same cache files etc.) and should
be compatible to each other (e.g. Tags, Collections etc)
    Actually I suggest ADOBE
to eliminate Organizer and integrate the good functions into BRIDGE (e.g. albums, upload to flickr, webpage generation etc)
give BRIDGE as the free of charge picture organizer to PS Elements and to PS CS
change LIGHTROOM into an payable upgrade of BRIDGE with enhanced functionality of the free of charge BRIDGE, (which can work as a stand-alone software as it does today
better integration of PSE, PS CS into Bridge/Lightroom (e.g. Panaorama function opens only PS CS but the version of PSE works much better, so I want to choose in the menu of Bridge/Lightroom)
I am really struggling with the three of them.
Beside that I suggest to get rid of the Catalog idea of Lightroom with it's import/export and synchronization needs and instead use or at least integrate the idea of BRIDGE to get pictures structured and organized by path and subfolders, as this is anyhow how the way pictures are stored already for most of us... I asume. I doubt that anybody just throw all files into one big subdirectory and get the organized into cataloges. But please keep collections as they are helpful to quickly collect some pictures to commonly work on them. by drag & drop. The Catalogues of LR drives me crazy but LR have a lot of nice functions (e.g. Webupload interfaces to flickr and others, nice noice reduction, nice albums and webpage functions, etc.)
    Thanks
Merry X-Mas and a Happy New Year
    Georg
PS: Please all of you comment your experience and opinion on this matter ... I am interested what you think about it.

    Hi George,
Whereas Bridge and Photoshop Elements (and most non-LR users) base their organisation on the file / folder structure, Lightroom uses files / folders simply for storage - the catalog is used for organisation. This 'catalog based approach' provides far more flexibility, both in organisation, and in recording a complete, fully-reversible record of all edits made to each photograph.
    To suggest that Adobe "get rid of the Catalog idea of Lightroom" and "get pictures structured and organized by path and subfolders" would remove almost ALL advantages Lightroom has over Bridge & PS Elements combined. To fully appreciate Lightroom, you need to appreciate that files and folders are not the only way to organise photos. Why not watch a few of the Adobe Lightroom Tutorial videos? This link below takes you to a video explaining about the Catalog;
    http://tv.adobe.com/watch/george-jardine-on-lightroom/the-lightroom-catalog/
    However, if you really want Adobe to hear your views, why not raise a Feature request with them, at this link below;
    https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform
I'm sure if you call your feature request 'Remove Catalog from Lightroom, and organise by Folders instead', it'll get noticed, as will any forum posts of the same name...
    Cheers,
    Alan

  • Moving images from iPhoto 11 to Photoshop Elements Organizer

I understand that iPhoto 11 kept all images within the iPhoto Library.  In order to move them into the Adobe Photoshop Elements Organizer, they must be moved to the hard drive of the Mac and then imported into Elements 12 Organizer.
Is there any way to do this in one step?
    Mary Lou

If you want to keep the photos organized by the Events they are currently in use this export setup:
If you want to keep the keywords, titles and descriptions added in iPhoto change Kind to JPEG and set JPEG Quality to Maximum and check both checkboxes.
