OWB Mapping with Flat file as a Target.

Hi all,
we have created a mapping in OWB where we have source as a table.and the target is a flat file.
we have created a file module and we have given the local system path for the file.
when we deploy and execute the mapping we get the error
"Invalid Path for target file, check UTL_FILE_DIR database parameter"
where do we have to specify the path?
Can any one please help in this reg.

The UTL_FILE_DIR is set in your init.ora file for your Oracle DB.
init.ora parameter doc: http://www.ss64.com/orasyntax/initora.html
In order to apply the change, you'll need to restart the DB too.

just create a File-Location and File-definition and use this file-operator as target object inside your mapping.

I am working with flat file as source . While validating the mapping i am getting the following error like
" to specify a data file configure the mapping , add a node under ' Source data file', type in the file name
and select the file location."

I tried the following stepts.
1. in Design Center select your mapping and right click and select configure
2. select sql loader data files and select create
3. On right hand side data file Name : enter your source file name (ex : source.csv)
4. click ok button.
5. open mapping and validate.
The mapping is validating. After validating I deployed the mapping. Up to this the mapping is working fine.
But when I start the mapping, It has completed with errors.
The error message is:

Error Log
RPE-01013: SQL Loader reported error condition, number 1.
LRM-00112: multiple values not allowed for parameter 'control'
Job Summary
Updated : 2009-02-24 15:32:43.0 Job Final Status : Completed with errors Job Processed Count : 1 Job Error Count : 1 Job Warning Count : 0

Oracle OWB integrator for Flat Files 3.0

I have installed owb 11g r2 in my machine, but while creating flat files module for file import it is showing that
it does not find *"Oracle OWB integrator for Flat Files 3.0"*. so i cannot use "import metadata using flat file wizard".
do i need to install the owb again or the Oracle OWB integrator for Flat Files 3.0 alone..or how do i integrate it with owb....... please help if anyone can,,

Hi All, I have one scenario to read the source file . The file delimiter is '|' . The no of pipeline for each line is 17. So if a line containing more than 17 , send an error email. For this first i am printing tota pipeline in ecah line to afile called pipelinecount.txt . Then i will read this file and send each value to while loop /for loop , where it will get > 17 , it will exit the process and send an email. But here in script i am getting error at while line. Working with Flat files in OWB

I am getting flat files from mainframe tables and I created external tables in OWB for mapping. I get data from flat files sometimes and I dont get data even though the file exists and there is no way to debug where the problem is in the files.
When we import the file metadata do we have to specify the column attributes or we should leave it 0 so that it take default of 255.
If you have any process on how files should be created which is practised in your place without problems pl let me know.

Hi,
Do you mean that you are not getting flat file data into the external tables ? in that case see the bad file and try to analyze the reason. Most of the lengths of the fields set up in the external table creates a problem. In that case increase the length of the external table fields to a comfortably large value and then try.

It seems like there is non-numeric characters present in your C5-C7 columns. Please check your source data for these columns.

How do I load a sysdate with a flat file
I tried using a constant with a sysdate expression but it seems like OWB creates the ctl file with 'sysdate' as a text and not as a sysdate() function

Two things to check:
- is the data type of the constant a date?
- did you enter 'sysdate' or just sysdate (without the ampersands)?
Other thing that might help you is generate the intermediate result in the mapping. This will show you the results you'll expect to be loaded in the flat file...

MAPPING USING FLAT FILE SOURCE MODULE

I created a mapping using a flat file as source and a dimension as target, I've already configure both modules and their locations.
When I try to deploy this mapping in the deploy manager, it generates the script for the control file and when I hit the deploy button it says that the deploy was succesfull, but I really don�t know what it did.
Does it put the file in my target schema?, what do I suposs to do next?

So,i don't have to manually run the sql loader from the command prompt???
All i have to do is Execute the map normally from the deployment manager and it will load the .ctl file itself.Ok great,i did so but i got the following error:

Conditional Interface Determination with Flat Files

Hello,
I have one sender interface (dummy) which could either hold a flat file or an XML file. On receiver side there is one system with two receiver interfaces, one should be used for the XML structure and one for the flat structure.
My requirement is to have a conditional interface determination with an (exclusive) OR logic. Pseudo code:
The XML structure has "submission" as root node. So I use the condition (/submissioin) EX to determine whether it is an XML file and I check with not(/submission) EX to determine whether it is a flat file. However the condition does not work using a flat file ("Unable to find an inbound interface"). Could it be, that the conditional expression never is true in case a flat file arrives? How can I achieve this requirement?
What I additionally do with the flat file is just calling a Java Mapping that sets dynamic attributes for a file receiver, the flatfile itself is dumped on a file system without any addtional conversion logic.

