Has anyone seen this issue with MacBooks when downloading mavericks OS X? I have gone back to disk utility and repaired permissions etc. and reinstalled mavericks but no luck? Still getting this wierd pixelated strip at the bottom of the screen and no progression from loading screen?

Hi. My mavericks is crashed and when i on my mac always showstha disk utility window. I do everything like repair and all but not fix this problem. I have no back up of my files. Is there any way to reinstall mavericks without erase my old data ?
To back up your data, either use Target Disk Mode and a cable from another Mac (which mounts your problem Mac as an external disk of the other Mac) and Disk Utility on that other Mac, or — and this is all assuming you either have a slow Internet connection and don't want to use Internet Recovery, or if you have an older Mac that doesn't support Internet Recovery — you can create a bootable USB key disk on another Mac and then boot your problematic Mac from that keydisk, then use Disk Utility from the installer to make a backup to another (external) (scratch) disk. You can also use that keydisk to reinstall OS X, to repair or to reinstall OS X.

My os x mavericks got crashed accidentely while installing the windows 8 and I am trying to reinstall using recovery console, but its take very long time and forcing me to download OS X mountain lion from internet, is there any where can I get offline download of OS file where I can install directely OS X Mavericks.
Hi, original poster here. I did not realize this would generate more discussion so I never checked back. I still had my warranty, so I took it to the store and got it repaired. The original problem I had was a screen with this icon flashing when I attempted to boot it up:
When I took it to the store, they told me that my computer was unable to communicate with the hard drive. I had this same problem three times in two months where this screen reappeared. Each time I went back to the store and they said the cause was different, but they were all hardware issues that physically made it impossible to communicate with the hard drive. After the third time, they simply replaced my laptop and I haven't had the same problem.
So in short: The reason you can't reinstall or move anything when you encounter this screen appears to be because nothing can communicate with the hard drive in the first place. You can't reach the disk or anything on it. So I don't believe it's possible to do anything besides take it to a physical store and have it fixed. -
My Mavericks upgrade crashed my hard drive and I had to reinstall Mountain Lion. Now I cannot get any of the apps that I purchased to download. The icons on the launchpad just say "waiting" no matter what I try. My app store ID is fine. What do I do?
Are you now using a different username from the one you used prior to migrating? If so that is the reason for the problem. You might, then, give this a try:
To fix Home folder permissions
Open the Terminal application in the Utilities folder. At the command line prompt enter or paste the following command line:
sudo chown -R `id -un`:`id -gn` ~
Press RETURN. You will be prompted to enter your admin password which will not be echoed. -
Mavericks started crashing on MBP 15 two days ago
Hi! I have a problem with my MacBookPro. It is from around july 2007 and already had its motherboard swapped for the black screen problem a couple of years ago, but it worked fine until this week. Two days ago it started freezing after a couple of minutes every time I login, something between 2 and 12 minutes, more or less. Needless to say that it is completely useless this way. Recovery mode works, I could verify/Repair the Mac partition, but not much else. I also got a Windows 7 Home installed on the machine, and that one works without problems, so I guess it must have been some bug introduced with one or other software actualization lately. I can't really do anything with the machine on OS X anymore, recently it froze two times while I tried to reset the password for my time capsule so I could access the time machine backup from the recovery mode. It also froze while installing the latest security update from safe mode today. 'Froze' means mouse is dead, keyboard is dead, progress bar stops, no reaction apart from forced power down.
Now, as I am writing this from this same machine under Windows, I wonder what is the best way to get OS X up and running again. Is there a way to download an installation image of the OS for, say, Version 10.9.4 with Windows, burn it to disc and restart from there? I don't really see any download option there. Also - would it be worth trying Yosemite instead of a slightly older Mavericks version?Hi!
Here is the report. I have had two more crashes while operating firefox and Preview with Intego software stopped. This last times the machine did not restart, but just kept displaying the frozen display, even when closing the lid, with no reaction from the mouse or the keyboard apart from forced power down working - with nothing in the log files with a timestamp matching or nearing the clock display.
Problem description:
MacBook Pro running Os X 10.9.5 with Security Update 2014-005 v1.0 installed keeps crashing/restarting with no apparent reason (Re: Mavericks started crashing on MBP 15 two days ago)

Does Java 7 cause OS X Mavericks to crash?
Dear Apple Support Community,
I have recently updated to Java version 7 update 67, to support the retina display capabilities of my Macbook Pro with third party software (Matlab R2014a, Mathworks). Mavericks has crashed several times since the update. Each crash occurred while different programs were running ; the system froze and became completely unresponsive – forcing a manual shutdown by holding the power button.
Are there known issues using Java 7 with OS X Mavericks? And are there any known solutions?
Many thanks,
this_username_is_takenDear Linc & Disguise,
It is possible that believe that I had opened and closed Matlab before each crash. Console output follows.
Thanks,
this_username_is_taken

How do I access files that have been recovered (after a Mavericks problem) with the .cca file extension
First, to access documents you must use an app designed for that specific Document type. So Pages will not be able to open PDFs. The Documents app by Readdle can handle PDFs though. In the latter case, you'd open the app, click the menu icon at its top left, and click Open to go to your iCloud Drive. With Pages, if you had files outside the main Pages folder, click + then iCloud and navigate to the file's location.

