OS10.4.3 Installation on a G3 (266MHz unit)

I cannot install OS10.4.3 on my G3 (Grey 266MHz) desktop unit. Apple tech cannot tell me what the minimum speed requirement is. I have heard that it has to be over 350+ MHz. I have a DVD drive, over 500Mbytes of RAM, and over 15 Gbyte of open storage on the computer. I have OS 9.2.2 and OS10.1 on my system right now.
I have also been told that the highest software my computer can handle is 10.2.9. Any truth to that either?
Thanks for any advice.

Built-in FireWire [my emphasis]
DVD drive for installation
256MB of RAM
3GB of available hard disk space (4GB if you install the developer tools)
Firewire that is built-in means built-in by Apple at the factory. Any Firewire you might have on a 266 Mhz G3 would come from a third party PCI card, and thus not built-in, and thus not supported.

yes, bigger RAM better for Windows 8.1 64 bit
and you can install a 64-bit version of Windows 8.1, but you'll need to buy it as a DVD and perform a clean installation. You won't be able to keep any files, settings, or apps when you update from a 32-bit to a 64-bit version.
Please note that the Windows 8.1 Pro Pack is used to upgrade from

  • Blackberry 10.1.0.273 Installation Problems

    Hi.
I have this issue with my Blackberry Z10 that it randomly reboots/restarts once/twice to thrice a day so I read resolutions on this and I saw that OS 10.1 could solve this so I checked updates through Device Update and saw an available 10.1.0.273 update. I successfully downloaded it but along the installation of the software, my unit restarted on its own and once opened again, the installation was very slow as it was before and the worst thing is that I cant open anything. Text Messages, Pictures, Videos, BBM, I can open my contacts but I cannot make a call and I cant even open the calendar. I cant open any applications but settings. Please help me to resolve this. The software should've resolve the rebooting issue but the installation made my smartphone worst.

  • Can recieve but not send emails, although outgoing server settings look ok.

I am able to receive email, but I am not able to send email. I have run the connection doctor - My email connects to the internet; I connect to the incoming mail server, but I am not able to connect to the Outgoing Mail Server.
I have looked at the settings on the outgoing server 'edit server list' and they appear fine. The smtp address is ok, as is the username and password. I have selected 'Use Default Ports 25, 465, 587', as usual. Still it won't connect to the Outgoing Mail Server. It was working fine 24 hours ago, and I haven't changed anything... It now says that both of my outgoing servers are offline, although my colleagues can all send emails from these servers, the problem is only with my laptop.
Any ideas? I have emails that urgently need to be sent.
    Thanks in advance!

I am in an identical boat! Except that in my case it is a result of having re-installed OS10.5.8 (archive install) over 10.6.2 (as the latter was causing more trouble than advantage).
In another thread, procedure for re-set included erasing "com.apple.mail.plist", but I don't have one
The 'network diagnostics' button is greyed out in 'connection doctor'; maybe irrelevent since internet and incoming emails to one of 2 accounts are working. But also Connection Doctor shows doubled-up accounts, probably 1 set originating from connection protocol during OS10.5.4 installation when I was guessing at the settings and the other from editing the preference panes to those I have working fine on my G4 powerbook (not identical as that is in 10.4.11 & Mail 2.1)

  • Boot Camp Setup for Win Vista/7: "The short-short version"

