Outgoing email sits in Drafts since 10.4.6 update

Hi All
Since upgrading to 10.4.6 (and I'm not saying that this is necessarily the cause here), emails I send using Mail.app go to the sent box as normal, but also appear in the Drafts folder a short time after sending. I have been able to confirm in most cases so far that messages have actually been sent, but obviously this is still worrying.
Has anyone else had a similar experience, or a possible fix? Many thanks in advance.

Hi Philip,
This was reported by several people, prior to the update to 10.4.6. I have experienced it in very limited fashion, where only about 45 messages have done this, out of many hundreds. It seems to be more annoyance, than problem.
Removing the Drafts.mbox from the account folder might solve, this, but I have not tested the results for this particular problem since I cannot get Mail to do this very often. There is no risk anything, except to any Drafts you wish to preserve. Let me know if you want to try this.

Why did my outgoing email start acting up since I did latest update?

ever since I did the OSX update 10.8.5 my outgoing email has become very eratic. Incoming email is no problem. I keep getting this message
"connections to the host on the default ports failed. Please try another server"
this happens about 2 out of every 3 atempts to send email. It was never a problem prior to the OS unpdate. 1 out of every 3 sent emails go through without any issues

Cannot delete email sitting in "drafts" - at all

Hi. Goofy problem. A month ago I tried to send an inappropriately large email to a friend. It was just too big (IDK what I was thinking). It didn't get sent and now just sits in my 'drafts' folder. I am not able to delete it. I can't figure out where to find it in the bowels of my iMac TO delete from Finder.
Can anyone tell me how to get rid of this goofy stuck email? I'd really appreciate it.

Try mailing the draft to yourself, and then deleting it from your inbox. This is a Leopard bug - I don't know if it has been fixed in the latest update.

Outgoing emails stripped of content since last security upgrade

Help I am losing all content. Recipients are seeing normal headers but blank body.

Restart your mac
Safe Boot: Hold down the shift key after the chime until the Apple logo appears and the gear is moving.
It will take awhile but you will be asked to login.
Go to your Applications folder> Utilities and launch Disk Utility.
In the left side column, highlight your drive and repair permissions.( button down below)
Empty the trash.
Restart your mac.

Deleted emails keep coming back since the last big update on my macbook pro

Ever since the update that removed the ability to work with spaces on my mac, I have had issues with deleted emails coming back, even after deleting more than once. Very frustrating.
Side note: I preferred using the spaces function when moving from email to internet to other programs. Not a huge fan of the updated function.

Problems such as yours are sometimes caused by files that should belong to you but are locked or have wrong permissions. This procedure will check for such files. It makes no changes and therefore is not, in itself, a solution.
First, empty the Trash, if possible.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combinationcommand-C:

Snow Leopard breaks quite a few drivers - my Canon exhibited the same problem.
I eventually found updated drivers on the Canon website. You can try that with the HP, but if the all-in-one is more than a year or so old, don't hold your breath.
You can also try Software Update to see if it will offer new drivers, or failing that go to the Support Downloads site and search for HP updates.
In fact there's a new one for HP at the top of the list just now.
You may not necessarily want the latest one, though - check the specs to see if your model is covered; if not, search for the previous update etc.

How do I move drafts stored in my email site or area to a zip or thumb drive, so I can get them off my computer

I store bills and receipts on under my email in the drafts area. I want to move these to a zip or thumb drive so I can get them off my computer, but can get them if I need them in future. I have not been
able to move these drafts over into my documents on my computer, nor can i get them copied to the

Firefox doesn't do email, it's strictly a web browser.
If you are using Firefox to access your mail, you are using "web-mail". You need to seek support from your service provider or a forum for that service.

No outgoing email since downloading Leopard upgrade

Downloaded the lengthy Leopard upgrade yesterday, now any outgoing email is stopped with the statement, "SMTP server doesn't support authentication - check settings". I went through all settings with the cable company (Charter) tech support and he concluded the problem was with Apple. I went through the Apple posted troubleshooting routine with no help. My Imac with OS-X 10.3 wired into the Airport device works fine.

I'm replying to my own issue. After a long discussions with both Charter and Apple tech support, the only solution was to re-install OS X 10.5 and forget about 10.5.2. I doubt that I'm the only person in the world with Charter and the upgrade that had this problem. Maybe some day in the future it will be resolved. Apple tech support sent me a copy of what the upgrade should do, and it seems worthwhile if it didn't shut off sending email.

Unable to send out emails via outlook express since 06/29/2010

Our household has been unable to "send" outgoing emails since 06/29/2010. This includes a wireless laptop and a PC. We both lost the ability to send emails same day. We changed NOTHING and did not share emails with each other that would have corrupted our system. During this time I have had 2 Verizon techs dance around in the PC doing all the same things I did as well as what the automated assistant did. The last tech said the Outlook Express 6.0 was corrupted, and to unistall it and then reinstall; this time 2 hours later, I think he just gave up). That did not work either. I tried using the Outlook Office and still got an error message for outging. Everything is set up as it was when it was working until 06/29/2010. I was told that there was a new server being installed and that things wold be working by 07/02/2010... I have tried taking down the firewall, turning off virus protection (McAfee), changing from outgoing.yahoo.verizon.net to just outgoing.verizon.net, checking boxes, unchecked boxes. SMPT is set to 587. We get incoming fine. I hate using the "Verizon email site" as too much monkey motion to get to mail, but that's what we have been doing. I even tried setting up a GMail account, again got mail still could not send. Any ideas?

