Outlook sync is driving me crazy

I've been trying to get Outlook and iPhone to sync reliably since I got it. Initially it synced correctly. Then it stopped syncing calendar and contacts (it has never synced email).
I have been through the technical note on how to fix sync problems. I uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled it. That fixed the problem -- for one day. The problem returned. I went through the uninstall and reinstall again. Again, fixed for one day (approximately). I tried doing a repair install. Fixed again, for one day.
I'm now stumped. Maybe Apple will update the tech note on what to do if the tech note's steps don't fix the problem permanently. But I'm not holding my breath.

That is the article that I used. Resetting sync history did not help.
Removing and reinstalling iTunes fixes it briefly. It works for a few syncs, then stops working again. Removing and reinstalling again fixes it for a few cycles, but the problem still comes back. This is not a practical workaround.

    In the past I have been criticized for going back to tape too often just to consolidate a bunch of short clips. So this time I kept my new project to the absolute minimum until it was all done.
    #1 - import 16 bit tape for new project (Option move from Pane to Viewer)
    #2 - Edit 3 or 4 clips into about 50 clips
    #3 - Share 100 clips to tape (resultant 16 bit tape out of sync)
    #4 - Import tape to get 2.4 clips totaling 22 min (out of sync)
    This is the absolute minimum of back and forth, yet (again) my audio on tape is lagging at 3 sec out of sync. No titles, effects, or transitions were used. I have not changed a thing since the import. How can I fix it?
    What can Extract Audio, Scroll to Playhead, Paste Over at Playhead, Restore Clip, and Lock Audio at Playhead do for me? I have never tried using any of them. Can audio be separated from picture and shifted in time? If so is it done by the clip or all clips at one time?

  • IDisk syncing error driving me crazy!

    Every time my iDisk syncs, it fails and I get an error message saying that a file can't be found. I know I deleted that file a few days ago. I looked on all my other computers and searched spotlight and can't find anything. I deleted some of the preferences related to syncing, and now because of this I can't sync my iDisk at all! I signed out and back into my mobile me account. I reset iSync and reset sync data in preferences.
    Can anyone PLEASE HELP? Thanks.

    You can try this simple fix -
    Quit DW.
    Find this folder -
    C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application
    Data\Macromedia\Dreamweaver
    8\Configuration\WinFileCache-*.dat
    (these folders are normally hidden - you may have to use
    Explorer > Tools >
    Folder Options to unhide them)
    or on Mac -
    Library/Application Support/Macromedia/Dreamweaver
    8/Configuration/MacFileCache-*.dat
    and delete it.
    Restart DW. Works better?

    From what I can figure out if the back gournd rules are not set the system will sync everything in the user folder.
    This was all working correctly, but now I have some users that I am moving form local users to portable users.
    On the login and logout the sync is scanning the ~/Documents/Microsoft User Data folder and finding Entourage databases that are still in use but being moved away from. It sits there going through a copy type process where it will take 10min or so to copy up an entourage database, but in the end does not actually copy it and carries on syncing the rest of the data it needs to.
    So it is working correctly, although my login logout process is being extended by about 10 15 minutes because it is having to look at this entourage database file.
    Does any one know why it would be doing this and how to stop it.

    YOu could check the log file whether the ~/Documents/Microsoft Data folder is still excluded.
    If it is snot in the log (as excluded) you need to reset the sync list on the local computer.
    I find it the easiest way to just delete the ~/.FileSync folder from both client and server. (be sure to do this when the user is 'not' logged on)
    If it is excluded, well, then I have similar problems. I recently made a change to the exclusion list and now it seems that almost everything is synced even though files are excluded..

  • Apple TV Syncing Issues Driving Me Crazy!

