OutOfMemoryError in Java ME SDK 3.0 and 3.2 emulator

Hello together,
in a little card game I currently develop for the Java ME platform I use SVGImages created at runtime (that is, not loaded from resources as .svg or .xml files) to render the respective cards on ScalableGraphics. One can use the arrow keys or the touch screen to move the focus around the cards on the board, but if this is done an indefinite number of times (usually around five) immediately after starting, the emulator runs into the following problem (making the cards disappear from screen and any further drawing impossible):
TRACE: <at java.lang.OutOfMemoryError>, Exception caught in Display class
java.lang.OutOfMemoryError
(stack trace incomplete)
TRACE: <at java.lang.IllegalStateException: bindTarget(javax.microedition.lcdui.Graphics@e5125d64) with g : javax.microedition.lcdui.Graphics@e5125d64>, Exception caught in Display class
java.lang.IllegalStateException: bindTarget(javax.microedition.lcdui.Graphics@e5125d64) with g : javax.microedition.lcdui.Graphics@e5125d64

- com.sun.midp.lcdui.RepaintEventProducer.process(), bci=55
- com.sun.midp.events.EventQueue.run(), bci=179
- java.lang.Thread.run(), bci=11
I am quite helpless with both diagnosing and resolving this issue because I cannot judge if I am doing something completely insane in my source or I have really found some quirks in the emulator. I correctly bindTarget() / releaseTarget() the Graphics object to ScalableGraphics, however, I do this every time a card has to be repainted, perhaps this is too much? I want to stress that this does only occur in the emulator shipped with the Java ME Platform SDK 3.0 and 3.2, but it does not in 3.0.5 or any other emulator I could get hold of.
I have stripped down my more complex source to the following sample application "SVGMidlet", which exactly reproduces the error and can be obtained via
https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B1kQpH4ZHhj1ZUs0ekZiMGlURlE/edit?usp=sharing
Best regards, Oliver Pfeiffer

Try to adjust the heap size by starting the emulator from the command line
and add the parameter "-Xheapsize=10M"  this will give you a heap size of 10 Meg.

    Hello together,
sorry for restarting this topic again, but the original discussion
OutOfMemoryError in Java ME SDK 3.0 and 3.2 emulator
has been archived while I was concerned with different things in the meantime. Now returning to Java ME programming again, I find that the problem still persists, at least for the most recently released emulator 3.4. Also the suggestion to increase the heap size via command line parameter is not working. Any further ideas are still appreciated!

  • [QUESTION] First Steps: Java ME SDK 3.0 AND NOKIA N95

Hi! this is my first post in the forums. I am a c# .net programmer and this is my first step to start programing mobile phones with Java ME.
I already downloaded and installed de Java ME SDK 3.0 and try the examples, then i build a sample and generate the jad.
After upload to my N95 it says that cant install the app because is for the N95 or is not supported....(I was thinking like winforms in .net... build install and run ....hahaha!)
but i found that every phone has its SDK that i must install to develop app.
    So my question is
If i have the JME SDK 3.0 installed what i need to build any Nokia or Nokia N95 app. If is possible can you tell me the configuration that i need or maybe the steps to install the SDK from nokia to use in JME., apps, emulators, docs, etc.
PD: I want to start an app that tells me the location using the internal gps of the N95.
And sorry for my bad english.
    Thanks!

check if ME SDK is configured to MIDP 2.1. Also check whether N95 supports MIDP 2.1 or 2.0; if needed, change SDK build settings to MIDP 2.0. // this seem to be rather popular problem
...I want to start an app that tells me the location using the internal gps of the N95...Google for +"nokia n95 jsr 179"+ (jsr 179 is location API in Java ME).
If you plan to target only Nokia device(s), consider getting help at Nokia Java ME forums.

  • Filepath probs running Java w/ DOS and Java 2 SDK

Please help! I have been trying to get a .class file to run for the past four days, using DOS to run the file. I have tried to enter every filepath I can -think- of, and the program still will not run. I have even tried running the file on others' computers that also have a Java 2 SDK...and still cannot get the file to run. However, I know for certain that the file is correct and is able to be run....so that means that somehow I am not putting in the right filepath. I guess my question is....what's the file path?
Here's what I was told to do...which has not worked thus far...
My Java SDK filepath is: C:/Java2SDK1.4.0
I was instructed to open DOS, then, to get to here:
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Desktop>I did so, and as instructed entered the filepath to the javac file inside the java sdk and after it, to put the filename with a .java extension. However, I ONLY have a class file. I don't have the .java file, nor was it ever handed to me.That filepath requested is: C:/Java2SDK1.4.0/bin/javac MathPrac.java
I entered the filepath, so my DOS prompt looked like this before I hit the enter key:
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Desktop>C:/Java2SDK1.4.0/bin/javac MathPrac.javaI hit enter, and it gives me a LONG list of garbage. I even tried reversing the slash marks. Please help? This thing is due Monday and my instructor is refusing to return my emails. I don't want to fail this course due to an instructor being unwilling to assist a student, and a student having tried just about everything she could think of before finally coming here and asking for help.
Would it matter if the SDK for some reason won't recognize my .java files either? I even tried doing the filepath with a file I KNOW should work...and on computers it should have worked on...and could not get it to accept my filepath.
Any help would be very very very highly appreciated. Thanks!

To run a .class file you have to use the java command (javac is the compiler which creates .class files from .java files). Try running
    C:\Java2SDK1.4.0\bin\java MathPrac
Thank you for the suggestion, however when I attempted to run it, I got an error that said: Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: MathPrac
Isn't this an error that states that the name of the file and the class name inside the file are not the same? And if so, how can I check to see if they are the same if I don't have the .java file? I did double-check my spelling, tried it four times just to be sure.
    To ChuckBing:
Hey, thanks for the tutorial! I'll take a look at that, too. It always helps to have other resources.
    To jwenting:
<Grin>. Duly noted, and thanks. I was trying to keep from being -too- technical in my explanation of what was going on.

  • Java ME SDK 3.0 on Vista 64bit (JDK/JRE1.6U13 32-bit installed right before

I really would like to test the recently promoted release of Java ME SDK 3.0 on my Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit.
First I tried to install it using my previously installed JDK 1.6 64-bit. Installer failed to properly integrate with Vista's UAC. Then equipped with proper permissions installation succeeded. So I tried to start the app. Got a splash screen telling me to start modules. Next I saw a apparently neverending list of exceptions appearing once every 10 seconds. So I told my task manager to drop that process.
I tried to uninstall the application and had to see uninstaller failing due to not support 64-bit Windows. Great. Java=Portability???? And why didn't installer tell me about it?
Lacking opportunity to uninstall the ME SDK I decided to drop every update of JRE and my existing JDK, then ask regedit to drop any registry information on any sort of Java-related stuff. Next I dropped all left-over folders related to installations of Java or Java-bundled software. Completing this I got a fresh JDK/JRE 1.6 Update 13 32-bit and installed it to my computer without any trouble.
Next I decided to have another test of installing and running Java ME SDK 3.0 ... interesting: installer detected an existing installation (where from? all folders as well as lots of registry keys had been dropped before, even Windows' application manager didn't consider to have an existing installation anymore). The installer found new JDK installed before and finally succeeded to reinstall the app.
Well, I tried to start it after that expecting something tested and thus working now. Instead of that I got the same sequence of exceptions requiring me to ask Task Manager for help after two bothering minutes of cancelling exceptions on splash screen not showing any kind of progression anymore.
Here's my question (aside from: Who on earth started to falsely proclaim Java being platform-independent?):
How can I get rid of these problems and have that super-app running on my two and a half years old operating system?
    Any support is welcome!
    Thomas
(PS: I admit to have very bad view on Java as a technology due to stepping from trouble to trouble for years now and so I guess no one's ever able to convince me of the contrary, so please ignore any dismissive statement on it above. And yes I'd like to see this app running so I can start developing apps for mobile phones or at least test its capabilities in comparison to the competition.)
EDIT: A few months ago I was testing some ME SDK with success. I can't remember version or included IDE. Is there any (basic) difference in using "Java ME SDK 3.0" as currently promoted on SDN from using Netbeans 6.5 supporting Java ME as well?
Edited by: soletan on May 26, 2009 9:55 AM

