OVERLAY HIGHLIGHT COLORS RUN AMUCK

I've created a basic background and overlay in photoshop. The text for my buttons are built into the background and the overlay file is a basic underline for each button. Thus I'm using "simple" as opposed to "advanced" overlay colors.
All three colors in my highlight set are the same, black, with varying opacity for the three states. Normal is completely opaque, Selected is semi-opaque, and Activated is not opaque at all. In theory, the boldness of the underline should be the only thing distinguishing Selected from Activated.
What happens instead is as follows:
The "Normal" state is as it should be - you cannot see the underline.
The "Selected state" doesn't look so bad, but there's a white edge around the underline that I can't seem to get rid of.
The "Activated" state is the worst. For some reason a yellow edge appears around the underline. Where did yellow come from?
Even when I change the highlight sets so that there are three unique colors for each state, I seam to be getting what I'm calling "ghost colors" - additional colors that I didn't select surrounding the overlay.
Any advice would be truly appreciated.

Drew,
Thanks so much for your thoughts. After reading your response to my post I investigated my overlay file more closely. Sure enough, there were some extra pixels around the edge of my underlines. I had created the underlines using the text tool - I guess most fonts have naturally feathered edges to prevent pixelation. I used the eraser tool to clean up the file and now it's working perfectly.
Thanks again,
Ethan

  • How can I change the highlight color of grid view folders in the dock?

Using OSX 10.10 Yosemite, the highlight color for a folder in Grid view is barely noticeable.
Can you spot the highlighted icon below?
I've grown accustom to clicking the applications folder in the doc then typing a few letters to get me close to the app I want- now it takes an extra few seconds for me to visually find the icon that got highlighted.
Is there a way to change the highlight color here?

I would open up the grid spacing slightly so everything does not run together. In System Preferences > General, try setting Highlight color: Red. This won't change the grey selection background around the icon, but it will turn the background behind the icon text to red. That stands out. However, the collateral effect is that text you select in this editor, and other OS X applications, will now have a red background too. Changing colors will require a killall Finder in the Terminal. Actually set mine to #ffff00 which is a vivid yellow, which is more practical when selecting text in a document.

  • 10.4.5: why are my highlight colors wrong?

no matter what highlight color i choose in the Appearance prefs pane, i get a different color - or, more accurately, a very different shade of the same color - in some places. when i select text in a text-editing app (or right here in Safari), for example, i get the highlight color i chose in the Appearance prefs pane, but if, say, i choose any shade of pure yellow for my highlight color in the prefs pane, my messages in Mail.app are highlighted in this positively repugnant bile green. if i choose a pale purple highlight color, messages in Mail.app are highlighted in a deep purple. and so on.
why is this? if i wanted disobedient computers, i'd run Windows boxes.
    thanks.

pray, good van malsen, exactly whom do you imagine me to have insulted, and when and how?
methinks thine imagination doth run amok.
i can appreciate, however, that no one has an answer to either of the questions i posted a week or two ago. but i do think it sad that we're cut loose to drift around out here on our own.
i used to see Apple Computer as an ally, a compatriot in the fight against conformity, mediocrity, the mindless acceptance and consumption of whatever user-hateful garbage rolled out of Redmond. i saw Apple Computer, and the Macintosh, as a cause, and one well worthy of my staunchest support.
it's different now though. the warmth, the fun and the color are gone (well, unless your idea of "colorful" is light blue), replaced with cold, gray (and light blue) efficiency and an increasing indifference toward the needs and desires of users. and one attempt to use .mac's sync function is all it takes to call into question the notion of efficiency as well.
oh, i don't have the energy for this. i'm just heartbroken at the death of the soul of Apple Computer.

  • Overlay Highlight is "opposite" of what it should be.

Menu graphic was created in Photoshop. Overlay is included in the same document. The overlay is for a text higlight.
In the Simulator, the overlay highlights where the alpha channel is, not where the black text is. Weird.
    Using simple colors, btw.
    Thanks in advance.

Weird. Played around with Advanced colors and it started working correctly. Put it back on Simple colors and it was fine. Go figure....

  • Pro XI change highlight color in edit

How can I change the highlight color while in content edit??  I have scanned, run recognize text and am now in content edit.  When I select a word or group of words, it highlights in black and since the type is already black, I cannot read it!!  Please help!!  Thank you

It looks like the Highlight (background) color can only be yellow.
The best work around I can find is to change the text color itself which may work like a highlight of the text (like red, green or blue) which makes it stand out.  Maybe that will help?
Format Inspector (the brush) > Style > Touch the Size and Font item > Color > swipe to see options.
Note even there you can't go beyond predefined colors but you can make text stand out.