This tip's dedicated to all those who want a detailed instruction manual, but for whatever reason don't want to read through Apple's Boot Camp Installation and Setup Guide @ http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp .  But before I copy this from the thread that started it, let's make clear what shouldn't work and thus should be avoided:
Per the Boot Camp Win 7 FAQ from Apple, no 2006 model will be supported for installation or upgrade, though many units would in fact meet the bare hardware requirements for 7.  Upgrading from Vista might work better, but there's absolutely no guarantee that all features will work.  Do not post a question asking for support of the unsupported.
For reasons known only to Apple, the 2007 models are not considered "64-bit pure" and as such, Apple will not allow 64-bit Windows on 2007 units.  Empirical evidence from around the Web--even here-- may suggest the contrary, but again, this is unsupported.
The 2010 lines are the last to support Vista in any form or fashion, excepting the late '10 Air, which falls to the final point...
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THINGS SACRED: Do not post questions asking to support any version of Windows other than 7 on the 2011 lines thus far, or anything in future.  The only way to get Vista or prior on these things is through a VM emulator! We can help you set one up.
AHEM!  Now, on to the guide:
Make sure you have everything square on the Mac side first with software and firmware updates.  Launch Software Update and run it until nothing is left to update.
Now, it's on to the Boot Camp Assistant.  Launch this from/Applications/Utilities, and follow the prompts.  For the 2011 models, you'll get the chance to burn a dedicated software CD for the first time since the beta.  Use this in place of the install discs below.
Move your Windows partition slice so that you have, say, 50 GB for Windows.  This can actually be any size above 40 GB.  Windows 7 x86 needs about 20 GB during installation alone, though actual used space is much less once it's installed.  The same applies to the x64 version, but let's give that one, say, 60 GB or more as some files may be duplicated for the two different "architectures" in that version to run concurrently.  As to which architecture to choose, you need the 32-bit version for the '07's or if you have a nest of old hardware or software laying about; go with the 64-bit version if you have a newer Mac with scads of RAM or just want better performance out of what you have.
When you've apportioned your hard disk space, get your Windows DVD out and let Boot Camp start it.  If you missed this step, you can insert the DVD later and hold the C key as the Mac starts.
If your unit shipped with OS X 10.6, have your Install Discs handy.  If you upgraded from 10.5, then the 10.6 upgrade DVD will do.  We'll soon use either one.
During the Windows Setup process, you'll be asked to do an upgrade or custom install.  Choose Custom, which will take you to a partitioning screen.
On the partitioning screen, you must click Advanced and then select the volume tagged BOOTCAMP.
You will then have to click Format while the BOOTCAMP volume is highlighted.    Click Yes to confirm.  Wait for about a minute while NTFS structures are laid on this volume, and then hit Next.
Let the Setup program finish out the install, then add your Product Key and set up your Windows account. (Vista puts the Product Key prompt at Step 6 instead)
Since the soft-eject key at the top of your keyboard won't have a driver yet, you'll be removing the Windows disc as follows:
    Click Start, Computer.
    Select the DVD icon.
Click Eject in the upper toolbar of the Computer window.
Now, insert your Mac install disc (or 10.6 upgrade) and run the Setup file when prompted by AutoPlay.  This will start Boot Camp 3.0.  Follow the wizard through (there's only one option for Apple Software Update, so take it as you hit Next several times.).
From here, you may restart in Mac OS at points in this walkthrough.  To avoid this, hold the Option key to bring up a boot menu, then click Windows.
(TIP: You'll be working in Windows for a while, so you can hold Control as you click Windows in the boot menu, to make it "persistent". You can also switch back to Mac OS by the same when you are done.).
Back in Windows again, run Apple Software Update to pick up any and all fixes for your new Boot Camp package.  You could be doing this 2-3 times.  Repeat until no required updates remain.
Do the same for Windows Update as well. The tip above will save a finger or three.
Once all updates are in, add your favorite software, and you're done.
    Good luck installing Windows!
    Nate

  • Why are there 2-sets of IMAGE UNITS in Motion 5?

I seem to have 2-sets of Image Units in my Motion 5 library:
The first set has an icon exactly like the Filters icon; the second set has an icon exactly like the Generators icon.
I have read elsewhere online that it appears not everyone has the first set of Image Units, that perhaps it has something to do with running OS 10.7 Lion, but this has not been confirmed.  I am currently running Lion, and I do have these Image Units, but they do not seem to do anything when I put them in the Timeline.
Some examples of these Image Units are: 1) Glass Distortion, 2) Glass Lozenge, 3) Copy Machine (transition)... there are 123 of these in the Image Units folder, and it looks like they might do some really cool things if I could get them to work.  If I cannot get them to work then I'd like to remove them from the Motion library, if only I could figure out how to do that as well.
If I right-click on the Motion application icon and choose "Show Package Contents" these Image Units do not appear anywhere, and a Spotlight search for "Image Units" does not reveal anything significant either.
Please help me figure out 1) What is this second set of Image Units?
                                          2) If not everyone has them, how did I get mine?
                                          3) How do I get them to work?
                                          4) If they do not work, how do I remove them?
    Thanks so much!

    1) the 2nd set of Image Units are actually Generators, which means, when applied to the canvas, you will get a Generator Pane in the inspector. You cannot add a generator Image Unit to another object and affect it's appearance as you can with a Filter Image Unit.
You can Apply Filter Image Units to Generator Image Units... LOL but not vice versa.
***STAY AWAY FROM RANDOM GENERATOR*** it does NOT belong to Motion -- it belongs to Core Image and is accessible in Quartz Composer (there are others too, in the filter image units... they will appear to do "nothing" [all of the Area XXXX filters are such])  Clicking on Random Generator has been known (and does for me as well) to crash Motion.  If you want or need a random number, use the Numbers generator and click the Random checkbox. For everything else, use the wriggle behavior.
    2) Everybody is supposed to have them. If they don't, something screwed up in the installation.
    3) Filter Image Units will have parameters under the Filter Tab of the selected object under the heading of the Filter Name or the name you give it in the Layers palette. [Generator Image Units answered in #1]
    4) You can't, and you don't want to: they belong to the System (Core Image); but for the ones that do nothing or can crash Motion, you will just have to learn to avoid them.

  • Existing state of packages has been discarded...