Hi, I also used the 64 bit sdk with Java ME SDK 3.0 and I am now unable to unistall it. I tried the suggestion of editing the 2 Java files which as suggested allowed the program to work correctly however I was unable to uninstall the program. So I tried the other suggestion of removing the files and then reinstalling linking to the 32 bit SDK which again it works OK but I am unable to uninstall.
On trying to uninstall I get the error:

  • Java ME SDK 3.0 does not run sample files, but WTK 2.5.2 does

    Hi guys,
I have following problem: I am using the Java ME SDK 3.0 and I am trying to run some sample MIDlets. For example this very basic HelloMIDlet which can be found here http://developers.sun.com/mobility/midp/articles/wtoolkit/src/HelloMIDlet.java
Build runs successfully, but if I try to run it, the emulator appears, but nothing happens. Here is a warning from the logfile:

    Thanks a lot,

    1. Start ME SDK
    2. File -> New Project -> MIDP Application
    3. Select Project Name AND(!) check "Create Hello Midlet". Click "Next"
    4. Select Device "DefaultCldcPhone1"; other as Default; Click Finish
    5. Change body of the HelloMidlet.java according to http://developers.sun.com/mobility/midp/articles/wtoolkit/src/HelloMIDlet.java
    //As you described
    6. Click F6 (Run Main Project)
As a result: "BUILD SUCCESSFUL"; ME SDK open with "Hello,World".
So, all works. Please provide step by step scenario if you see problem yet. Also tell me please version of java.

  • Import J2ME source into Java ME SDK 3.0

    Hi,
    Im new to Java ME.
The internet has lots of J2ME examples for games(but none for Java ME SDK 3.0), and im trying to import these into Java ME SDK 3.0 . I click on new project and select 'Import Wireless Toolkit Project', but it doesn't detect a project. Ive tried this with several popular J2ME samples.
Anyone know how to do this right, so I can import J2ME projects into Java ME SDK 3.0 completely, with classes, packages and resources intact?
I tried making a new project, and then copying the files into the relevant directories too. All the classes show up in the SDK, but on running the program no app is displayed in the emulator.

  • Java ME SDK 3.4 problem running IMP-NG Midlets

    Hello!
I downloaded and installed the Java ME SDK 3.4 and I'm having trouble running a IMP-NG JAD. I don't know if it's a environment problem or a SDK bug...
If I make a JAD IMP-NG, I get a IllegalArgumentException when launching, even if we run using the Device Selector window, right-click on IMPNGDevice1. If I make it a IMP-1.0, it runs on simulator, but doesn't show in right-click on IMPNGDevice1... It seems to be checking the version (IMP-NG is 2.0, and simulator is 1.0?) but I don't see what's wrong.
    Thanks for any help!

  • JAva ME SDK 3.0 Fatal Error : 123

    Hi,
i have a very strange error when running my midlet inside the emulator of SDK 3.0
This midlet runs fine under SDK 2.5, and under Nokia emulator but in SDK 3.0 I have an almost silent crash of the emulator. The only message the console is giving me is
    Fatal Error : 123
I have no idea what this is supposed to mean.
Can anybody point me to how I could debug this and to what might be the cause of this error ?
    Many thanks in advance

Please check device.properties file in c:\Documents and settings\<user>\javame-sdk\3.0\work\<device_id>\device.properties.
Check whether "profiler.enabled" is true / false.
I faced same if profiler is enabled.
Works for me if "profiler.enabled" is set to false.