  • Remove message highlight color

I had set up in Mail preferences to add message highlight color (Set Color of Message), but once I deleted that preference the old mail still shows in highlight. HOW do I get rid of highlight color on old messages now that I no longer want highlight color. Thank you.

Set up a mail rule with the same criteria as the first but set the color to black. Then run the rule.

Edit: sorry, if you're referring to highlight color of message threading then change the highlight color in Mail > Preferences > viewing tab > Highlight related messages using color. > tap the color box to edit > select white.

  • Is there a way to change the highlight color for buttons?

I swear, iDVD has got to be the most counter-intuitive program Apple has made in recent memory. I'm a huge Apple fan but this program makes me want to throw my computer at the freaking wall.
All I want to do is change the ugly yellow highlight color of the buttons (which appears when you select them) in the DVD menu. I'm making a wedding video, and the DVD menu is all silver, gray, black and white, so the yellow color that it defaults to looks hideous.
    Any help is appreciated!

    Good day Glenn,
You may want to consider upgrading from Acrobat 9.5 Standard to Acrobat X Pro.  Acrobat X Professional has the redaction tool which is really easy to use.
You could also accomplish the workflow you described in your question.  If you right-click the tool-bar, and enable the Properties Bar, you can change the color of your highlighter tool to black.  Then you can 'highlight' the text you would like to eliminate.  After you're done, print the document to the Adobe PDF printer with 'Document and Markup' selected under the 'Comments and Forms' drop-down menu to 'refry' your PDF.
    Hope this helps!
    Kind regards,

  • How do I change the highlight color of my PDF file?

On my PDF files, I'm able to highlight text, but cannot figure out how to change the color of the highlight.  I've got Adobe Reader, and also paid to upgrade - but honestly, I'm not sure which program I have.  This is the most confusing application I've ever used!

    Hey,
    You are most welcome
Yes, you can change existing highlight color also.
For this, go to 'Comment List' on the right hand side and select any one comment.
Now, press 'cmd+A' to select all the comments in the list and then 'control click' to choose 'Properties' from the pop down.
Choose highlight color as desired from 'Highlight Properties' dialog box.
Please check and let me know.

  • How do I change the highlight color of forms?

    I'm using Acrobat Pro X.
I need the form highlights to be transparent when another user opens the pdf, views and fills individual forms out.
Trying to keep this very simple for end user. I don't want to give the user instruction on how to go to preferences and change highlight color.
    Please help!
    Thanks!

Wow!  I was trying too hard I guess.   Will this bypass the preferences set
    on another users computer?
    Thanks,

  • How do I change the highlight color?

When I'm working on my document in Pages, I often do a Search (command-F) to quickly find a word or phrase that appears somewhere else in the document. It works great, but it highlights the word/phrase in light gray, which I have trouble seeing. Is there a way to change the highlight color to yellow, or any other color, making the word/phrase easier to see?

You can find it under the Pages menu > Provide Pages Feedback. That takes you to the same page as this link.

  • Adobe Reader 9.0 - Disable Forms Highlight color show border hover color for fields for all user a

    Hello.
I am installing Adobe Reader 9.0 onto a new windows xp corporate build for my company. We would like to have the Forms Preference "Highlight Color" Show border Hover Color for Fields checkbox unchecked by default for any user that logs onto the workstation. (All new WinXP profiles, and if possible, any existing profiles) Is there a registry entry that can be changed to ensure that this option is unchecked by default on our WinXP build?
    Thank you.

    bumping thread...
I have downloaded the Adobe Reader 9.0 Custom Wizard install creator tool, but it still appears that I will need to know what registry key to change/import into the installer for this preference to be disabled by default for all users of the workstation that Adobe Reader 9.x is installed onto.
Any and all help is greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.

  • Changing the highlight color of a JMenuBar

I'm trying to change the highlight color of a JMenuBar. Im using the METAL lookandfeel which by default highlights with a purple color. I would also like to know how its done on a JTable, I assume it is quite similar.

    UIDefaults uid = new com.sun.java.swing.plaf.windows.WindowsLookAndFeel().getDefaults();</code>
Note that this will print the default properties for the Windows Look&Feel, not the Metal Look&Feel.