I even tried sending an email via dos prompt with Telnet, got past "HELO", but when trying to get a "RCPT TO" (using outgoing.yahoo.verizon.net) I got an "authorization required" response and then was dropped. I have been passed around without a solution. I am about ready to change ISP, but really hate to as most of the time (years now) this has been a decent ISP. If Verizon is having a problem just say so, I can handle it, honesty would be nice, refreshing and not wasting so much of my time as well as the techs!

E7 outgoing email will not work

I have been using my company email on my E7 quite happily until Vodafone (who my account is with) switched off their mail server. Since then I can receive emails but just can't send any.
I was told to use the smtp settings for hotmail for my out going emails which didn't work. Since then I have tried using windows live, blueyonder, virgin, orange, yahoo, ovi and none of them will work. My email's just sit in the out box until I delete them.
Does anyone know of any outgoing email settings I can use to get my email working again?

You'll need to use whatever SMTP server the email provider specifies. Some of the companies you list have special "rules". I believe Hotmail uses a proprietary, web-based interface for sending and retrieving mail, and Yahoo provides POP3 and SMTP access only to paying customers. So you might save these providers for last. A few suggestions:
1) Don't trust the Nokia Email wizard. Outgoing email for my provider (Earthlink) doesn't work by default because the wizard supplies the wrong SMTP server. Visit the provider's web site and verify the server name yourself.
2) Also verify that authentication (username and password) is enabled for SMTP. Check the details with the provider.
3) If all else fails, discuss the problem with the provider's tech support team. If you still can't make it work, go back to Vodaphone. There's a slight chance they could be blocking SMTP access from your phone.
4) If you're using Nokia Messaging, their real-time email "push" service, that could complicate things...but I doubt it. My T-Mobile E73 has never supported Messaging, so it's an unknown.

Outgoing email problem with Gmail via ATT

I'm posting this on behalf of my mom, who's at her wit's end with her Mail program.
She has AT&T DSL service, and uses Gmail for her mail. Also, she's running 10.5 on a Macbook. We've tried fiddling with things every since she got the system in the spring, but she's consistently had trouble connecting to the Gmail server, especially regarding outgoing email. Most of the time it takes forever for a message to send, if it ever sends at all.
I use Comcast and Gmail and have never had any problems, which leads me to believe that this may have something to do with ATT(/Bellsouth). Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!

I have same problem with Apple Mail at ATT as ISP. I used the program ATTYahoo!EmailSetup from their website. Now I can rarely send any email, from my work email or from my MobileMe email. I seems like that program messed up the entire Apple Mail client so it can no longer send mail. Emails I try to send just sit the in Outbox. Does anyone have a solution?

3rd party email addresses have to be deleted on every synmced mac product, although I have 1and1.co.uk and my imac updatetes the mails in that account from mac mail.
Yahoo etc is a 2 step deleting process but good to get your emails pushed when on the go.

How do I change the photo of myself that is being placed on my outgoing emails?

I just realized that Safari is attaching a test photo of me to each of my outgoing email, mostly job applications. I'm sitting there with morning hair, a t-shirt and 5 oclock shadow. I searched everywhere looking for a way to either change or remove the image but to no avail. Can someone help me with this problem... Budman65

dominic is correct in saying, "The photo image in the mail composing window will not be sent along with the message." The only way anyone recieving your mail would have that picture is if they had that picture of you in their Contacts, which is highly unlikely.
But if you send a test to yourself, you will see it. The test must be sent to someone else.

How can I NOT have my outgoing emails accumulate on gmail?

I'm using Thunderbird with gmail via POP3, not IMAP. I want to just grab the emails, download them to my PC, and delete them from gmail. That part works great. But with both TB and my previous Outlook 2000, my outgoing emails end up staying on the gmail server. I see no control in TB nor on the gmail site to say "delete outgoing emails after sending" like is done when receiving.
Is this just the nature of email systems?
So every couple months I log onto gmail manually, and delete all of them. I just don't like my emails being available to a hacker.
Are there any settings to accomplish this?

You're right, for a POP account, the option "Place a Copy in:" in TB, under Account Settings/Copies and Folders would only enable/disable local copies to the Sent folder. If you want local copies, leave it checked.
To control the setting for copies to the Sent folder on the server, login to your Gmail account via browser, and look for an option to disable it there.
The 'Other' option in TB can be used to chose another account's Sent folder, e.g. underneath 'Local Folders'.

Firefox is a web browser. It displays the content of existing sites. Things like email or page contents come from the content provider. Who is your email provider? You'll probably have better luck consulting their help documentation.
That being said, most email providers do have this option available. Here are some links that might help:
