Output file in ANSI Encoding.

Hi,
I have created a serch and replace program which works fine with normal text files.
But it doesn't work with oracle database dump files because I think they are ANSI encoded.
Can someone body please point me in the right direction.
My program;
Gets source file
Gets find and replace strings.
Makes a copy of the source file saves all the replaced matched sequences in the new file.

Your problem is most likely an encoding problem.
Unfortunately there is usually no automated way to solve this unless you have a way to know the encoding of all your input files.
Read [this excellent introduction into Unicode|http://www.joelonsoftware.com/articles/Unicode.html] for an explanation.

  • Outbound interface - Generating files with ANSI encoding.

    Hi All,
    I am able to generate output files with txt extension. But it is generating in UTF-8 encoding files, myself when i open the files in notepad, i find UTF-8 and when opened in wordpad i find ANSI. My user wants it in ANSI in any case.
    One more thing my client's language is Spanish, where there will be special characters like Ñ, so if the file is in ANSI, will there be a problem for this characters.
    Please help.

    So which OS is to blame? The Mac seems to be inserting weird paragraph returns that Windows doesn't understand, no matter what type of file encoding you use (UTF-8, Western Windows Latin 1, Western DOS Latin 1).
    My understanding is that TextEdit uses standard Unix type line endings, called LF (line feed, hex 0A). Windows stuff uses a different convention, CR + LF (0D 0A). If a Windows app will not display text just because it encounters something other than CR + LF, I'd say it probably has a bug of some sort.
    Is there a solution to this probem?
    I don't think the line endings of TextEdit can be changed. Some other apps like Text Wrangler offer you a choice in their preferences.

  • Is ANSI ENCODING possible using file/j2see adapter

    Hi all,
                I am doing a file to file bypass scenario .My client has demanded that the output file should be in ANSI format.I checked the <b>file.encoding</b> option in sap-help but ANSI is not available can u suggest that what encoding type i must use.
    I am thinking of using ISO-8859-1.

  • CONVERSION FROM ANSI ENCODED FILE TO UTF-8 ENCODED FILE

    Hi All,
    I have some issues in conversion of ANSI encoded file to utf encoded file. let me tell you in detail
    I have installed the Language Support for Thai Language on My Operating System.
    now, when I open my notepad and add thai character on the file and save it as ansi encoding. it saves it perfectly and also I able to see it on opening the file again.
    This file need to be read by my application , store in database and should display thai character on jsp after fetching the data from database. Currently it is showing junk character on jsp reason being that my database (UTF8 compliant database) has junk data . it has junk data because my application is not able to read it correctly from the file.
    If I save the file with encoding as UTF 8 it works fine. but my business requirement is such that the file is system generated and by default it is encoded in ANSI format. so I need to do the conversion of encoding from ANSI to UTF8 . so Any of you can guide me on the same how to do this conversion ?
    Regards
    Gaurav Nigam

    Guessing the encoding of a text file by examining its contents is tricky at best, and should only be done as a last resort. If the file is auto-generated, I would first try reading it using the system default encoding. That's what you're doing whenever you read a file with a FileReader. If that doesn't work, try using an InputStreamReader and specifying a Thai encoding like TIS-620 or cp838 (I don't really know anything about Thai encodings; I just picked those out of a quick Google search). Once you've read the file correctly, you can write the text to a new file using an OutputStreamWriter and specifying UTF-8 as the encoding. It shouldn't really be necessary to transcode files like this, but without knowing a lot more about your situation, that's all I can suggest.
    As for native2ascii, it isn't for encoding conversions. All it does is replace each non-ASCII character with its six-character Unicode escape, so "voil&#xE1;" becomes "voil\u00e1". In other words, it avoids the problem of character encodings by converting the file's contents to a form that can be stored as ASCII. It's mainly used for converting property or resource files to a form that can be read by the Properties and ResourceBundle classes.

    We absolutely need to fix this issue ASAP, we are in a major bind until we can resolve this issue. Thanks a bunch.

    We are using Windows 7
    dual quadcore intel xeon processors 8gb ram
    10000rpm internal drives. quadroefx 1800 video card
    The drive is 4tb
    We have tried exporting to many different locations with no luck
    Its a very nice video editting system. We just need to figure out this exporter

  • Media Encoder CS4 output file size varies--why??

    I was batch encoding several files yesterday, and one of the files failed. Adobe Media Encoder provided no details, other than when I hover over the yellow exclamation point error icon, it says: "Error compiling movie. Unknown error." Very insightful.
    Today I reprocessed the file same file with the same preset [FLV - Same As Source (Flash 7 and Higher)] and it worked fine. To check for instability on my machine, I actually ran the same job 10 times, and each job succeeded. But the curious thing is, even though I was using the same input file and output preset, I see that the output files vary in size. The output sizes are:
    30,739,977 bytes
    30,750,834 bytes
    30,750,504bytes
    30,750,654bytes
    30,739,928bytes
    30,740,044bytes
    30,750,615bytes
    30,740,001bytes
    30,739,979bytes
    30,750,637bytes
    Now I understand that this variation is less than 10kB on a 30MB file, so it's prety small. But I am curious as to why the file size would vary in this way.
    Any ideas?

    I would guess that you are overclocking your cpu and the cooler is not able to make the cpu cool enough and some calculations can go wrong. There are programs that put the cpu in a high load and check if it's running properly as expected. Give them a try.

  • How to detect encoding file in ANSI, UTF8 and UTF8 without BOM

    Hi all,
    I am having a problem with detecting a .txt/.csv file encoding. I need to detect a file in ANSI, UTF8 and UTF8 without BOM but the problem is the encoding of ANSI and UTF8 without BOM are the same. I checked the function below and saw that ANSI and UTF8
    without BOM have the same encoding. so, How can I detect UTF8 without BOM encoding file? because I need to handle for this case in my code.
    Thanks.
    public Encoding GetFileEncoding(string srcFile)
                // *** Use Default of Encoding.Default (Ansi CodePage)
                Encoding enc = Encoding.Default;
                // *** Detect byte order mark if any - otherwise assume default
                byte[] buffer = new byte[10];
                FileStream file = new FileStream(srcFile, FileMode.Open);
                file.Read(buffer, 0, 10);
                file.Close();
                if (buffer[0] == 0xef && buffer[1] == 0xbb && buffer[2] == 0xbf)
                    enc = Encoding.UTF8;
                else if (buffer[0] == 0xfe && buffer[1] == 0xff)
                    enc = Encoding.Unicode;
                else if (buffer[0] == 0 && buffer[1] == 0 && buffer[2] == 0xfe && buffer[3] == 0xff)
                    enc = Encoding.UTF32;
                else if (buffer[0] == 0x2b && buffer[1] == 0x2f && buffer[2] == 0x76)
                    enc = Encoding.UTF7;
                else if (buffer[0] == 0xFE && buffer[1] == 0xFF)
                    // 1201 unicodeFFFE Unicode (Big-Endian)
                    enc = Encoding.GetEncoding(1201);
                else if (buffer[0] == 0xFF && buffer[1] == 0xFE)
                    // 1200 utf-16 Unicode
                    enc = Encoding.GetEncoding(1200);
                return enc;

    what you want is to get the encoding utf-8 without bom which can only be detected if the file has special characters, so do the following:
    public Encoding GetFileEncoding(string srcFile)
                // *** Use Default of Encoding.Default (Ansi CodePage)
                Encoding enc = Encoding.Default;
                // *** Detect byte order mark if any - otherwise assume default
                byte[] buffer = new byte[10];
                FileStream file = new FileStream(srcFile, FileMode.Open);
                file.Read(buffer, 0, 10);
                file.Close();
                if (buffer[0] == 0xef && buffer[1] == 0xbb && buffer[2]
    == 0xbf)
                    enc = Encoding.UTF8;
                else if (buffer[0] == 0xfe && buffer[1] == 0xff)
                    enc = Encoding.Unicode;
                else if (buffer[0] == 0 && buffer[1] == 0 && buffer[2]
    == 0xfe && buffer[3] == 0xff)
                    enc = Encoding.UTF32;
                else if (buffer[0] == 0x2b && buffer[1] == 0x2f &&
    buffer[2] == 0x76)
                    enc = Encoding.UTF7;
                else if (buffer[0] == 0xFE && buffer[1] == 0xFF)
                    // 1201 unicodeFFFE Unicode (Big-Endian)
                    enc = Encoding.GetEncoding(1201);
                else if (buffer[0] == 0xFF && buffer[1] == 0xFE)
                    // 1200 utf-16 Unicode
                    enc = Encoding.GetEncoding(1200);
               else if (validatUtf8whitBOM(srcFile))
                    enc = UTF8Encoding(false);
                return enc;
    private bool validateUtf8whitBOM(string FileSource)
                bool bReturn = false;
                string TextUTF8 = "", TextANSI = "";

    Bryan Thanks for your help. i am thinking to create an independent Java or C++ program to change the file from UTF-8 to ANSI char set
    and shchedule to run  to change csv file char set before mail it to client by BO
    In this design how we can get the event by BO that file has been created and yet to send by email or FTP
    I can see two type of event
    Event to Wait for
    Event to Trigger on complition
    if i create two event
    CSV_UTF8_CREATED - will be fire by BO once BO create file and yet to send email
    CSV_ANSI_CREATED - will be fire by program once it convert from UTF_8 to ANSI
    please guide if its possible to create such event and fire by BO on file creation and yet to send to destination

    Thanks

  • OPEN DATASET file FOR OUTPUT IN TEXT MODE ENCODING NON-UNICODE

    Hi There,
    I also have the similar issue. I am able to write the data into appliaction server in Chinese Characters using :OPEN DATASET datei FOR OUTPUT IN TEXT MODE ENCODING DEFAULT or OPEN DATASET datei FOR OUTPUT IN TEXT MODE ENCODING UTF-8. But when i save that file into my presentation server manually, all the chinese characters are showing as Junk.
    When i use OPEN DATASET datei FOR OUTPUT IN TEXT MODE ENCODING NON-UNICODE, giving runtime error and when i use OPEN DATASET datei FOR OUTPUT IN TEXT MODE ENCODING NON-UNICODE IGNORING CONVERSION ERRORS, No error but application server output itself showing as Junk characters.
    Could you please suggest me what you have done?
    Regards,
    Chaitanya A

    Hi,
       Use this
      OPEN DATASET File_path  FOR OUTPUT IN TEXT MODE ENCODING NON-UNICODE
      WITH SMART LINEFEED
    it will definitely work.

  • Download the korean text file using ANSI as encoding

    Hi Experts,
    i am using gui_download to create a txt file using ANSI as its encoding, the data that i need to download contains korean characters (double-byte characters), when the txt file is created, the korean characters were changed into ### symbols.
    Can someone help me on how to correctly download the data with korean characters without making the korean characters into sharp # symbol.
    Please note that the encoding should be in ANSI.

    I don't think if your are using ANSI , you will get korean characters correctly.
    otherwise
    first call fm SCP_CODEPAGE_FOR_LANGUAGE giving language as import parameter . then you will get the corresponding codepage from this fm.
    then
    use this codepage in the import parameter CODEPAGE of fm GUI_DOWNLOAD

  • Adobe media encoder cc will not save output file destination

    Hello all,
    Hopefully a simple issue here.  I'm running windows 7 and just downloaded AME CC.  I've tried over and over to save my output file destination in Preferences and have saved my media cache files to the same location and the saves will not take.  I was able to get it to go to the drive and folder I specified ONLY when I clicked the "Match Sequence Settings" tab in the AME pop up window.  My settings need to be different, so I leave the box unchecked.  Anyone else having this issue?  Can anyone help me out getting this simple function to work?  I saw a short thread on Creative Cow dated February 2013 with the same concern from a user and I did not see a resolution at the end.  I have not been able to find anything on this anywhere.  Sure, I can continue to manually save each file I render in AME, but it's a big PITA.  I finally was in between projects so I downloaded the CC upgrade and replaced my CS6 version and now I have this simple problem from an alleged upgrade?  Help please.
    Thank you.
    Todd

    Premiere sequences queued to AME from the Export Settings dialog won't honor AME's output path preference.  Instead, they default to the last path used from Exp. Settings via Premiere.  However, you should be able to get the result you want by queue-ing to AME's default path once from Premiere, which will make it Premiere's default as well.
    Or, you could drag and drop your sequence from the Project panel directly into AME's queue; that will use AME's preference instead of Premiere's default path.

  • I want to get the file in ANSI format.. Any idea?

    Hi all,
    I am doing a file to file bypass scenario .My client has demanded that the output file should be in ANSI format.
    I checked the <b>file.encoding</b> option in sap-help but ANSI is not available can u suggest that what encoding type i must use.
    I used ISO-8859-1 as well.But client rejected this file saying that ANSI characters not present in ISO-8859-1
    Any one pls throw some light on this how to acheive.

    Seema.

    Hi Stefan,
    Thanks for those links.. I have few doubts .. please suggest me.
    Based on those links and as per my thinking, now i have to follow below steps in File Module .
    Processing sequence:
    <b>Module Name :</b> AF_Modules/StrictXml2PlainBean
    <b>Type :</b> Local Enterprise Bean
    <b>ModuleKey :</b> 0
    <b>Module Name :</b> AF_Modules/StrictXml2PlainBean
    <b>Type :</b> Local Enterprise Bean
    <b>ModuleKey :</b> 1
    Module Configuration :
    <b>ModuleKey :</b> 0
    <b>Parameter Name :</b> singleRecordType (Since it is Bypass scenario,i want the entire file to have endseparator as /r/n.)
    <b>Parameter value: </b> What i need to mention i this field??
    <b>ModuleKey :</b> 1
    <b>Parameter Name :</b> Convert
    <b>Parameter value:</b>  No value ??
    In the links, i found these 3 parameters stating as
    Enter the parameter convert. It can have the following values:
    &#9679;     none - no conversion
    &#9679;     CRLFtoLF - conversion from Microsoft Windows CRLF to Unix LF
    &#9679;     No value or another value - conversion from Unix LF to Microsoft Windows CRLF
    So now i want the file to be in (CRLF).SO i need to mention "No value" here??
    Please suggest me stefan if iam thinking in correct way.
    Regards
    Seema.

  • How can I have a custom output file destination for each different preset?

    Hey guys,
    I have a bunch of presets in AME but I need to have each preset export to it's own folder. How can I do that? This was a really simple thing to do in Compressor but in Media Encoder is seems like I can only specify one output file destination for the whole application in general and everything gets exported to that folder. Can anyone help me with that please?

    This is a user to user forum. It is not staffed by Adobe employees so you will not always get a direct response from Adobe.
    That being said, the output destination is not tied to the presets so this is not possible without a little extra work. You can change multiple output destinations by selecting multiple jobs and then clicking on one of the output locations to update them all. Another way to set this up would be to use watch folders.