    Hi all,
I know this is a long shot and probably you need more details to help, but please take a look in case you've encountered something similar before... It is a pretty interesting problem.
Ok, I have two packages, say, A and B. Package A is composed of utility functions, and package B makes use of those functions. These packages are compiled as part of the schema installation, where package A is always compiled first. I also have unit test scripts for each procedure in each package.
Now, after schema installation, when I run the unit test for some procedures in package B, I get the following error:
ORA-04068: existing state of packages has been discarded
ORA-04065: not executed, altered or dropped stored procedure "my_schema.pkg_A"
ORA-06508: PL/SQL: could not find program unit being called
    ORA-06512: at "my_schema.pkg_B", line 18
    ORA-06512: at line 5
    Some interesting notes:
    - I can run the unit test of all pkg A procedures. I can also describe the package. Which seems to me that pkg A has been compiled successfully.
    - If I log into a sqlplus session, run the unit test for a pkg B procedure, which then fails with the above message. Then I run a unit test of a pkg A proceudre, which succeeds. Then I run the same pkg B unit test, it will work then. And all the other pkg B procedures will work from this point on.
    - But if I log out from sqlplus session, and log in again, and run the pkg B procedure unit test again, it will fail as before.
    - Certain procedures in pkg B have no problem running. They also call pkg A procedures. However, the pkg A procedures are always invoked in the where or order by clauses in these cases. The pkg B procedures that call pkg A procedure in a standalone statement will always fail.
    - The fact above made me suspect that function-based indexes (which were created using pkg A procedures) were used in cases where pkg B procedures work. And that in those cases pkg A hasn't really been invoked. However, when I monitor those indexes using v$object_usage, it shows they are not used. (I have a very small set of data.)
    - After schema installation, if I compile pkg B again, the problem will disappear.
Does this ring a bell to anyone? Any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Gloria Chung

    Thanks for reading and responding.
I'm compiling both header and body for both packages.
I ran the following query after schema installation, which returned 0:
    select count(*) from user_objects where status='INVALID';
The schema installation involved putting new copies of both package A and B.
If I only recompile the package body after installation, it will still 'cure' the problem. I.e. if I run any of the affected pkg B unit test, it will run successfully.
It is assumed there is no schema before 'schema installation'.
    Thanks,
    Gloria

  • Bug - PDF export missing brush strokes

Can anyone reproduce this apparent bug in FHMX?
    1. Apply a brushstroke to an object.
    2. Group with 'Transform As Unit' checked.
    3. Duplicate object several times. Scale some of the copies
    larger and some
    smaller.
    4. Export document to PDF.
Open exported PDF in Acrobat, Illustrator or Preview.
    Unexpected results:
All of the scaled copies of the object are missing from the
    PDF.

    Wow! Yes! Same here.
Any transforms done to an object after being grouped with
    'Transform As
Unit', are being ignored by the PDF Export.
This series of steps will produce the same problem described
    by Makate.
    1. Apply a brushstroke to an object.
    2. Duplicate object and move it to another location on page.
    3. Group the duplicate object with 'Transform As Unit' (TAU)
    checked. Then
    scale it larger.
    4. Export document to PDF.
    Unexpected results:
The duplicate object will be the same size as the original
    object.
This will happen not only with brush strokes but with
    ordinary strokes. PDF
Export is missing all transformations made after TAU is
    applied. If I
remember correctly, TAU, which has been in FH since very
    early versions, is
a kind of Postscript envelope. My theory is that because FH
    doesn't have a
Postscript interpreter, it's missing the Postsript
    transformations.
This limitation in PDF Export is very unfortunate because the
    default
preference setting in a new FH installation is "Groups
    transform as unit by
default". It is the logical way to preserve the appearance of
    artwork with
strokes, brush strokes and vector effects. New users could
    not possibly know
that this is one of the many limitations of PDF export. It's
    not listed in
the technote, but it may be the reason for 'missing objects'.

  • Please help! New PC with Windows 7, now won't give option for duplex Color Laserjet 2605dn

Hi everyone,  I'm hoping someone can help.  I have an HP Color Laserjet 2605dn, and after 4 years with a Dell laptop (and Windows XP) I had to get a new computer, this one with Windows 7.  When I plugged in the printer for the first time, it loaded drivers and seemed to work great - EXCEPT there is NO option for duplex printing in the effects or finishing areas.  So I went to the HP website and downloaded the Universal Print Driver, which DOES have duplex, but it won't print to the 2605dn printer!!!
I am ready to throw this out the window.  I don't recommend buying anything new while you have PMS...hahahaha.  Seriously, if someone could help, my stress level would drop dramatically.  I print a lot, and not doing it duplex would waste so much paper!
    Thanks in advance.

