Overriding constructors with static parameters?

I have an abstract class named Stuk with the following constructor:
     public Stuk(boolean rdstuk, String soort){
          roodstuk = rdstuk;
     }and i have a couple of subclasses like this one:
public Maarschalk(boolean rdstuk, soort){
          super(rdstuk, "maarschalk");
     }with soort being a static string that differs in every subclass
i tried this because i want to be able to make an object of a certain subclass without making if-else constructions to make sure the proper constructor is used.
ofcourse, the static variable method doesnt work
any other suggestions?
thanks in advance

oh sorry i misposted the constructors
code of the constructor of abstract class Stuk:
public abstract class Stuk{
     /* instantievariabelen:
      private boolean roodstuk;
     public Stuk(boolean rdstuk,final String soort){
          roodstuk = rdstuk;
     }code of the constructor of subclass Maarschalk
public class Maarschalk extends Stuk{
     private final static int level = 11;
     private final static Figuur f = StrategoMain.figuren.getFiguur("maarschalk").scaleer(StrategoBord.portretbreedte, StrategoBord.portrethoogte);
     private final static String soort = "maarschalk";
     /* CONSTRUCTOREN:

  • Constructor with no parameters

    Greetings,
    What is a constructor with no parameters?
    Just started on my new lab today and most of its going pretty good. Except I can't get the compiler to go past the first part...which pretty much hangs up the rest. My instructions are to create a constructor with no parameters, and after doing some research I thought I did that. Would someone mind taking at look at this and help me understand what I'm not doing? Thanks.
    I'm only suppose to use the three variables that I've already put in, but the first constructor doesn't want to use any of those.
    public class Time
        // instance variables
        private int hour;
        private int minutes;
        private int seconds;
         * Default constructor for objects of class Time.
        public Time()
            Time();
        }

    public class Time {
        private int hour;
        private int minutes;
        private int seconds;
        // no constructor typed
        public static void main(String[] args) {
            Time t1 = new Time();  // OK
            Time t2 = new Time(5, 5, 5); // error
    }This is Ok for t1 because if you do not provide a default (no args) constructor, one will be supplied when it compiles.
    public class Time {
        private int hour;
        private int minutes;
        private int seconds;
        public Time(int h, int m, int s) {
        public static void main(String[] args) {
            Time t1 = new Time();  // error
            Time t2 = new Time(5, 5, 5); // OK
    }Now ok for t2 since you have provided a constrcutor but not ok for t1 as the default constructor will not be provided for you. Default constructor only provided if you do not provide one.
    public class Time {
        private int hour;
        private int minutes;
        private int seconds;
        public Time() {}
        public Time(int h, int m, int s) {
        public static void main(String[] args) {
            Time t1 = new Time();  // OK
            Time t2 = new Time(5, 5, 5); // OK
    }Now both t1 and t2 are ok since both constructors are been supplied.

  • I'm getting the below issue when I try to deploy a report with Dynamic parameters, when I deploy it with static parameters I'm not getting this issue.

    I’m getting the below issue when I try to deploy a crystal report with Dynamic parameters in BI Launch Pad, when I deploy the same report with static parameters I can deploy and run it. I have Restarted the BI server, still the issue exitno use. kindly help me on this issue.
    “This error occurred: Adding Crystal Report "CrystalReport1.rpt" failed. The server with kind rptappserver returned an error result. Failed to copy the report file to the report object. Refreshing the report object properties might have failed. Failed to read data from report file CrystalReport1. Reason: Failed to read parameter object”.

