Organizing songs by title

I have several hundred Chinese songs on my iPhone. I notice that all the iPhones I've seen in China are able to order Chinese songs alphabetically by pinyin. That is, a song beginning with the character 我 (pronounced wo) will be put under W with other English songs.
However, on my iPhone, all the Chinese songs are dumped into the numbers category with no logical order. It takes me a long time to find Chinese songs this way. I think that iPhones purchased in China are automatically set to organize Chinese songs alphabetically by pinyin, but I cannot find any setting on the iPhone which will let me change the way songs are organized. Does anyone know how to correct this?

Thanks for the reply, it turns out you were right about languages.
It turns out you have to change your phone Language get different orderings. If you change your iPhone language to Traditional Chinese, the songs are sorted by stroke order (一,二,三)but if you use Simplified Chinese the songs are indeed sorted alphabetically with other English songs. Of course, the entire interface is now in Chinese as well.
IMO this is a pretty inconvenient way of doing things on Apple's part, but at least it works. Guess Apple's hinting that if I want to listen to Chinese songs, I have to fully learn the language first. LOL.
Anyways, thanks for the help!

  • Playlists containing songs with titles starting with non-alphabetical characters do not get transferred at all

I was really happy about how the desktop manager lets me choose the songs from my itunes library by playlists! this is smart! I'm also happy to see the playbook render asian characters properly (unlike my experience on the bold!)
However, I have a lot of songs which have titles that begin with non-alphabetical characters, ie asian characters. For all playlists which contains such songs, those songs do not get transferred onto the playbook AT ALL. For example, I have one playlist which contains only songs with titles beginning with asian characters - this playlist was transferred but it is shown as containing zero songs! When I browse my song library by artist/album, I can find all those songs that should be in that/those playlists.
    Can this be fixed?
    thanks.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

as it turns out, it kind of got fixed by itself. what i did (i think, since i have not definitively verified) was i went to browse "all songs" wherein i noticed all thoses songs starting with asian characters seemed to show correctly. then i went back to the playlists in question, and viola!
clearly there is a bug or two in the music player somewhere regarding these title characters. but rim has more urgent things to resolve i guess - like my auto screen lock is still not working!

  • Organizing Songs by Album

    Hi Everyone,
I've only been using iTunes for a few weeks, but so far I really like it.
But I am having one small problem...
I downloaded a couple of albums, and was very happy to see that iTunes groups them according to album in the Library. I would see the name of the album, with a little turn-triangle next to it that would then expand the album. With all the turn-triangles closed I would just see a list of albums.
But then one day I opened iTunes, and instead of these nice neat groups, suddenly all the albums were spread out in one big long list.
I already went into Preferences/Advanced and checked off "Keep iTunes Music folder organized." But it doesn't seem to change anything -- the songs from various albums still appear as one long, disorganized list, along with various singles and podcasts.
Can someone please tell me how to make iTunes keep albums organized again?
    Thanks!

Generally setting a common Album title and Album Artist will fix things.

  • One third of my songs only title recognized.

Hi, I've got about 200 cds and I all imported them into iTunes on my PC years ago.
After a while iTunes crashed so I started using other music programs (foobar and winamp)
Now I bought a macbook and just tried to import al my (perfectly organized) albums into iTunes.
The problem is, about 1/3 of my 2576 songs are only shown as 'xx title' (in wich xx represents track nr)
So no album name, artist, genre or album art.
I first tought it was because it were albums I ripped with other music programs but there are also albums wich I already had since the last time I used iTunes on my PC.
Does anybody know if its possible to make iTunes read the taggs from my songs correctly?
I dont want to rename about a 1000 songs manually
    Thanks in advance.

It's a Total Joke here as well.
I make burn tune folder to throw roughly 10 Audio CD's worth yesterday.
I now just inserted one of the discs made back into PowerBook G4, as it's listed below and the age on the left, and not one track is titled. Just 1 - 19. Thanks'A Lot. What kind a xxxx is this?
So when 4 yr old asks why it's not displayed on the screen in the the truck, just tell them that's not possible on 3RD rock from the sun.
Not one line in help menu includes an option.