Enable the duplexer as described in the Vista / Windows 7 Duplex Troubleshooting Guide as follows:  go to Start, Devices and Printers, right click on the printer, Printer properties, Device settings, Installable Options, set the "Duplex unit for 2-sided printing" to installed, OK.

  • Delivery Purgatory

I purchased a dishwasher on Friday, 12/12/14 from the Destin FL store, to be delivered locally on the following Monday.   The purchase was to include delivery, installation and haul away of the old unit. The salesperson told me that delivery would be between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., but that I would receive a call on Sunday to establish a more specific time.  When I had not received a call by 5 p.m. on Sunday, I began to attempt to contact the store, using the number given.  After long waits and being disconnected a number of times, I finally reached a person who said I would receive a call after 7 p.m. that evening to establish delivery.  I never received a call.  On Monday morning, my attempts to contact the Destin store were never answered. Because the only additional contact information on the website was the e-mail of the store manager and the assistant store manager, I began attempting to contact them by e-mail. I received a return e-mail from the manager that I would receive a call from the store.  The call never came.  Finally, at about 3 p.m., after missing a day of work and other productive activities, the delivery team showed up at the house and left the dishwasher in the garage. When asked about installation, the delivery person stated that a third party would have to install the unit but had no idea on how to contact the 3rd party or when I could expect the installation.  I again began to try contacting the store, by phone, but was unable to reach a party who could give me any more information regarding the installation.  I again e-mailed the manager, who responded to my e-mail that someone would contact me regarding the installation issue.  He indicated in the e-mail that I had not purchased installation services.  I responded to him that I had requested installation and would be happy to pay for it if it had not been properly scheduled at the time of purchase.  I am sure that I had requested the installation because the sales person had informed me that the old unit would have to be emptied prior to the time of delivery, in ordered to be “hauled away.”  Despite the manager's assurances that someone would call, I never received a call back.  By Thursday, 12/18/14, when I had still not received a call about installation, I had it installed by another party.  On Friday, 12/19/14, without any prior notice, the Best Buy installer knocked at the front door, with the intention of installing the dishwasher.  The installer was informed that the unit had already been installed. It seems to me that over a period of 5 days (Monday – Friday) we could have at least received at least one call or email regarding the installation. I can forgive the poor communication between a Friday purchase and a Monday delivery during a busy holiday period. However, the lack of communication regarding the installation after being assured on Monday by the manager it would be taken care of is totally unacceptable.
I have purchased several appliances from other Best Buy locations in the past and never experienced any problems with scheduling of delivery or installation/haul away.
However, this was my first purchase from the Destin store. I found that communication and execution of the delivery to be essentially non-existent at all levels of staff; from the store manager to the salesperson to the delivery team.

    Greetings Tired-in-Destin,
Being without a dishwasher can certainly cause quite the hassle. I'm glad to hear that you chose to shop with us for your appliance, and that this is not your first appliance purchase with us. Typically phone calls are provided the evening before to give you a delivery window.
I apologize if you did not receive this phone call, and if you no one from the store was able to provide it to you during your calls and emails throughout the day. I'm sure this would have been very comforting and helpful in planning your day. I'm glad to hear that they did show up on the delivery date, and apologize if you were not provided the installation and haul away that you expected.
Using the email address you registered with the forum, I was able to locate and review the purchase. Sadly, it doesn't appear that installation or haul away were added to the purchase, and I am truly sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused if you requested these services. I'm happy to find that you were able to get the dishwasher installed. Of course, notifying you in regards to the installation would have been pleasant and helpful for your experience
I'm grateful that you chose to share this experience with us.  I hope that this experience hasn't negatively influenced your future shopping destination. If you should have any questions, please let me know.

  • LAP1142 with different regulatory domains on each wireless

Hi, I wonder if anyone has come across this before:
We've seen an AIR-LAP1142-E-K9 wireless access point - one of a batch on the pre-used market although I understand that they have been simply removed from the original user - where the regulatory domain on each of the radios is different.
The 2.4GHz radio is 802.11bg:-E and the 5GHz radio is 802.11a:-A (as reported by the controller).
This is really strange as the AP shows itself to be the Product/Model Number             : AIR-LAP1142N-E-K9
And the radio circuit board contains the circuitry for both radios so it's not that the wrong board has been installed for the A radio.
I don't know the software version that is running on the controller - and I've tried a bug search but that hasn't turned up anything useful (yet).
Has anyone here seen anything like this or offer any explanation?
    Thanks in advance
    Robin

That's what I thought, Scott, but I've had one of these to pieces and both radios are driven from the one circuit board...
I did wonder if there was a bug in the firmware level on the WLC but I don't have access to it to check.  Especially since others from the same batch are reported to have worked without problems - we ourselves have had some - and they are reported to have worked fine in their original installation (these are pre-owned units).
Oh well, I guess this will remain a mystery.  Thanks to everyone who replied.