    Hi All :o)
    I've had my ATV from launch and it has hardly had any problems at all but since the latest software update and the latest Time Capsule update i have had nothing but trouble at least two to three times a week my ATV forgets all and has to re-sync everything its now to the stage where i cant be bothered to use it?
    My question is has anyone with this set up found this issue? and does anyone know if apple is AWARE of this issue?
    Any one with any ideas would be a great help cheers all :o)

    Hello, I have had both the ATV and Time Capsule running and done all the updates whenever they came out and have never had that happen, except when I accidentally unchecked 'all' in iTunes and it had to re-synch, but that was me clicking things I wasn't aware of. So sorry, can't help, it works for me.

    It seems you are unable to activate iMessage on a device with no carrier service. The following article provides information regarding activation issues:
    If you get an error when trying to activate iMessage or FaceTime - Apple Support
    Check your device settings
    Make sure that you’re connected to a cellular data or Wi-Fi network. If you're using an iPhone, you'll need SMS messaging to activate your phone number with iMessage and FaceTime. Depending on your carrier, you might be charged for this SMS.
    Go to Settings > General > Date & Time and make sure that your time zone is set up correctly.

  • Auto Sync driving me crazy!

    Hi can anyone help me.
    Im using LR CC and when i select 2 or more images in develop module and make changes (when auto sync is selected) only my visible image changes (not all selected images).
    what am I doing wrong? its driving me crazy!!

    Never heard of such a thing - are you sure auto-sync is enabled in develop module?
    Note: Develop module and Library module both have a separate auto-sync control (i.e. one can be enabled and the other disabled).
    Are you saying that the other images are not appearing changed (previews in filmstrip not being updated), or their settings are not being changed (develop settings unaltered).

    After having experienced similar problems and having it back to work, I have a few suggestions:
    - Try to find out if the syncing stops at a particular track or song. That might - out of the blue - have gotten corrupted in one way or another. Since that song will not be on the iPod, iTunes will try over and over to put it on and crash in one way or another;
    - reformat the iPod as described in the iTunes 9 crash-thread. It takes time (at first it seems to do nothing, but that is because the green bar is moving with very small steps);

  • Mail 2.1.3 on Tiger: mutiples of everything is driving me crazy!

    Hi, I recently had to reformat my hard drive and thus have been trying to reinstall all my email accounts (which I had backed up). I am using MAIL 2.1.3.
    I have several questions (this is driving me crazy!!):
    When I imported the archived files, it created new mailboxes but DID NOT reinstall my mail in it's corresponding email account file (i.e: i have an email account for incoming mail with "username", and then far below I have a mailbox (for EACH account, and I have about 7) which contains all my old mail. I can't seem to merge the two.
    When I recreated my useraccounts (most of which are gmail), I followed online instructions and created all my accounts using IMAP, since my first attempt using the POP version of these same accounts would NOT SEND OUT any of my Gmail mail. Now, for EACH ACCOUNT, not only do I have a "regular mailbox", I have the same "imported" from my old version, AND a third folder under "IMAP".... All this is REALLY driving me crazy!!
    All I want to achieve is what i had before : one version of each of my email accounts, including Gmail, that both recieve AND send mail. Nothing more.
    On the my other computer (leopard) Mail configures itself and everything works: it's bliss!!!
    Can anyone help me clear up this mess (also because as a result everything is SLOW!!)

    Thanks BDAqua, Unfortunately I did not do a very good job explaining myself.
    I am not trying to sync two computers (Tiger/Leopard). The Leopard comment was just me venting that it was so much a better program than Tiger....
    No, what I want is simply to recreate my Mail Client the way it looked before: with one inbox per username, a single Sent/Draft/Outgoing mailbox and that's all!!
    Instead for each username I have "normal" Inboxes, PLUS imported folders (each with their own Inbox/Sent/Draft mailboxes) PLUS IMAP folders again with their own individual Inbox/Sent/Draft mailboxes). My homepage when I open Mail contains something like 21 folders, whereas I only want the 7 (one per username).
    This whole thing came about because when I tried to import my old mailboxes (pre-formatting my mac) they imported as separate folders whereas I wanted them to merge into their respective accounts.
    The other issue I had (originally) which led to this mess is that none of my Gmail accounts would SEND mail (receiving is Ok) so I followed the online IMAP instructions and this is where I got triplets....
    Gosh, I don't know how else to explain it... If it's still not clear perhaps I should just erase everything and start from scratch??

    Can some one tell me how to stop the following time zone craziness. Can some one tell me how to stop the times of meetings from being changed automatically when you move from one time zone to another. Eg I live in Adelaide and I am travelling to Melbourne. I book a meeting for 2pm in Melbourne. When i arrive in Melbourne the time of the meeting is changed to the meeting time less the time zone change. Its madness and it is driving me crazy. Also the program also duplicates meetings when you move from time zone to time zone. There must be a way to stop this

    i too am now having this problem, strange thing is, is that i WAS able to sync from my touch calender to my macbook for the last few months... i just noticed this problem today, and as far as i can tell, the problem is only a few weeks old (some of the events that i had created only a few weeks ago on my touch are showing up in my ical)... have you found any solutions yet? i dont really want to reset all my settings, i got it just the way i want it, and it sounds like that didnt help anyways... i thinking that this issue maybe came up with the recent leopard update??!?! i dunno, im just trying to link it to something, since it used to work and now isnt

  • Outlook Sync - Multiple Calendar Problem

    (I am not sure whether this belongs in this Forum or would be more appropriately directed to my Device (Curve 8900) forum or Desktop Software.  Please advise or re-direct if that is the case.)
    I am having a sync issue with Outlook, and it revolves around the issue of having multiple calendars on the Device, each of which is associated with an e-mail address.  I understand this has been a relatively common question; however, although I admittedly may be looking in the wrong place, I have yet to come across a comprehensive solution.
    I understand how to switch the "default" e-mail associated with scheduling items on the calendar, and I believe I'm correct in thinking that this is what syncs with Outlook.  I've noticed that when I try switching the default, Outlook wants to delete all other appointments which are NOT associated with that device calendar.
    So I guess my specific questions are:
    1) Is there a way to have Outlook sync with ALL calendars on the device, i.e. not just the default?  It's easy enough to make all appointments from here on out with a single account & have that be the one that syncs; however, it doesn't seem possible to do that without having Outlook want to delete all other appointments.
    2) Is there a way to change the associated email/calendar for events on the Device?  When I open an event, I can see which email/calendar it is but I don't know how to *change* it -- I only seem to have a choice when scheduling new events.
    If either of these was an option, I think that would solve my problem -- I could either go through the device & convert everything to the default email/calendar & everything would be there upon sync, OR Outlook would just pick up everything from all calendars when I sync.
    I don't understand why it's so complicated to have everything in one place!

    If it's a Windows error, it's typically going to be a Microsoft problem. Uninstall any security software you have and if you have a restore point for your PC, you may want to restore your PC back to when iTunes was working normally. If none of those work you would need to contact Microsoft and demand help.

    All of my music was very deliberatley titled by composers "Last Name, First Name" as the artist.
    iTunes is changing it to the Album Artist.  I have to go in and delete that information - AND THEN IT LATER REVERTS IT BACK!!!
    Hours have been wasted and I am feeling so ticked.

    Purchased or ripped media?
    If these are ripped mp3s then another possibility is multiple embedded tags. iTunes works best with a single ID3v2.3 tag. Some software creates both an ID3v1.0 and IDv2.x tag. With multiple tags it is not certain which iTunes reads or which it updates, and any device may choose differently. Once songs have the correct info. in iTunes you can use Convert ID3 Tags... None several times, then Convert ID3 Tags... v2.3. The process removes any embedded art but otherwise preserves the data that iTunes knows. You could use my script CreateFolderArt before and after to save and then restore the artwork.
    In the long run you may be better off populating Album Artist properly with a copy of whatever is currently in Artist. My script CopyArtistToAlbumArtist can do this effectively.

  • E-mail (Outlook) syncs to iMac and iPad, but not to iPhone. How can I get it to sync to all three devices?