    BO does not run dynamic params through the report as would happen without BusinessObjects (BO) or Crystal Reports Server (CRS).  When you publish a report with dynamic parameters to BO/CRS, the prompt is published to the repository so that it can be accessed through the Business View Manager (which can be installed as part of the client tools).  In order for this to work a couple of things need to happen:
    1.  You need to be sure that you check the "Update Repository" box on the Save As screen the first time you publish the report.
    2.  Your BO/CRS user needs to have "view" access to the Crystal2013ReportApplicationServer in the Servers section in the CMC - in fact, the Everyone group should be given view access to the server in order for dynamic prompts to work correctly.
    3.  In the Business View Manager, the Administrator user needs to give your user, or, even better, a Crystal Developers group full control access to the "Dynamic Cascading Prompts" folder.
    Best practice for dynamic prompts in a BO/CRS environment is to actually create the prompts in the Business View Manager.  This will allow you to create a single data connection that can be reused and also create lists of values such that the same list or prompt can be reused by multiple reports.  If you just create the prompts in Crystal, you will end up with multiple data connections to the same database, the prompts will use the whole query for the reports to get the dynamic values instead of just a focused query to the lookup table that contains the values, and there ends up being lots of duplication and chaos.

  • How to design constructor with variable parameters?

    I'm working on a "project" where I need to make a class "book" that can store information about a book. It's name, isbn, stock, etc... What is throwing me off a little bit is the author. I'm allowed to enter up to 4 authors per book object. I'm coming at the problem with the assumption, that I should be able to load this author data within the constructor. Questions is how. At first I thought I'd make 4 different constructors, each with a different number of author parameters. Simple enough but it seems unnecessarily messy. Then I thought I'd make a variable length parameter array. e.g book( String ... author ). But what if someone wants to enter more than 4 authors or none at all?
    QUESTION:
    Is there a way I can set a minimum and maximum of inputs for variable length paramters?
    Vectors seem like they could be useful here instead of arrays. But again there is that problem of controlling constructor parameters.

    Then I thought I'd make a variable length parameter array. e.g book( String ... author ). (Otherstuff, String author, String ... otherAuthors)
    Is there a way I can set a minimum and maximum of inputs for variable length paramters?Validate it in the code itself
    Or create another class specifically for Authors
    No matter what you do you will still need validation code, for example what if the author is null? Or empty?
         class Authors
                public String Author1;
                public String Author2;
                public String Author3;
                public String Author4;
                public Authors(String auth)
                public Authors(String auth1, String auth2)
           }

  • Static Parameters - Default Values Not Showing On Crystal Server

    First, I create a basic report with static parameters.  Then I assign default values to the parameters.  When I run the report in the Crystal Developer, a window pops up and I see my parameters with the default values assigned.  At this point, if I run the report, it runs as expected and uses the default parameter values.
    However... if I install this same report on the Crystal Server, select 'Properties' > 'Default Settings' > 'Parameters', I see my parameters but I don't see their default values, yet if I select 'View', then a window pops up and I see my parameters and their default values.
    I guess I have the following questions:
    1. What's the difference between 'Viewing' and 'Running' a report on the Crystal Server?
    2. Why don't I see the parameter default values when I select 'Properties' > 'Default Settings' > 'Parameters' in the Crystal Server?
    I see the same behavior whether I use CR Developer XI or 2008.  The reports are being run on Crystal Server 2008.

    Hi,
    There are two modes of saving a report. 1 save your report with data (to do this go in File-- Save Report with Data check this option) 2. Save your report without data (uncheck the above said option)
    I think you are saving your report without saving the data with your report.  Try to save the report with saved data this will keep your parameter default values.
    Viewing is just looking at your report data which was saved along with your report.  'Running' is nothing but you are refreshing your report which will give you current data.
    Thanks,

  • Button in Bex Analyser 7.0 - problem with setting up Static Parameters

    Hello,
    I know a similar problem has been discussed here already, but I am still having problems with setting up Static Parameters of my Button in BEx Analyser 7.0, so that I can pass Variable values from that button to my query.
    This is what I do - in Static Parameters of my Button I set the following values:
    Name                          Index          Value
    DATA_PROVIDER        0               DP_1
    CMD                             0               PROCESS_VARIABLES
    SUBCMD                      0               VAR_SUBMIT
    VAR_NAME                 0               0RMA_FIP
    VAR_VALUE               0               004/2010
    As a result, I would like the value 004/2010 to be passed to variable 0RMA_FIP (which is mandatory) and the query to be executed with that value. For some reason, however, the value is not passed correctly, and instead the variable is filled with a blank or not filled at all, and I am getting a message "Specifiy value for variable Fiscal year/period". What do I do wrong?
    Just to give you a broader picture - I would like to later use this logic to pass more than one variables into a query, including a hierarchy node, and read the values from an Excel worksheet - however, after many attempts to do so, I started playing with just one variable to figure out what the problem was.
    I have already seen the following two threads and SAP notes on passing variable values from the button:
    Re: Button in BEx Analyzer 7.0

    Can anyone please advise?
    Cheers,
    AL

    I managed to figure it out myself!
    Instead of VAR_VALUE I need to enter VAR_VALUE_EXT, and it works fine.

  • Draw Dynamic Column with Static Columns

    Hi All
    I have to show dynamic columns with static columns including column header and I am choosing the Cross Tab style. I have done this already in SSRS but failed to do in Crystal Report version (Crystal Report Basic for Visual Studio 2008).

  • Problems with static member variables WAS: Why is the static initializer instantiating my class?!

    Hi,
    I have been hunting down a NullPointerException for half a day to come to
    the following conclusion.
    My constructor calls a method which uses static variables. Since an intance
    of my class is created in the static block when the class is loaded, those
    statics are probably not fully initialized yet and the constructor called
    from the static block has those null pointer problems.
    I've considered moving the initialization of the static variables from the
    declaration to the static block. But your code is inserted BEFORE any other
    code. Therefore not solving my problem.
    Two questions:
    1) what would be a solution to my problem? How can I make sure my static
    variables are initialized before the enhancer generated code in the static
    block calls my constructor? Short of decompiling, changing the code and
    recompiling.
    2) Why is the enhancing code inserted at the beginning of the static block
    and not at the end? The enhancements would be more transparent that way if
    the static variables are initialized in the static block.
    Thanks,
    Eric

    Hi Eric,
    JDO calls the no-args constructor. Your application should regard this constructor as belonging
    primarily to JDO. For example, you would not want to initialize persistent fields to nondefault
    values since that effort is wasted by JDO's later initilization to persistent values. Typically all
    you want to initialize in the no-args constructor are the transactional and unmanaged fields. This
    rule means that you need initialization after construction if your application uses the no-args
    constructor and wants persistent fields initialized. On the other hand, if your application really
    uses constructors with arguments, and you're initializing persistent fields in the no-args
    constructor either unintentionally through field initializers or intentionally as a matter of
    consistency, you will find treating the no-args constructor differently helpful.
    On the other hand, if Kodo puts its static initializer code first as you report, then it is a bug.
    Spec Section 20.16: "The generated static initialization code is placed after any user-defined
    static initialization code."

  • Protection Domains with static permissions are improperly constructed

    I'm pretty new to the java security model, but this doesn't look right. It seems as though ProtectionDomains with static permissions have symantically different functionality than those that are constructed with the "variant" constructor(CodeSource, PermissionCollection, ClassLoader, Principal[]). The documentation enforces this idea "The only permissions granted to this domain are the ones specified; the current Policy will not be consulted". Why then are the ProtectionDomains reconstructed improperly in combine(ProtectionDomain[], ProtectionDomain[]) method of the javax.security.auth.SubjectDomainCombiner? The wrong constructor is being called.
    The reason the SubjectDomainCombiner is reconstructing these improperly is because it ownly uses the second form of the ProtectionDomain constructor. In my case the SubjectDomainCombiner is reconstructing a ProtectionDomain that was constructed with the first form. Basically this means that the staticPermissions variable in my ProtectionDomain changes from true to false. Then when it's time to call the implies(Permission) method it consults the current policy instead of ONLY using static permissions.
    This is causing havic with my custom classloader because I don't want the security manager checking the current Policy for permissions. I only want the ProtectionDomain's static permissions. Bug 4687166 also deals with combiners improperly constructing ProtectionDomains, but it is NOT a duplicate.
    Now this means I'm going to have to extend the Policy class to get around this problem. Something isn't right, if it's me, please let me know.

    interesting - if i follow what you're saying, you expect SubjectDomainCombiner to inspect the input ProtectionDomains. if one was constructed with "static" permissions, do you expect SubjectDomainCombiner to create a new ProtectionDomain with the additional Principal info, while retaining the static permissions?
    or do you expect SubjectDomainCombiner to just leave that ProtectionDomain alone - in particular, do not update it with Principal info since it won't affect the permissions granted to that domain anyways?
    either is an interesting change to contemplate, and is a technical possibility for SubjectDomainCombiner (since it is J2SE code). however, to come up with a true solution available to any custom DomainCombiner would probably require public API changes to ProtectionDomain.

  • Can you override a public static method?

    Can you override a public static method?

    A static method belongs to a class, not to a particular object, because you can call them without having an object instantiated. Methods are over rided which are inherited from an object. Since Static methods (although inherited) are not bound to a particular object, are not overridden.
    Though you have a method in the subclass with the same signatures but if you try to call super.____() you will get the error
    non-static variable super cannot be referenced from a static context

  • Trouble invoking Axis service with multiple parameters

    Hallo Java experts,
    I have a problem with Axis 1.2RC2 (and Tomcat 5.0.19, JDK 1.5, Win XP) that might be quite simple, but I'm not so experienced and running out of ideas.
    Everything works fine as long as I use a single Parameter. But I can't invoke service methods with more parameters, independent of the parameters' (simple) types! Different exceptions are thrown, depending on the way I invoke the service. It's either ...
    - a java.lang.IllegalArgumentException (case 1)
    "Tried to invoke method public java.lang.String test.server.TestSoapBindingImpl.printLongs(long,long) with arguments java.lang.Long,null. The arguments do not match the signature."
    - or an org.xml.sax.SAXException (case 2)
    "SimpleDeserializer encountered a child element, which is NOT expected, in something it was trying to deserialize."
    Here's an example of a simple web service, that takes two longs and should return a string. In case 1 the service is invoked using a service locator in case 2 with a 'Call' object and explicitly set parameter types.
    Thanks in advance for your help!

    Dave, not sure if you still are looking for an answer but i hate seeing unreplied posts so i felt i needed to post something. I'm just beginning with this stuff as well so take my suggestions with a grain of salt....or a beer. Anyways, case 2 would show that you are getting your parameters through properly because the "deserialization" errror is targetted towards the soap reply. Most likely you are trying to receive back a none primitive type. :-D i.e. such as the problem that i'm having.
    hope that helps somewhat.
    graeme.

  • Reports 6 - with static info

    What is the best product that combine with reports 6 would give access to some static info,Oracle data mining or oracle warehouse or any other ?

    Hello,
    If you copy the parameters displayed by srw.message and create a BAT file with these parameters
    and rwrun60 :
    rwrun60 <the paremeters displayed by srw.message>
    Does the report run correctly ?

  • Singleton with static members only

    If I have a singleton class with static members only and I'd like to ensure that nobody accidentally instantiates the class, would it make sense to declare the class abstract? Or instead should I leave it non-abstract but make the no-argument constructor private? Or both?
    Which of these approaches would you recommend?
    Thanks.

    pros of using classical singletons (per Head First
    Design Patterns):
    1) It ensures that one and only one object is
    instantiated for a given class.This is effectively the same as using a non-instantiable class with all static members. You don't have an instance, but you have exactly one of it.
    2) It gives a global point of access like a global
    variableAgain, same thing with a non-instantiable class with all static members.
    3) It is only created when you need it (unlike a
    global variable) and thus wastes no resources if it
    is not needed.Again, same thing.
    Also, Java does not have global variables.
    Also, no variable in Java requires more than 8 bytes, and most are 4 or 2.
    4) Using a static self-contained class in place of a
    singleton can be a source of subtle, hard-to-find
    bugs often involving order of initialization of
    static code.Eh? Example please?
    5) Global variables encourage developers to pollute
    the namespace with lots of global references to small
    objects.What global variable? Java doesn't have global variables? How is a class full of statics any more a global than a "real" singleton?