I had to restore my IMac back via Time Machine because Mavericks keeps crashing
I had to restore my IMac back via Time Machine because Mavericks keeps crashing on install, it gets down to less then one minute, and I get a white screen with the apple in the middle. Now I have version 10.8.5, but if I try to download again it states that I need version 10.7. Now How do I get 10.7, and dowload Mavericks?? Help
You shouldn't need 10.7. Something is messed up with the App Store.
3 things you can try.
1. - Sign out of the App Store (in the Store menu)
- Quit the App Store
- In Finder - Go>Go to folder... (or Apple-shift-G)
- Paste in the following "~/Library/Caches/ "
- It will take you to a folder. Delete com.apple.appstore
- Launch the App Store.
2. Try resetting the App Store.
Reset Learned from Old Toad
3. Spotlight – Re-index
You can also try creating another admin user and see if you can download it there. -
I have a Macbook Pro 2011 model, 2.4ghz and 4GB memory running current Mavericks. Has been working completely fine up until the other day.
At first it started acting a bit sluggish, freezing on some apps and them taking a while to open. Then out of nowhere it fully froze to the point where I had to power off using the power button. Since then only core applications will open. Safari, mail, utilities etc all open fine and just run slowly, Safari in particular can take over a minute to load a page. Pretty much all of the other applications won't open. Chrome was the first to stop working, then Word, Pages and some games. I click on them on the dock and the icon bounces up and down but they just never open.
I've searched on this forum and tried some of the suggestions. I tried repairing disk permissions but it hasn't done anything, tried repairing the disk but it hasn't done anything. The hard drive is 1TB and has 400GB of free space so it's not overly full.
The first thing I did when the problem occured was to check activity monitor to see if anything was rinsing my CPU. Everything seemed normal with usage at about 15% with only one app open. After restarting I have the same problem, but now CPU is at nearly 100% usage with only Safari running. Some of the applications I can't actually open are appearing on the processes list but not appearing as open.
Problem still exists during Safe Mode, and I have no current back ups to revert to. All I can think to try is to back up currently with Time Machine and then to Reinstall the OSX or possibly do a full restore. Would the problem I'm facing not come back immediately when I restore to my back up, thus effectively making the restore pointless?
Is there anything else you can suggest to try?
Thanks in advance for any helpEncountered same problem, solved by downloading Prokit 4.5 and installing, then Aperture started right up. Good luck.

Mac OS Mavericks is crashing on my macbook Pro
I have a Macbook Pro Processor: 2.66Ghz Intel Core i7 Memory: 8GB DDR3i recently upgraded to mavericks after that my laptop got very slow, also now it has started to crash a lot of times. while running the screen just becomes white and there is this message comes: "your system has been restrted due to some reason" .. blah blah blah after that when i restart my laptop it takes a lot to time to come back to senses as it does spotlight indexing and all that all over again.
Also i am facing many issues with USB evga connector(USB to VGA); the monitor which is connected via EVGA is runnig very slow with quite a lag, after installing mavericks which was working prefectly with mountain lion.
After facing all these problems I believe that the number of issues that have been introduced are more that number of features in mavericks. People at apple just can't keep up the quality without "Steve Jobs". Its all over windows again.Hardware Information:

Mavericks Finder crashes - Without Google Drive
Hi Everyone,
So - I decided to upgrade to Mavericks last weekend, finally sick of being unable to use a couple of apps that I REALLY wanted, which no longer support Lion.
Thinking that I had heaps of time on Sunday, I started the upgrade and left my 2010 MBP to itself - having recently gone through the same process on our 2007 iMac, I figured that it'd pretty much look after itself.
And so it did, so much so that I actually sort of forgot about it and only came back to it late Sunday. Running short on time then, I gave it a cursory glance and confirmed that I could login and see the more important files to be used for work Monday morning, so I didn't worry too much, that is until I had played around a little.
As it turns out, finder crashes relatively frequently, since the upgrade. At first I thought that the problem might be related to permissions, having seen upgrade of other OSs go wrong as a result of such things, however, I noticed that the mainstay of the issues seemed to be tied to my home directory, so that suspicion quickly went out the window again. Basically, whenever I open finder in my home directory, finder crashes... I can use terminal to go to a sub-directory and open it and, most of them, work fine. The biggest culprits right now, seem to he ~ and /Users - both of which cause finder to crash.
So I thought that perhaps, there was an issue with my finder preferences. I did a bit of googleing and found a number of comments suggesting that I clear out .DS_Store and the preference files - I have done this, with and without reboots/logout/restart of finder - none of it made a difference.
Next, I thought that I'd give it a try in safe-mode just to see what'd happen. So I rebooted in safe-mode and logged in - with the shift key held down - I opened finder and had JUST enough time to get excited, before it decided - once again - to crash on me.
Several of the finder crashing articles that I found, seemed to suggest that google drive could be the culprit, but as I haven't got it installed, I figured that it was worth a try to get rid of Skydrive and Dropbox in stead... While I was at it, I cleaned out some old kexts and Launch stuff that I wasn't using anyway - might as well try to clean up and hope for the best. After a reboot, I went at it again, with quivering fingers... Same result, I open a finder window to my home dir, get a flash then a crash.
In a final fit of frustration, I turned off the Spotlight indexer and the Timemachine backups - none of it has made an ounce of difference... Just ot make extra sure, I even created a new user account... The user logs in fine and everything is beautiful, until I go to /Users and get another crash, so it definitely seems to be directory related somehow.
This is the output from the crash - I'm hoping someone can spot something here
Thanks, in advance.