How can I ingnore a message in case a condition applies? I am just aware of the fact that you can ignore messages in case NO condition applies.
Couldn't you simply reverse the logic and use "not equals"? Or perhaps you can use the EX operator to alter your conditions... here is more info on the EX (exists) operator

What is best practice in this case? Should I use a "dummy receiver"? However if I use a dummy receiver I think I would receive a "interface determination not found" error. How would you do that?
I've never found the need to work with dummy receivers so I cannot comment there.

Domain Value Mapping with Text file

I have done the Domain value mapping with the xml file to xml file and it is working fine.
But in the case of Text file to Text file it is not working i.e. If the citiname is the
first field it is domain value mapping and working fine.
INPUT:
Erode, Mahes, 22
Coimbatore, Veera, 22
OUTPUT:
ED, Mahes, 22
CBE, Veera, 22
But if I change the Citiname to the second column it is not working the problem is
it is not working for subsequent columns.

The input Text files are delimited by "comma" and optionally enclosed by "space".
Does anyone have attained the DVM in the Text file successfully.

Text to Text means instead of giving the input file as XML file i am giving the input as a simple .txt file and I also want the output in the .txt format.
For the text file only it is not working fine in the xml file to xml file it is working fine.

Here I am checking the DVM function for the Second column and it is not working and I have given their Inputs and Outputs in my first message .
I have another question as you told both import and export of the DVM is always in the XML format only so I have a doubt whether the lookup-dvm will be working for xml files only and not for text files.
But in my case in text file it is working for the first column but not in the subsequent columns.

Flat File Active Sync Target Resource not working

Hi there,
I've been trying now for several days to get user data from a csv-file into a target resource (mysql table in this case), but I don't get it working.
I created MySQL resource with correct schema mapping, then I created FFAS adapter for the csv file with correct schema mapping and added MySQL table as target resource (I chose "wizard generated input from" and basic configuration mode in active sync wizard). I also configured meta view (or identity attributes in IDM 6.0) with FFAS as source and MySQL as target for several attributes.
Accounts can be loaded from the csv (lighthouse users are created) and MySQL-resource can be assigned to users, but it would be pretty nice to have this done automatically. So what I want is load accounts from csv and add mysql resource without any user action required (manually assign resource).

Right. Roles are a great way to assign Resources to users. They have the added value of being able to re-define the Role at a later time (e.g. users having Role X get an account in MySQL and AD, for example) through Bulk Action.
I typically do my ActiveSync processing through an ActiveSync input Form. I realize MetaView is available too, but I was "brought up" on the Form model and it still works for me.
If you go the ActiveSync Form route, you basically have to understand the Form as a tool to help you build the user View and extend the handful of attributes from your CSV file into a larger representation of the user. In other words, the Form is often used to create an Email Address (either in the Form or through Rule invocation), assign Roles/Resources, assign a Manager (IdM 7.0 and later), etc.

Is a database table required for temporary interfaces with flat file data set source ?

Folks, this is the situation I have in ODI 11.1.1.7
I have a temporary interface (yellow), called MJ_TEMP_INT, that pulls data from TWO data sets in the source into a temporary target (TEMP_TARG). The catch is one data set pulls from a from a table whereas the other data set pulls from a flat file. A union is done on the data sets.
I then create another interface, called MJ_INT, that uses the MJ_TEMP_INT as a source and the target is a real db. table called "REAL_TARGET"
Two questions:
When I execute my second interface (MJ_INT), I get a message "ORA-00942: table or view does not exist" because it is looking for a real db table TEMP_TARG. Why must I have one ? because I am pulling from a flat file ?
On my second interface (MJ_INT) when I look at the property sheet of my source interface MJ_TEMP_INT (yellow), the checkbox next to "Use temporary interface as Derived table" is DISABLED. Why ? Is is also because my temporary interface is pulling from a flat file ?
I have attached a file that shows a screen shot of my ODI studio.
By the way, IF my temporary interface source has only one data set pulling from a db. table into a temporary target table, say called MJ_TEMP2_TARG, and then when I use this temporary interface as a source to another other real db. target table (REAL2_TARGET), THEN, every thing works. ODI does not require me to have a real db. table MJ_TEMP2_TARG and the checkbox for "Use temporary interface as Derived table" is NOT DISABLED and my REAL2_TARGET table gets populated.

Though I understand the reason to materialize the file in a staging area, but that almost defeats the purpose of having a temporary interface in this case if we have to save the data in a permanent db. table first. I assume the db. table sticks around and is not automatically dropped once the interface executing ends. If the db. table sticks around then I also must truncate it first before executing the temporary interface each time. Right ?