Thanks for the link. I copied the CrystalReportsSDK.jar and logging.jar from the Crystal Server java\lib directory into my project and revised the code accordingly. Now, a slightly different error occurs at the same place:

  • Problems Installing JAVA 2 SDK and Forte4J CE 3.0 on Win98  - HELP !!!!

I have downloaded JAVA 2 SDK, SE v.1.4.0 and Forte for Java CE 3.0 without any trouble, but when I go to install it, I get stuck at the SDK installation screen, and nothing happens.
I did restart my computer after downoading the file, but that did not help. I have been looking at the installation screen now for about an hour. What do I do? Please, somebody help me.
    Thanks.

I had a similar problem with J2SDK 1.4.0 and Forte
    3.0 on a Win98 box. Realizing that J2SDK 1.4.0 is a
BETA release, I dropped back to J2SDK 1.3.0_02. It
    works fine!

  • Why we have separate azure java SDK for linux and windows

I saw different links for downloading azure java SDK for linux and windows.
What difference does it actually have when java is platform independent? Or both are same jars?

    Hi,
    Thank you for your post.
It contains the same jar files.

    Hi friends,
I am new to Java Card technologies, previously i worked in SCOSTA cards using java application. Now i want to develop java applet and mask into the javacard.
I tried Java_card_kit-2.2.1 package to build cap file using sample class files based on the specification.
In command prompt, i configured path and classpath perfectly....
But when i tried to make cap file by using the following command i am getting error.
    set JC_HOME=C:\java_card_kit-2_2_1
    set JAVA_HOME=C:\j2sdk1.4.2_09
    SET PATH=%JC_HOME%\bin;%PATH%

Usage:  converter  <options>  package_name  package_aid  major_version.minor_versionSo kindly help me the best way to make cap file.
    regards,
    dhaya.You could try the following:
converter.bat -classdir %JC_HOME%\samples\classes com.sun.javacard.samples 0xF2:0x34:0x12:0x34:0x56:0x10:0x10:0x00 1.0You only need to specify the base directory for the classes and you need to specify the package separately.
If you only want to convert to a JCA file you would use the following otherwise all 3 artifacts will be gernerated (CAP, JCA and EXP)
    converter.bat -out JCA -classdir %JC_HOME%\samples\classes com.sun.javacard.samples 0xF2:0x34:0x12:0x34:0x56:0x10:0x10:0x00 1.0I hope this helps.

  • What is different between JES and Java EE SDK ?

    Hi
Thank you for reading my post.
can some one tell me what is different between Java EE SDK and JES ?
    What i think is:
    - Both of them support Java EE 5.0
    - Both of them has access manager 7.1
Can we develop application on JES using netbeans IDE ?
What technicall benefits JES bring that Java EE SDK does not?
    Thanks

The Java EE SDK is a developer kit that includes Application Server 9 PE,
as well as early access to other technologies and tools related
to Java EE 5 development. It is primarily targeted at developers
for doing development and prototyping -- although you can also
    use it in production.
Java Enterprise System is a larger integrated stack of software and
services sold under a subscription model. The current release includes
Application Server 8.2 EE (and is therefore J2EE 1.4 based), but also
includes a large number of other products such as Web Server,
Directory Server, Portal Server, etc. For more details see:
    http://www.sun.com/software/javaenterprisesystem
Note that it is an unfortunate co-incidence that the current release
of Java Enterprise System is Java ES 5, which has nothing to do with
    Java EE 5!
Yes you can use Netbeans to develop applications for Java ES.
So comparing the two is really comparing apples to oranges. If you
are a developer and want to develop Java EE 5 applications than the
Java EE SDK is likely best for you.
If you are interested in a broader portfolio of software and servcies
including deploying J2SE 1.4 applications than Java ES may be a good
    match.