    My e-mail (Outlook) syncs to my iMac and my iPad.  However, I can read e-mails on my new iPhone, respond to them, and even erase them, but when I go to my computer or iPad afterwards, they still appear unopened and I have to open each one and close it again so it doesn't show up as an unread e-mail.  This does not happen with the iMac and iPad; deleting it on one of those deletes it on the other as well.  What am I doing wrong?

  • Outlook Sync Error SOLVED - Multi-day repeating appointment cannot be converted for use on the Handheld...

    *UPDATE 1/23/2009 07:08 AM* This is a partial fix. I no longer think the Recurrence Range is the culprit. It seems the Time Zones features between Outlook & Palm are not cooperating. This explains why my 12 am events are syncing as 6 pm the day before; I live in GMT-6:00 so it's moving my events ahead by 6 hours. Another event I set for 1 pm in Outlook was changed to 7 am on my Treo. I am going to start over and recreate each event, this time setting the Time Zones, which I hadn't done before. I tested it out and it worked with a single event... let's see how long it lasts. I've also found that using 'No Time' on my Treo is not compatible with Outlook. It's better to set a time with 0 minutes duration.
    *UPDATE 1/23/2009 04:11 AM* This is a partial fix. My monthly and yearly problematic recurring events are now showing up at 6 pm the day before on my Treo, though my Outlook calendar is fine. I think this has to do with the Recurrence Range Start/End in Outlook, which is set automatically. If only there were a way to change this... 
    After a WHOLE LOTTA trial-and-error (like 3 days worth), I think I finally solved my OLERR:14-001 issue!
    Problem: Syncing Palm Treo 755p calendar with Outlook 2007
    Error Message (simplified):
    HotSync session completed with messages on [date] [time]
    HotSync session started on [date] [time], and completed in [0] seconds
    Outlook Calendar synchronization completed with messages
    Duration: [0] seconds
    Outlook Calendar
    The multi-day repeating appointment titled [event] beginning [date] [time] cannot be converted for use on the Handheld. Please divide the appointment up into single-days and re-synchronize.
     OLERR:14-0001
    - Desktop overwrite HH Sync
    Note: You will likely have several of these ‘Multi-day’ instances in your hotsync log (I had 58). You may want to change Calendar in hotsync to "Desktop overwrites Handheld" after you get this error, to avoid erasing events while you are fixing this issue. Otherwise, you may have to restore them from a backup copy (if you have one) and start over. You can switch back once you’re through.
    Solution: First, I tried this Palm KB Article: http://kb.palm.com/SRVS/NUA/launchKB.asp?c=31167. After this didn’t work for me… I did trial-and-error. I believe the problem is that each recurring event, which you set up as ‘All-day’, must be changed to have a duration of 0 minutes from within Outlook. I was able to change some events directly, but I found that some of the records had corrupted, and would just revert. My fool-proof solution was to recreate EVERY problematic event (yes, one-by-one) using the following steps:
    Open Outlook
    Go to your default calendar, where your events are synced
    In the top menu choose ‘View’ > ‘Current View’ > ‘Recurring Appointments’
    Open a ‘New Appointment’
    Enter subject and other options, such as Categorize, Importance, Time Zones, or Reminder
    Make sure starting and ending date & time are the EXACT same
    Select ‘Recurrence’ & choose your pattern
    I did not choose ‘No end date’ (hence the Palm article), but rather ‘End by:’ and typed in 2031, then pressed tab to auto-generate a suitable end date. I chose 2031 because that is last year my Treo’s calendar goes to. Click OK
    Repeat for every event in your error log, until you get a clean "Desktop overwrites Handheld" hotsync (Outlook should be closed when you sync)
    Switch Calendar in hotsync back to "Synchronize"
    Even though I still get the message OLERR14:001, my syncs are successful. Now I will give my Treo time to see if the issue returns later. Until then, happy Outlook syncing and good luck!

    if all of your data is on the phone you can change the sync action to handhled overwrites desktop
    how to:
    open palm desktop software
    on the top left click on 'hotsync' and then 'custom'
    on the calendar conduit
    highlight it and click on 'change'
    then choose 'handhled overwrites desktop'
