Output collection value individually with JSP tags?
Hi all,
I am able to use struts to iterate through a collection (Map for example) and print the keys/values with tags as below:
<bean:define id="sampleMap" name="helper" property="values" type="java.util.Map"/>
<logic:iterate id="item" name="syllabusContent">
"<bean:write name="item" property="key"/>"="<bean:write name="item" property="value"/>"
</logic:iterate>
I am wondering if it is possible to print only one key within the map (say the key was "sampleKey"), would there be a way using struts/another tag library (not customized) to print out this value - something like:
<bean:write name="item" property="key" key="sampleKey">
I hope this makes sense (obviously i'm pretty new to this stuff) - any help is greatly appreciated.

In XML Output the values of Number column tags are not displayed properly
Hi,
Our Client have been using AR Invoice Print Program for a long time and it is heavily customized. Also they are using an old version of the RDF. So we have taken the latest version of the RDF (RAXINV.rdf) for Oracle Apps 11.5.10.2 by raising a SR and implement Client's old RAXINV.rdf into it.
All was ok, but when we are running the program, the XML Output did not generate properly. For the Q_INVOICE query (G_ORDER_BY, G_INVOICE and G_INV_TERM group), the value of some of the scaler number columns are not appeared properly. The tags are coming correctly, but the value is appearing as '*', instead of the correct value. We have checked in the RDF Level (By putting srw.message and check in the log file) that those columns are having proper value. So there is no issue with the RDF.
But because of the above mentioned problem, the some of the PDF output field values also is not generated correctly.
I think that because of the lexical parameters which was implementing the Q_INVOICE query (&COMMON_QUERY) this issue is coming. Because the issue is only in the Q_INVOICE query group (G_ORDER_BY, G_INVOICE and in G_INV_TERM group) not in any other query group.
There is no problem with the scaler character columns. The issue is only with the number columns.
Also we have checked that if we hardcode the value of the number columns in the above mentioned lexical parameter, this problem doesn't appear.
If we put TO_CHAR function to those number columns in the lexical parameter (COMMON_QUERY), then this issue get solved. But we can't do it because of performance issue and also Client won't approve it.
Please help.

Do your fields in the internal table reference dictionary objects or elementary types? If not using dictionary types, the column names will be blank by default. If you can't change your fields to be dictionary types, you can try this to change the column names:

Experiences developing iViews with JSP tags
Hi,
has anyone experiences in the development of iViews using JSPs and the JSP tags ? Especially the useBean tag... I think it should be no problem to store beans in the session. If I want to share the bean among iView is it enought to synchronized each method of the bean ?

please, before going on guessing around what synchronization means, read some tutorial, that's what the link was thaught for. It is no problem at all not to know this topic, it's definitely some more advanced topic within the language, but it doesn't help if you don't know it to guess how it <i>could</i> work/behave.

Once again: For pure getters and setters this sentence is definitely wrong. As long as complex class members are not manipulated / accessed concurrently, there is no need for synchronization (within the class).

Once again: You don't have it in your hands which thread comes first. And synchronizing a method only means that a thread calling this method will run through it as an atomic operation, no other thread will disturb. But getters and setters normally are atomic, you cannot reach more... If a thread calls two (synchronized) methods of the same object, between these two calls, "the race is open again...".
A good example is http://www-106.ibm.com/developerworks/java/library/j-threads1.html
See the example at the end of this link, that's somehow just what we are talking about. The solution would be to synchronize the <i>setFoo(getFoo() + 1)</i> itself (for example with the bean object as locker). Whereas the synchronization of the methods is superfluous (and time consuming).

Could someone please help me with the setup process of tag libraries? I've looked on the Internet and found some instructions, but they are all for Tomcat. I'm using Jserv, and I'm not sure how to setup my environment to work with custom/tag libraries. Could someone help me by giving me some instructions or sending me to an article that could help me?

The best source for getting to know how to set up tag libraries is the JSP specification. You can download this from :

See the chapter on Tag libraries. Any J2EE compliant server will conform to these rules.