14Hi Everyone,
So - I decided to upgrade to Mavericks last weekend, finally sick of being unable to use a couple of apps that I REALLY wanted, which no longer support Lion.

Evertime I try to print from CS5 running iMac w?Maverick CS5 crashes
Running CS5 on iMac with Maverick, every time I attempt to print CS5 crashes.
Just posted identical issue, almost 4 months after yours. I don't expect any replies since you've had none, so wondered if you were able to solve the problem?
cheers, Robert
MY POST:
CS5 crashes when attempting to print, os 10.9.4 Mavericks

ROBERT HALLEWELL Sep 3, 2014 11:06 AM
Just a few days ago migrated from older iMac running 10.6.8 to new iMac running 10.9.4
I have the PS (and Indesign CS5) disc but am reluctant to attempt a reinstall, based on forum items where things were made worse
At the moment my work around is to print in Indesign. -
My work iMac keeps crashing, 2 or 3 times a day sometimes. It was a brand new iMac which came delivered with Mavericks pre-installed and is only about 3 months old.
My colleague's iMac, same spec and age, also has the same problem. We work in a design and web development environment and both have similar software installed, so I am presuming the problem must be software related.
Looking at the Reports below I just thought I would clarify the following. My colleagues iMac doesn't have the following apps installed: -
Virtual Box
MAMP
We both have these apps in common (there are others, but these are the only ones I noticed in the reports below): -
Adobe Creative Cloud
Spotify
Linotype FontExplorer
I have installed and run EtraCheck. Here is the report: -

Why is my Mavericks MBR crashing when screensharing?
If I'm on a call, screensharing, I get logged out of Mavericks seemingly randomly. Usually takes a couple of minutes to happen
Have read lots about problems with Virtual machines (which I use), and Skype and GoToMeeting, but various combinations are all causing the problem.
I've just installed Parallels 9 (latest update I assume, as it tells be I have the latest version when I check), and it contains a Win 7 VM. I made sure I had it running when I was screen sharing via GoToMeeting, but I still experienced the randon Log Out crash on my 2013 MBPRetina running latest version of Mavericks.
Previously I was working with Virtual Box and experiencing the same problem which screensharing on Skype or GoToMeeting.
I think Mavericks itself is to blame. It doesn't seem to matter which combos I use - I still get the crashes. Wish I had never "upgraded" to it, as I had no issues at all on Mountain Lion.
Never was a new OS version more aptly named.
I am a relatively new Mac convert (last year), and was quite happy until I upgraded to Mavericks.
Not particularly technical either.
Is there any consensus on where this problem lies. You can look at the console (in your applications/utilities folder) for system messages when the problem occurs. That often provides hints as to what happened. Most likely the winder server crashed and it could be graphics driver related to Mavericks. If that is the case, then you may not see any improvement until a later version of Mavericks is released.
Lots of very smart people here so post what you see in the console during the problem. If you post all your console messages then no one will read it (it will contain tons of stuff). -
Captivate 7 (w/ OS X Mavericks Update) Crashing AFTER opening document.
System: iMac, 27-inch, mid 2010
Processor: 3.2 GHz Intel i3
OS: OS X 10.9 (Mavericks)
Captivate Version: 7.0.1.237
I have several Captivates authored entirely in Captivate 7 on this same machine that will silenty crash after opening the document. The document will remain open for anywhere between 1 - 5 seconds and then Captivate will simply close. No fanfare. No notification. Just gone.
Observations:
Launch Captivate alone with no document - this appears to be stable.
Launch document directly by double-clicking on document - May crash
Launch Captivate first then double-click on document in finder - May crash
Launch Captivate then open document from within Captivate "Open" menu - May crash
Any combination of above with large number of open applications (i.e. Flash, Photoshop, Chrome, iTunes etc...) - May crash
Any combination of above with no open applications (i.e. Flash, Photoshop, Chrome, iTunes etc...) - May crash
Launch Captivate file on PC - this appears to be stable. No issues launching same files on a PC.
Oddly enough, this issue seems to resolve itself at random. After making several attempts to open the same document, it will finally remain so. It can be fully edited, saved and published after that. However, the next document (even if it is the same one) may start crashing again.
Has anyone else encountered this problem or know of a fix?Hi there
While I cannot offer a fix, I would strongly encourage you (and others) to report as a bug to Adobe.