  • Suffle Music within Genre and Organizing Songs

Is it possible to create a "spontaneous" mix of music off my computer in iTunes? I know MusicMatch can do this, but I am trying to convert since I just purchased an iPOD. Ideally what I want is to select say 3 hours of Classical music or create an auto generated one time play list that is a mix of classical, jazz and blues.
Another question. Is it not possible to collapse the songs into albums and albums under artists in iTunes. I just transfered about 400 albums to iTunes from MusicMatch and find the way they are currently organized to be overwhelming. Thanks
    Bill

    Hi Bill,
Seems to me that what you want certainly is possible. In fact I'm pretty much satisfied the way iTunes organizes my music collection:
    - On importing a CD it automatically retrieves the CD info (from an online CDDB-site)
    - It will store the titles (if configured correctly) automatically in <iTunes base dir>\<artist>\<album>
    - If you change a songs info (via "Get Info") it will automatically reflect the applicable changes in this directory organization.
It is surely possible to have more navigation help in iTunes: Select Edit -> Show Browser (or <Ctrl>B) to toggle the browser. It shows three columns (if "Genre" is selected too via the preferences pane) : Genre, Artist & Album. If you're looking for an specific artist for example point and click in the "Artist" column and start typing the name of the artist. It will automatically narrow down the selection as you start typing. If the artist is found the albums will show up automatically in the 3rd column. Selecting the album you're looking for will result in only those titles to show up in the title list. I guess this is what you were looking for.
W.r.t. playlists: Have a look at the "smart playlist" functionality. It gives you all the functionality to create very advanced, dynamically updated playlists.
    Hope this helps,
    Jan.

  • Sorting songs by title Numerically?

Is there any way when sorting by song title, to sort Numerically, rather than Alphabetically?
For instance voice memos will appear in the following order:
    10/21/2011
    10/6/2011
    12/14/2011
    12/15/2011
    12/3/2011
    4/29/2011
    5/13/2011
    5/17/2011
Instead I'd like them to sort properly by date. Is this possible?

Change the dates so that they're all in the format yyyy/mm/dd. The files can then be sorted alphabetically which will put them in sequence by date.
Don't skip digits. January third 2012 is 2012/01/03, not 12/1/3.

  • Organizing songs in ZEN just as

Hi there, hopefully someone can help me I have a Zen Sleek, and the problem is organizing the songs the way they are viewed in windows media player: Whenever I select an artist, albums by that artist appears. I can then choose the album and the next screens shows a list of songs on the album. This is quite unusable when you have a lot of artists with 3-4 tracks from 2-3 different albums. What I want is: Select artist, get a list of ALL songs by that artist. This is possible by using the the "all tracks" function, but then the track list is sorted by the alphabet. In windows media player the "All track"-list is sorted by album name and track number within each album. The list for a chosen artist should look like this: Track list: Song (album )2 Song 2 (album )3 etc4 Song (album 2)5 Song 2 (album 2)6 etc7 Song (album 3) I know that the album name won't appear in the list, but I just wan't it to be sorted this way. Thanks a lot! Michael

I'm having exactly the same problem.
I have just installed the?Zen Nano Series Media Explorer on Vista. It is the latest version downloaded from the Creative website. There is definitely no Custom Sort button. I have also installed the latest version of the?firmware (.4.03e), which is supposed to improve the player's compatibility with?Vista.
Previously I was using the same Zen?Nano Plus player on an XP computer with an older version of the Media Explorer software. That version had Custom Sort and it always worked perfectly. I'm surprised there haven't been more posts about this, as it's a very useful function and I shall miss it'sgreatly if I can't get it to work on this new Vista?computer.
Isn't it a bit'sabsurd that?the newest version of the software?has?less functions than an older version?

  • Organizing Songs After Consolidating Your Library

I didn't realize that you should check the box that says "Keep iTunes Music folder organized" before consolidating your library, so the box was unchecked when I consolidated my library. After consolidating my library, I went back and checked that box and hit okay again, and this box came up, saying that it was organizing my songs or whatever. Can I assume then that my songs are still arranged by album, artist, etc.?

Sorry, I'm computer-illiterate, but I'm not sure which one of the folders in my iTunes main folder is the consolidated library. There's one folder called "iTunes Music," which has a bunch of different subfolders, but I think there's some music on there that I deleted from my library, because I didn't want to listen to it anymore. Then there's another thing in my main iTunes folder called "iTunes Music Library," and it has the icon of a dog-eared page with a world on it with these signs: < and > on either side of it and straight lines under it (sorry if i'm not descriptive enough). The only problem with that is that it only has 3.52 MB of stuff on it, and I think I have more than that amount of music on my iPod. When I click on it, it opens a page on the Internet filled with what looks like programming text. Finally, there's a third thing in the main iTunes folder just called iTunes Library, and it has the icon of the dog-eared page with the iTunes symbol on it and the word "Data." When I click on this, it opens iTunes on my computer. Do you have any idea which one of these is my consolidated library? Thanks for your help!

  • Organizing songs by Artist

How can I organize my songs by Artist, both on my Ipod and in the Library? I have multiple songs showing all by the same Artist, but I can't find anyway I can put all the songs under the same Artist.

    I have an ipod nano - 4GB.
I have been using for a while, and have a few housekeeping issues with it. The main one is duplicate artist entries - but not the same duplicate artist entries problem that other people have.
I have ripped the Gorillaz - Demon Days album onto my PC - whenever i rip a CD, I manually check the artist / track title / album info from the "properties" tab on the MP3 file itself from within Windows Explorer - I know its a tedious process - but at least all of the information is correct. I also know that itunes and the ipod get the artist / track title and album info from this source. (All of the information is hidden behind the advanced tab in windows)
    Right - I ripped the album, and on my PC - all of the tracks from the album simply show "Gorillaz" as the artist. When the folder is added to itunes - magically itunes adds some artists from somewhere;
    e.g.
    Gorillaz - Intro
    Last Living Souls
    Kids With Guns
    O Green World
    El Manana
Every Planet We Reach Is Dead
    White Light
    Dare
    Fire Coming Out Of....
    Don't Get Lost In Heaven
    Demon Days
    Gorillaz/Gorillaz - Dirty Harry
    Feel Good Inc
Gorillaz/MF Doom - November Has Come
    Gorillaz/Roots Manuva - All Alone
Now this is really getting on my tits. I cannot find any way of removing the Gorillaz/..... entries. I want all of the tracks from the single album listed under a single artist. I do not care whether Roots Manuva was a co-writer of the song.
What's worse - is where is my PC & itunes getting this information from? It is not in the MP3 file itself, as I have manually overwritten all of this information myself.
I don't understand it - can someone please help???
    Thanks alot.
    Richard

  • ZEN micro: problem with song/album/title/genre renaming after update - pls he

    hi!
after updating my zen micro to the new firmware (playforsure) and the necessary software update of the media source organizer - i wasn?t able to rename the title on the player - like before the update: it'ss only possible to rename them one by one and not e.g. a full album (genre).
BTW: why has the user interface changed that much - all songs i?ve arranged before the update had to be rearranged and that isn?t possible anymore in the way it was before...
    thx

    You can try these two:
    http://www.mp3tag.de/en/index.html
    http://www.snapfiles.com/get/godfather.html
If they're not to your liking, try Google. These are not the only ones, but they're good (and free). Tag & Rename is also very good, but it costs a few bucks.

  • Custom language for particular song's title

    Hi,
I really like VoiceOver feature that reads a title of currently played song when you'll press remote button for a while, but it's not perfect.
My music collection consists of English, Polish, French and few Chinese songs and voice over tries to read it always "in English" (UI language). Only exception are Chinese songs that are being read by different voice in proper Chinese.
How can I set proper language for particular song?
In Nano 5G VoiceOver was generated by iTunes and everyone could define language for particular song, but 6G seems to synthesize speech on iPod, which is not an issue itself.
Issue is that I can't find a way to define language for each song separately.

Right click on the track in itunes and select get info. Then select "Options". On that screen you will see an entry for Language. It is most likely set to "Automatic" just select the language you prefer and you are good to go.

  • Adding song/artist titles?

Is there a way to add song or artist titles manually when gracenote system unable to retrieve them from internet? eg. itunes and ipod show - unknown artist- and lists songs as track 01, track 02 etc. Thanks much in advance for any help.

    Hello skatmaster,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
Yes. In iTunes, right->click on any track you wish to edit and choose *Get Info*. Or you can select multiple tracks at once and edit them all simultaneously as well.

  • HT1711 how do i search for a song by title

How do I search I-tunes store for a song by the title?

Correct, that is what he said.
But if you tap the Store button in the top right corner of the Newstand app, iOS will do it for you and open the Store app to the Newstand apps, but there is no Search feature there. You find the Search feature on the Featured pane, as he said.

  • Song tags/titles

I just "upgraded" to iTunes 7. The only problem I seem to be running into is that if I import a song to the library and change the Artist tag it will be correct until the song plays again, at which point it reverts to what it was before I edited it.
All in all it is screwing up how organized my library is.... Any ideas?

Check the files aren't "read-only"? I'm not sure if iTunes edits ID3 tags or not, but if it's trying to and then being denied then that would explain why it picks the original tag up again.

  • How do I correct song info(titles, artist, etc) itunes misidentified?

I have a few tracks on my ipod/itunes which were automatically designated with incorrect information. How do I correct the information so that itunes properly shows the correct track info?
....Some of these are songs I've made, others are from older cd's I own that itunes 'helped' me by (incorrectly) identifying them.

To change things unique to a track such as the title, right click on one you want to change and choose Get Info and then the Info tab, fill in the details you want and choose Next to move on to the next track in line. To change common information on multiple tracks such as the artist or album name, click on the first track of your album to highlight it, hold down the shift key and click on the last track to highlight everything in between. Right click on the selection and choose Get Info. You'll get a message asking if you want to edit multiple items, say yes. In the info tab change the information you want on all the tracks and choose ok.