The class does contain the setter, so we don't know why the message pops
up. After rebooting the server, the page works properly (!) Does anyone
know how to get rid of it ? We're running out of ideas, and rebooting
the server every 2-3 days is not acceptable.
The configuration consists of BEA WebLogic 5.1.0 SP8 + JDK 1.2.2_07 +
HPUX 11.0.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Programatic Value/MethodBindings with JSF tags

Is it possible to set up ValueBinding's and MethodBindings in a similar way or would it be better to dump the JSF tags and use JSF altogether programatically. Below is an example that seems like it should work but the result is the ValueBinding.toString() ends up being the value.

<h:inputText id="myid" value="#{vb}"/>--right ValueBinding.getValue() takes a FacesContext, which you definately would not want to pass as and arg in El, even if you could I would think.
To answer your question, we are generating several software layers based on an MDA approach. We reverse engineer the database schema into XML then use that "Platform Independent Model" to generate a JDO model and set of persistence-capable Java classes, and now a Faces Bean model and Bean classes. We also have a set of constants files which have all the entity and property names to be used in the web layer.
Since the database model is huge, and changes alot (government project), hard-coding EL expressions in a thousand places is a very bad idea given the code-generation/reverse-engineering approach.
We want 100% compile-time checking for all persistent-access properties and the Faces programatic approach to Value/Method bindings gets us there, if it will somehow work.

Capture output of Perl script with jsp:include
The company's main web site has a CGI script written in Perl that generates a header, and another one that generates a footer. I would like to deploy a JSP that incorporates the header and footer without having to re-implement the header/footer Perl code in Java.
Can the <jsp:include> tag include the output from these Perl scripts?Well, I tried it. The answer seems to be no.
I created a simple CGI hello-world thingie and tested it, works fine from a browser (I'm doing all this remotely on a friend's Gentoo box so I know it's not just cached in my browser or anything).
Then I created a simple JSP and used a fully-qualified URL pointing to the executable CGI script. While the JSP compiles and renders (I had some text in the JSP itself too), the part where it's supposed to include the content of the Perl script doesn't even appear.
I also tried putting the CGI script into my webapp directory and specifying a relative path to the script, and it doesn't seem to get executed either. To confirm that I'm doing everything right, I put together a simple HTML file that has the same output and changed the "page" attribute to point to that file instead. Sure enough, the output appears.
So the answer to my question appears to be: no, the output of a Perl CGI cannot be included into a JSP with the <jsp:include> tag. But I'm going to double-check on the Tomcat-user mailing list. -

Depends on what "people tags" are.
If they are keywords, written to the correct fields of the IPTC metadata, then yes. If this is a Faces-like feature then no, there is no way to share such data in any system. -
ResultSet in combo with JSP tag

according to MVC, I use an EJB to get data from database and then I make it available to JSP page through a servlet.
In my JSP page I'd want to show my data using a code like this:

But I'm not able to make this code run: is it a correct way to achieve this result? Is it correct converting ResultSet in ArrayList or it's more convenient converting it in anything else? How can correct the code I have reported?

I am having problem creating dynamic html elements with jsp tags, i have tried to use EL and java scriplet, both of them don't work.
i am trying to create dynamic menu in my "rightMenu.jspf", based on, if user has logged in or not.
some like this!

but it is not working. it simply loading all and images with in statement, regardless of whether user has logged in or not. i think some how if statement is not working properly.
"validUser" is a session bean, which is not creating at this point, it will created when user will log in successfully. and also this session bean does not exist at the page, where i am trying to check that .
Is there any way to create dynamic values in jsp. It is really important, is there any body who help me in this matter. i would be really grateful.

all if statements works on files ending with extension ".jsp" but don't work only on with extension ".jspf". there must be to do with this.

What you have to do is this:
- Include the jar file in the WEB-INF/lib
- Include the tld file in a directory under WEB-INF, for example tlds
- Create a mapping in the deployment descriptor (web.xml), to make the taglib available, something like this:

<taglib-location>/WEB-INF/tlds/io.tld</taglib-location>
</taglib>
Then in the jsp, you have to invoke it like this:
